The Galaxy S21 Fan Edition is definitely a confusing phone. It’s almost identical to the base model Galaxy S21, except it has cheaper materials and one extra generation of OS updates (so it should receive Android 13, 14, and 15, while the Galaxy S21 will stop at 14). The Galaxy S21 was $799.99 at launch, but it dropped to $699 on more than one occasion, while the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition starts at $699.99. Samsung might drop the price of the FE over the next few months to make the phone more of a deal, but the company hasn’t done anything yet. The entire Galaxy S21 family is starting to go out of stock at retailers, which indicates Samsung might sell the Galaxy S21 FE as the only available Galaxy S21 model from this point on. If that’s true, cross-shopping the two phones is a bit of a pointless exercise, unless you’re deciding between a new Galaxy S21 FE and a used/refurbished Galaxy S21. In summary: if you want a new phone, your only choice between the two will probably be the Galaxy S21 FE. I’d still recommend waiting for a sale if you can, though

With Samsung removing as much from this phone as it adds, I was prepared to be let down by the Galaxy S21. But I needn’t have worried. Sure, a plastic back isn’t ideal on a flagship phone but I soon got used to the polycarbonate, and the overall design of the Galaxy S21 is lovely, as well as more practical than the S20. The lack of any hardware upgrades for the cameras was a little disappointing, but then they still produce flagship-grade results and have a huge amount of features and tools to really dig into. I would have liked to have seen Samsung push the hardware envelope for the Galaxy S21, but that’s the domain of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. By making what I feel was the right choice when it came to removing features, the Galaxy S21 still offers the latest flagship chips, a fantastic display and powerful cameras in a refined smartphone at a competitive price; one that should worry the iPhone 12. The only fly in the ointment, is the Galaxy S20. If you already have an S20 then I don’t think you’ll benefit from an upgrade.

This is the "cheapest" and "smallest" of the Samsung flagship family, the Galaxy S21 — not an Ultra, not a Plus. But it’s still not a cheap phone by no means — it’ll set you back $800 at the base storage tier. Is it… worth it? It definitely looks great and packs the latest Sammy hardware — a 120Hz screen and a Snapdragon 888 (or Exynos 2100) processor. It’s snappy and fun to use, and its camera is pretty great as well. Why go for the Galaxy S21 at all? Well, it definitely looks a lot more sophisticated than the S20 FE and has a much better camera. And it comes in a smaller package, if a compact phone is what you are exclusively after. There’s a market for it, but if you find yourself scoffing at that $800 price-tag, definitely check out the Galaxy S20 FE instead. On the other hand, if money is not a big issue, but the plastic back is — Samsung is basically pressuring you into going for the larger Galaxy S21+, which I think is a low-blow tactic.

There are likely a lot of very disappointed Samsung fans this year. They were probably hoping for a phone designed just for them with every conceivable spec and feature. The Galaxy S21 is definitively not that. While that is unfortunate, it doesn’t seem like Samsung is too worried about those buyers. With the Galaxy S21, it’s clear that Samsung is OK with alienating its die-hard fans in the hopes that it will entice more mainstream users. The price, features, and design of the Galaxy S21 all scream “Honda” rather than “Mercedes.” That might be a tough pill to swallow for Galaxy S lovers, but it’s the right move to make during a global pandemic. Ultimately, that’s the choice you have with this phone and the Galaxy S21 family in general. Do you want stylish, fast, and economical, or do you want powerful, luxurious, and expensive? This phone fits very firmly in the first category. In the end, the Galaxy S21 is great at being what it is. There are some notable flaws but the price more than makes up for them.

Coming to market in January 2021, the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G (Snapdragon)’s launch price puts it into the Premium ($600-$799) segment. Like its Exynos twin, it comes with a number of attractive features, including a triple-camera setup. Our team of battery experts recently put it through our DXOMARK testing protocol; what follows is a summary of the results. The Samsung Galaxy S21 5G (Snapdragon) racks up an above-average overall score in its segment, beating its Exynos sibling and doing largely better than the two competitor devices in this review, the Apple iPhone 12 mini and the Google Pixel 5, due primarily to better performance in our autonomy tests. The table below shows the battery capacity, charger, display type and resolution, and processor specifications for the Snapdragon version of the S21 5G and for the Apple and Google devices. The Samsung S21 5G (Snapdragon) achieves decent autonomy overall, but it would have been nice to pair that with faster charging, which is quite common at this price range.

The Galaxy S21 makes all the right compromises to reach a lower price point without impeding too much on the core flagship experience — but even the right compromises are still just that; compromises. The S21 is a great everyday phone for casual users who want a smooth Android experience with reasonably powerful cameras, but if you want to carry the absolute best of the best, you'll want to look elsewhere. The polycarbonate body helps lower the price without making the phone feel cheap. The flat display does the same thing. The reduced RAM has little impact on overall performance, especially when paired with the Snapdragon 888. This is still, by all means, a premium phone, only without the premium price tag to match.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 5G (Exynos) is a well-built device, which is reflected in its decent scores for efficiency. While it lands in the bottom half of our database among all devices tested to date, it is well within the norms for Premium segment devices. The Xiaomi and Oppo smartphones have much better charging times compared to the S21 5G, but the Samsung device’s charging is nonetheless very efficient.

Although the battery life could have been lengthier - especially considering the price point - the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G is still one of the best phones we’ve seen so far this year. The Exynos 2100 processor and 6.2in Dynamic AMOLED display make the phone an absolute pleasure to use, while additional features such as the Director’s View or wireless charging capabilities make it a truly universal phone which can be enjoyed by everyone. In fact, the Galaxy S21 5G couldn’t have come at a better time: with many sectors rebounding after a difficult 16 months and consumers finally allowed to enjoy themselves, investing in a new premium smartphone is a tempting way to start the post-lockdown era. There might be plenty of similar options available, starting with the more budget-conscious Galaxy A52 5G at £399, but if you’re looking for a treat, the Galaxy S21 5G might just be it. Now bring on the Roaring Twenties.

The Galaxy S21 isn’t the star of Samsung’s S series in 2021, like we’ve been used to for most of the past decade, but it’s a solid smartphone choice with an impressive camera, powerful internals and great battery life. If you want the best of the best, look to the Galaxy S21 Ultra; but if you want a handset that’s cheaper than the Galaxy S20 was at launch, with a whole load of premium features, the Galaxy S21 is a delight to use, and will do you proud.

Not a huge amount has changed so if you grabbed a Galaxy S20 last year, then you might want to hold onto it for a little while longer. If, however, you’re eager to start 2021 with a brand-new handset, either by replacing an out of date model or making the move from Apple to Android, then the Galaxy S21 is the smart choice; the slightly lower price helps, too. The decision to remove the microSD slot and bundled charger are the only blots on the landscape; otherwise, the Galaxy S21 represents another sublime flagship offering from Samsung. If you can live without both these things there’s no doubt the Galaxy S21 will be a brilliant sidekick for whatever 2021 decides to throw at you.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 5G is the least expensive of the company’s current high-end S21 series. Here we examine the version based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is sold in the US and China (we’ve previously reviewed the global version, powered by Samsung’s own Exynos chip). The Samsung Galaxy S21 5G (Snapdragon) features a 120 Hz 6.2-inch AMOLED screen with a hole punch for the selfie camera. It has 8 GB of memory with either 128 or 256 GB of storage. There are three cameras on the back; the main wide and ultra-wide modules have 12 MP sensors. The tele camera starts quite wide (76˚ field of view) but uses its 64 MP sensor to retain detail while zooming in, with the output binned down to 12 MP.

The only fly in the ointment, is the Galaxy S20. If you already have an S20 then I don’t think you’ll benefit from an upgrade. I feel Samsung knows this and the S21 is more for people with older Galaxy phones or looking to move to their next phone. If you're in such a position, then I really suggest you consider the Galaxy S21 as you won’t be disappointed.

Samsung decided to make the Galaxy S21 the phone for the everyday person. Power users will think it's anemic, but the average smartphone buyer will find everything they need at a very reasonable cost. If you're looking for the Android phone that has it all, check out the Galaxy S21 Ultra. If you're looking for a phone that delivers the essentials without destroying your bank account, this is the Galaxy for you.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 5G (Exynos) is a capable selfie shooter, doing well overall with both stills and videos. Images and videos have plenty of detail with wide dynamic range, and although there’s more noise than ideal and color in stills could be better, performance is generally very satisfying. It’s worth noting that this phone scores largely on par with (or even slightly below) Samsung’s last-generation devices, but that doesn’t change the fact that the S21’s selfie performance is competitive with the market overall.

Samsung’s dominant place in the market means the Galaxy S21 5G (Exynos) will be on the shortlist for many people considering a new, fairly high-end Android phone. Most mobile photographers will probably be satisfied with the S21’s nice color and accurate exposures, despite higher-than-ideal noise and the occasional clipped highlight.

And I just can't get over the value of the S21, even at full MSRP. I know, it's a little crazy thinking of an $800 phone as being a good value, and the OnePlus 9 is $70 cheaper, but there's more to it than just comparing a pair of prices. Samsung guarantees a whole extra year with its update policy. Samsung's track record for updating its phones from the last couple of years also beats OnePlus's very easily (and I wish it weren't so), and that means the Galaxy S21 will last you longer between upgrades. Amortize that cost over the expected lifetime and you're saving quite a bit. We've been known to adjust our review scores over time (usually down), but as I've used more smartphones this year, my opinion of the Galaxy S21 has only improved. So, we're increasing our review score by half a point to 9/10 and giving the Galaxy S21 a much-deserved Editors' Choice Most Wanted award.

The Galaxy S21 is perhaps more a style icon than a tech one, as it is actually a downgrade from the Galaxy S20 in some respects. However, we love its rear camera array. Still, those are relatively small blemishes on a phone that otherwise improved so much on its predecessor. If you haven't upgraded in a while, or if you're simply looking to upgrade and you're already familiar with Samsung, the Galaxy S21 is definitely worth a look. You can buy the Snapdragon variant in the U.S. on Amazon, where it's currently discounted to $699.99, making it an even better deal. In the UK, the Exynos variant (the one we tested), is available starting at £735.80 depending on your color of choice.

The Galaxy S21 lineup is now available. Before you buy one, the biggest takeaway you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, along with the Galaxy S21 Plus 5G and Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, is that Samsung cut the US price of each by $200 (the savings are less in other countries). Clearly this wasn't done out of generosity and Samsung's made trade-offs to hit that lower price on the Galaxy S21: The wall charger and headphones don't come in the box, the phone doesn't have a microSD card slot for expanded storage and it has 4GB of RAM less than the S20. Samsung also removed half of the pixels from the screen and replaced the Gorilla Glass from the back with polycarbonate, which is a nice way of saying plastic.

So, let’s break it down: Should you buy the Galaxy S21? Well, if you’re looking for a compact flagship phone with the latest features and a beautiful design, don’t mind the lack of expandable storage or full-fledged Samsung Pay support, and are okay with your phone heating up at times (an issue that, should it be widespread, will likely be fixable through a software update), the Galaxy S21 will suit you well. It’s not a huge step up over the Galaxy S20, but then not many people are upgrading their phones yearly so that shouldn’t matter all that much.

While it sounds like a lot of praise for the current batch of Galaxy S phones by Samsung, we're also not blind to the missteps that came with the Galaxy S21 series. If you ask us, the Koreans should've kept microSD compatibility instead of removing it, and bring back 1440p on to the S21 and S21+ for the people who actually know how to use them. The real shame is the removal of a charging adapter. Indeed, Samsung could've found it in them to at least give a universal fast-charging adapter, considering the sticker prices of these premium devices.

At RM3,699, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is actually more affordable than the Galaxy S20 when it was first launched. The predecessor was priced at RM3,599 and offered only 128GB of storage, but this phone comes with 256GB of storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 is a great smartphone overall. The new Exynos 2100 shows some solid performance here, it’s noticeably more efficient than the Exynos 990 SoC, camera works great, adaptive refresh rate is a great addition to have, battery life is good, it’s an attractive device, the matte finish is a good change, and the under-display fingerprint scanner works better.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 is a good phone that, above all, offers high processing performance and a reliable camera. There have been some compromises made in comparison to other top-notch phones, most notably the plastic materials and the lower screen resolution, while the battery hasn’t blown us away either. Fortunately the price is more competitive, which partly makes up for these potential shortfalls.

There's a lift in design for the Galaxy S21, resulting in a phone that looks fresh and exciting, and a great display, offering adaptive refresh rates. While there's plenty of power - and a flagship performance - the camera doesn't reach the highs that you get from the Galaxy S21 Ultra, leaving this feeling like the lesser device. Sadly, sitting so close to the cheaper S20 FE, that might see some opting for the cheaper phone instead.

There are sacrifices yes, but this is still a great phone for a more enticing price. It has a lovely screen, a reliable camera and a slick new design that feels a little bit futuristic. The basics are here and they're all done excellently.

Aside from a rejuvenated design and the obligatory spec bump, the Galaxy S21 does little to improve upon or surpass its predecessor (and in some areas steps backwards). That said, as ever this year's S21 has everything you'll likely want and need in a high-end 2021 smartphone, without pushing the boat out.

The S21 is a significant rethink by Samsung, which may have tried to push the S20 to be too premium. But the company found a good balance in terms of price, features and design for the S21.

It's not that we don't like the Galaxy S21. On the contrary, we're quite fond of its looks, and there's proven substance beneath them. But maybe that's the issue - it's a little too proven. Last year's S20 is in many ways superior, and even though the S21 launches at a lower MSRP, the year-old S20 can still be found for less while arguably offering more.

Unsurprisingly, the S21 is a good phone. It has a powerful processor, a lovely screen, capable cameras and a long-lasting battery. It even has some useful software and a gorgeous new design in eye-catching colors. At $800, the S21 is more reasonably priced than its stablemates. If you prefer a pure Google experience and want to save $100, the Pixel 5 may be good enough for you. But the S21 has a more versatile camera setup and faster processor, making it the best Android phone for the money.

But you also get a lot of phone for your money, including a telephoto zoom (reserved for Apple's $999 iPhone 12 Pro), a faster Snapdragon 888 chip and a dynamic 120Hz display. Once we're able to fully benchmark the Galaxy S21, run our battery test and compare the phone's cameras to the competition, I'll have a much better idea of how good this phone is. But right now it looks as though Samsung made most of the right trade-offs.

For such feature-packed phones, it's tough to form an early impression. But we do feel like it's a step forward for the Ultra and a side step for the other two in the family. Sure, the S21 and the S21+ both received a significant price reduction to be in line with the absence of some features and even the downgrades, but it still feels it's not enough. In a couple of months, the Galaxy S21 will be an excellent compact flagship at a lucrative price, while the Plus model will touch the Ultra size at a more manageable price as well.

Excellent appearance design , strong camera performance , excellent performance upgrades . At the beginning of 2021, the Samsung Galaxy S21 series set a high threshold. Of course, the outstanding hard power will definitely have continuous optimization follow-up. Regarding its game experience, shooting method, system optimization, we will conduct a series of in-depth evaluations in the follow-up.

Since it was a hands-on before the official launch, we had limited time and space to explore the Galaxy S21 series with. We used the time to better understand Director's View, a new feature joining Samsung's already pro-grade series of cameras and camera functionalities. In a nutshell, Director's View is a unique live-editing feature for video recording. It has three main components. There's a key video feed that takes up most of the recording and a picture-in-picture feed of the opposing, user-facing camera. Three other video feeds on the right allow the user to preview the look and feel coming from Samsung's other rear lenses running in real-time (called Live Thumbnail). Tapping on any of the three feeds would swap the main feed out for the other. In a completed recording, you actually do not see any of previews from other lenses - only the picture-in-picture feed and the main, world-facing footage remains.

Lisa Gade does a first look at the new Samsung Galaxy S21 and the S21 Ultra, 2 of 3 flagship Galaxy Android smartphones releasing in January 2021. The prices are $200 less than last year’s S20 family of phones, and there are again 3 sizes to choose from: the 6.2” S21, 6.7” S21+ and the 6.8” S21 Ultra. The phones sport a new design with a matte back, and run Android 11 with One UI 3.0 on the Snapdragon 888 in the US (Exynos 2100 is several other countries). The S21 Ultra supports the S Pen and has significantly improved cameras compared to the S20 Ultra. Our full review will come later, as will our review of the new Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro wireless ANC earbuds.

The Galaxy S21 series is trying to find its place in a world that’s still reeling from the pandemic. Naturally, even spending $799 on a base Galaxy S21 might be impossible now for some people who just a year ago may have dropped $999 on a new flagship just because they liked the way it looked.

At face value, the £769 S21 and the £949 S21+ might not have enough new features to warrant an upgrade. It really depends on what you're comparing it to; if you have an older Samsung model or a lesser flagship phone it probably makes more sense. However, if you have last year's S20, you're really just upgrading to a sleeker camera design and that new purple colour. This is a great new Galaxy, but it feels a lot like one we've already visited.

Samsung launched three different S21 models, but the specs showed off today were not a surprise: An extensive leak from Android Police gave almost the entire spec sheet for all three phones, and promotional slides released by tipster Evan Blass confirmed most of those details.

It's not that I find the S21 Ultra disappointing, it's that I'm having to work hard to find reasons to be excited. Perhaps some of that is down to Samsung's press briefings leaning too much on older features rather than outlining what's new, but I can't help but feel if they can't immediately grab the attention of a pro photographer who's also a committed tech obsessive (me) then how are they going to grab the attention of their paying customers?

With Samsung removing as much from this phone as it adds, I was prepared to be let down by the Galaxy S21. But I needn’t have worried. Sure, a plastic back isn’t ideal on a flagship phone but I soon got used to the polycarbonate, and the overall design of the Galaxy S21 is lovely, as well as more practical than the S20. The lack of any hardware upgrades for the cameras was a little disappointing, but then they still produce flagship-grade results and have a huge amount of features and tools to really dig into.

ARM Mali-G78 MP14:
