Even a year after its launch, the Motorola Edge 40 manages to hold up well with its clean software, curved display and slim design. It is one of the few phones with an IP68 rating, NFC and wireless charging support in this range, which is usually found on flagship phones.Smartphone deals However, you will need to deal with poor battery backup, average cameras and a mediocre chipset that is best suited for day-to-day tasks. If you want a slim and lightweight phone without splurging a lot of money, then the Edge 40 makes a lot of sense, especially if you can get it during a sale.Smartphone deals Although the market has changed significantly in the past year, competitors like the Nothing Phone (2a), Motorola Edge 50 Pro, OnePlus Nord 4 and the Poco F6 offer much better specifications at a similar price.Smartphone deals

Overall, the photos are really great. I like them very much. They have intense colours, although sometimes it may happen that Motorola exaggerates a bit and enhances the reality too much. However, when I enlarged the photos and looked at them more closely, I realized that they were simply beautiful, perhaps even a little oversaturated, but in a very pleasant way. If we have a blue sky, it is really blue, but not overcoloured or dyed into any other colours. The same goes for grass, trees and other elements of nature - they are just beautiful, green, but not too much, as if someone had marked them with bright office highlighters.

OK — so what’s the final word on the Motorola Edge (2023)? Did Motorola knock it out of the park and create a phone you should buy instead of the Google Pixel 8? As with everything in life, it’s a bit complicated. If you can buy the Motorola Edge at its discounted $500 price, I think there’s a really solid argument in the phone’s favor. At $200 cheaper than the Pixel 8, the Edge (2023) delivers a really solid smartphone experience — so long as you don’t mind some occasional performance issues and a lackluster camera. But if we’re looking at the Motorola Edge (2023) as a $600 smartphone, I don’t think the $100 in savings is enough to justify buying it over the Pixel 8. For folks who can afford it, there’s no denying that the Google Pixel 8 is the better overall choice. In fact, it’s one of the very best smartphones you can get right now.

The Motorola Edge 40 is a pleasant-to-use mid-range smartphone that can compete with the likes of the Pixel 7a and the Galaxy A54. The only thing I would really like to improve on this model is the battery life, which is enough for almost 1.5 days of use, but it is always nice to have more charge in reserve.

And finally, let’s summarise all the differences between the Edge 40 and its Pro version. So, the Edge 40 Pro has a top-end Qualcomm processor, 12 GB of RAM (+3 GB due to flash memory), a slot for two physical SIMs, a triple rear camera (50+50+13 megapixels), more powerful charging (125 W) and reversible charging, a flash for the front camera, a slightly larger battery, a larger screen size, and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. But the difference in price, as you remember, is more than twofold. Whether all these goodies are worth another $400 is up to everyone to decide for themselves. But against the background of the model labelled Pro, the Edge 40 looks like a more balanced solution.

The Motorola Edge 40 is a competent and powerful premium mid-range Motorola phone. It has a couple of flaws, most notably the average cameras, and it’s also likely to be a victim of Motorola’s inconsistent software update policy, but it’s available far more widely than the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, and at a more attractive price.

The Motorola Edge 40 is for those who want to venture into premium design territory without breaking the bank. Yet while it looks the part, it’s made a few compromises – particularly in the camera array – to keep the same $699 price tag as its predecessor. All up, you still score plenty of premium features at a mid-range price point, with the added bonus of a longer battery life and IP68 ruggedness to help protect your investment. It’s a solid mid-range handset but, if your sights are set a little higher, wait to see what else the Edge 40 range delivers in the months ahead.

The Motorola Edge 40 step up in positioning over the Motorola Edge 30, instead looking more like an update of the Edge 30 Fusion. This makes it closer to the flagship Edge 40 Pro, which is perhaps reflected in the asking price. At this price, it's designed to undercut flagship phones without too many compromises in performance - and in reality, there aren't too many compromises. This phone runs smooth, charges fast and puts in a good showing for itself. If you're looking for a compact smartphone offering great performance, then it's certainly worth considering the Edge 40. The camera isn't at the top of its game, but for most people I think it will cater to their needs. Aligned alongside the Moto Edge 40 Pro - and then the Razr 40 models - Motorola has a great selection of phones for 2023.

The Motorola Edge 40 is one of the slickest phones in its segment and its exterior appearance can be reason enough to purchase the handset. Barring the Realme 11 Pro series, no phone is even close to touching the Edge 40’s physical elegance. Apart from that the device doesn’t shy away in the display, software, and durability department as well. Good luck finding a device that has IP68 rating, wireless charging capabilities, and one of the cleanest UIs for under Rs 30,000. However, no phone is without compromise and I do wish that the phone could curtail its heating issues and offer a slightly better battery life. Even so, if you are to look past these niggles, the Motorola Edge 40 gets my nod as a compelling offering in the mid-range segment.

The Motorola Edge 40 offers great value for money, particularly for those who prioritise productivity and aesthetics. However, if you're a heavy gamer, I would recommend considering alternatives such as the Poco F5 or iQOO Neo 7, which performed better in benchmarks. It's commendable to see that Motorola is striving to bring something new with each iteration of the Edge series, and the Edge 40 certainly embodies that change. As I mentioned earlier, its inclusion of features like a curved display, OIS-enabled super-slim design, fast charging, 5G capability, the latest Android version, 256GB storage, and wireless charging under Rs 30,000 sets it apart from its many competitors. Nevertheless, it's important to remember the challenges that come with handling a super-slim phone, including potential durability issues.

Motorola is generating some serious buzz for its smartphones, all because they’re giving the users what they want. A clean software experience, stylish and lightweight design, dependable performance, and fast charging to name a few. The Motorola Edge 40 is my favourite mid-range all-rounder so far this year. Not because of its performance chops – there are faster performers – but because it offers users a holistic experience with very few compromises.

The Motorola Edge 40 packs some capable hardware wrapped in a curvy, sleek body that screams premium from a distance. The handset offers an excellent in-hand feel, great multimedia experience and relatively good performance. The software too, is quite feature-rich and clean. The Edge 40 also delivers some features which are unheard of in the segment such as an IP68 rating, a 144Hz pOLED curved-edge display, and wireless charging. However, the cameras definitely need more work. While the hardware and features seem solid on paper, Motorola needs to work on optimising them further for that competitive edge. If you want an all-rounder smartphone under Rs. 30,000 and are willing to compromise a bit on the cameras, the the Motorola Edge 40 can be considered. We feel that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G (Review) and the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G (Review) offer slightly better camera performance. For sheer raw processing power, you can certainly consider the Poco F5 (Review).

The Motorola Edge 40 has a dual-camera setup on the back. It features a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.47 aperture, which is the widest in the segment. Theoretically, it should help capture more light while maintaining a fast shutter speed. There is also a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera with autofocus, which means it can be used to shoot macro images as well. In addition to this, the Edge 40's rear camera setup can shoot portrait mode images at 24mm, 35mm and 50mm. We'll be testing how well these features actually work in the full review. Under the hood, there is a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 SoC which is based on a 6nm fabrication process. The device comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage in India.

Buy an Edge 40 from Motorola’s online store and it’ll set you back significantly more than either a Google Pixel 7a, Nothing Phone 1 or Samsung Galaxy A54. You’d think that would leave it stranded in a smartphone no-man’s land, but if certain features are high on your wish list it might be easy enough to justify the extra outlay. It charges much faster than a Pixel 7a, using a charger that’s included in the box. It has better water resistance than the Phone 1, and has more gaming grunt than an A54. Go with Motorola though and you give up Google’s superior set of cameras, Nothing’s unique glyph lighting and Samsung’s expandable storage. You’re still getting a capable pair of cameras, a powerful mid-tier CPU that runs Android very smoothly, and a gorgeous display, all wrapped up in a slim, lightweight chassis. Ultimately, it’s just nice to even have the choice.

Is there place in the market for the Motorola Edge 40? We'd say there is — we fell in love with it just for its design. The clean Android experience with just a pinch of Motorola optimization is always a great thing to experience and has its fans for a reason (admittedly, we hope the small bugs we experienced will be ironed out or were just an offshoot). The camera definitely falls in the "good enough" category — yes the oversharpening can be annoying and getting the exposure right is sometimes a slight minigame in its own right. Key word here — sometimes. We feel confident in rocking the Motorola Edge 40 as a daily driver and wouldn't mind taking shots for memorabilia or social media with it.

The Motorola Edge 40 stands out in the mid-range market not only due to its thin, lightweight design and unique vegan leather rear that completely covers the camera housing, but the experience it delivers. The curved 6.55-inch display is great for binge-watching with pOLED tech delivering vivid colours and inky blacks, and the 144Hz refresh rate is among the fastest around. It’s just a shame that there’s no auto refresh rate option that goes as far as 144Hz, instead only offering a fixed 144Hz refresh rate that can drain the battery. However, it’s the camera offering, and the new main 50MP snapper in particular, that stands out among much of the mid-range competition. Rivalled only by the Pixel 7a in my mind, the 50MP snapper delivers plenty of detail, great dynamic range and vivid colours, and it’s equally as capable in low-light conditions thanks to its impressively wide f/1.4 aperture.

The Edge 40's price may have you raising your eyebrows at first glance - €500-600 sounds like a lot for a midranger, and side-by-side comparisons with rivals often end with the Moto losing the price battle. But it's more nuanced than that since the Edge 40 offers a feature set and performance quite unlike the rest, and it's possibly worth the premium. The chipset, for one, is among the most potent options on this side of a truly flagship SoC and the Edge 40 extracts excellent results from it both in terms of performance and stability. The Moto is also no slouch when it comes to battery level, and the class-leading charging speed doesn't hurt either. The smoother-than-most 144Hz display is also among the brightest in the class, and the stereo speakers are both loud and easy on the ear.

Motorola Edge 40 unboxing and hands-on review including a camera test, gaming with Genshin Impact and a full specs/features tour. The Moto Edge 40 is almost £300 cheaper vs the Pro version here in the UK, yet sports some respectable camera tech, dependable performance and some slick design. So is this one of the best mid-range stock Android smartphones? Well, the Motorola Edge 40 will have stiff competition in the Pixel 7a next week, alongside rivals like the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G. That camera is dependable as long as it's not too dark, but is it a Pixel beater? Unlikely. But the Moto Edge 40 can blaze through games like Genshin, while the pOLED display is a 144Hz stunner. I like Motorola's clean UI, as well as the skinny design (even if it is a 6.55-inch phone). Sadly there's no headphone jack or expandable storage, and for battery life there's better options.

The Motorola Edge 40 looks to stand out from the competition not only with its impressively slim and lightweight design but the unique vegan leather rear that completely covers the camera housing. It’s not for everyone, but the added grip makes it easier to wield the 6.55-inch phone one-handed, and it won’t slip off tables either. The cameras, particularly that fast 50MP main snapper, look promising, especially at a £529 price point. That’s backed up by a relatively snappy mid-range processor, a 144Hz pOLED display with HDR10+ certification and 68W fast charging tech that could make the Edge 40 the mid-ranger to go for in 2023, but I’ll reserve judgement for the final review in the coming days.

This makes it closer to the flagship Edge 40 Pro, which is perhaps reflected in the asking price. At this price, it's designed to undercut flagship phones without too many compromises in performance. The performance of the Dimensity 8020 is still something of an unknown and we'll be fully testing it to give you a definitive verdict as soon as we can. The Motorola Edge 40 is available now in the UK for £529 and in Europe. A US launch of an equivalent device is expected in the near future.

ARM Mali-G77 MP9:
Carte graphique intégrée basée sur l'architecture Valhall. Utilise 9 des 16 clusters possibles et, selon ARM, offre des performances et une efficacité 30% supérieures à celles d'un Mali-G76.
