The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus are two of the highest-quality Android tablets you can buy. There’s no question that these slates are appealing as far as the hardware is concerned. With excellent craftsmanship, the metal chassis and stunning displays are something to lust over. Performance is best-in-class, and battery life is absolutely stellar. The cameras leave a bit to be desired, but that’s par for the course on a tablet. Samsung’s own apps look and function great on the Tab S7 and S7 Plus, but the majority of Android apps fall a bit on their face.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 is an Android tablet that iPad users can feel at home with. My first thought when picking it up was: "It's an iPad Pro, but for Android." It's not hard to see why. During the course of working on this Galaxy Tab S7 review, the similarities stood out, as its machined aluminum chassis, beautiful screen and sweet-sounding speakers make it a serious challenger to the best iPad. But the Tab S7 doesn't just stand in Apple's shadow. Its battery life beats the iPad Pro's, and that's just one of the reasons why the Galaxy Tab S7 is one of the best Android tablets around, and one of the best tablets overall, its awkward keyboard cover and not-great performance puts a ceiling on how high it can go. If you're looking for the latest in the Samsung tablet world, check out our guide for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S8. For now, read on to see how Samsung's catching up with Apple — including where the iPad Air 2020 bets the Tab S7, and where Samsung has Apple's number.

Samsung's been trying to make the Galaxy Tab S-series slates a big deal for a while, and if its recent Tab S6 Lite was the company's first true home run, the Tab S7 is another homer with a couple of runners on base. From its excellent bright and sharp screen to its top-tier design, this is a tablet that Apple fans may call an iPad Pro clone, but it's one that Android users need to consider. If only the Tab S7's keyboard wasn't so awkward, and its Snapdragon 865+ could keep up with the big guns that Intel and Apple have trotted out, this could be the best tablet around. Those looking for speed and tablet-optimized apps should consider the Surface Pro 7, but the Core i5 model we tested costs $460 more at $1,109, and lasts a lot less time on a single charge. And while the iPad Pro's Magic Keyboard provides a joyful typing experience, the combined package costs $250 more than the Tab S7 with its keyboard — and Apple doesn't throw in a stylus like Samsung does. So, for a mid to high-end tablet, we have to give Samsung credit for giving you some serious bang for your buck.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 range is an ambitious offering from Samsung, with a premium build and a fantastic screen that's unlike any we've seen on Android tablets before. However, the lack of developer support for apps on Android tablets takes a toll on what is otherwise a top iPad competitor.

With general performance out of the way, it is time to talk about the important stuff. Can the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 replace your laptop? Not yet. You see, Samsung Dex is a powerful feature. It converts the Android UI into a desktop-like environment where you can use a mouse and a keyboard.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7’s display is a touchscreen, and has a WQXGA resolution, delivering a crispy image. Its viewing angles are great, its backlight doesn’t flicker and it covers 90% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Interestingly, the 120Hz refresh rate doesn’t correlate with the pixel response times, which are a bit slow, to be honest.

We’ve been using and reviewing iPads on YouTube for over 4 years now, and the last few years we've been putting them head to head with Samsungs offerings. At first the Galaxy Tab's were fairly mediocre, but as time went on they got better. With the Galaxy Tab S7's new 120HZ display and Snapdragon 865+ processor, along with new speakers, keyboard case, and S-pen performance Samsung finally has an absolutely fantastic tablet in their lineup and one that comes in quite a bit less expensive than the 2020 iPad Pro.

What a time to be a tablet shopper. Apple just launched a major revision to its iPad Air, and also gave the plain old basic iPad a power boost. Microsoft's Surface series makes regular Windows 10 feel more like a tablet experience. And Samsung has a new pair of premium tablets -- the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus -- that emphasize both office work and gaming.

Android as a whole has problems that Google and developers still need to address, but for the time being, the Galaxy Tab S7 stands out as the best Android tablet you can buy. Samsung knocked it out of the park with the hardware, offering a premium design, 120Hz display, blazing-fast performance, and solid battery life. The S Pen is also included for free, touting the same reduced latency introduced on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

As a tablet, the S7+ shines. It has a big, beautiful 120hz display that’s great for watching videos or sketching on, and the useful S Pen is included. But as a laptop stand-in, the Tab S7+ struggles due to software that’s inconsistent and unintuitive. Still, if you don’t expect it to fully replace your PC, the Tab S7+ is a capable machine.

At the end of my testing period, I mostly became frustrated because Samsung made some forward progress compared to last year’s Tab S6, and there are things I like or even love about the Tab S7. The hardware is top-notch, the display is perhaps the best you can get on any mobile device, and the audio experience is excellent. These really are the best media consumption tablets I’ve ever used, and I’d rather pick up the S7 Plus to watch the latest episode of Lovecraft Country than an iPad Pro.

If you'd asked me a few years ago which Android tablet to buy, I'd probably have said to stop looking. Buy an iPad. Buy a Surface Pro. Buy anything else. If you ask me today, the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus are the clear-cut best options. They both have gorgeous displays, premium designs, top-notch accessories, and even 5G support for those who need the fastest internet speeds outside of the home.

Samsung's been trying to make the Galaxy Tab S-series slates a big deal for a while, and the recent Tab S6 Lite was the first true home run for the tablet lineup. And while the Tab S7 looks like it will offer speedy performance and a brilliant display, it's just as important that it delivers great battery life, too. The Galaxy Tab S6 only lasted 8 hours and 58 minutes on a single charge, and we hope the Galaxy Tab S7 will enter the double-digits club when it comes to how many hours it will last.

Samsung has made a powerful, really nice looking tablet with a 120Hz screen and great S Pen functionality. For £619 it seems a good deal – however, it’ll be all down to Android feels on this device and whether the trade-offs might mean there are better options elsewhere. Qualcomm Adreno 650:
