Lenovo Flex 5G Review: Incredible Battery Life With Caveats
Source: Hot Hardware Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Generally speaking, laptops are a series of trade-offs. Some folks might be willing to compromise on battery life to get more outright performance, or would be happy to tether a traditional laptop to their phone as an internet hotspot. For those folks, there are other options. However, for those who value incredible battery life and 5G connectivity without the need for a hotspot or tethering above all other considerations, there's a short list of devices out there that can deliver and it starts with the Lenovo Flex 5G. It's for this demographic and in that situation that we're proclaiming this system HotHardware Approved. The Lenovo Flex 5G is an excellent example of what Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx always-connected PC platform has to offer.

70% Lenovo Flex 5G review: The first 5G laptop offers crazy battery life, as well as compromises
Source: PC World Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
If you absolutely, positively need a 5G laptop this very second, by all means, head on down to your local Verizon store and sign up for the Lenovo Flex 5G. It delivers the goods once it connects to a 5G signal (provided you can find one), it delivers all-day-plus battery, and it boasts a solid (if heavy) design with a bright full-HD display and plenty of biometrics. But the Flex 5G’s Snapdragon 8cx processor constrains its productivity performance. Given the army of competing 5G laptops that’s about to arrive, our instinct would be to wait on this one.

70% Lenovo Flex 5G review
Source: Techradar Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
The Lenovo Flex 5G's only justification for its price tag is almost entirely irrelevant at the moment and its ARM CPU lags badly behind its Intel and AMD rivals in terms of performance and compatibility, making it very hard to recommend at this time for anyone but enthusiasts and early adopters.

Lenovo's first 5G PC promises superfast download speeds (it depends very much on your location) and delivers extraordinary battery life. But the Snapdragon 8cx-based Flex 5G is an otherwise average 2-in-1 convertible with a whopper of a price tag.

Lenovo's Flex 5G is the first laptop with Verizon 5G, but those blistering wireless speeds are counterbalanced by sluggish performance and compatibility issues.

80% Lenovo Flex 5G review: Insane battery life at a cost
Source: Android Authority Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
The Lenovo Flex 5G is a device hindered by compromises. The laptop hardware itself is fine, but not as spiffy or appealing as a $1,499 laptop should be. Lenovo’s display is great inside, but falters outdoors due to the glossy glass. While the keyboard is excellent, and augmented by truly useful shortcut keys, the touchpad is average and the ports are limited. Performance is where the Flex 5G really shines. The Snapdragon 8cx chewed through all my productivity apps with ease, and battery life is absolutely out of this world. 5G speeds were excellent, though Verizon’s signal is hardly ubiquitous. This performance, however, is offset by the lack of support for 64-bit x86 apps.

70% Lenovo Flex 5G review: The best Windows on ARM PC, but the 5G tax is way too much
Source: Neowin Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
All-in-all, this is a really great PC, with a pretty 1080p display, a nice and quiet keyboard, and cellular connectivity. It's just a mid-range laptop with flagship pricing, and that couldn't be more evident than by the fact that it doesn't ship with a pen, or that you can't configure it with more than 8GB RAM. I love Windows on ARM PCs for a lot of reasons, so it pains me to say this, but I really don't feel like I can recommend the Flex 5G.

64% Lenovo Flex 5G review: Stunning battery life ruined by Windows on ARM
Source: Engadget Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
The Flex 5G has incredible battery life and solid cellular internet connectivity, but it's too expensive to be worth buying in a global pandemic and recession. Especially since Windows on ARM still needs a lot more work to be a reliable daily-driver.

Lenovo Flex 5G review: 5G in a laptop, if you can find a signal
Source: Engadget Anglais Archive.org version
Lenovo's Flex 5G is equipped with Qualcomm's 8cx processor, a mobile chip with 5G connectivity. The 8cx is theoretically capable of great performance, but we found the Flex 5G painfully slow. It's also an ARM processor, meaning it has limited compatibility with many programs, some of our favorite benchmarks wouldn't even run. The bright spots are excellent battery life, a good keyboard, and that 5G antenna, though we were never actually able to find a 5G signal.

Lenovo Flex 5G Review: The First 5G Laptop
Source: MrMobile Anglais Archive.org version
It’s thin; it’s light … and it’s always connected to the internet. By now, the formula for laptops like the Lenovo Flex 5G is pretty well established: instead of a chip from Intel or AMD, at its core sits an ARM-based Snapdragon 8cx that has much more in common with smartphone silicon. Instead of being built for power, it’s built to wake up quickly, use battery power sparingly, and maintain a constant connection to the web.

60% Lenovo’s Flex 5G proves it’s too early to buy a 5G laptop
Source: The Verge Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
There will be better 5G laptops in the future, but like the state of 5G in general, we’re not there yet. And it’s not clear when more options that support 5G will arrive, be cheaper, easier to find, or more convenient to use. For right now, Lenovo’s Flex 5G is an incredibly safe bet as a first-generation device. Compared to what the first round of 5G-enabled phones looked like, there’s not much about the design that sets it apart from other laptops. And until support for ARM processors improves drastically, the fast but fleeting 5G service that’s available currently through Verizon isn’t appealing enough to make this investment — or the monthly cost for Verizon’s 5G — worthwhile.

Commentaire

Qualcomm Adreno 680:
