Samsung s’endort-il sur ses lauriers ? C’est ce que l’on pourrait penser au regard du peu de changements techniques sur cette nouvelle génération de Galaxy Z Flip. Certes la puissance progresse un peu, mais l’essentiel se concentre sur le design encore affiné. On pourrait bien entendu évoquer l’excellente section logicielle boostée par l’IA, mais le Flip 5 en bénéficie également par le biais de mises à jour. Plus que jamais, le Moto RAZR 50 Ultra se pose comme un sérieux concurrent objectif, mais il lui sera difficile de lutter contre l’aura du Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 qui demeure malgré les limites perçues tout au long de notre prise en main un excellent smartphone.

La nouvelle version du smartphone pliant de Samsung ne révolutionne pas la formule, mais en améliore tous les aspects. Avec son écran en façade généreux et sa dalle interne de 6,7″, le Flip 6 offre une expérience de visionnage fort agréable grâce à un contraste prononcé et des couleurs vives. Ses performances ne sont pas en reste, avec sa puce Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 de très haut vol. En photo, le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 est assez polyvalent, même si l’absence d’un véritable téléobjectif se fait ressentir sur les longues focales. Reste cette autonomie, toujours perfectible, mais qui suffira pour tenir une bonne journée sans avoir à croiser un chargeur.

Le Galaxy Z Flip 6 n'est pas un smartphone comme un autre. Il faut avoir en tête où l'on met les pieds. S'il est vendu à un tarif premium, il ne propose pas toutes les capacités d'une smartphone haut de gamme. Si son autonomie est en hausse, elle est plus faible qu'un S24 et son module photo ne contient que deux capteurs. Des limitations voulues par le format pliable et que l'on ne répercute pas sur la note finale de ce test. Par rapport au Z Flip 5, on gagne un capteur principal plus imposant, une meilleure batterie et un design retravaillé sur le modèle des S24. Est-ce une suffisant pour passer le pas ? Oui et non. Disons que ce n'est pas un « game changer ». Une évolution douce avec quelques nouveautés bien senties. Si on avait eu un écran externe de 4 pouces comme sur le Motorola Razr 50 Ultra et un téléobjectif en plus, notre avis eût été différent.

Pour beaucoup, le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 n’est finalement qu’une itération de ce qu’était le Z Flip5 et ils sont loin d’avoir tort. Il est vrai que si le design change légèrement pour être un peu plus d’actualité mais dans la réalité, le tout ne change pas vraiment par rapport à l’année dernière. L’écran externe est le même en terme de taille et de fonctionnalités. En parlant de ces dernières, Samsung n’a pas apporté de changement radical, du moins pas assez pour marquer une différence. Performant et plus autonome en revanche, le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 perpétue la vision que porte Samsung sur son smartphone pliant à clapet. Le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 est le smartphone pliant pour le grand-public. L’écran externe, même s’il n’est pas le plus grand sur le marché, permet une expérience au quotidien toujours agréable et ce, sans avoir à ouvrir son smartphone.

Surtout, Samsung continue de proposer son Z Flip6 à 1 200 euros. Le prix ne baisse donc quasiment pas par rapport aux premières itérations, ni par rapport au Z Flip5, alors que le constructeur réalise des économies d’échelle sur de nombreux composants recyclés. Par ailleurs, les volumes de vente ont bien augmenté ce qui devrait mécaniquement faire baisser les tarifs. Hélas ce n’est pas le cas. De ce fait, le Galaxy Z Flip6 a beau nous séduire sur bien des aspects, il reste selon nous trop cher. Comme souvent, nous conseillons donc d’attendre que le prix baisse un peu et que Samsung bombarde les distributeurs de promotions.

Le Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 est la version la plus aboutie de la formule du pliant à clapet de Samsung. Il s'agit du Z Flip doté de la meilleure puce, du meilleur duo de modules photo, de la meilleure batterie, avec les dernières fonctionnalités Galaxy AI... Bref, c'est un excellent smartphone à clapet pour quiconque est client-e du genre. Mais le peu d'innovations marquantes d'une génération sur l'autre crée immanquablement un effet d'autoconcurrence. À l'heure où ces lignes sont écrites, le Z Flip 5, précédent modèle, se négocie presque 400 euros moins chers et semble être, sur le papier, un choix plus raisonnable. Une fois posée cette comparaison, le Z Flip 6 conserve tout de même tous les acquis de la gamme : de nombreux usages bien pensés comme le mode Flex, ainsi qu'une excellente intégration de l'écran externe.

Si le Galaxy Z Flip 6 n'est pas une révolution par rapport à son prédécesseur, il offre de nombreuses améliorations bienvenues. L'une des plus marquantes au niveau matériel est le changement du module principal de l'appareil photo. Celui-ci permet enfin de créer des images largement au-dessus de la moyenne, y compris en utilisant le zoom 2x « qualité optique », plutôt bon compte tenu de son origine numérique. On apprécie aussi l'évolution subtile, mais bien réelle du design, la finition mate et plus anguleuse se révélant très réussie. Les deux écrans font aussi partie des points forts, et l'on apprécie que Samsung ait progressé dans l'atténuation de la pliure de l'écran, presque imperceptible visuellement et au toucher. Côté puissance de calcul, le SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 dispose de tout ce qu'il faut.

Le Galaxy Z Flip 6 n'est toujours pas bon marché, même dans sa sixième génération. Cependant, les appareils Samsung ont tendance à bénéficier d'une forte réduction quelques mois après leur sortie. De plus, de nombreux opérateurs proposeront ce smartphone pliable à clapet dans une offre groupée avec des forfaits très accessibles, et beaucoup d'entre vous l'obtiendront probablement de cette façon. Quant à mes premières impressions sur le Galaxy Z Flip 6, elles sont toujours aussi bonnes! Cependant, seul un test plus approfondi le confirmera.

My only issue is there is still duplication of some apps when I would like to see Samsung just adopting Google’s apps or at least have the ability to fully remove their apps such as calendar, calculator etc where possible, alongside Bixby who is just terrible to use and take part in and I am hoping Samsung will eventually remove Bixby in the near future. Honestly, I am still slightly concerned over the longevity of flip or foldable devices, especially given the cost of living and devices being held on to longer by customers beyond the usual 12-24 months we would normally see.

Samsung is clearly playing it safe with the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is more evident by Motorola's Razr Plus 2024 launch a week prior, offering upgraded specs, a larger cover screen with a refined experience, and a cheaper price tag. That's not to say this is a bad phone because it's not. I would normally have no problem recommending this phone because it's quite a fine phone, but with a $100 price bump, I'm not sure I can recommend this over last year's just-as-fine Galaxy Z Flip 5. Samsung is essentially falling into the same trap as Google, where it's hard to justify spending much more than previous models when those phones are just as good and will likely receive a handful of the newer features anyway. If you can find some deals and you're rocking the older Galaxy Z Flip 4, then I'd say go ahead and buy the Galaxy Z Flip 6. But even then, I would almost recommend the Razr Plus 2024 instead, which has already had some intriguing deals since it's gone on sale.

Samsung’s latest clamshell foldable is definitely a good phone, and I absolutely appreciate the various improvements which it offers. However, to be completely blunt, it honestly feels like a slight update instead of a full-blown sequel. A Galaxy Z Flip 5.5, if you will. In other words, the Galaxy Z Flip6 is what I had hoped its predecessor would’ve been. This is especially given the fact that other brands, with OPPO being the prime example, have already included aspects such as higher resolution sensors and better battery life on their devices generations earlier. As mentioned in the beginning of my review, it appears that Samsung has been playing safe with each iteration by only introducing improvements bit by bit.

So, all in all, has the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 convinced me to get an Android-powered foldable? Well, yes, at least for the most part. I love how the phone’s flexibility helps make it a more convenient device to use, and overall the amount of freedom Android grants me over my phone over an iPhone does, which usually prefers to dictate how a phone should be used. However, due to its starting price of RM 4,999, a RM 500 hike from before, I would rather save some cash and go for the Galaxy S24 or S24+ which cost RM 100 and RM 900 less than the Z Flip 6 respectively. In fact, the iPhone 15 can also be had for RM 100 cheaper than the Z Flip 6.

As I noted at the start of this review, if you see a foldable phone on the street, it’s likely a Galaxy Z Flip. I do find it difficult to tell the difference between each model, though, as Samsung's iteration has been slow on this series. I’m also not sure that it will continue to be the default foldable option in the years to come if Samsung refuses to make any big changes to its design in the next few years. This is by far the best Galaxy Z Flip phone the company has released with this year’s tweaks failing to set headlines alight, but the changes are helpful in your everyday phone. That said, if you own a Galaxy Z Flip 4 or 5, you’re going to feel disappointed by these changes, and you may look toward the Motorola Razr+ (2024) with some jealousy.

Samsung is clearly playing it safe with the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is more evident by Motorola's Razr Plus 2024 launch a week prior, offering upgraded specs, a larger cover screen with a refined experience, and a cheaper price tag. That's not to say this is a bad phone because it's not. I would normally have no problem recommending this phone because it's quite a fine phone, but with a $100 price bump, I'm not sure I can recommend this over last year's just-as-fine Galaxy Z Flip 5. If you can find some deals and you're rocking the older Galaxy Z Flip 4, then I'd say go ahead and buy the Galaxy Z Flip 6. But even then, I would almost recommend the Razr Plus 2024 instead, which has already had some intriguing deals ahead of its official sale date. For now, I'll continue testing the phone to see if Samsung can change my mind. Be sure to check back for an updated review with my full thoughts on the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

In the end, I’ve come away from my time with the Z Flip 6 without the same feeling of enjoyment and excitement as I did with some of the older models. That’s perhaps a good thing though, because instead of introducing new, whimsical or cool features, this time Samsung focused on practical improvements. The durability feels better this time, the powerful processor isn’t as hamstrung by the lack of effective cooling, and even battery life from the relatively low capacity is pretty solid. The camera doesn’t feel like much of a weak point anymore either. Even the display seems better in brighter conditions. In short, it’s a case of the usual compromises that come with folding flip phones being minimised to the point where this is actually a solid all-round phone.

You've got a 4000mAh cell, but I struggle to even get five hours of screen on time from a full charge. And when it's wiped, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 doesn't exactly charge fast either. Still, besides that and the borky cover screen, there's a lot to like here. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance is excellent, good enough for gaming on anything out there. You've also got a respectable camera setup which can shoot great looking video, plus the Samsung Z Flip 6 is packed with useful AI tools.

We won’t know for sure until we’ve completed our testing but the battle between the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra looks to be one of the closest yet. The Galaxy will likely offer faster performance and potentially better battery life, has an added level of dust resistance and will get day-one AI features, whereas Moto AI has yet to materialise. On the other hand, the Razr has a larger, higher quality external display and adds a 2x optical telephoto camera, which for my money is a big upgrade over the middling ultrawide cameras used by both the Razr 40 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 5. On top of that, it retails for a little less, starting from just £959.

However, I can’t overlook that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 now commands a higher $1,099 cost. That’s tough to swallow, more so when Motorola ended keeping the Razr Plus at $999. All told, Samsung's new flip phone really needs to hit it out of the park to convince people they should choose the Galaxy Z Flip 6. We'll find out how well it pulls that off after more testing.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 doesn’t change much on the design front, but there are some important changes elsewhere that make this a smart choice for those after a clamshell foldable. The addition of the vapour chamber should alleviate any heat issues, while the upgraded RAM and battery size will hopefully keep the phone running well for longer. Seven years of software updates is always welcome too. There’s some tough competition in the space now, notably from Motorola with its huge outer-display-toting Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra. Samsung has the skills to make the clamshell foldable to beat, and there’s every chance it has done that here.

Again, I can’t say if this price increase is worth it without putting the handset through its paces, but considering it mostly received quality-of-life updates, I doubt it. I love foldable smartphones, so I will spend a lot of time with both handsets, especially the Z Fold 6. I’m curious to see whether the wider screen is enough to make it stand out against the OnePlus Open. I would also like to see if the Z Flip 6 can compete against the Moto Razr+.

Qualcomm Adreno 750:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm affirme qu'il est 25 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 7340 dans le Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 et les premiers benchmarks montrent que le GPU peut battre l'iGPU Apple A17 Pro.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy: Le cryo-CPU est basé sur l'architecture ARM v9.2 et se compose de trois clusters : Le premier comprend un noyau principal rapide(ARM Cortex-X4) pouvant atteindre 3,39 GHz. Le deuxième est composé de trois cœurs de puissance pouvant atteindre 3,2 GHz et de deux cœurs supplémentaires cadencés à 3,0 GHz (tous Cortex-A720). Le cluster d'efficacité se compose de deux cœurs d'économie d'énergie(Cortex-A520) qui fonctionnent jusqu'à 2,3 GHz. Le SoC utilise le processeur intégré Adreno 750 pour l'accélération graphique. la 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70. Par rapport à la SD8 Gen3 normale, la variante "for Galaxy" offre un noyau principal cadencé à 90 MHz de plus et un GPU plus cadencé.
