While the latest Lenovo Legion Pro 7i looks like a simple refresh for 2023, the move to the latest Intel and Nvidia hardware marks a major improvement in capability for gaming and everything else. The tried-and-true design may look the same, but Nvidia's gaming chops are better than ever before (especially when DLSS 3 is supported in a given game), and battery life got a decent improvement, even if it still has room for more. Throw in extras—like the per-key lighting on the keyboard and niche features like Tobii headtracking—and you have a fantastic premium-level mobile PC gaming rig. We won't act as if this laptop isn't expensive (nearly $3,000), but it's a lot cheaper than the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 and the ultra-pricey MSI Titan GT77 (2023). It's still not cheap, but it's a heck of a lot more affordable than the nearly $5,000 price that this level of performance has commanded recently. That's enough for the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 to replace the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE as our favorite 16-inch gaming laptop, earning it our Editors' Choice award.

If you’re looking for a machine that handles games better than an ultrabook, and want to keep spending down, this Pro7i offers great features and performance for its price.

The Legion Pro 7i is one of my favorite gaming laptops, and easily one of the best you can buy right now — packing plenty of power alongside a vivid display into a premium, durable frame. Not only that, but the keyboard is a joy to type on, the touchpad is surprisingly satisfying to use given my experience with spongy gaming laptop pads in the past, and that 240Hz refresh rate on the screen is great for your eSports needs. Add to that the RTX 4070 performance paired with that speedy Intel Core i9 CPU, and the ton of I/O on here, and this is a solid package. That’s not to say there aren't some flaws: the webcam isn’t that great, and the fans whir up a storm. But at its core, this is both a performant laptop for work by day (with the refined aesthetic to boot), and a beasty gaming system by night.

Ainsi s’achève une très bonne expérience avec un laptop qui ne fait pas semblant en termes de performance. Et si nous avons à chaque fois un peu de mal avec Lenovo et la conception du démontage, ici les composants ne nécessiteront pas d’upgrade avant un bon petit moment. Nous avons tout de même 32 Go de RAM et 2 To de stockage. D'un point de vue tarifaire, nous sommes sur la partie basse des grands cadors embarquant le même hardware, le plaçant aux côtés du Beast X40 tout en proposant une finition bien moins cheap que le Erazer, tout en le taquinant niveau performance et ce sans watercooling. Son tarif n’est certes pas à la portée de tous, mais il reste le meilleur de sa catégorie d'un point de vue jeux et performances.

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 is a real beast among gaming laptops. Thanks to the built-in components, we can enjoy all current games at high settings. Visually, the restrained, simple design makes it comfortable, and the RGB backlighting is an absolute highlight – you feel like you have a real gaming station on your desktop. As expected, the test results are very good. We have a powerful set of processor, video card, interfaces and connectivity modules. Everything in the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 meets the requirements of the most demanding gamers. The extra 1TB of storage included in the model I reviewed was especially welcome. The downsides are similarly predictable. It’s not the easiest laptop to carry around, and that’s before you factor in the weight of the massive power brick weighing down your bag. The battery life is also par for the course for gaming laptops, which is to say it’s largely there to keep you going when you can’t find anywhere to plug in. Even with those downsides, the Legion Pro 7i remains a fantastic laptop overall, and while the above issues are worth mentioning, they don’t hold it back. The Lenovo Legion Pro 7 is a powerhouse of a laptop with excellent performance across the board. The RTX 4090 and Intel Core i9-14900HX is a potent combination, which gave us some of our best benchmark results to date and are able to consistently churn out top-tier performance. This paired with the 16-inch colour-accurate, QHD+ 16:10 ratio display makes it a top choice for both gamers and creators. Furthermore, you’ve got plenty of I/O options – with the potential of connecting three additional displays or even an external GPU thanks to the Thunderbolt 4 port. All in all, we’d say this gaming laptop packs all the punches. Earlier in the year we tested the Lenovo Legion 9i, which featured a 13th gen Intel Core i9-13980HX paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU. Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" de la légende anglaise, novo (latin) pour nouveau) a été fondée en 1984 en tant que société chinoise de commerce d'ordinateurs. En 2004, la société était le plus grand fabricant d'ordinateurs portables en Chine et, après l'acquisition de la division PC d'IBM en 2005, le quatrième au monde. En plus des ordinateurs de bureau et des ordinateurs portables, la société fabrique des moniteurs, des projecteurs, des serveurs, etc., et se spécialise dans le développement, la fabrication et la commercialisation d'électronique grand public, d'ordinateurs personnels, de logiciels, de solutions d'entreprise et de services connexes.
En 2016, l'entreprise s'est classée au premier rang mondial des ventes d'ordinateurs. Il le détenait encore en 2023 avec environ 23% de part de marché mondiale. Les gammes de produits importantes sont Thinkpad, Legion et Ideapad.
En 2011, elle a acquis une participation majoritaire dans Medion AG, un fabricant européen de matériel informatique. En 2014, Motorola Mobility a été racheté, ce qui a donné un coup de pouce à Lenovo sur le marché des smartphones.

Intel Raptor Lake-HX:
i9-13900HX: Sur la base de l'architecture Raptor-Lake, un processeur hybride mobile haut de gamme à 24 grains et 32 threads. Basé sur la puce Raptor-Lake-S 13900K.
i7-13700HX: CPU mobile basé sur la série Raptor Lake qui offre 16 cœurs (8 cœurs de performance, 8 cœurs d'efficacité). Similaire au Core i7-13700K de bureau, mais avec des vitesses d'horloge réduites.
i9-14900HX: Processeur mobile hybride haut de gamme basé sur l'architecture Raptor Lake avec 24 cœurs et 32 threads. Fréquence d'horloge maximale de 5,8 GHz (cœurs P).
AMD Dragon Range (Zen 4, Ryzen 7045):
R9 7945HX: Le processeur haut de gamme à 16 kHz avec 32 threads et le processeur Ryzen 9 pour ordinateur portable le plus rapide seront lancés en 2023. Il est cadencé à un maximum de 5,4 GHz et peut être utilisé dans des applications mono et multithreads. Il utilise l'architecture Zen 4 et a un TDP configurable de 55 à 75 watts.
