There's not much to complain about in the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip, beyond its asking price. The design, the screen, the versatility and the sheer quality of the keyboard/touchpad inputs all shine. You have to go digging to find much wrong here! As with other second-generation Intel Ultra chipset PCs, the raw CPU performance is not too impressive on paper. But, for most people, that will be amply repaid by the battery life, graphics power, efficiency and low noise. You can find other Intel or Snapdragon PCs that last a bit longer, or are a bit thinner or lighter. But, true to its OmniBook name, the Ultra Flip can simply do more than just about any direct rival right now. But, still, you’d better get saving...

The HP OmniBook’s combination of the latest Intel processor with a sharp OLED screen looks like a good mix for creative users on the move. However, thanks to the integrated GPU and the power-efficiency focus of the new chip, it’s more suited to office work, presentations, and drawing in tablet mode than it is to pushing large numbers of pixels. It remains an excellent design, with a distinctive look and plenty to recommend it, but it won’t dethrone the MacBook Pro as the studio machine of choice.

There are a few different options for the 14in OmniBook Ultra; you can have it in different formats or with different processors. However, the Intel-powered Flip model is a solid choice, with its fast Ultra 7 chip, colorful display, and comfortable keyboard. Although its benchmarks were strong, we can't say this format is more useful than just a standard laptop when it comes to work. You'll need to ask yourself if the stylus is something you really need – though the Ultra Flip does work surprisingly well with image editing. In summary, the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is not quite 'Ultra', as such, but it is still very good.

The OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a great travel companion, and I mean it. It has never let me down with any tasks I do on a computer. Plus, the 16-hour battery life means you’ll stay productive even if your workload requires sustained performance. The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 delivers a premium experience, and you’re paying the big bucks for the 2-in-1 form factor, better performance, and long battery life.

HP recently discounted the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14-inch laptop, and the 1TB model is currently selling for $1,200 at Best Buy. It normally retails for $1,600. At $1,200, I do recommend buying this laptop. It is a lightweight machine with a great display, plenty of storage, and a long-lasting battery. If you're open to alternatives, I've tested and recommend the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441, which houses a better-performing Snapdragon X Elite chipset, a slightly longer battery life, and a wider selection of ports on the side. There's also MSI's Prestige AI Plus Evo, if you value portability. This ultra-lightweight laptop has a stunning 2.8K OLED display and solid performance courtesy of an Intel Lunar Lake processor.

The HP Omnibook Ultra Flip 14 isn’t perfect, but it does offer a few unexpected strengths that could make it a good fit for certain users. While it fell behind its rivals on overall performance and display quality, the Omnibook’s integrated graphics handle casual gaming very well and the built-in microphone is much better than most other laptops. It also showed strong AI performance and features a design that’s hard not to like. However, if battery life is a top priority for you, you may want to consider a Qualcomm-powered laptop like the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus. Alternatively, if you specifically want a laptop for work with good battery life, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 currently holds Laptop Mag’s record for longest-lasting battery.

The OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is sturdy, well built, and has epic battery life. The keyboard also offers a comfortable typing experience and the track pad is easy to use. But it also has flaws, some of which are outside of HP’s control. If your everyday laptop tasks demand multi-threading performance, then the latest Intel processor falls short. While that’s by design, it’s still something to consider. I’m also not a fan of the port placement and, more importantly, the few choices you get in that area. The bloatware bugs me, too. At this price, suddenly having McAfee rear its ugly head not only on the laptop itself but in my e-mails since the trial arrived expired leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The push for AI, both from Microsoft and HP, also falls flat. But it’s all a matter of what you want and need. If you’re looking for a solid 2-in-1 that gets the job done and you can get behind the idea of efficiency over power, then the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is worth your consideration.

The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 feels familiar in some ways and distinctly different in others. It features the new Intel Core Ultra Series 2 chip, specifically the Core Ultra Series 7 238V, with an 8-core, 8-thread design and a boost clock of up to 4.7GHz. A significant change this time is that the RAM modules are integrated directly onto the CPU die—a design choice seemingly inspired by the latest ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite chips. While the X Elite chips offer a snappy experience and impressive battery life, can we expect the same from the new Intel Core Ultra Series 2? Here’s my HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 review.

HP is selling the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14-inch laptop for $1,600 on its digital storefront. At this price, it's tougher to recommend this over some of the fantastic laptops we've tested at ZDNET that sell for hundreds of dollars less. The price tag is too high for my liking, especially given the performance and bloatware, although if you're looking for a lightweight portable with a great screen, HP's Omnibook is a worthy pick.

The Spectre x360 14 was a great laptop, maybe the best example of the 360-degree convertible 2-in-1. With HP’s rebranding, I was wondering how much else would change with the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14. Fortunately, I didn’t have to worry too much. There’s really not a lot to dislike about the OmniBook. It gets very good battery life, has a gorgeous OLED display, and it look and feels great. Its performance isn’t the best, but it’s fast enough, and its keyboard and touchpad are excellent. It’s most attractive, though, at its sale prices.
