Le célèbre fabricant de mini PC Minisforum a lancé le Minisforum MS-01 qui s'enrichit aujourd'hui d'un nouveau modèle, le MS-A1. Il ne s'agit pas d'une simple mise à jour, car Minisforum adopte une approche totalement nouvelle en offrant la possibilité de changer de CPU. Un socket AM5 sert de base et peut être équipé de différents CPU AMD Ryzen. Le Minisforum MS-A1 peut être commandé sur la boutique de l'entreprise en tant que barebone, mais aussi avec AMD Ryzen 7 8700G déjà préinstallé. Ce dernier comprend également 32 Go de RAM DDR5, un SSD de 1 To et une licence Windows 11 Pro. À 829 euros, le mini PC MS-A1 préconfiguré de Minisforum n'est certainement pas une bonne affaire. Le modèle barebone est déjà disponible pour 289 euros et peut donc constituer une excellente alternative si vous êtes prêt à vous procurer les autres composants vous-même.

Boîtier - Combinaison de métal et de plastique

A première vue, Minisforum semble avoir utilisé le même boîtier pour le MS-A1 que pour le MS-01. Mais ce n'est pas le cas. Il y a certainement des aspects visuels que les deux modèles partagent. Cependant, la construction du Minisforum MS-A1 est complètement différente. Les matériaux utilisés sont toujours le métal et le plastique, bien que les parties en plastique ne se trouvent qu'à l'avant. Dans le duel interne, le Minisforum MS-A1 est légèrement plus court. Néanmoins, le mini-PC nécessite un peu plus d'espace que les appareils extrêmement petits de Geekom. Les concurrents de HP et Lenovo, qui sont également équipés de CPU interchangeables, ont presque la même taille.

La qualité de fabrication du Minisforum MS-A1 ne souffre d'aucune critique. Les surfaces offrent une bonne haptique. L'appareil est également très stable et résistant à la torsion grâce au choix des matériaux. Le seul point à critiquer est la finition de la surface, qui rend les traces de doigts visibles très rapidement. Comparé aux autres mini PC, le Minisforum MS-A1 est l'un des appareils les plus lourds de ce comparatif, avec un poids de 1,7 kilogramme. Comme il ne s'agit pas d'un appareil mobile, ce point peut être négligé. Le bloc d'alimentation de 240 watts pèse 762 grammes de plus que la plupart de ses concurrents.

Equipement

Le Minisforum MS-A1 ne dispose pas d'un nombre de connexions supérieur à la moyenne. Malgré cela, le choix est impressionnant : en plus de cinq prises USB de type A, Minisforum a également installé un port USB-C avec 40 GBit/s et une interface OCuLink, que nous avons utilisée en combinaison avec le Minisforum DEG1 OCulink eGPU Dock et une carte graphique Nvidia RTX 4090 de Nvidia Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 séparément. Pour connecter des écrans, le Minisforum MS-A1 est équipé d'un HDMI et d'un DisplayPort. L'interface USB 4 peut également être utilisée à cette fin. Le mini PC peut donc contrôler trois écrans simultanément.

Communication

Le fabricant a installé un module Intel Wi-Fi dans le MS-A1. Le module sans fil Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 permet également d'utiliser la bande de fréquence 6 GHz, plus moderne et nettement plus rapide. Lors du test avec l'Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000, le module Wi-Fi a fourni des débits de données élevés et stables. Si seule la bande de fréquence 5 GHz est disponible, les débits d'envoi et de réception de données chutent considérablement. Néanmoins, cela suffit pour que le Minisforum MS-A1 se positionne au milieu du terrain par rapport aux appareils de comparaison. Deux prises RJ45 se trouvent à l'arrière du MS-A1. Les deux prises sont prévues pour des transmissions allant jusqu'à 2,5 GBit/s. Les deux ports peuvent également être regroupés, ce qui permet d'atteindre 5 Gbit/s.

La livraison du Minisforum MS-A1 n'est pas très étendue. Outre le mini-PC lui-même, le bloc d'alimentation de 240 watts, relativement volumineux, et un câble HDMI sont également inclus. Un adaptateur pour l'installation d'un SSD U.2 est également inclus.

Maintenance

Les travaux d'entretien sont généralement possibles sur le Minisforum MS-A1. Cependant, l'ouverture du Minisforum MS-A1 est beaucoup plus compliquée que celle du Minisforum MS-01. Pour ouvrir le boîtier, il faut dévisser huit vis au total. De plus, de grands dissipateurs thermiques sont installés, qui doivent d'abord être retirés si vous souhaitez installer de la RAM et des SSD. Comme le Minisforum MS-A1 est également disponible en option barebone, nous aurions préféré une solution plus simple comme le Minisforum MS-01. Cependant, le CPU, la RAM et les SSD peuvent être installés facilement avec un peu d'effort.

Durabilité

Le Minisforum MS-A1 est livré dans une boîte en carton assez compacte. Les accessoires sont emballés dans des pochettes en plastique séparées, ce qui, selon nous, pourrait être amélioré en termes de durabilité. Nous tenons à souligner l'approche modulaire de la conception, qui permet d'effectuer des réparations mineures. Cependant, le MS-A1 de Minisforum n'arrive pas à la cheville de la conception modulaire du HP Z2 Mini G9 ou de la Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny. En outre, il n'y a pas d'autres informations indiquant la durabilité en termes de production et de matériaux utilisés.

Performance - AMD Ryzen 7 8700G avec 8 cœurs et iGPU rapide

Le Minisforum MS-A1 peut être acheté en tant que barebone ou, dans la version que nous avons testée, avec un AMD Ryzen 7 8700G préinstallé. Avec 32 Go de RAM et un SSD de 1 To, le modèle est bien équipé pour le moment. Le processeur offre également un iGPU rapide, qui n'est autrement utilisé que dans les SoC mobiles. Si vous pouvez vous passer des performances 3D, vous pouvez également équiper le Minisforum MS-A1 d'autres processeurs basés sur AM5. Cela signifie que le petit mini PC peut même être combiné avec son processeur à 16 cœurs.

Minisforum MS-A1 peut également gérer d'autres processeurs

Pour certains tests de performance, nous avons opposé l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G à l'AMD Ryzen 9 7950X AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. Contrairement à ce qu'affirme le fabricant, le TDP ne peut être réglé à 75 watts dans l'UEFI qu'après le remplacement du processeur. L'objectif est en fait de 100 watts pour les processeurs à deux DCC. Nous avons néanmoins effectué des tests comparatifs dans cette configuration et inclus les résultats dans les graphiques de comparaison. Nous avons contacté le fabricant à ce sujet. Après consultation du Minisforum, une unité de refroidissement améliorée pour les convertisseurs de tension sera installée dans les prochains modèles. Dans le même temps, une nouvelle version du BIOS sera publiée, qui prendra également en charge les processeurs de la série Ryzen 9000.

Conditions d'essai

Pour tous les tests de performance avec le Minisforum MS-A1, nous utilisons le profil énergétique "performance maximale". Il n'y a eu que des écarts par rapport à ce profil dans les mesures de la consommation d'énergie et du bruit selon nos critères de test Critères de test.

L'UEFI du Minisforum MS-A1

L'UEFI du Minisforum MS-A1 est moderne et ordonnée. Certaines modifications essentielles comme le réglage du TDP du processeur et de la température maximale du CPU sont utiles. La RAM utilisable pour l'iGPU peut également être ajustée. Pour tous les tests ultérieurs, nous n'avons pas effectué de modifications et avons laissé l'appareil dans l'état où il était à la livraison. Malheureusement, il n'existe pas d'options plus étendues, telles que la désactivation de ports individuels.

Processeur

Le processeur du Minisforum MS-A1 est un AMD Ryzen 7 8700G. En tant que version préconfigurée du mini-PC, Minisforum n'installe que ce modèle. D'autres processeurs AM5 peuvent également être installés. Cependant, le BIOS doit parfois être mis à jour si des modèles de la série 9000 sont également installés. Cela dit, le détour par un AMD Ryzen 7000 ou un AMD Ryzen 8600G ou 8700G est inévitable, car le Minisforum MS-A1 n'offre pas d'option de flashback permettant d'installer le BIOS sans RAM ni CPU. Une autre information importante à connaître est que le TDP est limité à 100 watts. Inversement, cela signifie, entre autres, qu'un processeur AMD Ryzen 9 7950X ne peut fonctionner qu'avec des performances nettement réduites.

Passons maintenant aux performances de l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G dans le Minisforum MS-A1. Le processeur est essentiellement un SoC mobile basé sur l'architecture Zen4. La puce est également équipée de la puissante AMD Radeon 780M, ce qui fait de l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G le processeur de bureau doté de l'iGPU le plus puissant. Nous y reviendrons plus tard. En comparaison directe, le Minisforum MS-A1 occupe une bonne troisième place. Le Minisforum MS-A1 se classe à la troisième place HP Z2 Mini G9 ainsi que la Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tiny avec leurs processeurs Intel plus rapides, se distinguent quelque peu. Les processeurs d'ordinateurs de bureau classiques sont également utilisés ici, mais ils sont nettement supérieurs à leurs homologues mobiles en termes de performances. Les résultats montrent que l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G est au même niveau de performance que l'AMD Ryzen 9 8945H du Geekom AX8 Pro.

Comme nous l'avons déjà mentionné, nous avons également comparé le Minisforum MS-A1 avec l'AMD Ryzen 9 7950X de la Geekom AX8 Pro AMD Ryzen 9 7950X. Par rapport à l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G, le 16-core peut fournir environ 12 pour cent de performance en plus en moyenne. Si vous ne considérez que les tests multicœurs, des augmentations de performances de 50 % et plus sont possibles.

Le Minisforum MS-A1 est loin d'avoir des valeurs DPC exceptionnelles. Le simple fait d'ouvrir plusieurs onglets dans le navigateur Edge entraîne déjà une augmentation des valeurs, qui augmentent encore légèrement lors de la lecture de la vidéo de test 4K.

Mémoire de masse

Connexions SSD avec le Minisforum MS-A1 (Source : Minisforum)

Le Minisforum MS-A1 peut être équipé d'un total de quatre SSD. Tous les ports M.2 sont des connexions PCIe, qui peuvent être équipées de SSD NVMe d'une longueur de 80 millimètres. L'adaptateur fourni permet également d'installer des SSD de 2,5 pouces utilisant l'interface SFF U.2. L'avertissement doit être respecté afin d'éviter d'endommager un SSD M.2 si aucun SSD de 2,5 pouces n'est installé.

Notre échantillon de test contient un SSD de 1 To de Kingston, qui affiche d'excellentes performances par rapport à ses concurrents. Seul le Samsung PM9A1a de la Lenovo ThinkStation Tiny P3 affiche des performances globales légèrement supérieures. L'interface M.2 offre au mieux une vitesse PCIe 4.0 x4, que le SSD installé utilise également de manière optimale. Il en résulte de bons taux de transfert qui ne chutent pas, même sous charge. Minisforum a prévu une unité de refroidissement généreuse.

Avec la AMD Radeon 780Mla AMD Ryzen 7 8700G offre un puissant iGPU, qui est actuellement l'unité graphique intégrée la plus rapide parmi les processeurs de bureau. Ce modèle est déjà installé dans de nombreux processeurs mobiles. Dans la comparaison des performances, nous pouvons voir que les performances peuvent suivre celles de ses homologues mobiles. Le Minisforum MS-A1 offre pratiquement les mêmes performances 3D que le Geekom AX8 Pro. Par rapport à la carte Nvidia T1000utilisée dans la Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tinyl'iGPU de notre échantillon de test peut également suivre. Les différences ne sont visibles que dans les tests de rendu, qui se déroulent nettement mieux avec les adaptateurs graphiques professionnels.

Performances des jeux

Les performances de la AMD Radeon 780M que nous avons documentées dans les benchmarks synthétiques, sont également évidentes dans les tests de jeu. Le Minisforum MS-A1 remporte clairement le duel interne grâce à son iGPU plus puissant. Les deux appareils de comparaison dotés d'une carte graphique dédiée sont nettement plus performants. L'AMD Radeon 780M offre une augmentation considérable des performances par rapport aux autres iGPU installées dans les processeurs de bureau. Néanmoins, l'iGPU atteint rapidement ses limites avec les jeux modernes. Cependant, les titres plus anciens peuvent parfois être joués sans problème, même avec des détails élevés.

Doté d'une interface OCuLink, le Minisforum MS-A1 peut être connecté à des cartes graphiques externes afin d'augmenter considérablement les performances 3D. Cependant, vous devez accepter une limitation de la bande passante, car la carte graphique externe fonctionne au mieux à la vitesse PCIe 4.0 x4 via OCuLink. C'est tout de même mieux qu'une connexion USB 4, qui ne fonctionne qu'avec PCIe 3.0 x4. Avec la station d'accueil Minisforum DEG1 eGPU et une carte graphique Nvidia RTX95, vous pouvez utiliser une carte graphique externe Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090nous avons effectué quelques tests pour illustrer l'augmentation des performances que l'on peut attendre des cartes graphiques grand public les plus rapides actuellement disponibles.

La comparaison des performances dans les tests synthétiques montre que la combinaison avec la carte graphique externe a définitivement le potentiel de rivaliser avec les systèmes de bureau conventionnels. Cependant, nous ne voulons pas passer sous silence le fait que la différence de performance est nettement plus importante lors des tests de jeu. Selon le jeu et l'application, le déficit de performance varie en raison de la bande passante plus faible via l'interface OCuLink. Par rapport à l'interface PCIe 4.0 x16 complète, la Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 perd environ 30 % de ses performances. Émissions - Un bon refroidissement et un bloc d'alimentation surdimensionné

Émissions sonores

L'unité de refroidissement, qui se trouve sur le dessus du processeur, est constituée d'une construction à caloducs, qui est refroidie à l'aide de deux ventilateurs. Cela fonctionne assez bien dans la pratique, bien que l'appareil soit toujours silencieux. Il y a également un autre ventilateur sur le dessous, qui alimente le refroidisseur SSD en air frais. Au ralenti, nous avons enregistré un niveau de pression sonore de 34 dB(A), ce qui est toujours plus élevé que ses concurrents. En charge, le niveau sonore monte jusqu'à 46,2 dB(A). Au moins, le bruit du ventilateur n'est pas à haute fréquence, ce qui rend le fonctionnement à pleine charge un peu plus supportable. En charge moyenne, le niveau sonore diminue légèrement et s'établit à 41 dB(A). Un excellent résultat si vous regardez les concurrents sous la même charge. Le HP Elite Mini 800 G9, qui est très silencieux avec une charge moyenne de seulement 30,2 dB(A), a obtenu d'excellents résultats.

Température

Le boîtier du Minisforum MS-A1 reste toujours très froid. Même sous charge, nous n'avons pas atteint 40 °C, ce qui est excellent. Comme nous l'avons déjà vu dans les tests de stress, l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G peut fournir des performances stables. La limite de température est fixée à 90 °C dans le BIOS. Nous n'atteignons cette valeur à aucun moment de nos tests, ce qui confirme la stabilité des performances en charge continue. Nous constatons un maximum de 83 °C lors du test de stress avec Prime95. En outre, le processeur fonctionne en permanence à 65 watts, ce qui correspond à ce que Minisforum attribue à l'AMD Ryzen 7 8700G.

Consommation électrique

Opposé au Minisforum MS-01le Minisforum MS-A1 est nettement plus économique. Ceci est déjà évident en mode veille, où notre échantillon de test se contente de 8,8 à 14 watts. En charge moyenne, le besoin en énergie grimpe à un peu plus de 90 watts, ce qui est beaucoup plus élevé que la plupart des autres mini-PC. En raison des processeurs gourmands en énergie du HP Z2 Mini G9 et de la Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Tinynous ne ferons pas de comparaison directe ici. En outre, les deux appareils sont équipés de cartes graphiques dédiées, ce qui augmente considérablement la consommation d'énergie en charge. Le Minisforum MS-A1 n'atteint qu'un pic de 102,1 watts, ce qui nous surprend lorsque nous examinons le bloc d'alimentation. Le fabricant fournit un bloc d'alimentation de 240 watts avec le Minisforum MS-A1, ce qui est loin de ses limites. Même avec une alimentation plus puissante AMD Ryzen 9 7950Xvous ne serez pas près de surcharger le bloc d'alimentation, car selon les spécifications du fabricant, la consommation d'énergie des processeurs avec deux CCD est limitée à 100 watts.

Minisforum MS-A1 en revue - fourni par Minisforum

Le Minisforum MS-A1 n'est pas une simple reprise du Minisforum MS-01 avec la plate-forme AMD. Cela devient rapidement évident lorsque vous voyez que le fabricant propose également le MS-A1 en tant que barebone sans CPU. La possibilité de laisser le choix du processeur à l'utilisateur est certainement le plus grand avantage du Minisforum MS-A1. AMD a déjà révélé lors du lancement que les processeurs AM5 seraient pris en charge pendant plusieurs années. Cependant, il reste à voir comment Minisforum mettra cela en œuvre à l'avenir. En effet, un nouveau BIOS est nécessaire pour la prise en charge des futurs processeurs.

Le Minisforum MS-A1 est une excellente base pour une station de travail puissante. Le Miniforum MS-A1 n'est pas une station de travail pure sous cette forme.

Si vous souhaitez utiliser le Minisforum MS-A1 dans la version préconfigurée avec le processeur AMD Ryzen 7 8700G vous disposez d'une excellente base avec la possibilité d'une mise à niveau ultérieure. Avec 8 cœurs et 16 threads, l'APU offre des performances suffisantes pour gérer la plupart des tâches. Vous disposez également de 32 Go de mémoire vive DDR5 et d'un disque dur SSD de 1 To, ce qui signifie que l'appareil est immédiatement prêt à l'emploi. Le Minisforum MS-A1 offre une bonne sélection d'interfaces externes. Tant l'USB4 que l'OCuLink sont disponibles et élargissent considérablement les possibilités. Cette dernière peut être parfaitement combinée avec le dock eGPU Minisforum DEG1.

Qualifier le Minisforum MS-A1 de station de travail est une affirmation audacieuse car, à la base, le mini PC n'est pas différent d'un PC compact, tel que le HP Elite Mini 800 G9par exemple. Il est possible de transformer le Minisforum MS-A1 en station de travail avec les accessoires adéquats. Toutefois, cela nécessite un investissement supplémentaire. Une combinaison avec une solution graphique professionnelle d'usine serait plus efficace, mais nettement plus coûteuse. En ce qui concerne le prix, nous n'avons pratiquement rien dit jusqu'à présent : la facture s'élève à 829 euros si l'appareil est utilisé dans notre configuration de test. Cela place Minisforum au même niveau que HP avec ses modèles Elite Mini-800 G9. Si vous voulez vous occuper vous-même du CPU, de la RAM, du SSD et du système d'exploitation, vous pouvez vous procurer le Minisforum MS-A1 pour seulement 289 euros.

En résumé, nous pouvons dire que Minisforum a mis sur le marché un appareil très intéressant avec le MS-A1. La possibilité de changer de CPU ultérieurement est un pas dans la bonne direction. La connectivité, en particulier la connexion OCuLink, est quelque chose que l'on ne voit pas chez des marques connues comme HP, Lenovo, Dell ou Asus.
