Le Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra est un excellent smartphone. Design soigné, superbe écran, interface des plus agréables, puissance à revendre et batterie endurante. On a clairement affaire à un modèle tout en haut du panier qui n'a pas peur d'assumer un tel statut. Mais dans notre conclusion, quelques sujets méritent d'être soulevés. Tout d'abord, quid de la polyvalence photo ? Sans x10 optique, le S24 Ultra est-il à snober ? Pas du tout. Samsung a réussi la prouesse d'améliorer le zoom x10 quand bien celui-ci est désormais géré numériquement. C'est d'autant plus une prouesse que, ce faisant, le constructeur améliore aussi la qualité globale des grossissements sur la plage focale allant de x3 à x10. Le zoom x5 optique qu'il embarque pouvait être perçu comme une concession, c'est en réalité une force.

Au même titre que le Galaxy S24, le Galaxy S24 Ultra donne pleinement satisfaction. Il s’agit de l’un des tout meilleurs smartphones de cette génération. Il propose un design tout aussi minimaliste qu’agréable en offrant une surface d’affichage d’exception. On apprécie aussi l’usage du stylet qui est un plus. Les performances sont réellement au rendez-vous pour les applications au quotidien, mais également pour passer son temps à jouer. Les photos sont magnifiques et nous avons aimé jouer avec son zoom dont les résultats sont optimisés avec grande justesse. Le système est un régal avec un haut niveau de personnalisation et nous avons beaucoup apprécié les fonctionnalités d’aide à la traduction, au résumé et les possibilités d’édition des photos, comme sur le Galaxy S24, mais avec un écran encore plus grand, c’est d’autant plus un vrai plaisir. Les 7 ans de mises à jour sont un plus. Le Galaxy S24 Ultra est une vraie réussite, quel que soit le domaine exploité.

Nec plus ultra de la nouvelle gamme de Samsung, le Galaxy S24 Ultra est celui qui brille le plus fort. Très onéreux, le modèle Ultra le vaut bien grâce à son écran à très haute définition, profitant de l’une des luminosités les plus élevées du marché (et d’un revêtement antireflet inédit). Il permet évidemment de profiter de performances stellaires grâce à sa puce Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, et tutoie les étoiles en termes de qualité optique avec sa configuration photo musclée. Le S24 Ultra est particulièrement à l’aise en longue focale, grâce à un nouveau capteur x5 qui produit de meilleurs résultats que le x10 de l’an dernier. Un pari gagnant donc, même si nos tests en laboratoire nous confirment que les modules photo ont toujours un peu de mal à prévenir l’apparition de bruit dans l’image.

Est-ce que je vous conseille d'acheter le Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra? Oui. Certes, il est très similaire au Galaxy S23 Ultra de l'an dernier. Mais rien que la politique de mise à jour allongée à 7 ans rend ce modèle plus pertinent en termes de rentabilité à long terme. La qualité photo est encore une fois au top. Le nouveau téléobjectif x5 est un choix judicieux bien qu'un peu trop pragmatique à mon goût, faisant perdre un peu de magie à cette gamme iconique de Samsung. Les performances du Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 et l'endurance de la batterie de 5000 mAh sont excellentes. Bref, il y a plein de bonnes raisons de dépenser presque l'intégralité de mon salaire mensuel dans ce Galaxy S24 Ultra. Mais les fonctions Galaxy AI n'en sont définitivement pas une. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi Samsung a autant insisté sur cet aspect de son smartphone. Et j'ai vraiment l'impression qu'on est tombé dans l'une de ces gimmicks qui surfent sur les derniers buzzwords comme les NFT phones ou les crypto phones.

Vous disposez d’un S23 Ultra de l’an passé et ce S24 Ultra vous fait de l’œil pour le remplacer ? Réfléchissez bien. À y regarder des plus près, le rayon des nouveautés est finalement assez peu garni. On apprécie le design un peu plus contemporain avec ce boîtier en titane taillé à la serpe et cet écran qui abandonne les bords incurvés au profit d’une dalle désormais totalement plate. Celui-ci d’ailleurs offre un gain de luminosité non négligeable et se pare d’un traitement antireflet efficace. Mais au-delà de ces éléments, les écarts avec ce que propose déjà le S23 Ultra restent ténus. Les performances du Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 sont bien là mais le S23 Ultra n’est certainement pas à la traîne non plus. Le volet photo quant à lui ne présente finalement pas de grandes différences non plus. Idem pour l’autonomie et la recharge en légère progression seulement.

De prime abord, on pourrait penser que Samsung a assuré l’essentiel en proposant les évolutions techniques qui permet de passer d’un Galaxy S23 Ultra à un Galaxy S24 Ultra mais cela serait trop réducteur. En effet, à côté même des évolutions techniques, c’est surtout sur la partie logicielle que Samsung s’est enfin concentré du début à la fin pour nous proposer une expérience utilisateur digne de ce nom. Simple, fluide, intelligente, ce sont les premiers mots qui nous viennent à l’esprit pour qualifier l’expérience utilisateur. L’interface utilisateur par défaut propose des couleurs qui sont en adéquation avec celle d’Android Stock. Du coup, One UI est des plus agréables au quotidien. L’apport de l’IA va encore évoluer mais ne serait-ce que le support de la fonction « Circle To Search / Encercler pour Rechercher » est un bon en avant dans l’expérience utilisateur. La traduction en direct présente encore des couacs mais Samsung, avec Google, vont dans le bon sens.

Le successeur du Galaxy S23 Ultra représente une évolution logique et appréciable du S23 ultra de l’an dernier. Seul smartphone à être accompagné d’un stylet, il bénéficie du meilleur de la technologie du moment. On apprécie la qualité de l’écran, la puissance de calcul ainsi que son autonomie très honorable. Côté design, il laisse tomber l’écran à bords incurvés que le constructeur mettait en avant jusqu’ici sur ses produits haut de gamme. Le châssis en titane s’avère solide, tout comme le nouveau verre Gorilla Armor qui recouvre la dalle AMOLED. En plus d’améliorer sa résistance aux éraflures, il élimine une bonne partie des reflets parasites. La partie photo/vidéo est en progrès et l’abandon du zoom optique 10x périscopique, remplacé par une version 5x, ne porte pas vraiment à conséquence sur la qualité des images. Cette année, la véritable innovation vient de la partie logicielle.

Enfin, notez que la partie retouche photo est également aidée par l’intelligence artificielle puisqu’après avoir pris une photo, le mobile va proposer automatiquement des améliorations tout à fait pertinentes. Le zoom est également amélioré ainsi que la stabilisation d’images qui est optimisée, elle aussi. Le smartphone est aussi capable de supprimer les reflets présents sur une image d’un clic. En outre, on peut également compter sur une fonction qui recadre l’image et remplit les parties manquantes en arrière-plan. Notez qu’il est possible de sélectionner un élément d’une image de le déplacer et là aussi le logiciel s’occupe de combler l’arrière-plan qui a été découpé. Enfin la dernière fonctionnalité des plus prometteuses, c’est la possibilité de convertir n’importe quelle vidéo filmée à une cadence normale en mode slow motion à 120 images par seconde grâce à l’ajout d’images intermédiaires là aussi générées par l’intelligence artificielle.

Le Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra est un digne successeur de l'excellent S23 Ultra. Samsung n'a pas cassé la formule magique et réussit à proposer un smartphone premium très équilibré. Excellente autonomie, performances de très haut vol, interface implacable désormais servie par 7 ans de mises à jour, le tout saupoudré d'un design à l'assise un peu plus prononcée. En photo, le choix du passage à un X5 est complètement payant, puisqu'on profite dorénavant d'une bonne qualité photo jusqu'en X10, à l'exception près du téléobjectif X3 qui nous a moins convaincu. L'écran aussi, certes excellent dans les grandes lignes, nous a tout de même un peu déçu lorsqu'on regarde de plus près la justesse colorimétrique. Sur un smartphone à ce prix, on attendait mieux. Il en va de même pour la charge, pas au niveau en 2024. Quant à l'IA, difficile de dire s'il s'agit de la cerise sur le gâteau, ou de la part de gâteau en trop, tant Samsung aurait presque pu s'en passer.

The short answer is no, not really, unless you really like new toys like me and can get a good trade-in deal with the cashback/discount incentives on top, but before doing that, consider that a lot of the One UI 6.1 additions, including some AI features, should be coming to the S23 series as well later this year. This might even include camera improvements, so it might be worth holding onto those S23 Ultras a bit longer. The only downside here is that the S23 series promised four years of updates, with a year already gone, that leaves three more Android versions to go, whilst the S24 will see a further four beyond that point. For me, the upgrade came with a saving of nearly £950 after accounting for all the discounts and selling the free bundled Galaxy Watch6, and trading in my S23 Ultra to a third party for a higher figure than what Samsung was offering. The new camera improvements, screen performance, and seven years of updates sold it for me.

Granted, most people put a case on their phone, hiding the design. The camera takes perfectly acceptable photos, but it does tend to overexpose some areas, so just be mindful of that. And the new AI features are convenient -- useful, even -- but not a big enough reason to upgrade to the S24 Ultra, especially if you have an older Galaxy device that will get them via an update. Performance, display and battery life are the S24 Ultra's killer features, and as is usually the case for Samsung's flagship phone, other phone makers are going to have their work cut out for them in 2024 if they want to compete with Samsung. The S24 Ultra sure looks like it's the Android phone to beat this year.

There is no question that Samsung and Qualcomm have absolutely hit it out of the park with this generation when it comes to performance and battery life, I'm still doing some specific camera and Galaxy AI testing before I give a final ruling on the phone. The price increase certainly isn't a welcome change when the phone looks largely the same on the outside, but the changes actually run deep on this phone with the anti-glare display, the built-in AI features, and the massive improvements to the performance and battery life. The cameras remain my biggest question and regrettably we've been dealing with abysmal weather here that hasn't lent itself to some of the test photos I need. The loss of the 10x optical zoom stings, but what I have been able to capture so far doesn't suggest that it is the downgrade some believe it to be.

At this point, you'd be forgiven for being fed up with companies trying to push AI into everything. But if you just think about these as software upgrades meant to make your phone more useful, Samsung’s push into machine learning makes a lot more sense. The S23U was already a great phone and on the S24 Ultra, we’re getting the same (though somewhat plain) design, but with a tougher titanium frame, a much faster chip, a brighter display and even longer battery life. Samsung also tweaked its main telephoto lens to provide a more useful focal length but without a major decrease in reach or quality. But the big thing is that, with its Galaxy AI suite, Samsung finally has an answer to the sophisticated features that were previously only available from the Pixel family. Sure, the S24’s tools aren’t quite as polished as Google’s offerings, but they get you 80 to 90 percent of the way there.

Samsung's Galaxy S24 Plus is powered by the Exynos 2400 in the UK, vs the S24 Ultra running Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But which is best for gaming, and is battery life affected? I've been testing the Samsung S24 Plus and that Galaxy S24 Ultra, to see if Exynos 2400 really is inferior to SD 8 Gen 3 for Genshin Impact action and beyond. We start this Plus vs Ultra battle with a bit of benchmarking, using GeekBench 6 as well as 3D Mark to test the CPU and GPU. But I always prefer real life testing, so I've spent a few days playing with these Samsung phones. The Exynos 2400 holds up well compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, so don't discount it. That Galaxy S24 Plus can blaze through Genshin Impact and other stress tests with only very occasional, minor stumbles.

Even though there’s just too much Galaxy AI to take in at once, I’m thankful that Samsung has listened to us and created better AI-assisted photo and video editing apps along with a whole bunch of other AI-assisted apps. To answer the earliest question, with all these features the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is definitely a contender for the title of best smartphone of 2024 as well, especially if Samsung continues to add more AI features and fine-tune existing features. However, I do have to say that in terms of raw power or photography capability, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is significantly more powerful, for the apps and games currently available in the market the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is already more than enough.

A refreshed design does not make a true upgrade. New features, new technology, and lifestyle-enhancing alternations do, and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has all of this along with seemingly every other feature or specification bump you could want from a new phone. Not only is it worth buying if you don’t already own a Galaxy Ultra phone, I’d even say it’s worth buying if you have a Galaxy S23 Ultra. It’s really that good. Obviously, you don’t need to upgrade your Galaxy S23 Ultra (it’s still excellent), but it’s heartening to discover Samsung hasn’t just sent out a vague refresh of its most expensive non-folding phone this year, which is really what it did with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 over the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It’s a combination of all its parts — from the amazing battery life to the genuinely improved camera — that makes it a must-buy.

Time for conclusion and overall thoughts – I do think that in terms of hardware, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is an iterative upgrade. There are two big changes – the first one is the screen, which I think is a huge upgrade because of its antireflection properties and also using a flat screen. The second change is the change from a 10x telephoto to a 5x telephoto camera. Depending on how you use your phone to take pictures, this may or may not be a good change. Personally, I think 5x is better as it’s a more proper amount of zoom to take pictures of the dogs. 10x zoom makes me feel like I’m a National Geographic photographer. And the price – it’s expensive for sure, but there are still people that are going to buy it no matter what. Samsung will perpetually have discounts and such, so if you think the price is right, go get it.

90% Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Review: Don't Buy For The AI

There's increasingly a sense, for flagship phones like this Galaxy S24 Ultra, that purchase decisions have already been made long before the handset gets its official reveal. If you're a "Samsung person" then there's a fair chance you'll be picking up the next high-end Galaxy that's announced, just like an "iPhone person" probably already knows to be saving their money for Apple's next bauble late in the year. There's nothing wrong with that, either: it speaks, certainly, to the refinement and consistency of the experience companies like Samsung, and Apple, are offering (as does Samsung's commitment to seven generations of Android update). All the same, it's tough to escape the feeling that we're beyond the days of huge hardware advancements, but still not quite in an age of transformational software. The Galaxy S24 Ultra's cameras are great, but so were those of its predecessors.

Samsung's newest S Pen-toting beast has just been unveiled at the January Unpacked event! That's exactly 11 months after the announcement of the Galaxy S23 series — it seems Samsung has been growing too eager to launch its flagships before the typical 12 month cycle is up. Well, what are we getting? New processor — sure —, some design facelifts — definitely, with a titanium frame to keep up with the times. A bit of a camera module shuffle has the zoom cameras changed up a bit, but we still end up with 4 cameras on the back, like before. And, we now get to see the Galaxy S24 Ultra go completely flat-screened. There's just the ever so slight arch at the edge of it, so it fuses into the frame seamlessly. Samsung has been reducing the edge curve over the past few years. If you are still a fan of it, it looks like the Galaxy S23 Ultra may be your last chance to get a phone with an Edge screen for a while. The good news is that we do expect Samsung to keep selling the S23 Ultra as a "reduced cost model" over the next year.

85% Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review: It’s power-packed, it’s smarter, but at what cost?

In the last few days of testing, it was made clear that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is power packed, and has all the premium-ness that it promises. It is loaded with AI features –– which could be gimmicky for some people –– that add a lot of convenience to the general usability of the phone. These features are more evident when you see the device as a standalone. However, when you compare the device with its predecessor, you see only a handful of hardware upgrades, and an upwards jump in the pricing of the model which now starts at Rs 1,30,000. The S23 Ultra was priced starting Rs 1,24,000. That naturally raises the question if the S24 Ultra is a worthy upgrade. In fact, ever since I started testing the phone, that has been the most frequently asked question.

Reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra after 5 days of testing the camera, battery life, gaming performance and more, comparing vs the S23 Ultra from last year. Is the Samsung S24 Ultra a worthy upgrade, and worth that £1249 UK price? I've been using this mega-Galaxy phone for almost a week and so far I'm a big fan. For one, the camera has improved over last year's model, so the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra offers more natural results with Scene Optimiser switched off. That's on top of the improved zoom between 5-10x, which now boasts upgraded clarity and tone. Then there's the battery life, which is again superb - and ever so slightly better on the Samsung S24 Ultra vs the S23 from 2023. Sadly those charging speeds haven't improved. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is more powerful, but this doesn't always translate to better performance.

Similarly, if you must have S Pen and big displays, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the only true option among the three. The upgraded Vision Booster and 2,600-nits peak brightness across all three models can be very nice, although we doubt most people would be struggling with its previous peak brightness. Without throwing the Galaxy S24 Ultra at a wall to determine its dent resistance, the Titanium body is an aesthetic choice, and nothing more at the moment.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a true flagship smartphone that has everything you can want in a smartphone. It can go toe to toe with the likes of the iPhone 15 Pro Max but also beats its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, even in camera performance. However, it’s a big win. It is an upgrade and the comparison pictures will tell the same tale but it is not that big of an upgrade and hard to see at first glance. We only came across two things that can be considered as a con. The first is the lack of a curved screen, which will surely disappoint a set of users. The second con is the lack of a 10x periscopic camera. This year we only get a 5x periscopic camera but there’s barely any noticeable difference between the two. So, if you are rocking an older Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 10, or any other older smartphone, this upgrade will be worth it. This experience can be further enhanced with Galaxy AI, which will surely get a lot more features in the coming months.

This hands-on review runs through the Samsung S24 Ultra specs and shows how this £1249 beast stacks up to the Galaxy S24 Plus and mini 2024 smartphone. For one, you get upgraded camera hardware, including a 200MP primary shooter and 50MP periscope zoom. However, the other phones can now capture 8K video at 30FPS and they have the same ultra-wide and selfie setup. The other big difference is the chipset - in the UK, that Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the S24 and Plus are Exynos 2400. Stick around for more on the differences! The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus now boasts a QHD screen just like the Ultra model, and it's only a mite smaller. However, the S24 Ultra does upgrade that Victus 2 screen coating to Gorilla Glass Armor, which is anti-reflective as well as scratch resistant. It's quite obvious that Galaxy AI is doing the heavy lifting this year, with most of the hardware improvements and software features heavily relying on the on-device AI algorithms. For yet another year, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the center of attention with the new telephoto camera, titanium side frame, and flat frontal design. However, the changes in the Galaxy S24 and S24+ are more than welcome. The slight bump in the battery capacity and the upgrade to brighter LTPO OLED panels are significant upgrades. In fact, the Galaxy S24+, with its higher resolution LTPO panel and 4,900 mAh battery, put it much closer to the S24 Ultra than ever before. We are curious to see how this plays out because some may prefer the S24+ over the Ultra due to their similar feature set and big price gap. What's more, we are eager to see how the new AI-driven features aid real-life situations and whether Samsung's heavy bet on AI instead of offering more meaningful hardware upgrades is enough to boost sales and spark users' interest.

While these changes are welcome, they don’t fundamentally change the Galaxy experience from years gone by. If you’ve used a recent Galaxy flagship, you’ll know what these devices feel like to use, for better or worse. Likewise, One UI 6.1 is an incremental upgrade over the One UI 6 software currently running on the Galaxy S23 series, and with years of updates left, recent models still feel very current. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra offers a bit more new hardware, mostly in the camera department. Still, we’ll have to spend more time with it to determine whether the upgrades are worth the extra cash. This circles us back to Galaxy AI as the key reason to have your eye on the new Galaxy S24 series. I’d hesitate to call the new features as revolutionary as Samsung claims. However, the company has earmarked some useful AI utilities and implemented them very well for a first-generation attempt.

Despite some early reservations, I was left with an overall positive first impression following my brief time with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Aside from the new titanium frame, flat display and the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, there’s not a lot else in terms of upgrades, but Galaxy AI takes up the slack. I’m certainly looking forward to fully testing all the new features it has to offer when I receive a handset for review. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need to spend this much on the 24 Ultra, however. Most of these features can also be found on the cheaper models as well, and at a starting price of £1,249, you might want to reconsider your S24 Ultra purchase and perhaps pick up one of those instead. If not, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is available to preorder from today (17 January) and launches in the UK on 31 January.

Qualcomm Adreno 750:

Puce graphique pour smartphones et tablettes intégrée au SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Qualcomm affirme qu'il est 25 % plus rapide que l'Adreno 7340 dans le Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 et les premiers benchmarks montrent que le GPU peut battre l'iGPU Apple A17 Pro.

Ces cartes devraient être capables de faire tourner tout les jeux d'aujourd'hui, mais la plupart d'entre eux uniquement en détails moyens ou faibles et avec des résolution basses. Les plus vieux jeux ou les jeux moins gourmands restent jouables avec de beaux graphismes.

SD 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy: Le cryo-CPU est basé sur l'architecture ARM v9.2 et se compose de trois clusters : Le premier comprend un noyau principal rapide(ARM Cortex-X4) pouvant atteindre 3,39 GHz. Le deuxième est composé de trois cœurs de puissance pouvant atteindre 3,2 GHz et de deux cœurs supplémentaires cadencés à 3,0 GHz (tous Cortex-A720). Le cluster d'efficacité se compose de deux cœurs d'économie d'énergie(Cortex-A520) qui fonctionnent jusqu'à 2,3 GHz. Le SoC utilise le processeur intégré Adreno 750 pour l'accélération graphique. la 5G est incluse dans la puce avec le modem Snapdragon X70. Par rapport à la SD8 Gen3 normale, la variante "for Galaxy" offre un noyau principal cadencé à 90 MHz de plus et un GPU plus cadencé.
