Critiques pour le/la Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus
Superperformances galactiques.

Samsung has churned out a series of slates that set the standard across the Android ecosystem. No other Android tablet offers quite the same high-quality hardware, expressive screen, and performance. The Tab S8 Plus, in particular, strikes the right balance between size, portability, and power. However, while Samsung has the high-end Android market practically on lock, it is not the only game in town. Competing platforms and devices in the same price range with laptop-caliber chipsets handily outperform the Tab S8 Plus, particularly when it comes to advanced tasks and weighty apps. The Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, solid though it may be, is also constrained by the Android platform which is under-optimized for larger screens. In the end, there are better options for those seeking the best tablets that can replace a laptop. However, if you’re in the market for a premium Android tablet or want a top-tier widescreen media slate with a solid feature suite for work on the side, there is no other device worth considering. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus simply hits the sweet spot in a way other Android tablets simply don’t.

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus continue Samsung’s recent penchant of combining outstanding smartphone design with an excellent display to create an all-around fantastic experience. The switch to the taller display has allowed Samsung to cram even more screen real estate into its new smartphones and in doing so, the company is setting the new standard for big-screen devices. Think back to what a big screen phone meant a couple of years ago and compare it to the Galaxy S8 and it’s clear that the future is much brighter, and we’re now closer than ever to phone that is all display.

Having said the immediately above, those few bullet-pointed gripes at the end of the UI section are just about my only dislikes with the Galaxy S8+, and they are minor, somewhat nitpicky I'll readily admit, and oh so easily looked past in practice when using this phone on the daily.

Even with its software faults, Samsung has crafted a gem of a smartphone with its Galaxy S8+. Its not hard to grasp, has nice viewing angles thanks to its edge to edge display and has sufficient battery and quick charging to accompany it. Using both the S8 and S8+ I prefer this model but if you want something a little smaller you can get the S8 as well as they are identical spec to spec. If you haven’t decided to get the S8 Plus yet at this point it is virtually available on every carrier and in a magnitude of colors.

Is it any better, though? In my view, no, and that’s mainly due to the 6.2in Samsung Galaxy S8+’s size: it’s just one step too far. It’s simply too tall to slip into my pocket day to day. We’ve been here before with big phones, of course. I remember reviewing my first 4.5in smartphone and thinking that ludicrously big at the time, so my opinion might change. But given the choice, and considering the price differential – the Samsung Galaxy S8+ costs a hefty $1,349 to the S8’s $1,199 – the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the phone to choose from this pair.

THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S8+ is, according to the marketing spiel, ‘the next big thing’ — and it’s hard to deny that it’s a device that takes that slogan very literally. This sister product to the excellent Galaxy S8 we reviewed last month has a ridiculously sized screen, top-of-the-line specs and an equally bloated price – dearer than its regular-sized sibling.

The Galaxy S8+ is almost perfect - but no phone is. However, this might be the closest to perfect you are going to get right now, and the gorgeous screen and fantastic battery life certainly tip the scales in its favor. If you are an iPhone user this phone might be tempting, but iOS (and iMessage in particular) are hard to break away from if you are used to them, and the iPhone 7 Plus offers a fantastic larger phone experience with my favorite dual-camera implementation right now. The Galaxy S8+ didn’t end up with a second rear camera sensor, which I can only assume we will see with the Note 8. It also didn’t end up with an embedded fingerprint sensor, as mentioned above. Like I said, the GS8+ is almost perfect. But I still want one.

At the end of the day, the Galaxy S8+ is a phone I’d recommend to most buyers, but only if you’re willing to put up with its fragility. At over $800 outright, it’s an expensive handset, so it’d be devastating to see it shatter within a few weeks. Keep good care of it, though, and you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic range of hardware that could just be worth its high asking price.

The Galaxy S8+ is certainly a stunning piece of smartphone design. It’s fundamentally flawed, of course – the mass of fragile glass that needs protecting, the fixed-use Bixby button, the awkward biometrics – but it’s going to be very influential going forwards. Not just for other manufacturers to copy, but also for Samsung’s own Galaxy S9 in 2018, which is sure to be faster again, have fully working voice control and a fingerprint sensor underneath the main display. That will be a sure fire recommendation, but it’s harder to be so definite with this year’s version.

The Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8 are going to set you back quite a bit when it comes to their price tags. They are firmly at the high end, but that goes with the high end device you will be getting. Perhaps more importantly, if you want a device that is at the cutting edge in terms of design loaded down with hardware that works and works well, the Galaxy S8+ meets that need. There’s the potential that Bixby might be one other vital benefit on the Samsung Galaxy S8, however till the voice management a part of the system launches we can’t make that willpower. I can not wait to see if I actually can simply inform my telephone to ship a photograph to my associates with out ever touching my telephone. If Bixby lives as much as the hype, it could possibly be my favourite function of the S8.

In essence, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is the same phone as the S8, with all the things that make that phone great, but with a bigger screen, a bigger battery, a more unwieldy profile and a higher price. This review wasn’t meant to be an exhaustive take on what makes the Samsung Galaxy S8 right for you. We didn’t touch on the camera (which remains mostly unchanged from last year), the bump in storage to 64GB from 32GB, the unbelievably quick charging times, the decent bottom-firing speaker, or the truly awful placement of the fingerprint sensor. Most of those things you can figure out yourself just by looking at the facts and figures, you don’t need me to insult your intelligence by telling you how amazing it is to have double the storage or something.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ (review) are perhaps some of the most high profile smartphones launched in a while. For Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India, specifications include an Exynos 8895 octa-core SoC, Mali-G71 MP20 GPU, and 4GB of RAM. The US version has the same amount of memory, but it gets Qualcomm's MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 processor and an Adreno 540 GPU. According to our Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ review, the Exynos version has proven to be an absolute beast in terms of benchmarks.

But if you want the very best that smartphones have to offer today – and Samsung's most impressive handset to date – the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are as close to perfect as we've seen in any smartphone. This is a company that was once the butt of jokes: for blatantly copying Apple, delivering too much glitz and too little substance and (more recently) selling phones that were fire hazards. Take note: Samsung appears to have grown up, making an absolute beast of a phone in 2017. The S8 and S8+ mark a major milestone in smartphone evolution.

Yes, if you are looking for a top-end Android phone and want the best. The only challenger for this phone is the Google Pixel, which has not really flown off the shelves. My word of caution is to wait a few weeks before you buy the phone, just to ensure there are no major issues being reported from other parts of the world. Otherwise, this is a perfect phone with no big problems, and a lot of good features that will ensure a great user experience everyday.

The Samsung S8 Plus is dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meters. Which does check the box for underwater photography. However, the bigger picture here is that if the user drops water or coffee on it, the smartphone will still work. On the flipside, if you drop it on concrete from a height, chances are you will shatter the front or rear glass or both. So, our suggestion is to buy a case or a bumper panel for it as soon as you purchase it.

As with the regular Galaxy S8, we're really impressed by the Galaxy S8 Plus. Samsung has done a great job of making last year's models even better. However our initial thought is that, with both offering the infinity edge screen, there's not much reason to spend an extra £90 unless you really want a slightly bigger screen and larger battery.

Samsung has certainly proven that it has the design and manufacturing strengths to pull off absolutely stunning devices. If you're going to spend this much on a smartphone, you're going to want it to feel special, and that's something that both these phones do very well. Everyone who sees you use one will want to know what it is.

Now, should you run out and buy this phone? I’d recommend it, for sure, but it’s not the only phone I’d recommend. There’s a lot of great options out there and the S8/S8+ are just two of the best. You’ve got the G6 from LG that’s nice, plus plenty of other upcoming devices to look forward to. If you’re in the market, though, and need a phone right now, you’d be crazy not to at least consider the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+, depending on how big your pockets are.

Most definitely yes. The Galaxy S8 is Samsung's best phone ever. In fact, it's safe to say, that it's the best Android phone in the market right now. I like the Galaxy S8 more because it's more handy and convenient. But, the 3,000mAh battery inside the Galaxy S8 does leave me asking for more. While most users would be able to get one full working day of usage out of it, heavy users will have to charge it at least twice every day. It charges like a speeding bullet though which is a big plus.

The Galaxy S8 Plus is the Android phone you want if you like big and tall smartphones. It has a massive 6.2-inch display that doesn’t make the actual dimensions of the device much bigger. Samsung’s trick was to rid its phone of the physical home button and surrounding bezel, and while that means it has an annoyingly placed rear, off-center fingerprint sensor, the amazing display, great camera and slick software should make you forget about this flaw and its Bixby voice assistant being a no-show on day one.

Samsung has likely paved the way for a new generation of smartphone design in the S8 and S8+, and when you're in a phone shop (assuming you've got plenty of cash to burn), tossing up between the future in one hand and the past in another, I doubt a misplaced fingerprint scanner is going to hurt Samsung's latest flagships where it counts.

Despite the few negatives and a rather hefty price tag, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is one smartphone that is definitely worth a look especially if the prospective buyer prefers their smartphones big. If they prefer something even bigger, then Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 8 would be a good choice as well as long as it fares better or at least as well as the Galaxy S8 Plus.

So what do we think of the Galaxy S8+? We think it’s probably the best phone of 2017 so far, shading the LG G6 and Huawei P10 Plus and Mate 9. But it’s not a unreserved recommendation; there are flaws here and not even the incredible display can mask them. It’s also not a wallet-friendly choice, but then neither is it intended to be.

The rumor mills have been working overtime predicting Samsung’s next flagship device, especially since the company took a much subdued stance in the months following the Note 7 affair. But, they’ve been picking up steam again with aggressive advertising and marketing to put the point across that any battery issues are a thing of the past. These days, you wouldn’t be able to browse a website or watch a video without seeing Samsung’s 8-point battery safety check ads.

It was a tall task for the Samsung Galaxy S8+ development team - not an enviable position, to say the least. Not only were they looked upon to deliver a meaningful upgrade to the S-series in an increasingly competitive market, but had a Note7-sized gap in the company portfolio to fill. And such a task certainly involved taking quite a few risks.

For the most part, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is a slam dunk. It’s brilliantly designed, brimming with horsepower and has a beautiful screen. That’s all most people will need, and our gripes are minor. It’s too bad Bixby is still incomplete — its voice interface doesn’t work yet, and the stuff we did get can be hit-or-miss. Fortunately, Bixby is strictly optional, and the rest of the phone is remarkably polished. Long story short, if you’re looking for a new phone, this should be at the top of your list.

With all the bells and whistles of the Galaxy S8 and S8+, it’s only understandable that the phones will be quite expensive when it arrives in the Philippines. Prolific leaker Evan Blass posted expected European pricing for both phones a few days ago and it isn’t pretty. Even accounting the fact that European pricing will always be higher due to higher taxes, you can expect the Galaxy S8 to be priced near the 40K mark, while the Galaxy S8+ will certainly be in the low 40’s. That’s pricing approaching iPhone territory, though you will have to consider that both devices use large, hard-to-produce curved Super AMOLED panels. Still, that price though.

Commentaire
ARM Mali-G71 MP20:
