The Reno2 Z is primarily aimed at those who desire a premium experience on a budget. The price is still on the higher side if you take into account phones like the Redmi Note 8 Pro and the Realme X2, but for that extra premium, you get a design that’s both easy to use and nice to look at. More than that, the camera performance will please any casual photographer while amateur mobile gamers will find gaming on this smartphone quite delightful. Overall, the Reno2 Z may not be the best performer in this segment, but it still manages to offer a hassle-free, premium experience.

The Reno2 Z is everything the previous model was and then some. It’s better where it counts, distinguishes itself from the competition in some key ways and it manages to provide more than enough value to stand out in a post-Pixel 3a world of mid-tier phones. In an alternative timeline where Google's budget phone didn't force the world to re-calibrate what smartphone photography at this price-point can look like, the Reno2 Z would be a slam dunk for the year's best mid-tier device.

At £329, the Reno 2Z is never going to match up to handsets costing two or even three times the amount, but it holds its own against phones of a similar price. There’s a big, colorful, high-quality AMOLED display present, along with a shiny metal-and-glass finish that catches the eye, and extremely fast charging, which is not something you see on phones of similar value. While it’s not aimed at mobile gaming, the Reno 2Z is a stylish, reliable phone that is perfect for viewing content on.

Only five months after the Oppo Reno Z was launched in the UK, the Chinese company has launched the second generation: the Reno 2 Z. While it’s not a complete redesign of the budget-friendly smartphone, the quad-cameras, improved internals and large battery make this a great incremental update.

Just after my review of the Oppo Reno was published I was invited to the launch of version 2, having checked that these items would be available for review without a long wait I journeyed to East London for the launch event held in Canning Town.

At Rs 29,990, the Oppo Reno2 Z seems to be an expensive smartphone that does not justify its midrange premium tag. Though the phone has a sturdy build, good ergonomics, plush design, feature-rich cameras and good on-battery time, its mediocre performance and cluttered user interface hamper the overall user experience. In the sub-Rs 30,000 price band, the Oppo Reno2 Z does not match other premium midrange phones like the OnePlus 7, Asus 6z and Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro, which deliver better user experience and have good combination of specifications and features, too.

Summarizing the photo performance of Reno 2Z, you can see that its level is not bad. The advantage of glare photography is that the white balance is excellent and the color expression is more accurate. The advantage of night scene shooting is that the screen brightness is good, and the highlight control is at the upstream level. However, its photographs are not perfect. The main problem may be that the screen under HDR function is not good, and there will be a slight color cast during night shooting, especially in the case of extremely low light.

The Reno 2Z feels like a complete smartphone. Oppo has not only paid attention to design, but has also made sure the phone doesn't feel underwhelming. While it may not offer a Snapdragon 855-level performance that you would find with the Redmi K20 Pro and OnePlus 7, the Reno 2Z can still manages to hold its own. If you can deal with ColorOS and its bloatware, I don't see why you shouldn't consider the Reno 2Z under Rs 30,000.

All things considered, the Oppo Reno 2Z is a nice smartphone. The phone has a beautiful design and treads well on the camera-performance, speed, and gameplay. The Reno 2Z is exceptionally good at video recording, battery backup, charging speed, and sound quality. The only drawback of the phone is its display. Oppo Reno 2Z competes with the likes of OnePlus 7, Asus 6Z, and Vivo V17 Pro in the under Rs 30,000 price segment. The competition is obviously tough but with its wholesome package, the Reno 2Z is not a bad choice.

This isn't a flagship phone, but like the Reno 2, the Z model will get you most of the way there. And for an astonishingly good price. That's the real take-away of the Z: you're getting a heck of a lot for your money, so it's easily recommendable on account of that.

But for pure base-level substance, it doesn’t quite match the Pixel 3A range. Those phones have better GPUs, for smoother performance in high-end games, and a more consistent camera. However, for many, these benefits may be outweighed by the Oppo Reno 2 Z’s big, colourful screen. This phone is an absolute treat for movie streaming, so let’s hope it gets certified for HD Netflix streaming soon.

The OPPO A5 2020 is a smartphone made for the casual users out there. It doesn’t have any major flaws but it doesn’t offer what you pay for. There are smartphones like Realme 5 Pro, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Vivo Z1 Pro which offer much better specs at the same price range. If you are looking for a smartphone for playing PUBG or some other heavy games ignore this one. On the other hand, if you are looking for a smartphone that comes with good speakers so you can enjoy watching videos and multitask easily then you can go for the OPPO A5 2020.

The Reno 2Z is among the three smartphones Oppo has just launched in the new Reno 2 series. This device is well designed and packs a quad-camera setup. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P90 SoC and we like the fact that it has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Color OS also offers a good experience and has features that we found to be useful, even though it can be improved with some bloatware control.

Commentaire
Imagination PowerVR GM9446:
