If the well-documented troubles between Huawei and the US government didn’t exist, it would be a simple process to recommend the £399 Honor 20 as the budget smartphone champion. With its complement of rear cameras, great battery life, flagship-level processor, a great screen, and a very affordable price, the only real competition for the Honor 20 is the rather drab-looking, but very popular Pixel 3a with its mid-range specs.

The Honor 20 isn't a perfect phone, but overall it makes a bit more sense than the Honor 20 Pro, which may have had some unnecessary value-adding features. The competition has been thriving, though, and while Honor and Huawei battled the Trump administration, the market hasn't been standing at one place. OnePlus and Asus have better devices priced very closely to the Honor 20, while Xiaomi is offering more for less with the Mi 9T.

The HONOR 20, then, is an impressive phone, especially for its asking price. It’s in many ways similar to the View20, but with the focus on photography bumped up. It also has a better fingerprint sensor position, as far as ergonomics go. You could say that the HONOR 20 is essentially the View20, but at a lower price and better ergonomics.

It’s unusual for recent SmartPhone launches to be made without review product being available, on one such recent launch I was told ‘next week’ and it has still not arrived, and here in the case of the Honor 20 it was nearly six weeks but it was launched just after a rant by Donald Trump against this phones parent company, still it has now arrived to receive tests over a very short two week timeframe.

Huawei, who owns the Honor brand, has confirmed that “Anyone who has already bought, or is about to buy a Huawei smartphone, can continue to access the world of apps as they have always done. All devices continue to be covered by our manufacturer’s warranty and will receive full service support accordingly.”. They have even set up a dedicated website to answer customer queries.

Yet, the bar for what constitutes a truly great mid-range phone has been irrevocably raised by Google’s achievements with the Pixel 3a. The Honor 20 may have just scraped over the bar this time, but in a post-Pixel 3a world it comes very close to falling underneath.

The HONOR 20 is powered by a 3,750mAh battery and has 22.5W SuperCharge tech for fast juicings. The combination of Magic UI’s deft power management and the general efficiency of the Kirin 980 processor easily gave us more than a day worth of heavy use at full tilt with data on all day, an hour or two of gaming, constant use of social media and texts as well as a good helping of Netflix on the go without the need to activate any battery saving modes. From a dry battery, it was able to get about a 50% charge in 30 minutes which is close to their officially quoted recharge times.

By the way, the HONOR 5th Anniversary promotion is still happening until 31 July 2019. You can get free gifts worth up to RM500 when you purchase the HONOR 20 at RM1699, which includes a Bluetooth SoundStone Bluetooth speaker, HONOR Band 4 and HONOR backpack.

Priced at Rs 32,999, the Honor 20 is a mixed bag of hits and misses. The phone would have been an undisputed winner if it had an optimised user interface with no pre-installed bloatware, besides telephoto lens for optical zoom, better display and no thermal issues. However, you can consider this phone for its imaging competence, premium design, sleek performance and decent on-battery time.

Honor used to have this area of the market pretty much to themselves however the playing field has become a lot more populated recently with some other big players such as Xioami, OnePlus and Asus all wanting a piece of the pitch. Even Google has now realised that this mid-tier is an important area for them so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. I am confident that Honor will be either at the top or very near with the Honor 20. Only time will tell on that one and I for one am excited at the prospect of the ensuing battle of the midtier device that will no doubt continue to run for the rest of the year if not longer.

The Honor 20 is another beautifully balanced, excellent value phone from the Huawei sub-brand. It’s extremely fast, well-designed, has a vibrant display, exemplary battery life, and a very capable quad-lens camera. At £400 (around $560, AU$810), it’s a bit of a steal. However, while the hardware news is nearly all positive, there’s some concern over the Honor 20’s software. Even placing the uncertainty surrounding all Huawei-linked smartphones aside for a moment, Magic UI remains an ugly mess of bloatware and needless tinkering. It’s quite possible to mold it into something more pleasant to use, and it’s never less than fast and reliable. But this is an inferior experience to the stock - or near-stock - Android experiences of other similarly-priced phones.

Given this Honor is half the price of the Samsung Galaxy S10 and £100 less than a OnePlus 7 tells you everything you need to know: this is a phone that can take on far pricier flagships in performance and design terms without leaving you out of pocket. As a standalone smartphone, there’s little wrong with the Honor 20. Overall, we can say that the device will not disappoint you when it comes to your day-to-day tasks. The smartphone offers a design that looks premium, packs a quad-camera setup, comes powered by a flagship processor and also includes a battery that will last long enough to not make you look for your charger multiple times a day. It offers reliable performance, good design and display and a reasonably good camera. Also, the company is offering up to 90% buyback guarantee on Honor 20 in case buyers choose to return the device.

At Rs 32,999, Honor 20 offers super-fast performance, premium finish, and good cameras. However, I do feel that the phone pales against the competition from the likes of OnePlus 7 and Asus 6Z. About a month ago, on a day as similarly hot as it is today, I was down in London attending the launch and announcement of the Honor 20 series. Whilst I was there I was mostly focused on the biggest brother in the lineup – the Honor 20 Pro. That phone has not been released as yet, but we have managed to get hold of the Honor 20 which shares a lot of the features of its more expensive sibling. It is an equally interesting device and is well worth a look, so let’s get into it.

Overall, the HONOR 20 is an impressive all-rounding package and an excellent affordable alternative to Huawei P30 Pro at a price of Rs. 32,999. Nonetheless, no phone is perfect, neither the HONOR 20. Due to the ongoing issues with the U.S government, it has its limitations, but that doesn’t stop us from recommending it since the company has promised Android Q update and security updates for the phone. In a nutshell, HONOR 20 has the great build quality, appealing design, smooth performance and a very good camera. It will be available from Flipkart starting June 25th.

Honor 20 is a very competitive option for its price. What particularly helps it stand out is its compact design and light profile, which is something most of its rivals like OnePlus 7 and Asus Zenfone 6Z don’t offer. It also benefits from a long-lasting battery and excellent performance. On the downside, there is no 3.5mm Audio jack and micro SD card support. Also, confirmation about Android Q update for the smartphone is still not there for the Indian consumers but as per reports from T3, the phone should get the update in coming months. So, should you buy the Honor 20? Well, there is no aspect where the Honor 20 particularly disappoints and if you prioritize a compact footprint for your next phone, the Honor 20 is definitely a phone you should consider.

Ultimately, the US market is unlikely to get Honor 20 anytime soon. And even if it did, we'd still recommend you buy the Google Pixel 3a. While the Honor 20 boasts a bigger screen and speedy performance, it simply can't beat the Pixel's camera or user interface. So even though the Honor 20 offers a very comfortable experience all around, it pays to take some risks.

You probably shouldn't buy the Honor 20 right now. It looks and feels great. It’s powerful. And while the camera array may seem better on paper than it is in person, it’s still great. If it were not for the “political” situation Huawei and Honor are currently in, the Honor 20 would be easy to recommend. It’s great value and a highly likeable phone, as long as you are not someone who insists the custom software from Honor and Huawei is still terrible.

The HONOR 20 is beautiful as well as a powerful smartphone. While it does have excellent features, the camera truly stands out for us. Honestly, that's a pretty good price as it already beats a few triple camera flagships around from a few Ringgit to a two thousand (for real). But the real competition it faces is the Xiaomi Mi 9 with the exact same price, carrying similar high-end tech specs such as the Snapdragon 855 chipset. This is a pretty tough fight, and we like both phones a lot. So I guess it just comes down to which brand you prefer in that matchup.

The Honor 20 impressed us with its eye-catching design and good overall performance. The phone runs the feature-rich Magic UI 2.1 and rounds it off with all-day battery life. The starting price of Rs. 32,999 is definitely competitive for the experience and hardware you get. However, this phone is not without its flaws, especially in the camera department. The Honor 20 struggles with colour accuracy, and the benefits of having a dedicated macro lens aren't delivered. The lack of OIS is also sorely disappointing, more so when the alternative provided cannot deliver on its promise.

In the UK at least, the Honor 20 is good value. For £399, you get a phone that’s powerful and has a great screen. Cameras, too, are impressive for the price and battery life is very good. Combined, these make the Honor 20 a great all-rounder with no obvious weak areas.

There are a lot of questions regarding the future of Honor phones, but the present is still very much in good hands. The Honor 20 is a fantastic premium smartphone that comes at a mid-range price point of Rs 32,999. Like the View 20, the Honor 20 offers a standout design with a punch-hole display, compact form and a unique glass back. But Honor doesn't solely rely on looks. The Honor 20 is as powerful a phone as they come in 2019. The Kirin 980 SoC is not just a powerful and snappy processor, but a highly power efficient one at that. To top it off, you get some versatile cameras that do impressively well in most lighting conditions. EMUI with its bloatware and heavy customisations may not rub off well with consumers. At this same price point, you have the OnePlus 7 which offers a cleaner Android Pie experience and faster performance with the Snapdragon 855 chipset along with an AMOLED display. The Honor 20, however, offers a more versatile set of camera that can do things that the OnePlus 7 cannot.

Priced at Rs. 32,999, the Honor 20 comes with a trendy design and a very impressive spec sheet. While it delivers when it comes to general performance, the device disappoints in the camera department. The phone goes head to head with OnePlus 7 which is the phone to beat in the segment, packing great specs and performance, and comes with a formidable reputation. The Honor 20 is not a bad device by any standards but it is definitely facing an uphill battle against the mighty OnePlus warrior, which stands in its way to keep it from getting to the top. Unless it radically improves that camera (bring on them software updates), we do not see it unsettling the Never Settled One (Plus).

The Honor 20 presents a serious problem for the Honor 20 Pro, as it's basically the same phone but cheaper, and what downgrades there are don't detract greatly from the user experience. With its easy-on-the-hand design and powerful camera array, the phone felt enjoyable to hold and play with, which isn't something you can say about all phones just from picking them up. Commentaire
ARM Mali-G76 MP10:
