Ambitieux.

Sony Xperia X Review – a comfortable phone for everyone
Source: Tech Nave Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
To many, a smartphone is their gateway to the world-wide web, and the Sony Xperia X is a good window to that world if a user invests in getting a unit for themselves. It has its ups and downs, but overall it is a good phone to recommend to anyone particularly if you're a fan of Sony Xperia phones and those with dedicated camera shutter buttons.

Sony would like to position the Xperia X as a mid-range phone albeit with some serious premium credentials. They’ve largely succeeded. The work done with the camera is commendable and will only get better as the predictive hybrid autofocus advances. Actually it shares most of the features with the premium Xperia Z series but with a more pocket-friendly price tag.

Does X Mark the Spot?
Source: Unbox Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Overall, the Xperia X is a great device and we had a good time taking it around as our daily driver. It handled day-to-day tasks we threw at it easily, it’s main and secondary camera perform well, and — despite the size — has pretty decent battery life. But, it’s really the price that has us wincing a little. The Sony Xperia X is priced at Php 29,990 and we can already feel your inner keyboard warrior’s spirit rising up to leave a comment.

Redefines what a high-end smartphone should be
Source: Laptop Media Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Some might reproach Sony for choosing Snapdragon 650 mobile CPU instead of the top-notch Snapdragon 820, for example. However, the mobile chip in Xperia X not only did well in terms of performance but also kept reasonable exterior temperatures after our stress test. What’s more, this CPU seems to be gentle on the battery because its seemingly small capacity of 2630 mAh displayed decent durability. Also, the 23MP camera does not have 4K video recording but it offers many manual settings and fascinating modes.

A lot of weird decisions have been made since the Xperia X was announced. First of all the marketing has been poor with many, including us, were led to believe that the Xperia X range was to be released alongside the Xperia Z range. The spec sheet we thought corroborated this thought as none of the Xperia X devices use Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, the Snapdragon 820 at the time.

This is a real shame, as the rest of the phone holds up well to its closest competitors. However, if the camera wasn't enough to hold the Xperia X back, its price definitely is, as it currently costs £460 SIM-free or around £32-per-month on contract. This puts it in direct competition with the LG G5, which not only has a vastly superior camera – arguably the best out of all of this year's flagship smarpthones – but it also has an equally gorgeous-looking screen and bundles of speed. Sony, what are you doing? Though the $700 Xperia X Performance features a flagship-level processor and runs well as a result, Sony apparently didn't feel the need to bring anything new to the table. Additionally the X is underminded by the more exciting edge-to-edge display of Sony's own Xperia XA, lacks the waterproofing of the Xperia Z5, while many of its features are average compared to the advancing and competitive world of mid-range handsets. So while the Xperia X doesn't really do much wrong and is a potentially solid choice, it's the surrounding competition and lack of cohesion in the range that stop it being top pick.

With its more elegant body, better camera, faster chipset, and record LTE band support, the iPhone 6s seems destined to remain the popular choice compared to the Xperia X. Moreover, Sony priced its midranger just a hundred lower than the iPhone 6s, which wouldn't help its cause at all.

The X is a tricky phone to pin down. Sony’s mission here is to trim the fat, walking away from some of the more outlandish hardware specs and feature creeping our phones are experiencing. Instead we see Sony engineers trying to scale back and refine specifically those hardware elements which they believe truly affect consumer use.

The Sony Xperia X is a capable midrange phone with a good camera, but that shouldn't add up to a $550 price tag. It lacks waterproofing, which has distinguished the Xperia line for so long. And it can't compete with higher-end phones like the HTC 10 or the Galaxy S7 in terms of display quality, camera, or performance. Ultimately, you're better off saving $150 and picking up the OnePlus 3, which gets you a faster processor and much longer battery life. The Blu Life One X$149.99 at Amazon, meanwhile, isn't quite as powerful, but offers terrific value for the price.

Sony's new flagship Xperia X Dual gives us mixed feelings. It's a beautiful device that's built well, has a good screen and sports a feature-filled camera that takes good pictures in most conditions. Unfortunately, there are serious flaws as well, with heating issues that cause crashes, lags and app shutdowns, as well as a fingerprint sensor that often falters. Sony Xperia X vs Sony Xperia Z5
Source: Phone Arena Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Available for order at $549.99, the Xperia X is a smartphone that doesn't disappoint, but feels a bit too expensive for what it offers. And thanks to its seniority, the Xperia Z5 is dangerously close in terms of pricing—nowadays you can score one for as little as $600. Taking these prices in mind, we're unable to recommend the Xperia X over the Z5. We like the way it feels in our hand better, sure, and its display is truly summer-proof, but in terms of camera and game performance, it's just not quite up there. The Z5 also comes with a great perk: water protection. A saving grace is the X's better battery life, but we didn't find that to be large enough of a lead to warrant a reconsideration on our part.

Sony Xperia X vs Samsung Galaxy S7
Source: Phone Arena Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
The Xperia X feels a bit pricey, especially in this fiercely competitive market. Its display might look good to lay-men, but upon closer inspection, you’d notice that it's a bit bluish and colors are not well-balanced; its Snapdragon 650 is a noticeable step below the Snapdragon 820, which will be noticed for those who edit pictures, browse the web a lot, and play games on their phones. And then, the image quality and camera experience is a bit below expectations. It also lacks catchy new features that the Galaxy S7 has aplenty in the form of Motion Photo, Always-on Display, Game Center, and so on.

At the end of each review period it’s telling to examine my own emotions in terms of returning a handset to the relevant press office. With the HTC 10 I had to have the device prised from my enthusiastic hands, while I couldn’t wait to throw the sharp-edged, poorly-finished LG G5 back in the box and get it out of the house. The Sony Xperia X elicits… no emotion at all. If it stayed here then it would be in a drawer – it’s a premium-priced Android mid-ranger with no unique selling point whatsoever other than the Sony brand.

An edge in a world of round, the Sony Xperia X is a familiarly, but still rather uniquely, designed smartphone that we can't help but feel attracted to. It doesn't look or feel mellow at all, but it isn't overly imposing as are the likes of the HTC 10. It's balanced, really, and comes across as approachable. So far the Xperia X feels like a mixed bag, but surprisingly enough, it's the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 that makes the phone feel so premium. It's a hexa-core chipset in the vein of the classic Snapdragon 808, albeit with two cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and four clocked at 1.4GHz.

There is a new Sony hitting the shelves today, it is the much awaited Xperia X that was announced at MWC 16. This is slightly scaled down version of what went before in the form of the Xperia Z5 range. We had a very brief hands-on with some early prototypes of the devices when we were in Barcelona and since then we have seen an insight into what was to come in the form of the Xperia Z5 Software update to Marshmallow.

The Sony Xperia X is an odd fish. In its own right, it’s a very good smartphone, with lovely design, decent battery life and performance, a great screen and (in some circumstances) an impressive set of cameras. Yet, given its specifications, it’s entirely the wrong price. The Nexus 5X, although not quite the looker the Sony Xperia X is, starts at £160 less and has similar levels of performance. The OnePlus 2’s camera isn’t as good as the Sony’s, but it has a superior specification, double the storage and costs £210 less.

Want the latest and greatest that phones have to offer? Or a startling smartphone bargain? You won’t get either of those with the Sony Xperia X. It’s a sign the company has lost some of its confidence and realised that fighting with Samsung and Apple at their own game isn’t working any more. We can’t really blame it. The Xperia X is a curious endeavor from Sony, a flagship phone that willingly skimps here and there in order to undercut rival handsets. The Sony Xperia X is a high-quality phone and if this is where the story ended, all would have been fine. But no, Sony decided to overhaul its well-known flagship lineup, mid- and low-end too, and replace them all with the X-series. The Xperia X Performance is clearly eyeing the Z5's spot at the top. The Xperia resolves a bit more detail on a pixel level, which is clearly visible in the thinnest of twigs, and tiniest of leaves on the row of images below. Then again, noise is abundant even in brightly lit areas - likely left there deliberately, so noise reduction wouldn't do away with detail. The noise pattern is not that nice to look at (same as on the Xperia Z5), but you would probably never attempt to pixel peep on your photos from so close in real life.

Qualcomm Adreno 510:
