The Nokia Lumia 530 is one of the last few phones that the company itself has made, and its solid build quality is clear evidence of that fact. It's not the flashiest, speediest or greatest phone around, but for around £80, it's cheap as chips and if you're a Windows Phone fan, it's not terrible. The Motorola Moto E offers plenty more bang for your buck at the same price range though, making Nokia's bright effort a wasted opportunity. Let's see if Microsoft has better budget blowers planned for the future.

Deciding here comes down to simplicity versus flexibility. The One Touch phones run Android, which has a much broader range of third-party applications than the 530 can support. But Android has a slightly messier, slightly more complex UI than the extremely simple Windows Phone, and the Evolve's voice call quality wasn't as good in our tests as the Lumia 530's. That makes the Lumia 530 a better bet for casual users without a lot of coin.

It’s not the nicest phone in the world, but it’s not meant to be. It’s meant to allow you access to apps, texting and phone calls, the internet, and acceptably photos and video. With a 5-megapixel camera at its back and no camera up front, you’re working with the basics. Is it worth the cash you pay for it? Yes, it really is. But remember - this is the sort of phone that you buy because you’re saving up for a far, far nicer phone.

If Nokia had just improved the 520 specs across the board then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this, but it has actually taken two steps forward and one step back with the 530. These compromises are all about delivering the lowest price possible and the 530 is astoundingly cheap, but the budget bracket has grown a lot more competitive in the last year.

When shopping for a Windows phone there are some obvious caveats you need to be aware of. While the Windows Store has improved a lot from its previous iterations, it still lacks the variety and quality you’ll find in the Android and iOS app stores. Even the user interface is not as refined, which might come as a surprise if you are an Android or iOS user. However, there are benefits of owning a Windows phone too, some of which outshine what Android and iOS devices currently provide. For starters, you get the full Microsoft Office suite free of cost, a free music streamer that lets you download songs for offline use, and Maps that allows you to download maps to use offline.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is a good phone for under £90, but now that the Lumia 630's SIM-free price has come down to roughly £110, we think that choosing the Lumia 530 over its big brother is a bit of a false economy. While it's very similar to the Lumia 630, we'd rather pay the extra £20 for a better screen and a longer battery life. If Nokia lowered the Lumia 530's price in the future, we might bump it up a star, but for now the Lumia 630 remains our budget Windows phone of choice.

The sub-£100 price of the Nokia Lumia 530 makes it difficult to ignore, but the performance makes it difficult to fully recommend. Priced as it is, the Lumia 530 is one of the cheapest smartphones around and it has plenty to offer. If you're looking for something to keep you in touch, plus some apps and connectivity thrown in too, then it may be well suited. Overall the Nokia Lumia 530 is cute, well designed and cheap, but not without its problems.

The Nokia Lumia 530 is a phone that saddens us. Last year, Nokia re-established itself as a great force in budget phones with mobiles like the Lumia 520 and Lumia 620. The Nokia Lumia 530 cuts out every little extra, streamlines every feature to save money. But it does so to too great a degree, offering a worse experience than either its now-cheaper predecessor or the many Android alternatives.

At the moment the Lumia 530 Dual SIM is available for around Rs. 6,500 at many e-commerce outlets. The price is low for a phone that can provide a decent smartphone experience, but unfortunately the Moto E, the Xiaomi Redmi 1S and the Asus Zenfone 4 all provide better smartphone experiences at the same price. Buy this phone only if you want a really cheap device running Windows Phone 8.1. The Lumia 630 and the Lumia 520 have seen price drops and are also available for less than Rs. 10,000. Those two older devices are better options if you don't mind spending only a little bit more.

With its insanely appealing price, and excellent performance, the Lumia makes an attractive option in the sub-£50 smartphone market. The 530 will undercut almost everything else on the market. For the money, it's also excellent value, but represents a relative downgrade for Lumia 520 owners, who get a much better screen, more storage and a better camera.

For the money, we’re really impressed by what Nokia’s produced in the Lumia 530. If you want a no-fuss, user-friendly phone that can get online and do all your usual smartphoney functions, and even play games, this seems to be a great choice.

It’s too early to give a definitive verdict on which smartphone is better, but it’s almost certainly not worth buying a 530 if you already have a 520. We’ll bring you a full review of the 530 when we can get our hands on one, and we’ll update this comparison review as well.

Choosing between the Nokia Lumia 530 and Motorola Moto E is difficult. I'm a seasoned Android user, but I like what I see in Windows Phone 8.1. And without that tired old Windows Phone lacks apps argument (the Motorola Moto E doesn't have enough built-in storage to take full advantage of what Google Play and third-party developers have to offer), there is nothing that you might expect of a budget smartphone that either Windows Phone or Android are unable to do. In many respects these two phones are very evenly matched. The Motorola Moto E stands out for its display, while the Nokia Lumia 530 is the winner on the storage front. And the Lumia 530 absolutely wins on the pricing - you cannot argue at £60.

Despite being cheaper we don't think the Nokia Lumia 530 has what it takes to knock the Motorola Moto G from its budget smartphone throne. It has a lower hardware specs across the board and even though Windows Phone 8.1 includes many improvements, Android is still superior.

Qualcomm Adreno 302:
