À première vue, on serait tenté de penser que ce nouveau MacBook Pro 14 ressemble très fortement à son prédécesseur. Et à juste titre, puisque le design n'a en rien évolué. Mais est-ce un problème, dans la mesure où cette machine est excellente dans toutes les tâches que l'on peut entreprendre avec ? La nouvelle puce M2 Pro vient booster les performances d'environ 30 % par rapport à la génération précédente, tout en améliorant encore l'autonomie tout bonnement démentielle. Le MacBook Pro 14 2023 est aussi puissant qu'endurant, et seul un modèle avec une puce M2 Max pourrait venir le détrôner. Aucun PC portable sous Windows n'est capable d'effectuer des tâches aussi lourdes sur batterie, et encore moins pendant aussi longtemps. Reste le prix évidemment conséquent, mais toujours largement moins cher que les MacBook Intel, pourtant bien moins efficaces.

If you’re someone who’s already dropped a lot of money on an M1 Pro or M1 Max MacBook Pro, then you do not need to upgrade to this 2023 version. However, if you have an older machine that’s beginning to feel a little old, or fancy the switch to Apple’s MacOS, then this MacBook Pro 14-inch (2023) is a brilliant laptop that you shouldn’t ignore. The various price rises (prices have stayed in the States, but risen in regions like the UK) are tough to take, especially when the costs for additional memory and storage are so high. This machine, as a result, is for a very specific type of customer – for once, the Pro moniker isn’t simply a marketing term like it is with the AirPods Pro or iPhone 14 Pro. For many, the MacBook Air M2 is more than enough laptop for a lot less money, and a 15-inch model may be on the way too.

So the big question is, is the 2023 14" MacBook Pro for you? First and foremost, that depends on whether you need or want macOS or Windows. The only segment we'd recommend completely shy away from this machine is PC gamers who want to play on a laptop, as this is just not a real option here. MetalFX Upscaling is a nice nod towards the modern trend of hardware-assisted image enhancement like FSR and DLSS, but only Resident Evil Village makes use of it. Dev studios just have not flocked to the Mac, despite the fact that all of the machines Apple makes today have more graphics horsepower than any x86 PC with integrated graphics alone. And at this point, that doesn't look likely to change. If you want a productivity machine and play games on a separate desktop, though, the MacBook shines.

I have used the MacBook Pro 14 extensively and it’s flawless, the kind of product that will help you do your work and not be a hassle. Sure, we all want more. It could have used an OLED screen. Or it could have been sharper looking. Or this. And that. But this is not even nitpicking. The MacBook Pro 14 is so good at what it does and what all it offers that I have no hesitation to say this is the best laptop you can buy whether your work involves coding and compiling, editing or watching pre-released videos or working on thousands of professional photos all in one week. This also makes the Pro 14 and the Pro 16 the best laptops for almost everyone except those who want the compactness of a 13-inch machine. The key question, however, is the price you are willing to pay. I feel people, who make serious money from the work they do on their laptop, will see a lot of value in something like the Pro 14 and the Pro 16. The speed and sorted manners of the Pro 14 mean that these machines will save a lot of time and for some users saved time could equal to more money. So yes, it is worth Rs 199,900 if you can make full use of it. However, if you are a college student, or someone who requires a new laptop for office work with Office 365 and Chrome browser, you will do fine with a more basic MacBook Air or the MacBook 13 with regular M2 chipset.

For everyone else, it’s just a matter of emptying your piggy bank. At this price point, you can’t buy a better laptop right now. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro is also available in more expensive versions, such as the M2 Pro with 12 CPU cores and 19 GPU cores, and the M2 Max processor also with 12 CPU cores, but with a 30-core GPU, which can even be upgraded to a full 38 cores when you buy the machine, but then you also need to bring the really, really big wallet. The new M2 Pro edition of the MacBook Pro offers towering performance, improved wireless connectivity, and the same great display we know from its predecessor. The only reason the 14-inch Macbook Pro with M2 Pro processor doesn’t get our top marks is that we’d have liked Apple to upgrade the built-in webcam. By 2023, we expect both FaceID and the ‘In Focus’ feature from a laptop costing more than €2,000.

Price is the only obstacle. The base model we tested starts at $2,000, but increasing the amount of RAM, storage space, and processing power easily puts the price around $3,000. That’s a lot and, depending on your needs, the MacBook Pro 14 might feel too expensive. But if you’re willing to pay up or tend to hang on to a laptop for as long as it’s still working, it’s hard to go wrong with the MacBook Pro 14 as it outclasses much of its Windows competition.

The answer to this really comes down to two things; power and budget. This machine, even the base model, will handle the most complex of tasks with relative ease. So if you require a lot of power from a compact laptop, a screen that is going to allow you to see your creative work in all its glory, will last all day and is super-portable, you'd be hard pushed to find a better option than the 14-inch MacBook Pro. But I want to be clear that this is an immense amount of power, and more than most would ever need from a laptop. I guess the other consideration is personal style. I work on the go a lot, work in creative software regularly, which my M1 MacBook Air handles with ease. But, having experienced this new model, if budget wasn't an issue, I would choose the new 14-inch MacBook Pro every time. And that's because I personally really appreciate its overall design and the added connectivity it offers.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro leaves little - if anything - to be desired. It's an incredible laptop with more power and performance than most will ever need or utilise, a fantastic build quality, an incredible display and a great battery life (from our experience so far). Its biggest downfall is of course that all this greatness comes at a price - which ranges from $1999/£2149 to a whopping $6499/£6749 fully specced. It would also have been nice to see Face ID, and while we are on our wishlist, a touchscreen wouldn't have gone amiss either. But even without those things, it's still impossible not to adore this machine. Should you buy it? If you have the budget, we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it, but there is also an argument for considering the MacBook Pro (M1 Pro/Max) models, which are still fantastic machines two years on and may be cheaper now if you can get hold of them. In the same breath, it's likely the same will be said for these M2 Pro/Max models two years down the road so they would be a solid investment. Whether you should upgrade from the M1 Pro/Max models really does depend on what you do with your laptop and whether you can justify the price for the performance gains, but for those on older MacBooks, this a dream machine that will deliver noticeable performance improvements instantly.

Le MacBook Pro 14 pouces est à l’extrémité supérieure du petit monde des ultraportables. Un peu lourd à cause de son boîtier en aluminium, il bénéficie toutefois d’une finition exemplaire et inégalée. Son clavier remarquable et, sa dalle exceptionnelle, bien qu’en léger retrait, assurent un confort de travail très appréciable, hors norme, qui ne sera que rarement perturbé par le bruit des pales des ventilateurs. Car le M2 Max, s’il chauffe un peu plus que le M1 Max et que le M2 Pro, arrive à ne pas trop monter en température et à se faire discret, la plupart du temps. Il assure pourtant une puissance impressionnante, qui donne son plein potentiel pour le montage vidéo et les rendus graphiques lourds – l’avantage d’avoir jusqu’à 38 cœurs GPU et 96 Go de mémoire unifiée. Une feuille de match quasi parfaite qui est bouclée par une autonomie très au-dessus de la moyenne. The budget-conscious should consider the M2 MacBook Air instead, it has more than enough performance for most people. The display isn’t as nice but it counters by being a lot more portable and affordable. The MacBook Air is the Mac notebook for everyone. And as for owners of the older M1-based MacBook Pros, I see little need to upgrade unless you really need the improved connectivity (the old models couldn’t output to an 8K screen), work with really large files and need a system with 96GB of memory, or could really use the additional multi-core performance. So what then is a MacBook Pro? It is as the title of this review suggests, the computing equivalent of a Rolls Royce. Vast amounts of power, beautifully built, it is way more notebook than most of its buyers would ever need. If you do not absolutely have to use a Windows machine and have deep enough wallets, this is the best ultraportable notebook you can buy today.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro leaves little - if anything - to be desired. It's an incredible laptop with more power and performance than most will ever need or utilise, a fantastic build quality, an incredible display and a great battery life (from our experience so far). Its biggest downfall is of course that all this greatness comes at a price - which ranges from $1999/£2149 to a whopping $6499/£6749 fully specced. It would also have been nice to see Face ID, and while we are on our wishlist, a touchscreen wouldn't have gone amiss either. But even without those things, it's still impossible not to adore this machine. Should you buy it? If you have the budget, we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it, but there is also an argument for considering the MacBook Pro (M1 Pro/Max) models, which are still fantastic machines two years on and may be cheaper now if you can get hold of them. In the same breath, it's likely the same will be said for these M2 Pro/Max models two years down the road so they would be a solid investment. Whether you should upgrade from the M1 Pro/Max models really does depend on what you do with your laptop and whether you can justify the price for the performance gains, but for those on older MacBooks, this a dream machine that will deliver noticeable performance improvements instantly.

The Asus Zenbook Pro 14 OLED for instance is in many ways a brilliant laptop on its own, packing an Intel Core i9, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 and a 14.5-inch OLED display that for many will be just as good as the Liquid Retina XDR panel here. It’s also RM10,999, which isn’t that far off from our MacBook Pro 14 that we have here. Then there’s the Dell XPS 15 that offers an Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 4050 with a 15.6-inch, 3.5K OLED display, also priced at RM10,999. All in all, the new MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro is kinda ticking all the right boxes at the moment for a high performance, professional laptop.

It’s hard to look for flaws in a notebook that’s consistently rated 4.5 stars, especially when not much has changed. The design, while a bit staid, is still beautiful, the display is bright and colorful, even the speakers and keyboard are great. In fact, the MacBook Pro 14 has only gotten better with the addition of Apple’s new M3 chip, which delivers better overall and gaming performance than its predecessor with even longer battery life. And while consumers faithful to the discontinued MacBook Pro 13 are going to gnash their teeth about having to fork out an additional $300 for the $1,599 MacBook Pro. It’s simply the best all-round MacBook Pro on the market that can do everything well without breaking the bank hands down.

Overall, Apple made the right move consolidating and getting rid of the 13-inch Pro. That extra inch of screen is great, everything works beautifully, and the return of physical function keys on the entry-level MacBook Pro is chef’s kiss. I just wish you got more for the starting price — $1,599 is too much for 8GB of RAM, and just because you can’t use two external displays with an M3 chip doesn’t mean you couldn’t make the most out of three Thunderbolt ports. It’s hard to tell who Apple imagines using this entry-level MacBook Pro. It seems to have a clearer idea of the serious Pros and the hordes of casual users. But the line between an Air and an entry-level Pro is blurrier than ever. I consider myself smack dab in the heavy Air user / light Pro user category. I spent a lot of time hopping between them while writing this review, running numbers while sifting through various configurations. It just turned me into the confused math lady meme. Gripes aside, I’ve been very happy using this as my daily driver for the past week.

Que dire en fin de compte, si ce n'est "Beau. Délirant", comme Apple lui-même qualifie la génération actuelle de MacBook Pro? "Beau", c'est ce que le MacBook Pro est, et il est très agréable à utiliser au quotidien. Mais si cette vie quotidienne n'est pas faite de vidéos 8K et de projets de rendu à terminer en route, alors c'est "fou" de dépenser autant d'argent pour des performances démentielles à moins, bien sûr, que vous n'aimiez simplement la technologie et que vous ne souhaitiez rouler avec cette sensation de "je pourrais si je le voulais" des voitures à forte puissance. Pour tous les autres, les modèles M3 et M3 Pro moins puissants, à partir de 1999 euros, ont beaucoup plus de sens. Vous y trouverez également une puissance phénoménale, le même boîtier avec le pavé tactile et le clavier, ainsi que le fameux écran et vous ne courrez pas le risque de trouver votre porte-monnaie.

L'écran Liquid Retina XDR est toujours ce qu'il se fait de mieux avec une qualité d'image et un contraste exceptionnels. Et malgré cette débauche de qualités, l'autonomie est facilement d'une journée de travail. Le MacBook Pro 14 pouces (2023) est donc un excellent ordinateur portable qui frôle le sans-faute. On regrettera tout juste que le ventilateur se fasse légèrement entendre en pleine charge avec la puce M3 Max. Nous aurions aussi apprécié que la Pomme livre un chargeur et un câble assortis au noir sidéral.

If you’re for that top-end model, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The M3 Pro and M3 configurations, however, are a different story. We already know for sure that the M3 Pro has both reduced memory bandwidth and fewer performance cores than the M2 Pro. That certainly doesn’t sound good. But until performance is tested firsthand though, we won’t know for sure how those will affect overall performance. Even with an M1 Max, you can probably wait another year, unless you’ve deep pockets and/or a never-ending desire for the latest and greatest kit. And if you’re still unsure whether this is the Mac for you, ask yourself if you need all that power – or just want to show off. If not, an M3 Pro or even an M3 might be enough. But if so, this is the best Apple has to offer in a portable form factor – and even gives the company’s most powerful desktops a run for their money.

If you want to see how wild Apple’s prices can get, just look at the 16-inch MacBook Pro I received, which clocks in at $7,199 with the full-powered M3 Max (16-core CPU, 40-core GPU) 128GB of RAM and that 8TB SSD. It's not something an average consumer would buy — but it would definitely be useful for Disney to have a pile of them on-hand to help editors and VFX artists pump out the latest Marvel show. Funny enough, my advice today echoes what I said last year: Don't buy the cheapest model. Beyond that, it's hard to go wrong. The M3 chips are incredibly efficient and powerful. And Apple's MacBook Pro design remains as elegant as ever. Just try to save up for at least 16GB of RAM.

If you want to see how wild Apple’s prices can get, just look at the 16-inch MacBook Pro I received, which clocks in at $7,199 with the full-powered M3 Max (16-core CPU, 40-core GPU) 128GB of RAM and that 8TB SSD. It's not something an average consumer would buy — but it would definitely be useful for Disney to have a pile of them on-hand to help editors and VFX artists pump out the latest Marvel show. Funny enough, my advice today echoes what I said last year: Don't buy the cheapest model. Beyond that, it's hard to go wrong. The M3 chips are incredibly efficient and powerful. And Apple's MacBook Pro design remains as elegant as ever. Just try to save up for at least 16GB of RAM.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

Apple M3 10-Core GPU: Adaptateur graphique intégré conçu par Apple et doté de 10 cœurs.
