Le Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 Founders Edition est un GPU SFF basé sur le dernier GPU GB203 Blackwell de Nvidia. La Prime RTX 5080 OC offre des horloges légèrement plus élevées que la RTX 5080 Founders Edition, mais les gains de performance dans le monde réel ne sont pas nécessairement proportionnels à l'augmentation du prix.

Verdict : GPU RTX 5080 SFF avec une proposition de valeur discutable

Asus a pris une décision intéressante cette année en élargissant sa série Prime, traditionnellement axée sur le milieu de gamme, pour y inclure la RTX 5080. La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition se veut une alternative à la RTX 5080 Founders Edition de Nvidia.

La Prime RTX 5080 OC arbore un design minimaliste mais fonctionnel qui n'occupe que 2,5 emplacements, ce qui la rend idéale pour les constructions à petit facteur de forme (SFF).

En termes de performances brutes, la Prime RTX 5080 OC Edition offre une modeste amélioration de 2 à 3 % par rapport à la RTX 5080 FE, à la fois dans les benchmarks synthétiques et dans les scénarios de jeu réels.

L'amélioration par rapport à la Radeon RX 7900 XTX est plus tangible, de l'ordre de 10 à 13 % selon le benchmark ou le jeu.

La Prime RTX 5090 OC bénéficie également de la pile logicielle tant vantée de Nvidia, et la carte prend pleinement en charge les dernières capacités de génération multi-images DLSS 4 de l'architecture Blackwell.

Asus a incorporé une solution de refroidissement efficace pour la Prime RTX 5080 OC qui maintient les émissions de chaleur et de bruit de la carte à un niveau raisonnable compte tenu des performances offertes.

Bien que vous ne puissiez pas vous tromper avec la Prime RTX 5080 OC, il y a quelques mises en garde à faire. La consommation de cette carte en jeu peut être légèrement plus élevée que celle de la RTX 5080 FE, sans gain perceptible en termes d'images.

La VRAM GDDR7 de 16 Go, bien que beaucoup plus rapide que l'implémentation GDDR6X de l'année dernière, peut rapidement devenir un goulot d'étranglement dans certains titres exigeants, bien que cela s'applique à toutes les RTX 5080 en général.

L'aspect le plus controversé de la Prime RTX 5080 OC est son prix. En supposant que vous puissiez vous en procurer une, attendez-vous à payer 321$ de plus que les 999$ de la RTX 5080 FE pour un gain de performance pratiquement nul.

Avec les cartes RX 7900 XTX qui reviennent à leur prix de lancement après les récentes baisses de prix et la Radeon RX 9070 XT basée sur RDNA 4 qui se profile à l'horizon, il est peut-être préférable d'attendre et d'observer comment la dynamique des prix évolue dans les semaines à venir avant de dépenser votre argent.

Une visite rapide de l'Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition

Mesurant 304 x 126 x 50 mm, la Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC est légèrement plus épaisse que la RTX 5080 FE. Elle reste cependant une carte SFF, n'occupant que 2,5 emplacements.

Le capot avant est en plastique de haute qualité, même si nous l'aurions souhaité plus robuste, et il est complété par une plaque arrière en métal.

Les logos "GeForce RTX " et " PRIME " sont bien visibles sur la face avant, mais il n'y a pas de RGB autour.

Ports : 3x DisplayPort 2.1b-out, 1x HDMI 2.1b-out

La Prime RTX 5080 OC offre une gamme typique de connecteurs d'affichage comme la grande majorité des GPU sur le marché. Les trois connecteurs DisplayPort supportent enfin la norme DisplayPort 2.1b.

Contrairement à la série TUF Gaming qui propose deux sorties HDMI, la Prime RTX 5080 OC se contente d'une seule sortie HDMI 2.1b.

Un connecteur 12VHPWR assure l'alimentation de la carte. Asus fournit un adaptateur 12VHPWR vers 3x 8 broches pour les alimentations qui ne sont pas compatibles ATX 3.x.

Comme pour les autres cartes Asus, un indicateur LED situé à côté du connecteur 12VHPWR s'allume en rouge pour signaler une mauvaise connexion de l'adaptateur ou une alimentation inadéquate.

La Prime RTX 5080 OC dispose d'un commutateur de mode Dual-BIOS qui permet de basculer entre les modes Performance et Silence. Nous avons utilisé le mode Performance pour tous les benchmarks et avons également comparé les niveaux de bruit des ventilateurs entre les deux modes.

Il n'y a pas de support de GPU avec tournevis intégré comme dans la série TUF Gaming, probablement en raison du format compact de la carte.

La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC est conçue pour un boost clock par défaut de 2 655 MHz, soit 38 MHz de plus que la Founders Edition, tout en conservant la même puissance graphique totale de 360 W (TGP). En mode Performance, cette carte peut atteindre un pic de 2 685 MHz.

Il est possible d'augmenter la limite de puissance de 11 % supplémentaires pour un TGP maximum de 400 W.

Benchmarks synthétiques : La RTX 5080 FE devance la RTX 5080 FE d'un cheveu

La Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition a des performances plus ou moins similaires à celles de la RTX 5080 FE dans les benchmarks synthétiques. Les boosts légèrement plus élevés se traduisent par un avantage de seulement 2% dans les tests cumulés 3DMark et Unigine.

Pendant ce temps, la Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7900 XTX parvient à gagner 4% sur la Prime RTX 5080 OC dans 3DMark Fire Strike Graphics mais se fait écraser dans les tests Port Royal et Speed Way qui impliquent le ray tracing.

La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition ne devance la RTX 5080 FE que par la plus petite des marges dans les tests de jeu cumulés à 1080p, 1440p et 4K Ultra, tout en dépassant la Radeon RX 7900 XTX de 13 % au total.

La plus grande avance de la RX 7900 XTX vient de F1 24 en 4K Ultra, où la Prime RTX 5080 OC est 47% plus rapide.

Il est intéressant de noter que sur Alan Wake 2, le GPU phare RDNA 3 affiche des gains allant jusqu'à 12% par rapport à la Prime RTX 5080 OC et jusqu'à 18% par rapport à la RTX 5080 FE.

L'avance de la RX 7900 XTX dans Alan Wake 2 raster ne peut pas être reportée dans les paramètres de ray tracing, où elle est derrière la Prime RTX 5080 OC de 47% en 4K.

Sur Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, la Prime RTX 5080 OC prend 58% d'avance sur la RX 7900 XTX. Cependant, les gains provenant de la RTX 5080 FE sont plutôt minuscules.

Les 16 Go de VRAM GDDR7 de la RTX 5080 sont 30% plus rapides que l'équivalent GDDR6X de la RTX 4080 Super. Cependant, cela peut s'avérer être une limitation majeure dans certains paramètres des titres AAA modernes.

Par exemple, il est impossible de naviguer dans les menus, et encore moins de jouer, dans Indiana Jones and the Great Circle lorsque le traçage complet des chemins est activé à 4K. L'activation de DLSS et de la génération d'images n'aide pas non plus.

Génération de trames multiples DLSS 4

Seule une poignée de titres prend actuellement en charge DLSS 4 multi-frame generation (MFG). Cependant, de nombreux autres jeux pris en charge peuvent utiliser DLSS 4 (pour tous les GPU RTX) et MFG (pour les GPU Blackwell uniquement) par le biais d'overrides dans l'application Nvidia

Comparé à Alan Wake 2 ou Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, Star Wars Outlaws montre des gains de 5-7% sur la Prime RTX 5080 OC par rapport à la RTX 5080 FE avec DLSS et frame generation activés.

Curieusement, nous avons remarqué un résultat anormal dans Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty avec MFG 2x activé dans le preset 4K Ray Tracing Overdrive, où la Prime RTX 5080 OC a été 31% plus lente que la RTX 5080 FE.

Malgré une double vérification des paramètres, du pilote et de la version du système d'exploitation pour les deux tests, la carte d'Asus s'est retrouvée à la traîne de façon inattendue.

La carte Asus Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition a plus d'un tour dans son sac pour gérer les températures. Il n'y a pas de matériau d'interface thermique en métal liquide, mais Asus indique que la carte utilise un coussin thermique à changement de phase pour une meilleure conductivité, couplé à une combinaison chambre à vapeur - dissipateur de chaleur.

De plus, la plaque arrière métallique ventilée est conçue pour faciliter la dissipation de la chaleur.

Épreuve d'effort

Un court test de stress avec FurMark (1280x720, sans AA) montre que la Prime RTX 5080 OC peut atteindre sa puissance nominale de 2685 MHz tout en consommant 360 W avec des températures moyennes autour de 74,6 °C.

Avec Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty en 1080p Ultra, la Prime RTX 5080 OC peut atteindre 2 880 MHz pour une consommation de 303 W et une température moyenne de 68 °C.

Cela montre que Blackwell est assez similaire à Ada lorsqu'il s'agit d'augmenter les horloges de manière opportuniste en fonction de la marge de manœuvre thermique et énergétique disponible.

Le capot avant de la Prime RTX 5080 OC reste assez froid même en cas de forte charge, bien que la plaque arrière atteigne 62 °C, et la zone du GPU peut atteindre 78 °C lorsque la température ambiante est de 23 °C

Nous avons enregistré des températures autour de 46 °C près de la zone du connecteur 12VHPWR, ce qui n'est pas inquiétant.

Les trois ventilateurs axiaux de la Prime RTX 5080 OC s'arrêtent complètement au repos

Les triples ventilateurs Axial-tech de la Prime RTX 5080 OC sont dotés de roulements à billes doubles et de pales plus longues pour une fiabilité et un refroidissement accrus.

Dans la courbe de ventilation par défaut, les ventilateurs s'arrêtent au ralenti lorsque la température du cœur est inférieure à 50 °C.

Nous avons enregistré un niveau de pression acoustique (SPL) maximal de 47,6 dB(A) lors d'un test FurMark à une puissance cible de 111 %.

Les utilisateurs peuvent choisir entre les modes Performance et Quiet du VBIOS, le mode Quiet étant largement efficace pour limiter les niveaux de bruit autour de 40 db(A).

Gestion de l'énergie : Des gains d'efficacité bienvenus dans les jeux par rapport à la RX 7900 XTX

La Prime GeForce RTX 5080 OC Edition consomme moins d'énergie que la RTX 5080 FE dans FurMark (1,280x720, pas d'AA) malgré une cadence plus élevée.

Inversement, alors que la consommation d'énergie pour Cyberpunk 2077 1080p Ultra est pratiquement identique entre la Prime RTX 5080 OC et le GPU RTX 5080 FE, la carte Asus affiche une consommation d'énergie supérieure de 13% par rapport à la FE dans The Witcher 3 à 1080p Ultra.

En conséquence, le GPU Prime est 4% plus économe en énergie que la carte FE dans Cyberpunk 2077, tandis que cette dernière montre une efficacité supérieure de 13% dans The Witcher 3.

Ceci étant dit, la Prime RTX 5080 OC est 20% plus économe en énergie dans Witcher 3 que la Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
