Ultimately the Dell XPS14 is a rock solid system and didn't disappoint today. If you're looking to invest into an ultrabook, the XPS14 would be a great one to get your hands on. The Standard 1 year is included, the first level of the three year is $199, the Dell recommended is $219, and the best which includes Accidental Damage Service is $349. Depending on how long you plan on keeping the XPS14 and how easy or hard you are on, you may want to invest in the 'Best' just in case you accidentally throw it across the parking lot.

Dell's XPS 14 tries to offer a potentially more feature rich ultrabook but comes up short due to its overall size and pricing. It certainly is heavier and taller than most other 14-inch ultrabooks. It makes up for this by having better than average battery life and a screen with a higher resolution than most its competition.

In the end, price may be a key factor. The XPS 14 we tested costs $1,499, a neighborhood that's crowded with strong alternatives, ranging from the 14-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon$1,214.10 at Lenovo to the 13-inch Apple MacBook Air, each of which weigh more than one-third less (though they also have less RAM and storage, among other differences).

Despite being quite lovely to look at, and even lovelier in the flesh, Dell’s XPS 14 has some serious issues to contend with. At this price, we’d have hoped for a far superior display, and it’s clear that cramming a dedicated graphics chipset into such an attractive, slimline chassis isn’t as easy as it looks. There’s a huge amount of promise, but alas this power-packed Ultrabook just doesn’t make the grade.

The Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook brings a simplistic metal style that will be instantly familiar to anyone who's spent much time with an Apple MacBook. It's packing the latest Intel processors and a healthy helping of RAM, which makes even the base model a powerful machine. It doesn't come cheap, but if you're looking for performance on the move and don't want a chomped apple shape on the front of your laptop, the new XPS 14 is definitely worth checking out.

On the whole, the XPS 14 has a lot to offer notebook users who can get past its weight and are willing to shell out a bit extra for its multimedia and gaming potential. Despite the great battery life, I'd recommend this one more for occasional travelers than frequent fliers.

All in all, the Dell XPS 14 is an interesting laptop. Like most XPSs, build quality and aesthetics are some of its greatest assets, next to the comfortable keyboard and trackpad. And the battery life is something that sets this particular unit apart from most of the competitors. But then again, so does the price and the screen is for sure something Dell should have taken better care of, as it’s just not good enough for a laptop in this price range.

Dell's XPS 14 features an Ivy Bridge processor and discrete graphics, which make it quite powerful for its form factor. It's a decent Ultrabook overall, but not without its problems. It could use a screen with better vertical viewing angles and a USB port on the right side wouldn't hurt either. Consider it if you want a relatively mobile laptop with good overall performance and battery life, and business features such as TPM and Gigabit Ethernet.

The Dell XPS 14 is one of the newest Ultrabooks on the market today. It has a new, Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive jammed into a compact body. It has a nice-looking display and extra long battery life, but the screen's viewing angles could be better.

The Dell XPS 14 certainly wins points for styling, screen resolution, Core i7 power, and battery life. But those wins are tempered by the system's merely okay 3D performance, bulky size and weight, and high price. The XPS 14 will appeal to those who want just a bit more and are prepared to pay more than a bit for it.

Dell has introduced two new ultrabooks to its XPS range in the shape of the XPS 14 and XPS 15 and Pocket-lint has been lucky enough to get some hands-on time with both.

We thought the XPS 13 was brilliant, but it had one problem - screen real estate. The XPS 14 solves this and is a really rather fine laptop. The XPS 13 wasn't the cheapest Ultrabook around and neither is the XPS 14, but we're really looking forward to seeing this one again for our full XPS 14 review.

It was difficult to get an accurate impression of the laptop’s audio talents, but we can say that in every other regard the XPS 14 makes a worthy larger sibling to the XPS 13, correcting some of its flaws like limited connectivity and average screen resolution. If Dell can keep its pricing competitive, this latest XPS Ultrabook should do well.

Forget the image of Dell laptops as generic-looking plastic boxes (or, less generously, cheap-looking ones). The flagship of Dell's revamped laptop line, the XPS 14 is a worthy competitor to something like the MacBook Pro, and the two systems share a similar aesthetic. But Dell's new Inspiron ultrabook is nearly as good, and a lot less expensive.

It's easy to see the XPS 14 as just a slightly larger version of the 13 that came so recently before, but that's far from telling the full story. Yes, this looks an awful lot like that one, but it's considerably heavier, considerably faster and has a considerably better trackpad. It is, therefore, a considerably better laptop -- if you don't mind that extra heft -- but it's far from perfect.

What good is an Ultrabook if you have to take the charger with you? Dell's approach with its new XPS 14z (starting at $1,099) is to pack a beefier battery than the competition does in exchange for a chunkier (albeit striking) design. The Dell XPS 14 is one of the longest lasting Ultrabooks yet and features Nvidia graphics, but the relatively heavy weight and high price give us pause.

Commentaire
