Critiques pour le/la Nokia Lumia Icon

The Lumia Icon’s overall strong performance might be enough to persuade potential buyers to snap it up. Though, the Icon has a number of additional attractive features that may catch a consumer’s fancy such as well, like the bright, crisp full HD display with beveled edges, or the excellent (for a smartphone) 20MP camera that offers plenty of manual controls and relatively high picture and video quality.

The Nokia Icon is a wonderful Windows Phone device, which is well designed and great to use. It could be a strong phone if you like the OS in general, or if your activities are very much focused on email, mobile photography, web browsing — plus other apps that you need. At a price point of $199 (with contract) to $550 (without contract), there is plenty of very worthy competitors that run on a similar hardware platform. Of course Nokia has a slight advantage when compared to others, thanks to an impressive display and camera, but it’s really about how you want to use it.

The Nokia Lumia Icon is probably the best Windows Phone around at the moment: it bests the Lumia 1020 in every major respect except looks and camera skills, boasts quad-core power and a fantastic screen. And it isn’t even particularly pricey. That being said, the spec is just a little bit "best of 2013", we have little doubt the coming 2014 crop of new Windows smartphones from Nokia and elsewhere may surpass it on specs and design. And that means, in the end, that the lack of availability on this side of the pond may end up being only a fleeting loss.

Nokia now has Windows Phone devices with internal specs matching the leading smartphones. They take it further with their advanced camera, fantastic display, and more and the Lumia Icon is an excellent smartphone to consider.

The Lumia Icon is almost the best Lumia smartphone to date. The only thing holding it back is that the Lumia 1020 has a better camera and the Lumia 925 has a better body. Still, it's in the elite company of being a Windows Phone that I could actually see myself using on a daily basis. Were it not for my reliance on Google services, there would be very little to complain about. Windows Phone's shortcomings have been chipped away at a slow pace, but there are fewer reasons to take issue than there have been in the past.

While the Nokia Lumia Icon for Verizon remains the best Windows Phone we've tested in 2014, noticeable shutter lag and a nagging lack of applications still hold it back. Owning a Windows Phone, however, still feels like living a year or so behind the rest of the market. If you’re an app fiend, you’d still be better off buying an iPhone or Android phone, which dependably receive third-party apps. But the Icon and Lumia 1520 are clearly the best Windows Phones on the market. Deciding between them simply depends on which size you prefer.

You could accuse Nokia and Verizon of tempting fate, hopping off the traditional numbered Lumia naming scheme and giving their new phone an ambitious title like Icon. To do so invites all manner of comparisons, and while Nokia's Icon may be one of its more beautifully crafted phones, little things like over-badging, some glitches in how the camera performs, and the overall bulk mean it's not quite ready for sainthood. As with any good icon, then, the Lumia Icon can't simply show up and expect to be worshipped. Nokia will need to make sure the sales staff out in stores are proselytizing its message if it wants what's a great smartphone to get the attention it both needs and deserves.

The Nokia Lumia Icon is definitely a more grown-up Windows Phone, more austere than earlier Lumias in appearance but just as powerful. And that’s part of the problem. The Icon features almost all the same specs as the larger 6-inch Lumia 1520, but at a more palatable 5-inch screen size. Other than that size reduction and the gradual improvement to the Windows Phone app store, there’s really nothing extra that helps it live up to its name.

As I mentioned earlier, the Lumia Icon features a quad-core processor, and the smartphone handled all tasks without a problem. Call quality was clear, though the audio can be piercing if you have the volume set on high, as I painfully found out. I didn’t run a formal battery test on the phone, but with moderate usage I was able to go a full day before needing to recharge. Like many of Nokia’s high-end smartphones, the Lumia Icon supports wireless charging. The Lumia Icon is undoubtedly the best Windows Phone device in Verizon’s lineup. But Nokia and Microsoft will need to come up with something more interesting and iconic to convince consumers to switch to the platform.

When Nokia came out with the Lumia 1520, we were treated to a new side of Windows Phone. The Lumia Icon is the solid high-end Windows Phone that we've wanted for a long time. It has an amazing display, great performance and solid imaging capability, but its exclusivity to Verizon will severely limit its appeal.

The Nokia Icon has everything we're looking for in a Windows Phone. You get a brilliant AMOLED display, a premium (albeit somewhat hefty) design, and fast performance. Plus, the Icon's 20-MP camera lets you get very creative with your photography, both while snapping shots and afterwards. We also appreciate the noise reduction made possible by the four mics.
