The Dell Studio 15 laptop sells a price of for Rs. 48,400 on Dell’s website. For that price, you get a premium home entertainment laptop that’s very well built with extensive features, has very good hardware and offers decent overall performance. Reasons to buy the Studio 15 over the Inspiron 15R is the choice of screen lid, extensive custom upgrade options, and superior onboard audio and performance.

The Studio 15 we received comes to a total of Rs. 48,700 with delivery. This machine isn't ergonomically the best out there. It's got souped up specs (except for the graphics chip) inside, enclosed in a what can be called in today's day and age a 'bulky' body. The main incentive to buy a Studio 15 is the option to upgrade to a Full HD screen and a Blu-ray drive. Otherwise for Rs. 50,000 you get the HP Pavilion DV6-3057tx, which comes with a higher-power ATI Radeon 5650 chip. It has a Core i3 processor (although clocked at a similar 2.4 GHz speed, but no Turbo boost). But on the good side, it comes with that chiclet keyboard we like. Then there's also the Asus N61J, which has a potent NVIDIA GT325M graphics chip, and also pulls extra tricks like auto-graphics switching (NVIDIA Optimus) to save battery life, and USB 3.0 support. If you want something cheaper, there's always the Acer Aspire 5740G with the same Radeon 5650 graphics chip for a whole Rs. 10,000 less. The Studio 15 is a decent laptop overall, but there's nothing that stands out for us to go out and hoot about it. Especially after the Inspiron line drawing so close to the Studio, there's not much different between the two. The Studio series is in need of a refresh. If you're just looking for a typical big screened laptop to do your office work, the Inspiron 15R should do just fine.

If you prefer a custom-designed laptop over a laptop that performs better and offers better features, the Dell Design Studio is the way to go. And, if you prefer performance over a custom design, then it’s better to spend a few thousand rupees extra and get something really powerful, hint Intel Core i7 variant.

If there's one thing we didn't expect to find in our latest laptop group test, it was a laptop with a new Core i7 processor inside. But that's exactly what Dell has done, cramming the entry-level Core i7-720QM into its Studio 15. In fact, our only real concern is that the Studio 15 struggles to keep cool when pushed to the edge of its considerable capabilities (see opposite), but, for this price, the Studio 15 offers an unbeatable combination of power and poise.

Dell's design of Studio chassis is a sound foundation for building a solid laptop. Dell has managed to equip the very latest Studio 15 with enough performance and ports to make it an outstanding notebook in the key areas of comfort, longevity and outright speed. It’s a little heavier than the competition but it feels like it’s built to last. At this price, and with this performance and build, it’s laptop Gold.

The latest Intel Core i5-packing Dell Studio 15 got its first official airing at CES. But does the spanking new chip, combined with one of Dell’s sleeker designs, do the business? Hop in now and read our Dell Studio 15 review and we’ll tell you just what we make of it. An ace laptop that moves along at a stunning pace.

For the money, the Studio 15 is a very well equipped laptop and its performance scores are not to be sniffed at. It may not be the most portable of machines and its battery life is a little on the low side, but if you're happy to stay still and near mains power you won't be disappointed. Add in the ability to choose a distinctive case design and you've got a good looking, well specified, decent performing laptop for a reasonable price tag.

This summer, Dell updated its Studio line with colorful cases and a gorgeous high-definition screen. The laptop calls to mind other entertainment notebooks, such as the higher-end Dell Studio XPS 16 and the Lenovo Ideapad Y650, but it starts at just $599, a fraction of the cost. We tested a $1,094 configuration and found that the new Studio 15 has strong performance to match its striking looks. The Studio 15’s stylish (and customizable) case, gorgeous screen, and strong performance make it a media lover’s dream.

Dell's 15" Studio is the best all-round mainstream laptop currently available at this price. Those seeking a gaming laptop should look elsewhere, but for practically every other use the Dell Studio 15 is comfortably the best in this group test. Its all-round abilities are amazing, especially considering the price, and we feel it's the best mainstream laptop you can currently buy.

Dell's Studio 15 laptop is designed as an alternative to the lower cost Inspiron or the more expensive XPS. While it does offer some compelling features and very attractive price, it ends up as a fairly average thin and light system. Dell offers a wide range of configuration options that can match a wide range of budget and features but they fall short in a couple of areas. First, the dedicated graphics are quite weak compared to other company offerings and the case is thicker than it really should be.

The Dell Studio 15 is a reasonable compromise between portability and price. The screen is great and the keyboard highly usable. However, battery life is poor and performance, at this price, is satisfactory rather than outstanding.

Dell's Studio 15 can be characterised in two ways. Without the 1,440 x 900 it's a very good, but not quite outstanding, 15.4 inch notebook that has a strong but not dazzling design - not at least till you opt for the Mike Ming lid designs - and standard feature sets and pricing that are competitive but not outrageously so. With the 1,440 x 900 WLED display, however, you have a different proposition entirely. It's a feature that few can offer and given you can have it and not sacrifice too much in terms of specification or price over competing models, it helps elevate the Studio 15 to an award.

New lines from Dell don't come along too often, so the recently announced Studio line has understandably garnered plenty of column inches. Designed to sit between the low-end Inspiron and high-end XPS families, it comes in 15in and 17in flavours and its target audience could be pretty much anyone: few laptops are as customisable as this. A solid, stylish and comfortable debut, but it's too expensive in this configuration

At the end of the day the Studio 15 is a solid offering in the 15-inch consumer notebook category. The build quality, range of customizable options, expandability, style, and price make this an excellent choice if you're in the market for a 15-inch notebook. Still, we would have liked to see more graphics card options than just the integrated Intel X3100 and dedicated ATI Radeon HD 3450. Issues like lack of VGA cable screw posts, dedicated docking station connector, or lack of a simple RAM expansion cover are minor, and many experienced users may find the all-in-one access panel on the bottom of the notebook to be extremely helpful. The pre-configured model we tested suffered from weak integrated graphics that ruined an otherwise enjoyable experience, but configurations with dedicated graphics are available from Dell.com.

Parsing the intended markets for Dell's ever-shifting in-house brand names requires some tea-leaf reading. It's been easier lately, with the company stripping down its consumer brands to just the Inspiron and XPS lines. Now the company is adding a new line between the budget Inspiron and the high-end XPS. The new Studio line, as personified by the 15.4-inch Studio 15, has the same tapered shape, slot-loading optical drive and rounded hinge as the Dell XPS M1530, but a similarly configured Studio system costs roughly £350 less than a similarly outfitted XPS. Dell's first release from its new Studio line, the Studio 15, sits between the Inspiron and XPS lines and offers a good mix of features for the price, but we'd be tempted to save up a few extra pounds for a thinner, lighter XPS.

When Dell crossed the bargain pricing of its Inspiron laptops with the design sense of its XPS line, something sensational emerged—a new mainstream laptop line called Dell Studio. With the new line, Dell hopes to reel in the latest generation of back-to-schoolers, content creators, social-network addicts, and camera enthusiasts, just to name a few groups. Retaining many of the XPS's qualities while selling it for Inspiron prices is what makes this Studio laptop a winner.
