Our initial time with the Honor Magic 5 Pro was very promising, but we'll have to run our thorough benchmark procedures to have a clearer picture. The Magic 5 Pro starts at 1,199 euros, which is not cheap by any standard but if the phone manages to deliver on all the promises, that price may very well be justified.

So, should you buy the HONOR Magic5 Pro? Well, this phone does have a lot of competition out there. It also combines a unique set of features not many other phones have. You’re getting top-of-the-line specs, excellent display and battery life, fast wired and wireless charging, and 3D facial scanning all in the same package. Not to mention an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and more. That being said, the biggest tradeoff here is HONOR’s UI, which needs work. It doesn’t really impact the performance as much as it stands in its own way and lacks some features that should probably be there. If you, however, want a different experience, and you don’t mind what I’ve mentioned in the software section above, the HONOR Magic5 Pro is definitely worth checking out. This phone has considerable potential.

When Huawei’s troubles started, many of us were worried about the fate of Honor, especially after the brands separated and Honor had to exit from the Singapore market. It appears that Huawei’s choice was the correct one, and Honor hasn’t just been sitting idly by either. Then again, hindsight is 20/20. The Honor Magic5 Pro itself is a true flagship-level offering that lives up to its old parent company’s hardware standards while giving users the conveniences they expect from a properly Google-backed phone. The build quality is excellent, the MagicOS UI is intuitive and easy to use, the imaging performance is brilliant, and the phone’s general performance goes head-to-head with even more expensive flagship phones. That's not even factoring in its generous 512GB base storage at its asking price.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro emerges as a powerhouse, showcasing a compelling blend of exceptional hardware and notable software improvements. The device impresses with its triple-camera system, delivering sharp, vibrant shots across various lighting conditions. Notably, the 50MP primary sensor with a wider aperture and OIS stands out, offering vivid imagery. The battery life is commendable, lasting through a day of intensive usage, owing to the substantial 5,100mAh capacity. However, the slight regression in charging capabilities compared to its predecessor is a drawback, albeit the 66W wired and 50W wireless charging still ensure swift refueling. The software experience has notably improved, with the MagicOS 7.0 exhibiting smoother performance and useful features like Honor Connect and Motion Sensing Capture. Overall, the Honor Magic 5 Pro impresses as a well-rounded device, excelling in camera capabilities and enduring battery life.

The Honor Magic5 Pro delivered a decent performance in the DXOMARK Selfie test but could not quite keep up with the best in its class. In photo mode the camera captured decent still images with good exposure. However, our testers found dynamic range to be limited, color rendering could have been better and the trade-off between detail retention and noise reduction left some room for improvement as well. The performance in video mode was comparatively better than stills, with good video stabilization making the Honor a good option for vlogging and similar use cases. Exposure was usually good as well, but could be slightly unstable on occasion. Our experts also noticed occasionally inaccurate skin tones in the recorded video footage.

The old-new HONOR brand is back with its magnificent Magic5 Pro 5G as a flagship. This is a truly noteworthy smartphone. The “departure” from Huawei could have led to the idea of a drop in quality or a complete lack of interest in the brand, but instead we got Magic5 Pro, which competes with the top flagship brands and is not inferior to them! Premium design and performance, IP68 protection, a stunning almost bezel-less screen, mega battery life, impressive cameras, super speakers – with all this, HONOR is one of the leading flagships of this year. The software is worth working on. The MagicOS shell is not bad, but it is not inspiring and looks like it was downloaded directly from Huawei, and it contains a lot of unnecessary software. Also, it would be useful to work on the quality of the zoom over 10x and it’s a pity that there is no 8K video (but this is not such a problem for most).

Honor has followed up its flagship debut with a strong, if generally iterative second effort. The Honor Magic 5 Pro keeps a lot of what we liked in the Honor Magic 4 Pro – a big and impeccably balanced display, proper facial authentication – while fixing some of the minor issues we had such as underwhelming battery life and no main camera OIS. Indeed, the camera system here is a highlight, yielding bright, vibrant, well-balanced shots across all three main sensors. It’s a shame to see wired charging speeds take a backward step, however, and MagicOS remains truly hard to love. Google Play Services support has lost its novelty value with this former Huawei sub-brand, so we’re just left with the clunkiness of the software experience. All in all, it leaves the Honor Magic 5 Pro in a similar position to its predecessor. It’s a high class, thoroughly viable yet somewhat left-field alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, the iPhone 14 Plus, and the Xiaomi 13 Pro.

The Honor Magic5 Pro’s excellent battery score places the device among the Top 10 in our database so far. The device clearly outperformed its predecessor, the Honor Magic4 Pro, with a significantly better autonomy and efficiency mainly due to a larger battery. But its charging experience was not as excellent as its predecessor’s because of reduced charger power (66W versus 100W in wired and 50W versus 100W in wireless.) Otherwise, the Honor Magic5 Pro provided 65 hours of autonomy when used moderately, which is excellent. Specific usages like gaming or streaming videos were particularly good, except when using the camera, which show below-average autonomy. Moreover, the phone’s battery gauge was inaccurate, displaying 20% and 100% of power left, when the true capacity of the battery was measured at around 15% and 94%, respectively

If you want a high-end phone, most people tend to gravitate towards the well-known names in the smartphone market, i.e. Samsung and Apple. But phones like this show that there’s devices out there which are just as good – if not better – than their bigger named, bigger budget rivals. Image quality from the Honor Magic 5 is excellent and easily rivals the Samsung, iPhone and other competitors such as the Pixel 7 Pro. It performs well in a variety of situations, including low light. There are just a couple of niggles here that stop it short of being five star, the lack of 8K video (probably not a deal breaker for most, but we need to differentiate it somehow from other similar offerings), and the fact that Portrait mode is a little bit unrealistic looking compared with others.

The HONOR Magic 5 Pro is an incredibly appealing flagship smartphone, and we daresay it is the best HONOR smartphone to date. It features a low-profile design while maintaining a premium feel, and its functionality is truly comprehensive for a flagship phone in 2023. However, the Magic 5 Pro might struggle to stand out against other flagship phones from different brands. For example, even though the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is sold at a higher price point (from RM5699), it offers a clearer 100x zoom shot and an integrated stylus. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 13 Pro (from RM4599) has a smaller screen than the Magic 5 Pro. But it boasts Leica camera technology with a 1-inch sensor capable of producing DSLR-level images. With its price tag of RM4299, perhaps the Magic5 Pro can be considered a more affordable flagship phone compared to others. I believe this is, at present, one of its main attractions for the Malaysian market.

Overall though, the Honor Magic5 Pro is a great daily phone, whether you’re going to use it to play games or just for the usual everyday use. Not to mention it also comes with a really nice camera capable of even shooting 4K video. However, it does take some time to get used to the weight as well as the shape of the phone itself. As for the price, the Honor Magic5 Pro retails for PHP 59,990, making it conservatively affordable for a smartphone considering what it is capable of. It undercuts the price of some of its competitors but still offers the performance of a flagship model. But what do you think of the Honor Magic5 Pro so far? Is it a flagship smartphone you’ll consider as compared to others given its great camera capabilities and affordable price? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

To sum things up, the Honor Magic 5 Pro is an impressive all-around powerhouse. The phone packs some powerful internals and processing power, has very capable cameras, impressive battery life, and a slick-looking design – it’s the very definition of a flagship phone, and Honor fans will definitely want to get their hands on this. It’s also a solid bet if you’re looking to test the waters and see what Honor has to offer when it comes to premium Android phones. Honor's not going to upset the position of companies like Samsung, Google or OnePlus in the highest echelons of the flagship Android phone space. But it keeps showing with phones like the Magic 5 Pro that it belongs in the same league as those devices. U.S. users are going to have to turn to a Galaxy S23 Plus, or perhaps a cheaper Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro or OnePlus 11 unless they want to fuss around with international imports. U.K. users, who can get a Magic 5 Pro easily, should shortlist for the Honor phone over the others if they're interested in its unusual mix of features, the particularly strong display or ultrawide and telephoto camera, or if the price fits perfectly with your budget.

The Honor Magic 5 might not be a smartphone you would have heard of before this review but we're here to tell you, it's definitely a smartphone that's worth getting to know. The cameras are really great, minus the poor digital zoom performance, with a particularly interesting macro option. The display is big, bright and colour accurate and you get a really decent battery that easily lasts a day. It is a big phone, however, that won't suit everyone and the design is rather unique, again, won't be everyone's cup of tea but it's good to see a smartphone company doing something a bit different. All-in-all, it's an easy 'Highly Reccomened' award for Honor and the Magic 5 Pro.

The Magic 5 Pro has a gorgeous design that is sure to turn heads, and it is rocking the latest hardware, bringing it on par with the best phones available today. You also get a vibrant screen that's one of the brightest around, excellent battery life with fast wired and wireless charging, and all the extras you could want. The three 50MP cameras at the back take outstanding shots in any lighting situation, and there's just one issue with this phone: the software. I don't like the lack of refinement here, and MagicOS 7.1 doesn't do enough to integrate all the latest features Google introduced in Android. If you’re in the market for a flagship phone, absolutely. Spending almost £1,000 on a phone isn’t a decision to be taken lightly, and as a result people are drawn to the reputations for quality enjoyed by Apple and Samsung, but this latest Honor model takes the fight to them and lands some significant blows, particularly in terms of its screen and cameras. Honor’s 2023 flagship phone is a bit of a beast, offering top-flight performance and handling. With the latest internal components, a bright OLED screen, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage as standard, plus a triple-50MP camera array on the back including a periscope zoom, there's a lot to like about this distinctive phone.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro is a serious upgrade over its predecessor, fixing a lot of the gripes we’ve had with it in our review. The display seems more uniform, its weight is much more balanced and less top-heavy, and it doesn’t lose any of the features that made its predecessor special. It’s the first Honor flagship phone I can recommend, even with the caveats mentioned in this review. I would still love for Honor to create software that feels more distinct from Huawei’s EMUI, but it’s getting there, and there isn’t much left to complain about. The problem, as with so many great phones from China, is that Honor isn’t officially selling the phone in the US, and that means worse network support and limited warranty if you’re willing to pull the trigger on this phone. But when you look at this device without considering its limited availability, it’s definitely right up there with other phones in its $1,200 price category.

Having learned its lessons with the Magic 4 Pro which suffered from a somewhat dated UI, Honor has come up trumps with the Magic 5 Pro. It’s a superb meld of high-performance hardware, competent and slick software, stellar battery life, and a camera setup that simply works for any occasion. Currently priced at £869 (usually £949) in the UK, the Magic 5 Pro stacks up favorably against the likes of the Galaxy S23 Ultra in both performance and affordability. If you want a phone that looks a little different from Samsung’s offerings but with the power, performance, and versatility of a flagship it’s a no-brainer to consider the Magic 5 Pro, especially when you consider the savings to be had.

The Magic 5 Pro is an excellent return from Honor, and a sign that the flagship form it found in last year’s Magic 4 Pro was no fluke. On display and battery life this phone can duke it out with the best, and the camera does enough to earn its place in that conversation too. It’s strange that performance runs a little cold compared to other 2023 flagships, and I’ll admit that the striking design didn’t really win me over. The main thing to give you pause should still be the software though, with MagicOS an acceptable but uninspiring take on Android. It gets the job done, but Honor’s big name rivals still deliver more when it comes to pure polish.

With a score of 138, the Honor Magic5 Pro delivered an excellent result in the DXOMARK Audio tests, thanks to strong performances in playback and recording alike. In playback, the Honor did very well across all use cases, making it a great option for listening to music, watching movies and gaming. In recording, there was more variation between use cases, especially in terms of timbre. Overall, the device did best when recording with the main camera. When using the front camera or voice recorder app, our experts observed a slight drop-off in quality, but the Honor Magic5 Pro still performed on a high level. There was some room for improvement in terms of wind noise reduction, but the Honor Magic5 Pro is overall a great smartphone for audio playback and recording, earning itself our Gold label for Audio.

The Honour Magic5 Pro is an extraordinarily powerful smartphone with some of the best display, speakers, chipset, cameras, and charging options on the market, all housed in a stunning and one-of-a-kind IP68-rated chassis. The camera experience was as high-end as it gets these days, with superb photo quality and natural-looking, balanced output across the board. The same can be said for the video experience, but I’ve seen a few higher-quality zoomed films on other flagships. The phone lasted me two full days of use, and when empty only took 45 mins to charge back to full. The Honour Magic5 Pro isn’t flawless, but it’s close. The phone has a slick look, and the 2x digital zoom isn’t as lossless as on other phones ( I’m talking about phones with 1″ main cameras). The magnified movies are also subpar, and there is no 8K option. Surprisingly, all 4K videos are limited to 15 minutes, which is not ideal for video creators. Finally, the GPU throttles a lot when running in peak performance, which is a thing you should have in mind if you consider competitive gaming. But even with these setbacks, the Honor Magic5 Pro is a solid offer with flagship specs and quality top to bottom. literally has everything and it’s not the most expensive offer on the market. But with all that said I loved my time with the Magic5 Pro and having had the latest flagship from Samsung for past few years, I do think that the major manufacture’s have some serious competition to worry about.

This is a great phone, and it's a shame that it will never see U.S. shores. It's not perfect, especially in the States, but Samsung needs to sit up and take notice because if someone is in the market for a flagship phone outside of the U.S., there's no reason why this can't be that phone. It's fast, it's beautiful, it's long-lasting, and it has a great camera. There's too much there to ignore. Honor could have made a different call on the front-facing camera, and a little tweaking of the camera might get the phone to reduce overexposing highlights at night. But those are two tiny, easy-to-ignore qualms in an otherwise complete package, and one by the way that is slimmer, lighter, and probably cheaper (depending on the deal you find) than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. That's good for the U.S. because as long as this phone competes on the international stage, Samsung will have to react, and if these two continue to go head to head, that's only going to make things better.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro is a nice all-in-one package with features that rivals some of the most popular smartphones on the market at a much cheaper price, coming in at just £949 with a whopping 512GB of storage onboard. It ticks most of the boxes, including an attractive design, bright display, top-end performance, all-day battery life and capable cameras, with extras like 2160Hz PMW dimming and AI-powered Falcon Capture helping separate it from the competition. It doesn’t always succeed – the 10x zoom isn’t quite as capable as that from Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra and charging isn’t as fast as the Xiaomi 13 Pro – but there’s certainly a lot to like about Honor’s 2023 flagship.

If last year’s Magic 4 Pro was Honor testing the waters, the Magic 5 Pro is a confident cannonball into flagship territory. It has the looks to rub shoulders with more lavish rivals, a stunner of a screen, outstanding battery life and very fast charging. Add in an impressive showing from that rear camera trio and it absolutely earns a place among today’s best high-end phones. There are a few hiccups, like the slightly restrictive video recording options and an adaptive refresh rate that isn’t overly keen to adapt. A slight Huawei influence also still lingers on design and software. But those are all minor foibles in what’s otherwise a very capable all-rounder. It may not have the Xiaomi 13 Pro’s 1in camera sensor, and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a sharper UI, but the Magic5 Pro undercuts both by a fair margin – and anyone eyeing up a Galaxy S23+ should absolutely consider this as an alternative.

…which is quite a shame when you realise just how much better it could’ve been. The Magic 5 Pro is actually a really good and well-rounded smartphone, with solid performance in the key aspects that most people will actually care about. This includes day-to-day usage, battery life, the speakers and display as well as the point and shoot experience with the main camera. Where it falls short though is with its MagicOS skin of Android as well as the ultrawide and periscope telephoto cameras. With the former, there was just this feeling that they would’ve been better off with something more stock Android than a heavy skin with shades of EMUI still apparent. And as for the latter, it just needs a bit more work on the software side of things if Honor really wants to challenge the likes of Samsung, Apple and Google in the camera department. Luckily for Honor then that both of these issues can be rectified in the future with OTA software updates, so the Magic 5 Pro could actually get better down the line. As for its price, the Honor Magic 5 Pro debuted in Malaysia with a RM4,299 price tag, which gets you the same 12GB+512GB model that we reviewed here. And overall, that’s actually a very fair price tag for what you’re getting: a well rounded Android flagship that has its quirks here and there. Whether it’s worth that price tag though is a different story altogether and will depend on if you’re willing to fork out even more for something more polished instead, such as a Galaxy S23 Ultra. But to give credit where credit’s due, the Honor Magic 5 Pro is a quality smartphone with a price tag that’ll make it very appealing to anyone wanting a flagship device. If you’re willing to take the road less travelled, you might just find the Magic 5 Pro right up your alley.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro is a great evolution in the series. From the unique design (we can't deny the astrophysical reference gives us a nerdgasm), to the amazing display and great camera system, this phone is a legitimate flagship. It pushes several boundaries, sporting a huge battery inside a very slim and lightweight chassis, and all in all, performs great on all fronts. The only real problem is the price and availability (okay, two problems), as getting an Honor device is not as easy as grabbing a Samsung or an Apple. At 1,199 euros the phone is not cheap, but looking at other flagships coming from the Far East, the price tag is actually within the expected margin (whatever that means). If you decide to get this phone, you won't regret your decision, it's one of the best flagships launched this year (also Best Of MWC'23 award winner).

Reviewing the Honor Magic 5 Pro, a flagship smartphone to rival Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra with its night vision camera, Snapdragon gaming prowess and best-in-class battery life. I've been testing the Honor Magic 5 Pro as my full-time phone so here's my verdict, and please subscribe for more unboxing and reviews of the greatest 2023 mobiles! Vs the 4 Pro from last year, Honor has packed in a fair few upgrades. Performance has been boosted with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 running the show. You also have Sony's IMX878 camera sensor, which can capture natural looking photos even in low light and dodgy conditions. There's no 8K video option but the Magic 5 Pro is on par with many flagship rivals for its camera tech. Gamers will enjoy the smooth experience on Genshin Impact and other big Android titles. Magic OS however can be a wee bit shonky at times, which is a shame given the premium price. That grumble aside, the Honor Magic 5 Pro offers a solid package for under £1000, making it cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Just not by much!

The Honor Magic 5 Pro offers good value for the money. It features a gorgeous display, some of the best battery life on a 2023 smartphone, good performance, and a versatile set of cameras. It has a few annoyances in the UI, and the problem with shooting portraits hinders an overall great experience. It’s so close to being great — but is not there yet. At 950 British pounds, its main competitor is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus, which lacks a periscope telephoto camera and has worse battery life. The Xiaomi 13 Pro clicks brilliant portraits, and I prefer its cameras over Honor’s, but it costs an extra 150 British pounds. And then there’s the Galaxy S23 Ultra with a better camera setup, display, and UI experience — but it crosses the 1,300 British pounds mark for the 512GB storage variant. If you are looking for a flagship phone under 950 British pounds in the U.K., and your priorities are comfortable design, good display, no-compromise performance with all-day battery life, and a versatile set of cameras, the Honor Magic 5 Pro is for you.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro shows Honor inching forward in its attempts towards really challenging the leading Android phones on the market right now. The Magic 5 Pro has a lot to love, and ultimately very little that lets it down. It's hugely powerful, has a gorgeous display, three great cameras that perform well across the board and a solid design. The camera bump and design may divide opinion but we didn't mind it - it's a talking point at the very least. The UI is still slightly heavy handed for our taste but it's pretty customisable and we think most people can find a happy medium here - particularly now decent Android and security updates are on board. Even better is that at £949.99, it comes in considerably cheaper than some of its competitors, like the Xiaomi 13 Pro, making it an even more attractive for anyone looking for a photography-focused flagship Android smartphone.

HONOR is finally breaking out of its shell with the Magic 5 Pro, sanding away previously rough edges to produce an exceptional, polished smartphone experience. The powerhouse hardware package is as good, if not better than you’ll find anywhere else. Including the all-important photography domain, which has come on leaps and bounds since the Magic 4 Pro launched just a year prior. A stunning (if a bit sluggish) display, solid battery, brilliant biometrics, well-rounded cameras, and great performance provide everything you need on the day-to-day. The next step we’d really like to see is a little more unique identity in software department, though that’s not to say that MagicOS 7.1 won’t serve you perfectly well, especially now HONOR has improved its update policy. The big question is, should you buy it? Priced at £949 in the UK, HONOR has waded into the same arena as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus ($849.99 at Amazon) and the Apple iPhone 14 Pro ($999.99 at Best Buy), but undercuts both. It has the edge on Apple’s hardware and does come with more storage than Samsung’s equivalently priced model. However, thes e rivals retain advantages regarding long-term software support and broader ecosystem plays. It’s still a little way off the value flagship king, the Google Pixel 7 Pro ($749 at Amazon), though it’s more affordable than the excellent Xiaomi 13 Pro (£1099.99 at Amazon). Outside of the UK, €1,199 certainly isn’t unjustifiable for a phone of this quality, even if an asking price closer to €1,099 would have made the Magic 5 Pro a slam-dunk. As it stands, you have to be willing to leave the safety net of the big players to take a chance on HONOR. With that in mind, the Magic 5 Pro is a great pick if you’re looking for something different yet still incredibly competent, and I definitely recommend you consider it.

All things considered and Honor has put together a compelling package in the Magic 5 Pro. It's beefed up the battery, tidied up its design, and strengthened its camera arrangement compared to the previous Magic 4 Pro model. Of everything, however, it's the super-bright screen that's my favourite feature. But it's not the perfect device: I've found some software irks from time to time, there are functionality improvements that would see the cameras as even better still, and let's not forget just how strong the competition is, with the likes of the Xiaomi 13 Pro really kicking all of its competition hard in the cameras department. Where Honor has been particularly savvy, of course, is with the pricing: the Magic 5 Pro delivers a lot while sitting below that crucial four-figure asking price that so many other flagships demand. And if you're especially keen on getting an Android phone with a decent zoom camera then that ought to mean this Honor is on your shortlist.

HONOR Magic5 ProThe HONOR Magic5 Pro is definitely one of the best flagship phones to have come out in the first half of 2023. While the Android software still has a lot of room to improve, the hardware side is nothing less than premium. While it may not necessarily beat out some of its pricier competitors in terms of the best phone camera, it’s definitely no slouch either. The versatile camera system is a standout feature, offering impressive zoom capabilities and excellent night shot performance. However, the user interface and overall user experience falls short compared to some of its competitors. The software can feel bloated and the limited availability may be a concern for some consumers. Nevertheless, for those looking for a unique and high-performing smartphone, the Honor Magic 5 Pro is a great option to consider. Overall, the Honor Magic 5 Pro is a solid choice for those in the market for a high-performance smartphone with exceptional camera capabilities. The Honor Magic 5 Pro is undoubtedly a flagship-level offering that will grant a super user experience with the respective specs. However, there are some aspects that the smartphone lacks. For instance, it even looks like the Honor Magic 5, except it offers a triple camera setup. Although, the design is an aesthetic choice that depends on the user’s preference. But the rest of the factors of this phone are quite robust. The performance is good, offers a decent camera lens, higher storage capacity, faster-charging support, and impeccable display quality. But still, there’s no denying that the Samsung Galaxy S23 ultra stand tall in the competition, whether you talk about the performance or camera usage. The overall results are better in the S23 ultra. As limited as first impressions are, I think the Honor Magic 5 Pro could become one of my go-to Android flagships to recommend. If the GBP price remains in the spot that the Euros price suggests it will, it'll provide a handy option for users wanting more than a vanilla flagship phone can offer, but who don't want to pay up for a Galaxy S23 Ultra. Honor devices still aren't available in the U.S., leaving users there with the Pixel 7 series or the OnePlus 11 to fill a similar role. But U.K. users who don't mind the shorter software support period and like the sound of the display eye health features and impressive camera specs may want to keep an eye out for the Magic 5 Pro once the launch date and price gets announced, and we get to test the final version of Honor's phone.

So, should you buy the HONOR Magic5 Pro? Well, this phone does have a lot of competition out there. It does also combine a unique set of features not many other phones have. You’re getting top-of-the-line specs, excellent display and battery life, fast wired and wireless charging, and 3D facial scanning all in the same package. Not to mention an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and more. That being said, the biggest tradeoff here is HONOR’s UI, which needs work. It doesn’t really impact the performance as much as it stands in its own way, and lacks some features that should probably be there. If you, however, want a different experience, and you don’t mind what I’ve mentioned in the software section above, the HONOR Magic5 Pro is definitely worth checking out. If last year’s Magic 4 Pro was Honor testing the waters, the Magic 5 Pro is a confident cannonball into flagship territory. It’s got the looks to rub shoulders with the current crop of £1000-ish rivals (especially in Meadow Green), and on first inspection should have the performance to match. Image quality from that rear camera trio remains an unknown right now, however impressive it appeared during our demo session, as is battery life. But with a stunner of a screen, big battery and fast charging, there’s very little not to like. If Honor gets the price right, you may want to reconsider that Google Pixel 7 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23+ purchase.

The Honor Magic 5 Pro certainly looks like a tempting flagship with a rather unique curved design, a top-end display and camera performance to match, but it’ll have its work cut out to tempt fans from more established brands like Samsung and OnePlus. Can it do it? I feel confident, but I’ll leave my final thoughts for the full review in the coming weeks.

With a score of 151, the Honor Magic5 Pro display has found its way to the top of the DXOMARK ranking thanks to its well-rounded and consistent performance in all the key attributes. Although the Honor Magic5 Pro did not achieve the highest score in any of the attributes that go into calculating our Display overall score, it came very close in all categories, thereby achieving the kind of well-balanced performance DXOMARK looks for when ranking smartphones — and in this case, the Honor Magic5 Pro’s performance earned it the top spot in our Display database to date. Taking a closer look at its performance, the new Honor device provided very good readability, with tuning that made it comfortable to see in all tested lighting conditions. The Honor might not have the highest peak brightness as the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, but the Magic5 Pro managed its color and contrast better than some of its rivals. Its color was better than that of two of its direct competitors, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra; and although it fell behind the Samsung device for video, it nonetheless provided good HDR rendering. The Magic5 Pro’s touch was smooth, reactive, and accurate; and finally, it was flicker-free and ignored ghost touches.

The only unknown factor at this early stage is the price. With this much stuff on offer, I think it’s quite obvious that it won’t come cheap, although if Honor can undercut both Apple and Samsung with the Honor Magic 5 Pro’s pricing, I think we’ll definitely be on to a winner. The Honor Magic 5 Pro is expected to arrive in the UK later in the year, with my full verdict coming soon. We don't yet have the UK price, but we do know that it will cost €899 in Europe.

In the Magic 5 Pro, Honor has produced a smartphone that looks the part of a flagship device, with some impressive specs and interesting features - not to mention a few industry certifications to back it up. While the hardware all looks pretty promising, its ability to rise to the high expectations that come with flagship status does rely on how well the software performs and how long it is supported for. If it can deliver here too, this could be a real competitor.

The Honor Magic 5, Pro & Prestige are a trio of flagship smartphones likely to launch at MWC 2023 next month. Here's a preview of these fresh phones, including the mighty Honor Magic 5 Prestige with its 1-inch IMX989 camera sensor - its killer feature for taking pin-sharp night photos. The Honor Magic 5 serves up a bigger battery than the Pro and Prestige models, at 5000mAh vs 4800mAh. However, the more expensive phones deliver faster charging, plus wireless charge support. You also get 3D face recognition and proper water resistance, according to the latest leaks. The Honor Magic 5 Prestige, Pro and regular flavour should all be 6.8-inch beasts powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So expect slick gaming performance. Of course, this may all be a load of cobblers as it's just pre-launch leaks - stay tuned for unboxing and hands-on review videos following MWC 2023 on February 27!

Commentaire
Qualcomm Adreno 740:
