Kaby Lake X : courte critique de l'Intel Core i7-7740X

Intel's new Core i7-7740X for the socket 2066 proves to be the fastest CPU for gaming in the test. However, it is just a weak upgrade to Intel's Core i7-7700K that lags behind the Ryzen CPUs in multitasking due to its low core count.

Avec le Core i7-7740X, Intel prouve tout simplement que les CPU hautes performances sont compatibles avec le socket LGA 2066, sans être affecté par une consommation élevée ou des problèmes de température.

Cependant il s’agit d’une retouche du Core i7-7700K (elle possède les mêmes résultats dans les benchmarks), et il n’intègre pas de carte graphique (sans intérêt pour les joueurs). Alors que le i7-7700K coûte le même prix, mais tourne sur une carte-mère 1150 moins chère, il n’y a pas de raison pour les possesseurs de 1150 de passer au Core i7-7700X et à une nouvelle carte-mère.

Comparé aux derniers APU Ryzen, certains avantages dans les performances, parfois significatifs, peuvent être vus dans les benchmarks de jeu, à cause des taux d’horloge plus élevés. Mais leur pertinence concrète est plutôt faible. Les logiciels optimisés pour le multi-cœur bénéficient clairement d’avoir le double de cœurs dans les APU Ryzen d’un tarif proche – et cela sera probablement vrai des jeux à venir.
