Critiques pour le/la MSI Wind U135
UpWind? The Wind models were counted to the pioneers of the unyielding netbook trend, beside the Eee PCs from Asus. It's no wonder then, that MSI offers fitting models a short time after the release of Intel's Pine Trail platform. The Wind U135 presents itself as a classic plain netbook at an especially attractive price. The netbook is allegedly available for starting at 299 euro.

Affordable netbooks cannot get any cheaper than the MSI range of mini laptops. The new MSI U135 is a 10 inch laptop that replaces their older 10’ inch laptop series. Though the dimension remain the same, the newest features include an Intel’s Atom N450 1.66GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 160GB of hard disk space. Due to the efficient, low power consuming atom processor, the battery life for this laptop is above average and is impressive for true mobility.

The MSI U135 is one of the cheapest options here, so if the screen, camera or card reader appeal it's still worth considering. But, if you don't need those particular features, the Asus 1005PE offers longer battery life and a more stable design at a similar price.

The MSI Wind U135 usually costs about $330 and it’s a good value at that price. But at $305 the netbook is even more attractive. It combines a good keyboard with Intel’s Atom N450 processor which offers more than enough power for casual computer users who don’t need to watch HD video or edit enormous images in Photoshop.

The MSI Wind has been one of our favourite netbooks since we first saw the Wind U100 back in 2008. Two years on and MSI hasn’t messed with the formula too much for the new Wind U135 and with the lid closed, you can’t tell the two models apart. The MSI Wind U135 is a solid, long-lasting netbook, but it doesn’t make quite the same impact as the original U100 did and equally excellent models are available for less.

The MSI Wind U135 certainly has its flaws. We don’t like the fact that MSI still doesn’t trust its consumers to swap out the RAM module or hard drive without voiding the warranty. Most other manufacturers provide access panels to make this easy, yet MSI still don’t want you meddling inside the system. This means you’re stuck with 1GB RAM and a HDD unless you’re not bothered about the warranty. Since many consumers like to upgrade RAM or install a SDD into their netbooks I really hope this is a stance that MSI changes soon.

The flood of netbooks appearing on the market is showing no signs of abating and the MSI U135 is one of the latest. With a new Atom at its heart, the new Wind U135 netbook packs in the features. The MSI Wind U135 is a good netbook that ticks all the right boxes, with very little to fault. If you are in the market for a new machine, this is certainly worth considering.

Using the MSI Wind U135 is a pleasure when it comes to typing, except for the irritation of that small right-hand shift key - we often found we hit the neighbouring up arrow, moving the cursor into the line above when typing. Still, we otherwise appreciate the quality of the keyboard given that this is a relatively affordable device. Poor sound is a bit of a surprise, detracting from what are otherwise fairly typical specs for a standard netbook.

MSI's Wind U135 may be a very affordable netbook using the new Intel Atom N450 processor, GMA 3150 graphics, Windows 7 Starter OS and a sizable hard drive but the system has enough quirks that leave it a step behind the competition. The biggest problem is with the battery life that is well below other netbooks in this class with six-cell batteries. This may not be a huge factor for those on tight budgets but something to consider.

The MSI Wind series is well established as one of the finest, most progressive netbook ranges in the industry. The MSI Wind U135, like the rest of the netbooks in the Wind series, doesn't disappoint. Despite its relatively mediocre performance, it's the sort of netbook that's perfectly usable on a day-to-day basis, thanks to its excellent keyboard and lengthy battery life

If you're just now starting to look for a netbook, however, the U135 will serve your needs well. It won't blow away any expectations, but it probably won't let you down, either. The real questions are whether you should wait for a netbook with USB 3.0 and / or Bluetooth 3.0, or whether you should look into getting into another class of device entirely. The tablet is poised to take off this year according to some, and while an on-screen keyboard definitely isn't ideal, neither is a cramped one that's shoved into the frame of a 10" netbook.

MSI's Wind U135 is a middle-of-the-road notebook encompassing the latest technology from Intel in a stylish design. The problem is that the U135 is usurped by its little sibling, the U130. If you want a fancy exterior the U135 is great but, given the lack of technical differences between the two, we'd recommend saving the £50 and going for the U130

The MSI Wind Millions Special Edition U135 is a sleek and comfortable MSI netbook that commemorates worldwide sales of more than 1 million MSI Wind laptops. The MSI Wind Millions Special Edition U135 is a netbook that looks good and is comfortable to use. It has a balance issue that we've seen in previous Wind netbooks, but we like the U135's build quality, design and features.

The MSI Wind U135 fell short compared to the competition in terms of software support and battery life. Out of the box the U135 was missing any sort of touchpad software--including on the restore partition--greatly reducing the features. We later found the drivers included on the MSI support website, which brought multi-touch options, as well as simple features like scrolling.

A new crop of netbooks has sprung up around Intel’s Pine Trail platform. We've got more about what Pine Trail actually is later in this review, but the important part: We've found that Pine Trail netbooks perform about as well as previous-generation $500 netbooks while costing approximately $100 to $150 less and demonstrating above-average battery life. Built around Intel’s latest Atom platform, this budget netbook performs similarly to its competition, though the battery life is shorter. (On the plus side, though, its keyboard is sturdier.)

MSI is migrating its collection of netbooks over to Intel's Pine Trail platform, with the aim of using less energy and providing even longer battery life. MSI has rejuvenated its Wind U100 with this Wind U135. It's a shame that the transformation has involved so much glossy plastic, but it's still a worthwhile netbook, with a great screen and a keyboard and touchpad that are comfortable to use.

The MSI Wind U135 looks and performs well for a netbook, keeping pace with its competitors. Its price of $329 also makes it less expensive than the ASUS 1005PE ($379) and even the budget conscious Samsung N130 ($349). However, battery life takes a step back, especially considering that the Atom N450 is supposed to offer greater endurance than the previous generation of Atom chips. If you can swing the extra $50, we recommend the ASUS Eee PC 1005PE and its 5 extra hours of work and play time. But, if you’re really watching the bottom line, the U135 is worth a look.

Commentaire
