These are responses to a tweet I posted asking for feedback from Samsung Galaxy Fold owners – and, as a Galaxy Fold owner myself, the overwhelmingly positive sentiment of the responses came as no surprise. While most of the smartphones I’ve reviewed over the past year have been wonderful and competent in their own right … none of them has changed the way I use a phone, or altered my perception of what a phone should be. The Samsung Galaxy Fold has. So for Episode 3 of “Into The Fold,” I’m re-reviewing the Galaxy Fold for 2020, after five months of using it as MrMobile’s daily driver.

The Galaxy Fold feels like a phone from the future, and yet from a practical perspective it falls a bit short. When I was using Slack in one window, Gmail in another and Spotify in yet another on the 7.3-inch screen, I could see myself using my laptop less and a device like this more. I also liked being able to review and edit large documents on the go. And it’s just cool to close the whole thing up when you’re ready to walk way.

Even though the fact it folds is incredible, the Galaxy Fold is too bulky, breakable and expensive to recommend. The fact both screens are awkward sizes for most smartphone tasks means you have a delicate prototype of the possible future of phones.

It’s incredible that the Fold even exists and one day we might all be walking around with foldables in our pockets. But you should only be buying the Fold if you have enough cash to warrant the purchase and another phone to fall back on when day to day use annoys you so much you have to put it down.

I feel like it would work really well as a phone for older people, like my mum who likes to embarrass the crap outta her kids by using her tablet to take photos with as she can “see the screen and what she’s trying to photo better.” She also likes to use her tablet to read books, and the news on as she can make the font HUGE, and as life hack you can all try, when she cant read small print such as medicine bottles, she takes a photo and zooms in. With the added bonus of it (the Fold) also being phone. My grandmother saw it and asked if it was a phone and commented on how good the large screen would be for her. If only it wasn’t priced out of their range…

As a result, Samsung delayed the release of the Galaxy Fold and even canceled pre-orders. That was way back in April, which gives you an indication of how dramatic this delay has been for the company – a company that was hoping the Galaxy Fold would be a shot in the arm for 2019’s commercial fortunes.

As much as the Galaxy Fold is a look at what the next wave of smartphones might be, at this stage it’s hard to recommend that anyone, aside from those who simply must have the first-gen of everything, actually spend nearly £2000 on it. It’s impressive in a number of areas: great battery life, nice and productive software that actually makes some use of the bigger display and there are certain situations where having a tablet in smaller form-factor work.

The Galaxy Fold seems to be a step in the right direction. It is offering some new elements in the smartphone rather than adding on cosmetic changes which have become a norm in most of the smartphones launches nowadays. It has unfolded a new segment and going forward we might see consumers accepting it with open arms post the price correction because right now it is out of range for many consumers.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is a vision of the future wrought of metal and glass. The build quality surpasses anything that Samsung has made prior to this and the Infinity Flex screen is a beautiful representation of what will likely become commonplace in the future, offering unique use cases that blend the functionality of a phone and a tablet. There’s a few niggles here and there but they don’t detract from the Galaxy Fold’s next-generation design. If you’re looking for the most innovative phone currently available in the market and money is no object, the Galaxy Fold is it.

The groundwork is already there, and there are many things to look forward to. Most notably, in the case on the Galaxy Fold, One UI 2. Fingers crossed on that end. If you're OK with this kind of uncertainty about the future and if you are willing to live with some other compromises, like the lack of a headphone jack on the phone as humongous as the Fold or with a pretty sizeable notch biting into the futuristic foldable display. Or the fact that you might have to re-train a lot of your existing smartphone muscle memory and re-think some use cases and habits. If you are up for all that, then there might just be room in your life for the Fold. Just be sure not to dive into it headfirst unprepared.

This is a phone to flaunt because this is not a phone that is solving a problem that users have been bothered about for long. So you buy this phone to show the world you can afford what is the costliest smartphone around. Also, this is a phone that will make your work life easier, I wouldn’t say that about your other life because taking selfies for one, is not that easy here. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Fold seems quite robust for a device with one-of-its-kind bendable screen. However, it needs some polishing, especially with regard to its bendable screen and hinge mechanism, to become a better device that one could use as a daily driver. Until then, the phone looks more like a luxury device than a smartphone that makes life easy.

I’ve used the Galaxy Fold as my primary handset for ~4 weeks in and out of the country. After a quick whirl around the block, the ability to change the size of the display at will is growing on us with the small cover display being used for most notifications and quick calls and the larger display to enjoy content and gaming. After a few days, we’re even getting used to the weight and initial run-throughs even with heavy workloads still offer full-day battery life. Stay tuned for the full review when we put it through its paces! Ordinarily, I like to take at least a week - sometimes a little longer - using a smartphone as my daily-driver before penning a review. The desire for bigger and bigger screens continues, but phones like the Note10+ push the limits of what's practical. The prospect of a device with a variable size screen — particularly a very large screen that can become small enough to go in your pocket or handbag — is an exciting one, and the Galaxy Fold shows that it works.

A primary camera array made up of three lenses sits on the back of the device and can be used with the phone open or closed, while two forward-facing setups allow for selfies in either position too. The phone's software seamlessly extended apps from the front screen to the larger inner screen, although only certain supported apps will be able to go back the other way. Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is one of those devices that inspires adoration and annoyance at the same time. Its foldable design means you can carry around a tablet in your pocket and get plenty of work done along the way. The Fold’s power and flexibility nothing short of intoxicating, but as a commercial product, it leaves much to be desired. While closed, it’s chunky and clumsy, and we have serious concerns about how well its main screen will hold up over time -- our review unit's display developed dead and stuck pixels out of the blue, and we've seen a few other units with more pronounced blemishes. The Galaxy Fold offers a glimpse at the future of smartphones and gives Samsung a potent foundation to build on, but almost no one should consider buying one right now.

In closing, the best way I can put it is, you want to play with this phone, but you don’t want to live with it as your daily driver. If it lived on my coffee table, such as a tablet would, it’s ideal. However, as soon as you leave the couch and venture outside, you realize the world is a very dangerous place for the Galaxy Fold. Again, I hope Samsung only improves upon what they’ve done here because we’re on the right track.

Mystery, promises, waves upon waves of hype, a couple of releases, revisions, disappointment and success, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is a story which pretty much reads like a novel at this point. The Galaxy Fold is a truly impressive piece of technology. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the current flat screen phones we use today, and smartphone makers hope it's the way forward for an industry that has seen sales stumble as consumers hold onto their devices longer. At $1,980, though, the Fold is not a smartphone designed for the average consumer. This is the Bugatti of smartphones — it has over-the-top design and capabilities and it’s far too pricey for most people to enjoy. If you're the kind of person who finds $100 dollar bills in your pockets like most people find singles, then the Fold is for you. For everyone else, hold off until Samsung can make the technology in the Fold available in mainstream products.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold takes some getting used to. It’s a touch ungainly when closed due to the chunky thickness. You can definitely feel it in your pocket as you walk around. The weight and blockiness both contribute here. It looks a bit gangly when closed, as it’s so narrow and long. I wasn’t able to develop a real rhythm with it in the first day. When should I use it open? When should I use it closed? Which apps work best on the outer or inner screens? Should I multitask in several windows, or hop between full-screen apps? If there’s one app that was harder to figure out than others, it was the camera. The results of the first wave of photos I took didn’t exactly turn out as I assumed they would. This kind of knowledge will come with time as people fold the Fold into their daily routines.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Fold is very much a first-generation device. For the price you'd have to pay for one if you choose to, you'd be getting a completely unique experience and the undeniable appeal of a 7.3-inch tablet in your pocket, but we can't yet weigh in on how practical this device will be for everyday use. We weren't able to feel how it fits into a pocket, but at 17.1mm thick folded, it won't be convenient. At 276g, it is also far heavier than your average smartphone.

Undoubtedly, the Galaxy Fold is never going to sell in massive numbers based just on that asking price alone. Still, while it’s an luxury priced item, it’s also an indulgently fun one at first glance.

Having used both versions of the Galaxy Fold it does seem, at this early stage, like the issues should now be fixed. Whether other issues will arise once people have used the device for an extended period remains to be seen and is always possible with a first-gen product.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold ushers in an exciting new mobile form factor. It may have its negatives, which for some will rightly be a deal-breaker, but for those seeking the latest in cutting-edge technology the Fold should be top of your list.

Its inward folding design lets the user fold the large 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display into a much smaller form factor. However, it places great stress on the seam. Would it be able to withstand being folded many times a day? Would it break into half, like a paper clip that has been unfolded and folded too many times?

In the Galaxy Fold, Samsung has created a really compelling first foldable device. We came away from our time with it wanting more, not worried about its issues at all. Having seen the 'fixed' device, we're now excited again to see what this device brings in real world use.

This isn’t like the iPhone in 2007 when it was immediately obvious that all phones would end up looking like it. Samsung has made the Galaxy Fold because it can, not because it should. It means the Fold feels like a device that will end up limiting in practice despite the larger internal screen, particularly with the outside screen that is so user hostile. The design is revolutionary, of that there is no doubt. But it could be at the expense of everyday usability and affordability – this is a luxury device at a luxury price. That's a particularly big risk in the wake of well-publicised durability issues with the first wave of devices, and no guarantees that all the problems have been fixed. Until we review it fully, the Galaxy Fold looks like a tantalising example of where personal computing might go – but it is not there yet, and maybe this isn’t exactly what it should look like.

The Galaxy Fold is what can happen when you try to be first to market with a new innovation. It’s not accurate to say that the Galaxy Fold was rushed, as Samsung says this design was 8 years in the making. But it is fair to say that Samsung didn’t spend enough time doing quality control testing with real users.

Samsung Galaxy Fold is a phenomenal first foray into folding smartphones. It has a gorgeous, pliable 7.3-inch AMOLED display that makes reading ebooks, playing mobile games, and bingeing Game Of Thrones an absolute pleasure. Being able to carry around a small tablet in your pocket feels truly transformative. Granted, we're not sold on everything about the design – it's thick, and you can feel the crease as you run your fingertip across the display. However, the Galaxy Fold is ambitious and feels like it could completely change smartphone design in years to come. If you're willing to put up with some of its charmingly clunky first-generation foibles, this really is the future.

I spent about an hour playing with the Galaxy Fold during a Samsung briefing event in London and while I don’t think it does everything right, it has certainly got me excited about the uses foldable phones can offer – even if this does feel like a true first-gen product. We should point out we did not have long enough to confirm reports of breaking screens ourselves.

There’s no doubt that the Galaxy Fold shows us the future of mobile devices, where we could have a tablet masquerading as a phone in our pockets. However, it’s not perfect at the moment, and Samsung has delayed the launch in order to fix the problems with the Fold. We believe Samsung was so focused on the complexities of folding a display and putting it in the hands of consumers that it lost sight of the basics and overall quality control somewhere along the way.

It's rather easy with the Fold - if you want to own the next big thing on the mobile market in spite of its hefty price, many caveats, and potential issues lurking within - you either buy the Galaxy Fold or the Mate X. It's up to you to decide which folding form factor you like better. The Fold is like a prototype device you can buy a few months (or years) before its completely ready and it will show you a glimpse of the future. Perfect it is not. But a perfect show off it truly is.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is one of those devices that inspires adoration and annoyance at the same time. Its foldable design means you can carry around a tablet in your pocket and get plenty of work done along the way. Even after our testing was complete, we still found the Fold’s power and flexibility nothing short of intoxicating. As a commercial product, though, it leaves much to be desired. While closed, it’s chunky and clumsy, and we have serious concerns about how well its main screen will hold up over time. The Galaxy Fold offers a glimpse at the future of smartphones, but almost no one should consider buying one.

The Galaxy Fold is a status symbol for people who want to be on the cutting edge of phones. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're someone who travels a lot and like the idea of accessing a big screen whenever you want it, the Galaxy Fold could be worth the splurge. Depending on how you work, the Fold may even replace your laptop for short stretches.

I quite enjoyed my time with the Galaxy Fold and it did indeed feel like the future of mobile devices. However, it would be an understatement to say these issues are a bit concerning. Swarms of people have already pre-ordered the device set to launch on April 26, and we’re eager to hear if these issues are widespread before we can recommend the device.

But the Galaxy Fold is also a foldable phone that actually works as you’d expect it to, which is nothing short of miraculous given that it was only unveiled a few months ago. There's certainly a dumb pun that involves folding and wrapping waiting for us somewhere in there, but let's spare ourselves the embarrassment. Perhaps the lesson from the first folding phone will be about the value of making devices smaller. Instead of doing origami on a tablet, imagine folding in half the phone you already own. "I don't just want bigger screens, I want being smart with the screens you have," Milanesi said. Welcome back, flip phones.

Samsung spent eight years developing the Galaxy Fold. Still, there are questions about durability. Samsung is trying to remove a crease that appears on the protective film above the screen after it's been folded about 10,000 times, Bloomberg News reported last month. The company has since released footage of machines repeatedly opening and closing the phone in what it dubbed an “extremity test” to assert its durability.

Samsung was right years ago about the trend toward larger-screen phones, which not that long ago we used to jokingly call "phablets." The Fold combats the distressing trend of people needing handles, like those stick-on circular PopSockets, just to firmly grip their phones. If it catches on, the Fold could be the beginning of an era where big phones really are just tablets. Perhaps the lesson from the first folding phone will be about the value of making devices smaller. Instead of doing origami on a tablet, imagine folding in half the phone you already own. Overall the device is far more polished and stable than I expected, both in terms of hardware and software. Android Pie and Samsung’s One UI seem to handle the Fold’s multiple displays with ease, the camera performance is top notch, and in general, the Fold feels well-made, despite its noticeable bulk. Still, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that the Fold is an incredibly pricey smartphone. While Canadian carriers and the final price haven’t officially been confirmed by Samsung yet, the Fold will likely cost somewhere in the $2,600 CAD ($1,980 USD) range.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is a bleeding-edge example of new technologies that is stunning on first glance. It is better than a prototype, but it’s also very much a first-generation device. We’re not sure whether to call it a smartphone or a tablet. The display on the outside of the Fold is comically poky and it doesn't fold flat but the inside is where the party’s at: that unfolded 7.3in OLED is stunning. But there is a notch and an always noticeable crease and bump. Spending this much money on the Galaxy Fold instead of a smartphone is like buying a first-class train ticket. It’s a fancier seat, but the experience is basically the same as everyone else’s and it’ll cost you two or three times as much.

I wished I had more time to play with the Fold, because it felt like a device straight from the future. I was quite surprised by how refined everything felt for a first-generation product, including the software that Samsung has worked on directly with Google. Seeing a smartphone display fold and unfold in your hands is really something else, and I feel the Galaxy Fold is totally worth the asking price. In fact, I’m regretting my decision to buy the 1TB Galaxy S10+ after my Galaxy Fold hands-on; it’s that good!

The last two weeks have been incredible for phones. Life-changing, even. First, Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold, its first foldable phone. Then, Huawei let us go hands-on with its foldable Mate X, which made the foldable phone concept so much more real. But for me, the Galaxy Fold is still the one that started it all, and the one that has me so intrigued. It didn't help that the only real-life glimpse we got of it was behind exceptionally reflective glass.

Qualcomm Adreno 640:
