Critiques pour le/la HTC One Mini 2
Comme Papa... ?

The Galaxy Alpha marks a new beginning for Samsung, which HTC may view as trespassing on their premium territory. Samsung may have found a weakness - HTC have a proper full-size flagship but their compact offering feels like a midranger at times. The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has more devices to worry about, the high-profile targets being the Apple iPhone 6 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The HTC One mini 2 is cheaper than all three and the iPhone is the only one matching its metal unibody.

t's a close call here with two very similarly kitted out smartphones. However, the HTC One mini 2 pips it for us with its superior design, cheaper price tag and better software. We'd understand if you wanted to spend the extra for the Galaxy S5 mini's fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and IR blaster, though.

While the name isn’t quite accurate, the HTC’s One Mini 2 gets close to offering a miniature version of HTC’s One. If you love the look and feel of HTC’s 5 inch One but the size doesn’t quite match up, we’d look at the One Mini 2. If that extra half an inch doesn’t matter much, the features and build differences make the HTC One M8 a better deal altogether, but if 5 inches is a deal breaker, this is one phone you’ll want to check out.

Considering it almost at the end of its year as Apple's number one, the iPhone 5s still stacks up extremely well against a mid-ranged Android handset. Performance is a win for the iPhone, as is the camera. The displays are a choice between big for viewing pleasure, and small for handling ease. The HTC is more robust, the iPhone more beautiful. And storage options favour the HTC, without it being an entirely clear cut choice. If Apple does as some suggest keep the iPhone 5s as a slightly cheaper option, it will not be a bad deal for new smartphone buyers.

It follows on from the original HTC One mini and is a smaller, cheaper and cutdown version of the M8. As such, you can pick it up for a mid-range price of around £350 on a SIM-free basis. The HTC One mini 2 looks and feels like the flagship HTC One M8. It's smaller in size and lighter but slightly thicker.

The HTC One mini 2 is one of the better examples of a mid-ranged version of a flagship smartphone. It has the same premium feel as the M8 with only a few downgrades - namely a lower res screen and no Duo Camera or IR blaster. The camera is a little disappointing but good performance and software balance things out.

The One mini 2 is as confusing a device as its name. With some components dumbed down significantly from the One M8 (processor, RAM, screen, battery) and others arguably raised significantly (camera), this is a device that needs to be assessed on its own terms rather than in relation to its ancestors. The paradox is that in many ways, as a day to day phone, I enjoyed using the HTC One mini 2 more than its larger sisters – the hand-friendly size and shape, the overall package, and yes, the camera, impressed me. It remains to be seen how many of the target market will look past the confusing name, pick the device up, fall in love and end up agreeing with me.

HTC has crafted another beautiful handset in the One mini 2, but we can't help but wonder if it's speedy enough. It's armed with the same processor as Motorola's budget Moto G, but with a much heftier £360 price tag. You do get the solid M8 build though, as well as Boomsound speakers and a camera than sometimes outdoes the original M8's. There are compromises, but its solid chassis makes for an alluring handset that's hard to pass up.

The HTC One M8 either bests or matches the HTC One mini 2 in every category we cover here. And the difference in price isn't enough to make it a good deal in comparison. For those really looking to save some cash on an Android smartphone the best deal will most likely come from the £149 2014 Motorola Moto G.

The HTC One mini 2 doesn’t knock it out the park, then, but neither does it disappoint in the same way that the One mini of last year did. It’s easy to see how a new smartphone buyer, lured into a store by the One M8 but turned off by the price, might look at the smaller device and consider it a saving worth making. Similarly, those who want a more hand-friendly form factor have fewer than the usual compromises to stomach. It’s certainly a much-needed phone in HTC’s range, though only time will tell whether it’s sufficiently affordable to fill in the gaping midrange gap.

We’re still confirming the One Mini 2’s retail price, but we expect it'll be considerably cheaper than other Android flagships. Despite this, it offers one of the most premium examples of smartphone build quality around - a fantastic achievement on HTC's part. Its BoomSound speakers are seriously impressive, Sense 6.0 is as pretty as ever, and its camera - while not the best we've seen overall - is more than capable, and even outshines the flagship One (M8) in specific scenarios.

The HTC One Mini 2 is a solid improvement on what was already one of the best smaller-sized handsets out there. The build quality is fantastic and it actually feels and looks better than the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact while the addition of a microSD card slot is extremely welcome. It’s not a revolution in how you can cram power into a smaller package, instead it’s a leaner creation, focusing on doing the small things well while making it through to the end of the day.

This is a difficult one. Just like its larger, more expensive compatriot the One M8, the One Mini 2 is a great-looking phone. It has a great screen, too, a better camera and improved battery life compared to the One Mini, and better than average speakers. But it's hard to escape the feeling it's a little pricey considering the alternatives available.

The HTC One Mini 2 is certainly a good looking phone, and is far more desirable than any other mid-range handset, but when its underlying hardware is essentially the same as a Motorola Moto G, it feels overpriced. The One Mini 2’s camera is a definite step up from most lower-end phones, but ultimately the One Mini 2 is a pale imitation of the original One M8. If you're looking for a great value phone, the award-winning Motorola Moto X and Google Nexus 5 are much better buys.

The new HTC One Mini 2 is a solid compact Android smartphone. While it doesn't have the high end specifications of the M8, it is not designed to be the flagship device. It holds its own and I honestly had lots of trouble developing a cons list for a device of this class and target audience. While the price may be a bit on the higher end for a compact version of the M8, it is still quite a bit less expensive than the One M8 and other flagship products. The One Mini 2 is for the buyer who wants a smaller phone and in that regard I think it meets its goal.

HTC's One mini 2 is a fantastic-looking phone with much of the One M8's appeal. Beneath the brushed-aluminum body is capable internal hardware, even if it's not a huge improvement over last year's One mini. The 13-megapixel camera leaves a lot to be desired, but if you want the M8's premium design at a cheaper price or in a smaller form factor, you won't be disappointed.

I like the idea of a smaller HTC One M8, one which is more manageable in the hand and easier to slide into a pocket. With the HTC One Mini 2 the Taiwanese firm has manage to keep the beautiful stylings, but on the inside it feels like attention to detail waned a little, with a sub-par processor and a battery which doesn't do the phone justice. That said, compare it to its size rivals - the iPhone 5S and 5C, Xperia Z1 Compact and Ascend P7 - and the One Mini 2 is still a very capable handset at a reasonable price point.

Like last year, HTC released a smaller cousin of their flagship device. The new HTC One Mini 2 should be called the M8 Mini and it is great to see this device perform well in a small form factor. The new HTC One Mini 2 is a solid compact Android smartphone. While it doesn't have the high end specifications of the M8, it is not designed to be the flagship device. It holds its own and I honestly had lots of trouble developing a cons list for a device of this class and target audience.

The HTC One M8 either bests or matches the HTC One mini 2 in every category we cover here. However, it also costs twice the price. The HTC One mini 2 will be a good deal at around £300, and it may be better-tuned to those with smaller hands. But there's little in the One mini 2's spec that makes it stand out against 2013 flagships, and for those really looking to save some cash on an Android smartphone the best deal will most likely come from the £149 2014 Motorola Moto G.

The HTC One (M8) dethroned the LG G2 as Stuff’s favourite phone in the world, and it’s successfully fended off attacks from the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2. And now it’s got a smaller sibling – the HTC One Mini 2.

The HTC One Mini 2 isn't a straight switch to a smaller format - there's a slight drop in specs but from what we've seen the changes are impressivly balanced with the Mini 2 feeling every bit as fast as the M8. Of course the big question will be whether the Mini 2 can still offer everyday performance, a flagship-quality camera experience and a battery life that can compete with its rivals - stay tuned for our full review...

The HTC One Mini 2 is a beautifully designed smartphone with a reasonable feature set providing a pleasing advance on its predecessor. Altogether it creates a package which rivals the equally pocketable iPhone 5S in terms of premium appeal and raw power. If you're looking for the best of HTC the One Mini 2 comes close, but you'll want to plump for its fully fledged bigger brother the One M8 for the true experience.

Commentaire
