Critiques pour le/la Huawei P10
Next please! Ten is more than nine - and Huawei develops its P10 according to this strategy. A faster SoC, more storage, bigger battery, and a better camera. The design is rounder and the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the front. Not revolutionary, but the Chinese manufacturer does not show weaknesses with the Huawei P10.
Update: Updates regarding flash storage and WLAN performance.
Update: Firmware B365 released to improve security.

In its own right the Huawei P10 is a solid piece of kit across the board, both in terms of looks and specs. But once you start looking at other handsets – the iPhone 7 Plus, the Google Pixel, the LG G6, the OnePlus 3T, the Galaxy S8 – things start to fall apart quickly. And a good camera alone cannot change this.

While it’s a great device with a clean look, comfortable handling, and practical features, it’s not leading in benchmarks performance and it’s further hampered with middling battery life. The Kirin 960 processor is just a hair below the Snapdragon 820’s results. The Snapdragon 820 itself is already superseded by the better Snapdragon 821 and the current-generation Snapdragon 835. Fortunately for Huawei, the average phone buyer isn’t typically concerned with processor differences.

If you like the Huawei P10’s feature set and what it brings to the table, I’d recommend you save some cash and grab last year’s model at a far lower cost. If you have the cash to spend and you’re looking for the best smartphone, unfortunately you’ll find that elsewhere.

If you currently own a P9 then the P10’s incrementally improved specs may not be quite enough to justify upgrading to the newer model, especially with its £549 price tag. But if you are coming from an older or lower range model, then you’ll be more than happy with the Huawei P10. The P10 is an evolutionary improvement on the P9, nothing more, nothing less, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If it featured a higher resolution display and f/1.8 Summilux camera lens like the P10 Plus does, I’d be saying it was a handset capable of competing with the LG G6, Pixel, and Galaxy S8. However, this is the regular P10, with slightly lower specs, and as such, it doesn’t quite match up to the big hitters of 2017.

Huawei made a huge step ahead with the P9 last year and the company kept performing well after its success. P10 made its fans happy once again with a unibody construction which now carries an octa-core Kirin 960 CPU which increases performance without draining the battery. The latter performed decently in our tests and it comes with several useful power saving modes.

While the Huawei P10 is no doubt a worthy upgrade from the P9, there are still numerous areas which require some form of polishing. The camera for instance, does not live up to the price of the phone when factoring in its performance under low light. The average battery life of the phone leaves much room for improvement as well. Overall, the Huawei P10 can be deemed as a more refined version of its predecessor, but some letdowns in certain aspects of the phone leaves a lot to be desired. It can be difficult to justify the RM2,499 price tag, but compared to most premium flagships, the P10 is definitely worth every penny spent.

The P10 and P10 Plus are fast. At least they are when using LPDDR4 RAM and UFS 2.0 NAND like both of our review units. It would have been nice to receive a unit with a different memory type (assuming Huawei is actually shipping units with slower hardware) to explore the performance impact, but that’s outside our control.

In the brief time we spent with the P10 and P10 Plus, we didn't really find that much which completely blew us away, but on the other hand we didn't find much to dislike either. It's exactly what you'd expect from a flagship Android phone in 2017 – nothing more, and nothing less – which means the answer to the question of "should you buy this?" largely comes down to whether you've used Huawei phones before and liked them. If you have, then you're going to like the P10.

But of course, they aren’t really cameras with phone functionality. They are really Android phones with excellent cameras. They are powered by octacore Kirin 960 processors (up to 4 by 2.4GHz and 4 by 1.8GHz), run Android 7.0 Nougat with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 skin and have 8 megapixel f/1.9 selfie cameras. The latest flagship Android device from Huawei is the Huawei P10, a more refined version of its predecessor that sees the return of the Leica-branded dual-camera setup on the rear of the handset, and the shift of the fingerprint sensor from the rear to the front.

In addition to the other caveats above, there are two other dark clouds over the P10, and they’re of Huawei’s own making. You see, they also announced the P10 Plus and this brings in a 5.5” QHD display for only 8mm extra length to the phone. And the Plus model has extra storage and RAM options, a main camera with much larger f/1.8 aperture, and a 3750mAh battery. Now, the Plus is slightly harder to find for sale, and is usually well over £100 (or local equivalent) more expensive, but it’s undoubtedly the better option if it’s available where you are in the world and if you can find the cash.

The Huawei P10 is unlikely to come to the US directly, but it's on sale without a contract in Europe for €649 and the UK for £570 (roughly US$690-710), so slightly below the top-tier prices but not by all that much. Overall, the Huawei P10 is a beast of a phone when it comes to speed and camera performance. It has all the features and stability of a flagship device. Perhaps the camera could be a little difficult to use for an average consumer, but it does take great photos when you really understand the concept of photography. So, the big question is, should you upgrade to the P10? If you’re coming from the P9, not really – the image quality of the P10 is good, but it’s not enough to necessitate the upgrade from Huawei’s already solid dual-camera flagship from last year. If you are looking for an upgrade, you’d be better served by the Mate 9, which basically has the same guts and camera as the P10, encased in body that holds a bigger display and battery.

The Huawei P10 is one of those phones that snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. In baseball, the P10 would be a home run that winds up being a double because some dumb fan caught the ball and threw it to third base. The P10 is so close to being a killer phone, and yet it falls disappointingly short. I have no complaints about the basic hardware. Aside from the too-familiar design, Huawei pieced together a nice set of high-quality materials in a compact form that's a pleasure to use day in and day out. Call quality is very good, data speeds are fine, the screen is nice (though prone to grime), and battery life is outstanding. The camera app is incredibly powerful and produces mostly excellent results.

Huawei is a titan outside the US — the third-biggest smartphone vendor in the world, according to data from IDC. It has the resources to keep on trying to crack the West, and it’s sinking money into research and marketing in an attempt to overthrow Apple and Samsung. It ought to have the ability to design a phone that customers the world over would genuinely want. On the evidence of the P10, though, the US isn’t missing out on all that much.

The P10 story is one of steady improvement, rather than revolutionary change. But the odd thing is that the real action here is going on with the P10’s bigger sibling, the 5.5inch display P10 Plus. For only £50 more SIM-free, the P10 Plus boasts a Leica Summilax f/1.8 aperture main sensor, offering far better low light performance, 4x4 MIMO antennas for 600mbit/s download speeds on LTE, and an infra-red blaster. When I reviewed the Huawei P9 about a year ago, one of the things that caught my attention was how proud Huawei was of its Chinese roots, flaunting that the device was "Made in China" when all other Chinese brands (and American brands, like Ivanka Trump's clothing line or Apple) tries to hide that fact. The most shameless of these may be Shenzhen-based ZTE, which puts "Designed in USA" on the box of its Axon 7 smartphone.

If it has been awhile since you've bought a new flagship smartphone, opting for the Huawei P10 is well advised. If however, you purchased a P9 or perhaps a Galaxy S7 or LG G5, making the jump to this iteration of the device feels less warranted. The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus are not perfect, but they are about as close as it is possible to get right now. They offer almost all the benefits of the larger Mate 9 flagship but in smaller, more manageable form factors. To put this is in perspective, most smartphones in the 5.1-inch range don’t have half the features of the regular P10, and the P10 Plus can comfortably hold its own against any of the 5.5-inch flagships around right now, even if some might argue it’s a little overpriced.

Personally, the whole oleophobic kerfuffle with the Huawei P10 has considerably dampened my enthusiasm for these phones. This is a core hardware feature which has been the norm in just about every flagship smartphone for the past decade. The P10 forces me to choose between two bad options: leave the screen protector on and deal with a display that feels like crappy plastic, or take it off and live in a frustrating hellscape of screen smudges.

All things considered, the Huawei P10 is not a groundbreaking improvement over the P9. Huawei P10 is upgrading the P9 big time - there is a new and striking design, a huge hardware leap with the Kirin 960 chip, and the new Leica Dual Camera 2.0. If we had to plan a sequel for the P9 one year ago, we couldn't have imagined it better than the P10.

In a way, this phone isn’t really getting a fair shake, as the most immediate comparison people make is against the bigger brother Mate which only just made it to the United States about a month ago. Remembering that this is an update to the P9, nearly every aspect of this phone is noticeably better than last year’s fashion flagship. Screaming performance, better battery life, significantly faster charging, and an evolved camera system. It’s admirable that Huawei packaged all of these improvements while also playing with some new design elements and focusing on fresh color options.

I’m also not convinced about its price. The Huawei P10 Plus is only €50 more than the regular P10 and comes with a better camera, a larger higher-resolution screen, and 128GB of storage. For Smartphone video enthusiasts, the Huawei P10 offers 1080p@60fps, as well as higher-resolution 2160p@30fps moving image capture, and achieves a good Video sub-score of 84 points. Videos generally have pleasant exposures with good dynamic range and accurate white balance in all conditions. The excellent detail and texture seen in stills persists in movie files, too, with well-defined edges and plenty of fine detail present. Autofocus performance for video is very good, too, with fast reaction and smooth convergence during scene changes and in panning videos.

Speaking of cost, the P10 looks like retailing at £599 when it arrives on March 31. That’ll put it just a smidgen below the absolute top-tier phones - which is apt, because that’s also where it sits in terms of overall quality.

Huawei P10 Review: After a week of using the Huawei P10 flagship phone as my full-time smartphone, I'm more than impressed with Huawei's enticing blend of attractive design, solid specs and fully-functional software. Here's our full Huawei P10 review.

The Huawei P10 could easily be described as a Mate 9 mini with a refreshed design. The Mate 9 was a fantastic phone and bringing it down to a size that’s usable with one-handed will surely attract the crowd that shies away from phablets. I do wish that the P10 was equipped with the new camera that Huawei has put on the P10 Plus.

The Huawei P10 looks and feel very similar to the P9, and even closer to Apple's flagship than previous attempts. But all-in-all it seems responsive thanks to a number of spec updates. The screen is pretty neat and there's everything there's you'd expect from the Chinese manufacturer, just nothing really that innovative.

Both the P10 and P10 Plus are more iterative products this time around, and that’s okay. Huawei has found a winning formula to their phones, and it makes sense for the company to milk it (and their partnership with Leica) for all its worth. Still it’d be interesting to see how both phones will fare in the local market considering that they’re priced higher than the previous models, with the top tier P10 Plus priced at past 40K. At those levels you’re already talking about iPhone-level pricing, something that simply doesn’t fly in the Philippines. We’ll have to see when the phones officially launch in April.

The Huawei P10, at least based on initial impressions, feels like a solid if a little uninspiring update to the P9 blueprint. Yes there are some design changes – I personally always prefer a front fingerprint sensor rather than rear – but there’s not been as great an evolution between models as seen in rivals such as the LG G6 or heavily rumoured changes to the Samsung Galaxy S8.

I really like the Huawei P10. I like the Dazzling Blue version with its Diamond-Cut back, I like the sleek look and feel of the black version and I like the fact that it's at least trying something a bit different with the green model. Not that I'd buy that one myself.

We managed to get some alone time with the recently announced Huawei P10, in this case, the graphite black and did a brief first looks hands-on and unboxing as shown in the images. We even did a comparison with the previous Huawei P9 which you can see in the video below but you can also check our Huawei P9 vs P10 comparison tool as well:

Nonetheless, the coming month will be a very interesting – and crucial – time for Huawei. If the Chinese company plays its cards right and price its new flagships well, the P10 and P10 Plus may be another success story; they certainly have the potential.

The Huawei P10's biggest success might be the one thing we've barely discussed: its size. At 5.1-inches, it's nearer to palm-size than many of the current giant phones on the market and that, irrelevant of greenery/dazzling blue colours, we suspect will be the feature to lure punters in.

Huawei hasn't announced UK pricing yet, but the P10 will cost €649 and the P10 Plus will cost €699 when they go on sale in March.
