Il n’est pas surprenant que le Core i9-7900X soit le processeur d’ordinateur de bureau le plus puissant que nous avons testé jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Il offre des performances jusqu’ici inégalées dans nos benchmarks et dans les jeux. Cependant, la variabilité des taux d’image est très élevée. Les hautes performances se font au détriment de la chauffe, et de la consommation. L’efficacité au moins est acceptable. Mais avec ces problèmes, ce serait exagéré de dire qu’il s’agit du meilleur du haut de gamme. Le Core i9-7900X apparaît un peu comme une contre-attaque, née de la détresse et d’énormes efforts.

Il n’y a pas de vraie raison d’acheter le processeur Skylake X à 1 000 €, alors que le Ryzen 7 1800X, et que pour ceux qui préfèrent Intel, le Core i7-7740X, possèdent une puissance largement suffisante pour les logiciels exigeants et les jeux. Le Ryzen 7 1800X en particulier tourne très bien avec des logiciels complexes, grâce à ses 16 threads. De ce fait, nous le recommandons aux consommateurs qui veulent le plus de puissance possible tout en cherchant à rester à un niveau raisonnable.

Il faut noter qu’Intel n’a pas visé les consommateurs classiques (ni même les joueurs), mais les professionnels, avec le processeur HEDT : le Ryzen 7 1800X appartient à une catégorie différente, qui maintient un excellent rapport performances / prix. Le Core i9 7900X est 30 % plus performant que le Ryzen, pour le double du prix.

Une comparaison entre les Skylake X et les Threadripper d’AMD peut être intéressante. En citant AMD dans une vidéo officielle, qui compare les Threadripper 1920X et 1950X au Core i9 7900, nous pouvons constater que le Threadripper possède une avance de performances relativement élevée. En outre, ils souffrent moins de problèmes techniques grâce à leur soudure, et à leur plus grande taille.
