L'heure du come back pour HTC ?

All in all the HTC U Play is one attractive device that performs well in its class. It’s not as powerful as its other siblings but it’s got a capable hardware like the Helio P10 CPU, 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage. For those who like taking photos, the 16MP rear and front camera can do its job well.

HTC’s U Play is one of the nicest looking mid-range phones we’ve ever tested. There’s really something to be said about the Liquid Surface treatment that HTC puts on their new smartphones that makes them stand out from the sea of similarly built metal-frame and glass-backed phones.

That’s pretty much it for this hands-on. We have no idea of pricing for the HTC U Play as of yet – we’ll all have to find out together when HTC officially announces local pricing by next month.

HTC u play is a perfect and easy to handle LTE enabled device with 64GB ROM and 4GB RAM. The main disadvantage of u play is that it doesn’t have audio jack. Camera has shown us brilliant results while we were expecting much better battery power than this 2500 mAh. The device has very light weight but the price is little expensive which can low-down its market.

There are significant differences between the two phones under the hood as well. Where the Ultra gets a 2.15GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, the Play is equipped with a MediaTek Helio P10 processor, and it’s only available in 32G and 64GB flavours. Both phones have microSD slots for storage expansion up to a theoretical 2TB.

The HTC U Play is less divisive than its big brother. It's easier to use, does everything well and represents great value. It's also one of the prettiest phones ever made.

HTC U Play is overall a decent experience for anyone who prefers a high-end compact phone experience, however, the price that HTC is asking for sounds very steep.

It's hard to figure out who HTC was aiming this phone at – it's a decent mid-ranger, but there's better out there for the same price or less. It's not bad by any means, but like HTC's terrible puns, it's probably not going to delight U.

The HTC U Play is a neat little device with striking looks and smooth all-round performance. It has a good display, the cameras are very capable, and battery life is not too shabby for such a small body. The phone will be going on sale in the second week of April, according to HTC. We weren't able to get any definitive timeline for the rollout of an Android Nougat update, but it should be in the works.

The HTC U Play offers a very pleasant design to look and hold, a simple but functional interface, and decent picture and video capture abilities. It has a steep hill to climb against its direct competitors like the Galaxy A5 (2017), Moto G5 Plus, or the honor 8, though.

HTC U Play is certainly a new approach from HTC in the smartphone space. The U Play does bank heavily on the new aesthetics and the software coupled with a decent camera. However, a MediaTek Helio P10 in a smartphone priced at Rs 39,990 will raise a lot of eyebrows. As is the case with every other HTC device, the U Play might have stretched the price too high.

The mid-range U Play will follow sometime in March (an exact launch date hasn't been announced yet) for S$548. The 5.2-inch U Play has a Full HD Super LCD display and is powered by a Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 processor.

The HTC U Play is a good phone that's let down on three counts. Its camera is often far too laggy, some games don’t run that well, and the battery life isn’t good enough. Some won't like HTC's decision to kill the headphone jack, either. While the rest of the handset is solid – particularly its build and look – these issues are enough to make the phone a tough sell at £400.

HTC U Play highlights the fact that compact premium devices still exist in the smartphone industry today. However, while the device does come with a premium design and somewhat premium specifications, the premium price along with it is surely a gamble here from HTC. Priced at Rs 39,990, HTC U Play seems to be a decent device overall, but we are not so sure if it can justify the price.

Powering the U Ultra is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB RAM. While this is currently Qualcomm's top of the line processor, it's due to be replaced by the Snapdragon 835 within the next few months. Inside the U Play is the mid-range Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 processor and 3GB RAM. Both phones come with 64GB internal storage, and you also get a microSD card slot that is compatible with cards up to 2TB.

This is a phone that looks and feels expensive enough for its £400 price, but the closer you get, more and more of the little things you notice chip away at its appeal. Top-end games don’t run as well as they should, the camera is a lag-fest at times, and you have to be pretty careful to get through the day without needing to plug in.

With the U Ultra taking most of the limelight thanks to that spiffy secondary display, there’s a danger that the U Play will go by unnoticed. That’d be a real shame, as if HTC gets the price right, it could be a real mid-range winner.

While I can’t say how successful the AI-based software will be, first impressions suggest that HTC is at least on to another design winner. The glass body is gorgeous and perfectly sized, while the internals revealed so far should comfortably get the job done.

We're still waiting on the price and to test the AI features out properly, but the new HTC U Play might appeal to some. Its glass design is eye-catching and the phone is a far more manageable size than the U Ultra. Look out for a full review soon.

HTC's 2017 strategy so far appears to be "get some phones out the door before everyone manages to steal the spotlight from us." That's not reassuring, and neither of the products they've unveiled seem a resounding vindication of that approach. We'll have to wait for a review to really get our opinions firm, but I can't say I'm optimistic.

The HTC U Play is the smaller than the new HTC U Ultra, but we wouldn't call it the runt. It's meant to be a more affordable version of HTC's new line of phones that use AI, or artificial intelligence, software to try giving you a more streamlined experience.

As much as I love the new HTC U smartphones, I am still a little disappointed and have hoped for more, apart from being the first smartphone to have AI, which is still a untested feature, HTC has made just another new flagship smartphone that probably isn’t going to WOW the smartphone industry like it did with the One M7. HTC says the U Ultra and Play are just the very beginning of what they have to offer, and there will be more exciting models to come later this year. I certainly can’t wait to see what HTC has to offer, especially the rumoured Vive capable smartphone, the company really needs to shine beyond just making beautiful smartphones, and I can’t wait to perform a full review on the U Ultra and U Play.

It’s tough to say whether this is an impressive phone, as without a price there’s no baseline to compare it against. Make it cheap and this is a beautifully-designed handset with a lot of spec for not much money; but give it a high RRP and it’ll just fade into the background among the hundreds of other mid-range phones out there.

ARM Mali-T860 MP2:
