Tecno has shared its take on the foldable smartphone, although its version also finds a way to turn into a 10-inch tablet on command. It does so by integrating the emerging rollable display type. The OEM touts the Phantom Vision V as part of its commitment to "innovation", although others such as Samsung and TCL might not agree.

Tecno has reportedly completed a concept for a flexible display smartphone that can do more than even the highest-end foldable smartphones of today. Like the OPPO Find N2 or Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, it can take the form of a (kind of) conventionally-proportioned smartphone or a small tablet, yet goes beyond that as one "half" of its main screen is extendable.

Accordingly, Tecno touts the Phantom Vision V as further proof of its status on the bleeding edge of personal devices. However, as with its X2 Pro, touted as a world first despite the existence of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom that could have said the same, it seems to have forgotten that similar previous IP exists.

TCL, for example, might take issue with Tecno's claims as it technically got to this prototype design first with its Fold 'n Roll concept. In addition, Samsung, for one, has also patented the rollable display. Then again, the Phantom Vision V is fleshed out with some tweaks all its own.

For example, it is depicted as having 3 different screens: its cover, "ultra-durable" main panel when unfolded, and a "Delicate Multi-Functional Display" found under its large, Phantom X2-like camera hump, which could be used for functions such as a clock.

In addition, Tecno offers what could be concrete specs for a real-life model, a "patented, long-lasting" hinge and "aerospace-grade titanium alloy casing" included.

The Vision V is also touted to improve on areas such as bezel size and overall footprint in the foldable arena, despite its ability to convert into a "10.1-inch Super-Immersive" tablet at need. Therefore, Tecno just might be first to get this emerging form-factor to the market after all.
