Despite its Android roots, the Xiaomi 13 is also aiming for budget-conscious Apple fans, as from the outside it looks rather a lot like an iPhone. However, on the inside, it's all Android, for better and worse, and when combined with a Leica-developed camera, impressive battery life, great screen and comfortable size, it feels like a winner. But for just a little bit more, you can get the mighty Xiaomi 13 Pro, and for a LOT less, you can get the almost-as-good Xiaomi 13 Lite, so the mainstream 13 risks getting lost in the shuffle...

At a price of around $1,100, the Xiaomi 13 is a definite improvement on past Xiaomi handsets, and shows that Xiaomi can step into the more “premium” ring when needed. A powerful chipset, gorgeous-looking display, and solid hardware design elevates the phone in comparison to other flagship devices out there. However, there are areas which can still be improved upon, like camera quality and software optimization for example, both of which are executed rather well by the Pixel 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23, at prices much more affordable than the Xiaomi 13’s base model price. Android enthusiasts looking to switch over from different brands might want to take a long hard look at what they’re getting with the Xiaomi 13, but Mi fans will no doubt feel at home here.

The Xiaomi 13 is a nice mid-to-premium range, mid-sized smartphone, with some nice features, and a reasonably good triple camera setup, however, it’s ever so slightly let down by the selfie-camera, which lacks 4K video recording, and lacks AF. This has been available on most higher end Samsung smartphones for several years, and is also available on the significantly cheaper Samsung Galaxy S22. At this price point, and in such a competitive market, smartphones really need to be giving users excellent cameras all-round, and in the case of the Xiaomi 13, the rear cameras are very good, but the ultra-wide-angle camera could be better (with AF), and the selfie camera could also be better. There’s also the lack of a dedicated macro mode, which means those looking for a smartphone for macro photography are better off looking elsewhere. We were also left having to second guess what the colour would look like, as the Leica Vibrant colour profile could vary wildly depending on the scene photographed. We didn’t want to use the Leica Authentic colour option as this was too muted for our tastes, either. Then in other modes these options disappear, and the AI setting can further muddy the waters and add confusion to the shooting experience. However, saying all this, you could quickly get used to the colour options if you weren’t comparing this phone to others, and it’s nice to see that the colours generally match between the ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto cameras, and if you’re a fan of highly saturated photos, then this might be to your liking. Unfortunately for Xiaomi, other brands like Apple, Samsung and Google, are ever so slightly more refined, and make the shooting experience just that little bit easier, and whilst this is still a very good smartphone, it doesn’t quite reach the same level of finesse as others. For just a little bit more money, you can get a smartphone with improved selfie camera, or better macro performance.

No doubt, the Xiaomi 13 is worthy of being called a flagship device, and we don’t have many complaints about it. Things just work, and they work extremely well. It’s a fuss-free phone that brings out the best of its latest hardware and components, bringing you the experience that matters. However, we would like the speaker system on the Xiaomi 13 could be improved to provide a more balanced sound stage – then it would be perfect (in my opinion). Ultimately, is the Xiaomi 13 worth S$1,199? We would say that if you want a premium smartphone with all the premium features for a no-compromise experience, then the Xiaomi 13, or perhaps the Xiaomi 13 Pro are choices that you can consider. On the other hand, if you can live without those premium features, there will be cheaper alternatives that can suit your needs too.

There's a lot to like with the Xiaomi 13, which looks great and is powered by a battery that you'll struggle to drain. U.K. users looking for top performance will want to turn to the Galaxy S23 and its optimized Snapdragon silicon, though.

Overall, the performance of Xiaomi 13 is in line with other high-end flagship phones. Although it's the standard model, you still get impressive specs and features. If you don't have any fancy requirements, you can't go wrong with getting this phone. There's only one variant of the Xiaomi 13 in Malaysia (12GB RAM + 256GB ROM), and it comes at a price of RM3499. Considering the prices of most flagship phones these days, it's not too bad. With the Leica filters and excellent photo quality, we would even say it has fantastic value. Of course, that's not to say that there are no alternatives. The Honor Magic 5 has the same price tag for roughly the same specs. But it has a slightly larger screen, a bigger battery, and a 54MP+50MP+32MP triple camera setup. Looks better on paper, but it doesn't have any Leica filters and tuning. There's also the OnePlus 11, which is a bit more affordable at RM3299. It has less RAM but features a 50MP+48MP+32MP triple camera system tuned by Hasselblad, 100W fast charging, and Dual "Reality" Dolby Atmos Speakers. If you want a phone that's more geared for gaming, the iQOO 11 has a 2K display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a large vapour chamber for cooling, and a V2 chip that boosts game performance. The iQOO 11 is also available in Malaysia for RM3499.

Personally, I liked the Xiaomi 13 first and foremost for its design – among the sometimes overly sleek competitors, such a heavy brick with barely smoothed edges looks even a little provocative, as far as it goes in such a standardised field as smartphone design. A high-quality AMOLED display, a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and high-quality cameras create a win-win set of almost perfect flagships. Yes, it falls a little short of the top-end in a couple of aspects, while still priced comparably to its main direct competitors. Although this time the software problem has been solved (hopefully definitively), so I personally don’t see a good reason why not to choose Xiaomi anymore. This flagship might make you take a fresh look at the situation in the top-end market. The Xiaomi 13 is first and foremost a design favourite - among the sometimes overly polished competitors, such a heavy brick with barely smoothed edges looks even a little provocative, as far as it goes in such a standardised domain. A high-quality AMOLED display, a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and high-quality cameras create a win-win package of a near-perfect flagship.

To sum up, it can be said that thirteen was not unlucky at all. Xiaomi 13 turned out to be quite a nice phone - small, powerful, with a decent and well-charging battery, with decent cameras, good speakers, a better display. The question remains - with what good price? Xiaomi 13 price list can be praised for being uncomplicated - the basic model is available in one variant, with 8+256 GB memory, and we will pay EUR 999.99 for it. So... you can say it's OK. It was already cheap, smartphones are getting more expensive at the moment, so if you are looking for a relatively compact flagship devoid of obvious shortcomings, you can consider Xiaomi 13. I certainly do not advise you against buying this phone, although I would suggest that you consider Xiaomi 12 Pro or Xiaomi 12T Pro. They will be cheaper, and it seems to me that they are not that much weaker than this model. Of course, this one is newer, it has a bit more goodies. The question is whether this fairy tale is worth paying extra for. You'll have to consider that yourself.

The Xiaomi 13 is a commendable step up from the Xiaomi 12 before it. With the addition of a much improved design, IP68 certification and a dedicated telephoto camera, it has addressed several of the major issues we had with that (still very good) phone. Its compact yet classy design and bright, vibrant display are an absolute joy to behold, especially for those who aren’t enamoured with the steady supersizing of smartphones. Performance, meanwhile, is every bit as strong as many bigger, uglier Android flagships. While the Xiaomi 13 doesn’t have the top level camera set-up of its Pro brother, it’s still a very capable shooter in most situations. And while battery life isn’t the absolute best, it should still see you through the day without fuss. Speedy wired and wireless charging helps here. Xiaomi’s fussy software does continue to hold it back somewhat, however. If there’s one area the company needs to address with some urgency, it’s this. While they’re at it, Xiaomi would do well to match the checkout options of its key rivals, too. Offering just the one colour and storage option here in the UK is a mistake that Apple and Samsung just wouldn’t make. Even with those caveats in place, the Xiaomi 13 gets tantalisingly close to the holy grail of being a compromise-free compact flagship smartphone. In most of the ways that count, this is a genuine rival to the Samsung Galaxy S23, and a viable alternative to the disappointing iPhone 14.

I lived with the Xiaomi 13 as my primary device for around a week, using it for productivity purposes during my working day and for social media browsing and gaming in the evenings. As a football fan, I’ve grown used to the way FIFA Mobile plays on a few different devices, which helped me to quantify just how impressive the Xiaomi 13’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor is from a power perspective. I also used the phone to stream color-rich documentaries via YouTube and Netflix, and also logged into Twitter to assess the social media browsing experience. I used the recently released Geekbench 6 for CPU testing (the Xiaomi 13 landed a single-core average score of 1999 and a multi-core score of 5126) and Geekbench ML for machine learning and AI benchmarking (the phone earned an average score of 661). It’s also worth noting that I ran benchmarks with the phone in Performance mode, though it uses Balanced mode as standard, out of the box. Battery life was assessed based on real-world usage, and I measured charge time in 15-minute intervals.

The Xiaomi 13 captivated me from the start. And don't let anyone say that it's because of the edgy Apple iPhone design. Never! I am downright surprised at how much I liked the Xiaomi 13 in all aspects and was convinced by its performance. Really, any prior criticism about it has been eliminated. There is now IP68 certification, a sharp AMOLED display from Samsung, which is as flat as the back to the delight most of our audience. Xiaomi offers a telezoom camera again after almost three years, which is just as impressive as the 50 megapixels of Sony's IMX800 main image sensor. No matter if you are taking standard, zoom, wide-angle, portrait, day, or night shots. The photos simply look good all the time. Should the Leica cooperation not be just marketing drivel at the end of the day after all? The Xiaomi 12S Ultra has already convinced you in the blind test. The Xiaomi 13 (Pro) will now be the first Xiaomi smartphone in this country that benefits from its cooperation with the German brand Leica. However, I still have one point of criticism: the 4,500 mAh battery. Its performance is unfortunately only mid-range for such a perfect flagship. Does that hurt? No, because the included 67-watt HyperCharge power supply can pump up the Xiaomi 13 from 0 to 100 percent in less than an hour. Perhaps the almost €1,000 asking price will hurt its potential sales in one way or another. Alternatively, the Samsung Galaxy S23 (review) can be considered at a slightly higher price. If you are undecided between the two smartphones, then wait for our camera comparison test next week, which could possibly help you make your mind between the two.

The Xiaomi 13 battery achieved a very good global score, much better than its predecessor the Xiaomi 12. This was mainly due to decent autonomy, which lasted a good 53 hours and 50 minutes when used moderately. The device showed good performances when streaming videos and when used on-the-go, but the autonomy was quite poor when listening to music. The charging experience was very strong for both wired and wireless chargers. Both charging methods were very fast, with the wired one taking less than 47 minutes, and the wireless 56 minutes to fully charge the battery. Moreover, a quick 5-minute charge provided an autonomy of 5 hours and 28 minutes on average, which was better than our database average. The wired and wireless charge efficiencies were good, but the residual power drain when the device was fully charged and still on the wireless stand was high. Discharge currents were all below average, especially when streaming videos, except when calling and streaming music, meaning that the device is well-optimized. When compared with devices from the Premium segment, the Xiaomi 13 ranks in third place in database. It showed good autonomy (especially on the go, where is achieved a top score for the segment), excellent efficiency and a good charging experience.

With its Leica-infused camera, slick design and standout screen, the Xiaomi 13 is a very good Android phone. There is strong competition from the Samsung Galaxy S23 (£899) and OnePlus 11 (£799) but the Xiaomi 13 offers up a viable alternative. I much prefer the design and general usability of the OnePlus 11, for instance, while it can match most of what the S23 offers at a cheaper price. There are areas Xiaomi could improve on to make this a true standout device. A simple, more focused UI would make a big difference, especially for me.

Reviewing the Xiaomi 13, one of the best compact(ish) phones in 2023 and hot Samsung Galaxy S23 rival. That camera tech isn't as hot at night as the Pro, but the Xiaomi 13 boasts the same excellent performance for gaming and feature-packed MiUI software. It's not as cheap as the OnePlus 11 or Realme GT3 but it's certainly a solid flagship which makes only a few small compromises. I actually found the Xiaomi 13's camera to be better in low light than the Samsung S23, although it's still no Pro. Gamers will love that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, plus the MiUI 14 gaming mode - ideal for Genshin Impact action. Battery life is also good, although the Pro and Galaxy S23 are slightly on top here. That AMOLED screen may lack LTPO smarts, but movie fans should adore the crisp, sharp-contrast visuals. Those Xiaomi 13 stereo speakers pack a punch too, while there's buckets of storage. So that's what I think of the Xiaomi 13 vs the Samsung S23 and Pro after a week of testing. Are you tempted?

The Xiaomi 13’s display performance was overall very good, with a very strong showing in color, which had a pleasant saturation. While the screen was not easily readable in sunlight, the device’s readability proved to be very good in low light because of good brightness levels in such conditions. Our engineers were eager to put the Xiaomi 13’s advertised 1900 nit peak brightness to the test, but the peak brightness level measured 1640 nits. In video, both contrast and colors were well-managed on the device, particularly when watching HDR10 video content. The screen was also prone to frame mismatches when viewing videos. The screen executed some ghost touches when trying to navigate it with a single hand. By default, the Xiaomi 13 has a low flicker frequency, which could make viewing the screen for a long time in low light uncomfortable for some people. However, a flicker-free option is available in the settings, and could improve flicker performance. This was not part of our tests, which covers the default mode.

With a DXOMARK Camera score of 130, the Xiaomi 13 delivered a good performance, thanks to a triple camera configuration that allows for good quality photo and video capture in pretty much all kinds of conditions. While the device wasn’t near the top of our ranking, the Xiaomi 13 camera still performed well within its price segment. In our testing, the Xiaomi 13’s main strengths in photo mode were its ability to deliver a fairly neutral white balance and nice color across a variety of conditions, including low light. Overall exposure was fairly accurate, but in high-contrast scenes, a lack of dynamic range could result in shadow and/or highlight clipping. The camera also managed to maintain a good tradeoff between image detail and noise reduction, but our testers observed some unwanted artifacts, for example, halo effects and ghosting, especially in scenes where HDR processing kicked in. Autofocus was generally accurate but slow. We also noticed that in group shots the camera did not always focus on the subject closest to the camera. The Xiaomi 13 did fairly well for both ultra-wide and tele zoom. Zoom images showed good exposure, but compared to the 13 Pro with its more powerful imaging hardware and larger sensors, detail was generally lower and noise levels were higher. In video mode, our testers found exposure to be accurate and video clips showed good texture rendering in most conditions. In addition, Xiaomi 13 videos were pretty much free of unwanted artifacts. However, we also observed some exposure instabilities, white balance casts, and autofocus instabilities in indoor light conditions and low light. These shortcomings prevented the device from achieving a video score closer to the best in class.

With a DXOMARK Audio score of 134, Xiaomi 13 performed very well in our tests, making the device a great option for audio-focused smartphone users. In playback, it delivered the best results when gaming and watching movies, but it did not disappoint in the music use case either. The built-in speakers offered a rich and pleasant sound signature, but the stereo balance was somewhat off-centered, which also restricted the wideness of the projected sound scene among other impediments. In recording, the Xiaomi 13 provided excellent results across all use cases, offering good tonal balance, dynamics and spatial performance. Although heavy compression was noticeable when recording loud sources such as concerts, it didn’t affect quality too much. Additionally, the recording experience could have been enhanced further with an audio zoom feature and an improved handling of wind noise.

So, in conclusion – the Xiaomi 13 I’ll say is a weird phone overall. There are some things are done very well, some are not. For example, the phone’s design and the shape of it makes it so nice to hold but the camera certainly needs a bit more tweaking to make it better. MIUI 14 to me is a tiny incremental upgrade because they did remove one of the annoying features. The performance is amazing but the battery life is not as good as I’d expect when compared with another small flagship smartphone. But, if you want a small phone, the next competitor is the Samsung Galaxy S23 (review here). It’s smaller than the Xiaomi 13 and has a similar battery life. The S23’s cameras are also fantastic even without collaborations with any camera makers. I’ll update this post when I have the official retail price – so check back later.

While the Galaxy S23 does things better than the Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi’s latest compact flagship does give Samsung’s own offering a good run for its money. We may not be a fan of MIUI 14 and its overall design, but the Xiaomi 13 is definitely competitive with the Galaxy S23 when it comes to camera performance. n Europe, the Xiaomi 13 starts at 999 Euros for the 8GB/256GB variant, which translates to around Php 58k when converted. European pricing is usually higher, so there’s still a chance that the Xiaomi 13 will have a much lower official price in Asian countries like the Philippines.

All things considered, the Xiaomi 13 is everything we expected it to be and more. The design refresh is a welcome change, at least for us. Perhaps Xiaomi wanted to draw a more distinct line between the non-Pro and Pro variants, thus the different design. So we expect the non-Pro and the line variants to look similar and the Pro variant and that leaked Ultra variant to look the same. Hardware-wise, there’s nothing to complain about. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 gave it excellent marks in our benchmark tests. Battery is on the average side but it has all sorts charging tech that makes up for it. The camera, well, you be the judge. We certainly liked it — performs great in most scenarios, including low-light and night shots with tons of features added to give you that Leica feel. All that in Xiaomi’s usual price point that’s not too heavy on the wallet. the Xiaomi 13 will start at €999.

The Xiaomi 13 is a very well-rounded flagship offer. Xiaomi seems to have taken plenty of notes coming from the previous generation Xiaomi 12. The 13 is a very sturdy and well-made device, now with the important addition of IP68 ingress protection. It has a slightly bigger display than its predecessor and one that really impresses both in terms of brightness and color reproduction. It also has superb HDR support for all four major standards. The Xiaomi 13 also has a great stereo speaker setup and gets to enjoy the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Qualcomm's best chip to date has been hugely beneficial to the Xiaomi 13. It delivers excellent, chart-topping all around performance, and amazing efficiency, which has pushed battery life to a whole new level this generation. The camera setup is also much improved, particularly by including a dedicated telephoto snapper. We found the quality to be excellent all-around while testing the Xiaomi 13. All things considered, the Xiaomi 13 is a really compelling, feature-rich package. There is very little compromise to speak of here beyond some nitpicks like the lack of Xiaomi's 120W charging, Gorilla Glass Victus and 8K@30fps video capture. Xiaomi has a great product on its hands. One that we can recommend without any hesitation.

With its Leica-infused camera, slick design and standout screen, the Xiaomi 13 feels like a no-sacrifice Android phone for a very tempting £849 price. There is, of course, strong competition from the Samsung Galaxy S23 (£899) and OnePlus 11 (£729) but if the Xiaomi 13 continues to impress me then there’s every chance this could be one of the best Android phones of the year – especially for those who don’t want a huge phone with heavily curved sides.

Xiaomi’s mainstream hero has never felt further apart from its Pro big brother, and yet still manages to impress in almost all areas. The Xiaomi 13 is a powerful and relatively long-lasting handset with a stunning screen, which can take a great photo from its main camera. The secondary snappers aren’t quite as impressive, though put in a decent enough shift given the price – which is pound and penny in line with the Galaxy S23. Samsung’s software is arguably more mature, but you’re getting a bigger screen and faster charging here. Just as the S23 is eclipsed by the S23 Ultra, the Xiaomi 13 can’t escape its sibling’s shadow. If you take your photography seriously, the 13 Pro is the one to go for – and if your budget won’t stretch that far, a Pixel 7 Pro is still a good shout. But everyone else should think very hard over whether there’s anything to gain by picking the Samsung over one of these. Which given Xiaomi’s UK market share, has to be considered a big win. A capable all-rounder that takes a solid snap with its main camera. It won’t wow you like the more expensive 13 Pro, but should please all but the most demanding phone photographers.

Unboxing the Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro, two 2023 global smartphones boasting dependable camera setups, impressive gaming grunt and solid battery tech. My review of the Xiaomi 13 Pro is coming imminently but here's a tour of the features and what's been upgraded vs the regular model. Like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, that premium version offers a curvy design, improved camera hardware and several other updates. The Xiaomi 13 Pro serves up the same Sony IMX989 sensor as Vivo's X90 Pro, for some of the best night shots of any 2023 smartphone. In comparison, the Xiaomi 13 phone offers an IMX800 camera sensor that's still impressive in low light, but not quite as incredible. Both Xiaomi phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, so gaming on Genshin Impact and other demanding Android titles is a smooth, satisfying experience. The Xiaomi 13 Pro doesn't heat up as much as the regular model, but neither struggled even after an hour or more of gaming. Battery life is also excellent on both phones, although that Pro once again has the advantage of faster 120W vs 67W charging. So are you tempted more by the Xiaomi 13 or the 13 Pro? Let us know below, reviews coming soon!

If you prefer a more compact phone, but don't want to sacrifice performance or features, then the Xiaomi 13 is one of the best options available today. There are smaller phones, sure, but they can't match the horsepower on offer here, and few can match the photographic chops, either. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the Xiaomi 13, the only thing we aren't so keen on is MIUI 14. It's not a bad OS, it's just very different to what we're used to, and some of the design choices are puzzling. It's nothing that can't be overcome with a little learning and tweaking, though. If you can do without the professional camera setup offered by its larger sibling, we think you'll be delighted with this petite performer.

On the hardware front, the Xiaomi 13 is pretty solid. It’s extremely well built, and more durable than the previous generation. The main camera produces clear, crisp shots, even in darker conditions, and we can’t ignore its impressive performance. However, the price jump from the previous generation puts it head-to-head with some of the leading smartphones of this past year, and sadly it doesn’t quite measure up to the iPhone 14 or the Google Pixel 7 Pro, especially with the bloated and confusing MIUI software. If you’re dead set on buying a Xiaomi, then the 13 Pro offers a more impressive camera and better specs. Otherwise, there are better alternatives on the market for this price.

At first glance, the Xiaomi 13 looks to have improved upon its predecessor in several areas. The phone’s straight-edged design is sleek, its display is exceptionally bright and the Snapdragon chipset means the Xiaomi 13 more than keeps pace with premium rivals. The Leica-branded camera setup looks exciting, though it may not be the groundbreaking innovation we’d hoped for.

So, is the Xiaomi 13 an everyday flagship that makes the Samsung Galaxy S23 sweat? Absolutely. It’s neck and neck between the two, and it comes down to personal taste. Because on technical and aesthetic terms, this is a banger: the screen is gorgeous, it’s wicked fast, looks great, charges quickly (and wirelessly), and has a nice camera system, too. Not to say it's perfect — MIUI is still a little busy with bloatware and I would have liked to see a slightly better battery life. But for most users, these issues can be overlooked in what is a fantastic Android flagship, and (being honest) the one you should buy between this and the Xiaomi 13 Pro. Yeah, I said it!

Xiaomi 13 has everything you would expect from a power-packed phone in a compact design. It has a beautiful and smooth OLED display for everyday use and a flagship chipset to power the phone. You won’t have any issues in the performance department, it can handle anything you throw at it. The main camera takes good photos in different lighting conditions and the lightweight design makes sure that you don’t feel like carrying anything bulky in hand. I wish the battery backup was a bit more but considering the size of the phone, it’s pretty good. The 67W fast charging is awesome and chargers the phone quickly. All in all, the Xiaomi 13 shines in every aspect and is a perfectly balanced phone for Android enthusiasts.

In general, Mi 13, a medium-sized model, introduces many configurations that are only available in super-large cups. It has a compact body, smooth feel, and Samsung E6’s high-quality direct screen, creating a unique experience in terms of feel and appearance. Different small-screen flagships; the second-degree cooperation with Leica and the installation of a telephoto lens have qualitatively improved the imaging quality and image experience, Gameplay, charging safety, multi-scenario fast charging, etc. providing high-quality experience and guarantee in all aspects.

The Xiaomi 13 smartphone is a great update from the Xiaomi 12 phone, as it offers an improved camera setup and enhanced processing power support. Both of them put this phone far ahead of the competition, and it becomes one of the best smartphones that you should consider purchasing right now. But at the same time, if you are not planning to purchase a phone, we would suggest you wait for a few months to check out other alternative options. But for now, there’s hardly any phone that can give tough competition to this lineup. If you’re in search of a gaming-centric phone, you should go with the Asus ROG Phone 6 is a fabulous pick. But on the other hand, a perfect alternative would be the Realme GT2 Explorer Master since it brings almost the same attributes.

Qualcomm Adreno 740:
