Les smartphones sont de plus en plus puissants, les éditeurs ne suivent toujours pas encore afin de proposer de nouveaux jeux AAA capables de profiter des nouvelles performances qu’apportent les nouveaux SoC de Qualcomm. On est à l’aube de 2025 et quand on teste les jeux sur Android, on teste encore des titres comme Genshin Impact, Diablo Immortals ou encore Call of Duty Mobile. Ces jeux sont ultra optimisés depuis quelques années et on ne verra pas forcément, à l'usage, de différences entre un ROG Phone de l’année dernière et le nouveau ROG Phone 9 Pro. Mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir, on retrouve un smartphone puissant et endurant, le tout dans un design bien plus passe-partout. Si on ne conseillera pas forcément une mise à jour si on possède déjà le smartphone de l’année dernière, ceux qui ont des smartphones qui commencent à dater verront d’un bon oeil le changement.

The ROG Phone 9 Pro is IP68-rated, supports Qi charging and has a decent set of snappers; it just feels like a more complete package. That said, the value proposition muddies things a bit. But with a side port for easy charging and those fan-favourite AirTriggers, it’s a hard phone to pass up. Best of all, it’s still a great general-use phone.

To me, the ROG Phone 9 blurs the line of being a gaming phone and a standard flagship smartphone. It’s a great device for sure and given its price of RM3,999, you’re getting a 2025 flagship-caliber smartphone. You can take good photos with this, so you don’t have to feel like you’re making a huge compromise by going for a gaming phone but if camera is the focal point of your smartphone purchase decision, you might be better off with a standard flagship as those can give better colors and details. The ROG Phone 9 has been incredibly fun to use and play games with. It’s been fun bumping all the specs to their max and playing Wild Rift without the device getting warm. There were a lot of AI features, but most were game-related, and I didn’t use them for the game I was playing. The handset doesn’t take the best pictures, but if you’re not someone who takes a lot of shots, you probably won’t mind, especially if you’re a geek who just wants to play. The ROG Phone 9 is a solid phone, and I’m happy I got the chance to play around with the handset.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8:

SD 8 Elite: SoC (System on a Chip) haut de gamme pour smartphones présenté fin 2024. Il intègre deux cœurs rapides Oryon Gen 2 Prime Cores pouvant atteindre 4,32 GHz et 6 cœurs plus petits Oryon Gen 2 Performance Cores pouvant atteindre 3,53 GHz.

SD 8 Gen 3: SoC haut de gamme pour smartphones présenté fin 2022 avec un noyau principal rapide basé sur une architecture ARM Cortex-X3 cadencée à 3,2 GHz. Deux autres cœurs de performance sont basés sur l'A715 et ne prennent en charge que les applications 64 bits. Les deux autres cœurs A710 prennent également en charge les applications 32 bits, tout comme les cœurs Cortex-A510 à économie d'énergie. En plus des cœurs de processeur, le SoC intègre un modem WiFi 7, un DSP Hexagon (pour l'accélération de l'IA) et un ISP Spectra. Le contrôleur de mémoire intégré prend en charge la mémoire rapide LPDDR5x jusqu'à 4 200 MHz. la 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70.
