If smartphones have personalities, the Poco X7 would be that extroverted friend that's dressed in bright colours, and bedecked in jewellery. It's eye-catching, is what I'm saying about the black (with yellow stripes) vegan leather version that I tested. It's a pretty solid mid-range phone, too, with a dash of flagship features thrown into the mix. Not shabby at all for a phone that costs around S$400. The only problem: The Poco X7 Pro seems like a much better deal. While I'm not a fan of this design, Poco does include a black silicon case that turns it into a plain Jane. More importantly, the phone feels good in the hand. It's slim and isn't heavy at 190g. The vegan leather finish also improves the grip. Another bonus: The Poco X7 is IP68 certified for dust and water resistance, which is really nice for its price.

With the Xiaomi Poco X7 and X7 Pro, Xiaomi planned to bring enthusiast-level gaming phones but at a budget, and they have certainly succeeded at that. The two smartphones feature premium hardware in almost every aspect. Let’s start with the design of Poco X7 and X7 Pro. They have a fantastic design, which not only looks good but also feels solid in the hand, especially the vegan leather models. The displays of the two phones are extremely bright and have many of the latest technologies, including Dolby Vision. The performance is also quite satisfactory and they are capable of running games at high graphical fidelity, thanks to the powerful chipsets. The cameras are also fantastic and are capable of taking some amazing pictures, at least from the main rear camera. The selfie camera performance is quite good.

Overall, the POCO X7 is a solid choice for competitive games like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty: Mobile, running them smoothly without performance issues. However, it struggles with heavier games, Zenless Zone Zero was disappointing, while Genshin Impact delivered an unexpectedly decent experience. The POCO X7 is available at PHP14,999 for the 8GB+256GB model and PHP16,999 for the 12GB+512GB version.

After spending a good amount of time with both the Poco X7 and X7 Pro, here’s the deal: if you’re looking for a phone that punches way above its weight, the Poco X7 Pro is the one to go for. It’s not just a slight upgrade over the X7 — it’s a proper powerhouse. From its top-tier performance and gorgeous flat display to that massive 6,550mAh battery and 90W charging, it’s a phone that feels like it should cost way more than it does. Gamers, power users, or anyone who wants a premium experience without breaking the bank? This is your phone. That said, the Poco X7 is no slouch either. It’s a solid mid-range smartphone in its own right. It has a beautiful curved display, decent performance, and a camera that holds its own in good lighting.

The Poco X7 starts at Rs. 21,999 for the 128GB storage model while the X7 Pro at Rs. 27,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage model. The X7 is a great value proposition for users looking to upgrade to a smartphone under Rs. 25,000 at these prices. While X7 Pro is a better deal, it offers more for less, and thanks to its fresh design approach, it becomes an excellent package under Rs. 30,000. While there are shortcomings, for example, bloatware is the biggest issue for Poco X7 and X7 Pro, whereas the cameras are not class-leading. Additionally, the software update promise isn't comparable to the competition. But, when it comes to performance credentials, the X7 and X7 Pro deliver and can also outshine their competition. The X7 goes up against the iQOO Z9s, which retails at under Rs. 20,000 and the Motorola Edge 50 Neo (Review). For the X7 Pro, the two closest alternatives are the OnePlus Nord 4 (Review) and Motorola Edge 50 Fusion (Review).

The budget range isn’t what it used to be, and that’s no bad thing. In recent years it has become jam-packed with quality offerings, which might make the proposition of choosing an individual phone more difficult, but which also conversely means most choices will be a safe one. And that describes the Poco X7, as a safe choice. It has a somewhat old design that lacks pizzazz, there’s nothing in its spec sheet which really jumps out, it’s a series of sensible decisions coalesced into a middle of the road smartphone. That isn’t to say that the experience of using it is bad, or even boring. It flies through most tasks, it has good battery life and a pleasant screen, and for many people that will be enough.

Deciding between the POCO X7, X7 Pro, and X7 Pro – Iron Man Edition hinges on your needs and priorities. The POCO X7 is a strong contender for those seeking reliable performance on a budget. Its Dimensity 7300-Ultra processor handles everyday tasks easily, and the 6.67-inch AMOLED display delivers vibrant visuals. The durable 5110mAh battery and 45W fast charging ensure you stay powered throughout the day. With its classic design and robust features, the X7 is a practical choice for users looking for value without compromise. The X7 Pro transforms the series with its cutting-edge Dimensity 8400-Ultra chipset, providing unmatched speed and exceptional efficiency. Designed for gamers and multitaskers, it delivers seamless performance for demanding applications and intensive tasks. The camera system performs well in lighting, providing good-quality photos and videos.

The POCO X7 5G is a good addition to the lineup and has a lot of things going for it. The phone comes in a robust, well-designed chassis, and has a top-notch display, which delivers a great multimedia experience. It also offers decent camera performance in daylight, while the battery backup is equally good. Its chief competitors include the iQOO Z9s (review) and the Moto Edge 50 Neo (review). The iQOO Z9s is another performance-centric device that comes with a similar processor and is a better performer than the POCO X7 at a cheaper price. It has similar battery life and charging speeds too, but its cameras are a notch behind the POCO X7. The Moto Edge 50 Neo also comes with a similar chipset and matches the POCO X7’s performance and cameras, but its battery life isn’t as great, so heavy users might feel the pinch.

While it doesn’t offer a huge leap over the POCO X6, it introduces a refined design, a newer chipset, and impressive durability. For those seeking a reliable midrange device with solid features and long-term software support, the POCO X7 is a good choice. However, with many competitors in this price range, it might not stand out unless you value its specific features.

The Poco X7 represents excellent value for money. Not only has Xiaomi provided improvements in build and camera quality compared to previous models, it’s managed to do so while lowering the asking price. Battery life, performance and display quality remain competitive with rival phones and, while it’s a shame to note that charging speed has gotten a little worse this time around, you still get a decent 45W plug in the box. If there’s one lingering concern it’s that Xiaomi continues to lag behind on the software front, with a fussy UI and a mediocre update promise. The competition from Motorola and Samsung have much to recommend them on this front, among others. However, the Poco X7 has the hardware chops and aggressive pricing to keep it in the mix.

The Poco X7 is not a major step up from the Poco X6. It comes with a refreshed design, a newer chipset and a better camera, but the complete water resistance and the enhanced shock absorption are probably the most notable improvements. Still, if you are not coming from a Poco X6 or Redmi Note 14 Pro, the Poco X7 will impress you with design, screen and even performance. We found its battery life and charging good enough, and its rich connectivity options are a big plus. The Poco X7 main camera does not live up to our expectations as it didn't offer a lossless 2x zoom, which was available on the Poco X6 (with a solid 4x option even, too). While the Poco X7 Pro comes with HyperOS 2 and Android 15, the X7 comes with HyperOS 1 and Android 14, which means one less major upgrade for this phone.
