Bonnes performances, bel écran, partie logicielle soignée et construction irréprochable : le Galaxy Z Fold 6 de Samsung est une jolie réussite à un détail près. Il est quasiment identique au Z Fold 5, qui reprenait l’essentiel du Z Fold 4… Certes, les SoC sont de plus en plus puissants et l’IA de plus en plus pertinente. Mais côté matériel, rien ne change vraiment, si ce n’est la luminosité des écrans, forts bons au demeurant, mais dont la pliure est toujours visible. Les spécifications techniques des caméras ne bougent pas d’un iota, tout comme l’effroyable lenteur de la charge « rapide ». Celle-ci est à n’en pas douter un des points que le constructeur devra améliorer, la concurrence le battant à plate couture depuis des années.

Certes, ton Z Fold6 reste plus élégant qu’eux. Mais l’élégance n’est pas le seul critère de choix. Ils sont aussi plus endurants, se rechargent plus vite, proposent une bonne expérience photo, sont aussi d’excellents compagnon de travail et de divertissement. Chez eux, la pliure a même complètement disparu. Et en prime, ils coûtent moins cher. Je suis désolé Samsung, je t’aime beaucoup pour de nombreuses raisons. J’aime aussi la plupart de tes produits. Mais l’amour s’entretient. Et j’ai l’impression que tu l’as un peu oublié avec ce Galaxy Z Fold6. Heureusement, il n’est jamais trop tard pour se réveiller, tant que la flamme brûle encore…

Avec le Z Fold 5, nous étions restés sur une évolution très timide d’une recette relativement bien connue. La dernière version du grand pliant de Samsung va un cran plus loin en modifiant à la fois le design et le format des écrans, même s’il ne s’agit que de quelques millimètres. Si on ajoute l’apport de Galaxy AI et des mises à jour pendant sept ans, la recette semble idéale. Mais est-ce vraiment suffisant ? Malheureusement non. Pour quelqu’un qui aurait été bloqué en 2019 et qui découvrirait le Fold dans sa sixième version, les progrès sont tonitruants. Sauf qu’à y regarder de plus près, les évolutions les plus probantes existent depuis le Z Fold 3. Concrètement, ces trois dernières années, le Fold n’a changé qu’à la marge et son prix ne s’est pas contracté pour autant.

Qu'il est difficile de noter ce Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, mais comme il faut bien se plier à l'exercice, nous sommes partis sur un 7/10 pour signaler la qualité indéniable du smartphone tout en mettant en exergue notre difficulté à le recommander les yeux fermés. Les finitions du smartphone, la réduction de son encombrement, ses écrans soignés, sa partie logicielle bien travaillée, sa bonne qualité photo et ses performances musclées en font un joli produit qui ravira les personnes en quête d'un smartphone pliant au format Fold. Sauf qu'à 2000 euros, ces qualités sont finalement des prérequis, surtout au bout de la 6e génération. Or, l'argument choc du Galaxy Z Fold 6 réside en grande partie dans les nouvelles fonctions d'intelligence artificielle. Des options d'IA qui seront déployées prochainement sur les S24 et sur le Fold 5.

Est-ce que je vous conseille d'acheter le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 à partir de 1999 euros? Non. J'adore le concept du Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. C'est un smartphone génial pour consommer du contenu. J'adore l'utiliser pour le travail, prendre des notes, faire du multitâche. Samsung est très fort pour ça. Mais je n'ai pas envie de récompenser Samsung pour s'être tourné les pouces depuis trois ans parce que personne n'est fichu de le concurrencer. La partie photo n'a pas évolué en deux ans. Les performances sont toujours en deçà des autres smartphones haut de gamme, moins chers. Idem pour la vitesse de recharge. Et même le design n'a franchement pas asez évolué selon moi. J'ai envie de m'arracher les cheveux quand je vois certains tests consacrer trois paragraphes sur le fait que le Z Fold 6 est plus léger de 14 grammes. On en est là?

Encore un peu plus cette année, le Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 représente sans doute la version ultime de ce que peux proposer Samsung dans ce format, à savoir une tablette en mode portrait qui peut se transformer en un smartphone tout en longueur. On ne sait pas trop ce que peut proposer de plus Samsung dans ce format. En 6 générations, Samsung est resté fidèle à son approche et ne propose pas, comme ses concurrents, un smartphone à la taille classique qui se déplie en une tablette en mode paysage. Peut-être que l’année prochaine, Samsung choisira une nouvelle façon de voir les choses, mais en attendant, on ne s’est jamais senti à l’étroit sur le Galaxy Z Fold6 au quotidien. Mais du coup, si les années précédentes étaient synonymes d’un certain monopole, c’est en train de changer !

Battery life is another area where the Samsung Z Fold 6 doesn't hold up to rivals, and recharging is sadly slow as well.

Open or closed, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is very good indeed. The new dimensions make it completely usable with almost no caveats when the phone is closed, and with the screen open, its iPad mini-like size means I reach for my tablet or laptop less. It’s a dual-use smartphone that, depending on your own personal requirements, could truly be your one-and-only mobile device. The problem is the same can almost be said for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. We’re still at the point where no foldable is dull, but it is a minimal update compared to the last, which was itself a minimal update, despite the hardware alterations once again making it a better phone to use and own. It’s also still really expensive, even more so this year, and the slow charging, shortish battery life, and strong-but-not-the-best spec make it even harder to justify that amount of money.

Don’t get me wrong. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is an amazing gadget. The Fold has won a faithful following — and rightfully so. Multitasking on the big screen is effortless, build quality is as good as foldables get, and the battery reliably lasts a day or more. Heck, you can plug the whole dang thing into a display and use it like a computer. Samsung pioneered the foldable phone, but now it’s stubbornly iterating on that original concept — and it feels like the time for iteration is over. The company seems committed to its current long and narrow template rather than adopting a wider format. Personally, I think the OnePlus Open is the ideal foldable design, and it’s about halfway between the tall and skinny Z Fold 6 and the wide and short Google Pixel Fold.

I love using it for work, taking notes, and multi-tasking as Samsung excels in those departments. However, I don't want to reward Samsung for twiddling its thumbs for the last three years, simply because no one else can compete with it. The camera department hasn't evolved in two years. Performance still lags behind other, less expensive high-end smartphones. The same goes for the charging speed. As for the design, frankly, it hasn't evolved enough in my opinion. I tear my hair out when I see some reviews devote three paragraphs to the fact that the Z Fold 6 is 14 grams lighter. Isn't that insane? Yes, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the best foldable smartphone on the market, there is no question about it.

There are a couple of things I'm going to save for the full review, such as the camera along with diving deeper into performance and battery life. With performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy performs just as well as you'd suspect. The Fold 6 is fast and snappy, as I have yet to run into any game-breaking slow-downs, save for when I'm trying to emulate Switch games. But again, more on that in the full review. Although I talked about a lot here, there's still so much more that I want to cover, such as Samsung DeX, the cameras, and gaming. Even still, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has managed to surprise and impress, despite me having basically written it off before Samsung announced it. I don't know what else I'll find in my testing, but be sure to reach out if there's something specific you would like to see covered.

The Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 share the same processor, specs and even the camera systems are so similar (with the exception of the zoom camera that you only get on the Fold). So the fundamental Samsung experience is definitely similar. The main difference have everything to do with the form factor. The big, book-style Galaxy Fold 6 is great for productivity and multitasking, as you can have three windows open and a floating window, plus it's easier to add AI on top of that. The Flip 6, on the other hand, has evolved but because of its smaller size, it is not so much about productivity as it is about delivering a fast experience in a flip form factor, and we know that it's especially loved amongst the ladies too.

Coming to the Flip 6, the clamshell-style foldable from Samsung gets some major bumps this year. Starting with the main camera, the Flip 6 gets a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a larger 4,000mAh battery compared to 3,700mAh on the Flip 5. Both the new foldable get IP48 water resistance. The crease on the Flip 6 is almost invisible, as, during hands-on time with the device, we scrolled through the device and could barely notice the crease. The display seems decent, and the upgraded camera is excellent for the Flip 6.

The refinement of the design and generally tighter build are both positives but I remain unconvinced that they warrant the extra £50 – on top of what was already an exorbitant price tag. I know that it sounds like I’ve already written the Galaxy Z Fold 6 off but we’ll reserve final judgement for the full review. Display testing, performance benchmarks, camera samples and battery life results may well end up being so impressive that they claw back a positive review. After this first hands-on, however, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 feels like Samsung is asking too much and delivering too little.

It's a good deal more expensive than the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and we'll concede now that nearly £2000 is a lot to spend on a smartphone – even one that can do all of the fancy things of which the Fold is capable. If it can deliver on its many promises, though, the signs are good. At face value, even with all the upgrades, I can’t say whether the Z Fold 6 is worth the price increase, but I’m interested in finding out. The Z Flip 6 also increased to $1,462.99 from $1,299. Again, I can’t say if this price increase is worth it without putting the handset through its paces, but considering it mostly received quality-of-life updates, I doubt it. I love foldable smartphones, so I will spend a lot of time with both handsets, especially the Z Fold 6. I’m curious to see whether the wider screen is enough to make it stand out against the OnePlus Open. I would also like to see if the Z Flip 6 can compete against the Moto Razr+.

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm affirme qu'il est 25 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 7340 dans le Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 et les premiers benchmarks montrent que le GPU peut battre l'iGPU Apple A17 Pro.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy: Le cryo-CPU est basé sur l'architecture ARM v9.2 et se compose de trois clusters : Le premier comprend un noyau principal rapide(ARM Cortex-X4) pouvant atteindre 3,39 GHz. Le deuxième est composé de trois cœurs de puissance pouvant atteindre 3,2 GHz et de deux cœurs supplémentaires cadencés à 3,0 GHz (tous Cortex-A720). Le cluster d'efficacité se compose de deux cœurs d'économie d'énergie(Cortex-A520) qui fonctionnent jusqu'à 2,3 GHz. Le SoC utilise le processeur intégré Adreno 750 pour l'accélération graphique. la 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70. Par rapport à la SD8 Gen3 normale, la variante "for Galaxy" offre un noyau principal cadencé à 90 MHz de plus et un GPU plus cadencé.
