The V-Series from Doogee stands out for its obvious superiority in the value-for-price point as a rugged smartphone series, which makes its phones shine every year in this category. The Doogee V20 has a good-sized 6,000mAh battery which will give you several days of normal usage. Using the Type-C–Type-C PD charging cable will give you up to 33W charging power which will recharge the phone in about 2 hours. This phone also has wireless charging, but be aware that wireless charging is significantly slower than a TypeC PD cable: It took over 4 hours when I used wireless charging. It also has NFC so you can use Google Pay. There is no audio slot for this phone. Connect your headphones via Bluetooth or use a type-C adapter if you want to use wired audio. The phone ring tone is reasonably loud and the sound is good across the ranges. You won't need an external speaker. Doogee recommends that you use T-Mobile for the optimal frequency band for this phone.

Here comes the all-important question: is the Doogee V20 worth your money? The price point sits at around $400, which sits comfortably in the lower-middle of the mid-range when it comes to smartphone prices. For that cost, you get a phone that seems like it could straight up survive a nuclear blast and will stand up to the sort of abuse that can only come from absent-mindedly holding your phone while cooking or walking somewhere. The camera array on the back is pretty good quality for a mid-range smartphone but has a few key features that are lacking. Overall, the Doogee V20 rugged smartphone feels like it’s designed for someone who is fed up with replacing their smartphone every month because they can’t stop dropping it. It provides average performance, but unless you’re chasing a high-end gaming experience, you probably won’t notice a stark difference between this and any other phone in the price range. In short, this is a phone with one key goal: to survive. All other bells and whistles may look nice in the advert, but they’re not the main reason you should be buying this phone.

Doogee is one of the smaller Chinese phone brands primarily focused on rugged designs meant for those that work outdoors or in challenging industrial environments. A few months ago, it launched the V10, an aggressively priced flagship 5G design that was both IP68 and IP69K rated. Selling well by Doogee standards, the V10 has been rapidly followed by the V20. Essentially a V10 put with a better display, a better camera, more memory, more storage and some unique extra features. Is it worth the £399 that Doogee is asking over the more affordable V10? Let’s find out. The V20 offers excellent value and has a more elegant yet rugged design than we’ve come to expect. The AMOLED screen is stunning, but limiting it to Widevine L3 DRM means that you can’t use it to view Netflix or Disney+ in better than 480p.

ARM Mali-G57 MP2:
