If you don’t baulk at the price, the Z4 Tablet is the pick of the Android tablet crop at the moment, at least as far as full-sized, 10-inch fondleslabs go. The slim profile and bantam weight are obviously appealing features, as is the 4G connectivity and rather impressive keyboard dock. The powerful chipset, visually impressive screen, strong battery life and good-for-a-tablet cameras are the icing on a pretty darned fine Android cake.

There’s no denying Sony has tried to create an iPad killer. Has it succeeded? Probably not, it’s a struggle to drag people kicking and screaming away from their iOS slate, especially when the only other real option is Android. That said, Sony has created the next best thing and it’s certainly the best Android tablet available right now on the market. The beautiful 2K display makes watching video and browsing the internet a dream and the fact you can do it all from your bath tub makes it even more exciting.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is a seriously impressive device and easily one of the best tablets we've ever tested. The design is astonishingly thin and light and the waterproofing with only the need for one cover is a bonus. This topped with excellent hardware, performance and software means we can barely fault it. However, the fact Sony bundles it with the Bluetooth keyboard with no option to buy it alone means that it's more expensive than rivals. We feel it's a 9/10 products but we've no choice but to mark the value score lower.

Sony's naming convention has become a little obscure in the Xperia line, with the Z4 Tablet really replacing the Xperia Z2 Tablet (the Z3 Tablet being a smaller 8-inch model). But this latest offering, despite its determined large scale and design, does address some of the issues we had with the previous device.

Carrying these beastly specs like Snapdragon 810 and 3GB of RAM don’t come at a price like overheating, though. This is really important to consider, because other Snapdragon 810 devices are having overheating issues. Luckily, this does not apply in our case. Along with that, we are delighted with the camera quality as well, but the same cannot be said about the battery life. This will remain the main issue of this model and drags way behind its predecessor Xperia Z2 Tablet. And judging by the specs and result difference, can conclude that the QHD screen isn’t the main hardware draining the battery. Snapdragon 810 doesn’t appear to be energy-efficient as Qualcomm claims.

If you can afford to shell out £500 on a tablet, then yes. The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is an excellent piece of kit: it’s quick, powerful, effortlessly good-looking and incredibly light. The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has all the style, power and stunning screen quality necessary to make it a true iPad Air 2 rival.

There's a nagging sense that the Xperia Z4 Tablet, with its sparse ports and entertainment-focused bloatware, doesn't quite achieve its potential as an enterprise product. That's a shame, because the bundled keyboard (while flawed) and free Office software are bold moves in a clearly professional direction.

If Sony sells the Z4 without a bundled keyboard dock in the US -- the company has not responded to my request for comment on the matter-- then it'd be easy to recommend this to anyone looking for an Android tablet. Yes, it has shortcomings -- namely woeful speakers and a reflection-loving display -- but there's a lot to love here. This could be the perfect tablet for you.

Although Sony’s attempt to turn the Xperia Z4 Tablet into a hybrid via the included keyboard dock is largely a failure, the Z4 is still one of the best 10in Android tablets available. It still has a few flaws, but if you want an Android-based alternative to the iPad then this is the tablet to get.

Just as it looked like 10in tablets were on the way out, Sony's come up with another stunner. The tablet on its own isn’t a massive departure from what we got last year, but by making a keyboard module a big part of the package, we get a whole new side to the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet. Now it’s handy for work as well as play.

To wind up things, the 2K Sony Xperia Z4 tablet is a great companion for any photographer that wants to present their portfolio on a high performance tablet. The tablet feels light and yet so premium to hold. Google should honestly consider approaching Sony for its next Nexus 10 tablet. It’s easily one of the best Android tablet I’ve used till date.

I think the Xperia Z4 Tablet is great and I do believe it's the one true alternative to the iPad. Android is still not the perfect ecosystem for tablets but with a 2K display on the front and such a nice looking design this is the best way to do it yet. It does still have its issues in the camera and the UI set up but overall it's a much more enjoyable experience than we've seen from a Sony tablet before.

While Sony is busy figuring out what to do with its flagship phone line, the Xperia Z4 Tablet manages to make a compelling case for the entire Z-series. It obviously won't get as much exposure, or generate the same sales numbers as a top-end smartphone, but shows that Sony is still capable of putting together a proficient smart device. For starters, the tablet impresses with its slim profile. At 6.1mm it's currently tied at the top of the thinness chart, together with the iPad Air 2. More impressively though, the Sony tablet easily wins the weight competition, which is arguably what matters more in daily use.

There’s a lot more to love than at worst, dislike about the Xperia Z4 tablet. Sure, the interface might feel a tad soulless and the £500 starting price has the potential to put you off, but make a serious commitment to this purchase and there's little doubt that you'll be pleased with the decision for the long haul.

The Sony Xperia Z4 tablet is a really great swcixw. It's easily going to scream into second place in the race for best tablet, and will be streets ahead in the league table of best Android tablets. It's got a lovely screen, lightweight design, all the Sony elements you'd look for and the right power combination to keep it at the forefront of slate technology for a few years, which is how long users will have it for.

At a price of £499 this is not a cheap option, however the Xperia Z4 shows a lot of promise as a thin and lightweight device that offers great specs under the hood. Sony has maintained the great features included in the previous models of the Xperia before adding some new breakthroughs such as waterproofing, 2K screen, thinner profile, and sound enhancements.

Sony's year-old Xperia Z2 Tablet really impressed us when it launched, and still impresses us now. If you already own the Z2 Tablet and are thinking about upgrading, we'd recommend holding on to it – it remains a great tablet that can still compete with many of its rival high-end competitors.

This is a case of horses for courses. The 8in form factor is great for reading, or watching and playing whilst on the move. If you need to stand up on your commute, for instance. Meanwhile Sony's 10in tablet is a stylish and powerful full-sized slate. If you are in the market for an Android tablet, Sony's devices are high-quality, fairly priced.

It's hard to give a definitive verdict on which you should buy, because it will depend on your priorities. Those wanting a keyboard for typing documents should be well served by the Xperia Z4 Tablet. It also outshines the Surface Pro 3 for entertainment, because the Google Play store has a far better selection of apps and games than the Windows Store. If you need to run Windows programs that go beyond Office, your only option here is the Surface Pro 3. It's more expensive, bigger and heavier than the Sony tablet, but the 12in screen is more comfortable to look at if you'll be working long hours with it.

Thanks to the ultra thin and light body, the Z4 Tablet can be carried around as an additional document folder or paper notebook and not any more as a heavy laptop, which makes it a good productivity device as well as a great content delivery platform with excellent performance and connection to Sony entertainment services.

In typical Sony fashion, the Xperia Z4 Tablet is slimmer, weighs next to nothing, and is waterproof. With the Z4 Tablet, Sony leverages its tried and tested OmniBalance design aesthetics from its Xperia Z range of smartphones for the Xperia Z4 Tablet. We think this design approach works in the favour of the Z4 Tablet but it doesn't look too different from the previous generation tablet from Sony.

Again Sony looks set to offer the best of the rest in the race to rival the iPad. The Xperia Z4 Tablet is undeniably beautiful, with a screen that can melt your heart as well as your eyes. Slightly flimsy build could be its downfall, but I can’t wait for another play.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is a great looking device and one that introduces some serious improvements on its predecessor. It's slim, light, well built and because of all these combined, a pleasure to use. The reduction in bezel surrounding the 10.1-inch display does it wonders in terms of design appeal and the brighter, crisper display delivers some beautiful vibrant colours from what we could tell.

In comparison with the market-leading iPad Air 2, it's the same thickness and a decent 45 g lighter so tops marks to Sony. The Xperia Z4 Tablet feels great in the hand with the weight particularly making it easy to handle. The firm calls it the 'World's lightest 10in tablet with brightest 2K display'. With so many strings to its bow, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet looks as though it could be one of the best 10in tablets we'll see this year. While its design continues in its predecessor's extremely stylish footsteps, its new work capabilities and high-resolution screen give it plenty of advantages over its top competitors. While Sony's yet to announce a firm release date for the Xperia Z4 Tablet yet, it did say it should launch in the UK sometime this spring, so check back then to see our final verdict.

Qualcomm Adreno 430:
