The iPhone 17 Pro models could feature a new display backplane technology called low-dielectric TEE. Low-dielectric TEE has the potential to offer improved power efficiency, durability, and better performance compared to the traditional LTPO backplane. This comes in the wake of supply chain info that Apple will bring LTPO-3 in the Watch Series 10 to the iPhone 18 or later iterations.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are just a few months old, but we've been hearing rumors about the iPhone 17 series for quite some time now. While we've heard of a possibility of an iPhone 17 Air, A19 Pro SoC, and 12 GB RAM, we now get to know that the iPhone 17 Pro series will use a new display technology that should offer better power savings and improved performance.

@Jukanlosreve on X notes that the iPhone 17 Pro series will use a low-dielectric TEE technology for their displays. TEE refers to Teflon, Ethylene, and Epoxy. According to the leaker, "low-dielectric TEE helps improve battery efficiency, maximizes display durability, and enhances overall performance compared to existing display technologies".

If true, the move from an LTPO backplane to low-dielectric TEE, combined with the purported efficiency improvements with the A19 Pro chip should help with improved battery life in the iPhone 17 Pro models. It is not yet clear if the transition to low-dielectric TEE would make any difference to the viewing experience.

LTPO is what enables ProMotion in the iPhone 13 Pro and above. This technology is also expected to make its way to the regular iPhone 17 phones next year, which are finally expected to offer 120 Hz screens. Supply chain also expects Apple to introduce LTPO-3, which first debuted in the Apple Watch Series 10, in an upcoming iPhone, presumably the iPhone 18.
