While Dell's Inspiron 15R isn't going to distinguish itself from the competition in terms of performance for an under $600 laptop, it certainly makes up for it with flexibility. Most companies tend to skimp on peripheral ports, but Dell gives both USB 3.0 and eSATA for those looking to expand their laptops storage.

There’s not much else, good or bad, to say about the Dell Inspiron 15R (I15RN-5882DBK). It’s not quite as adept an overall performer as the Editors’ Choice models, the Asus U56E-BBL6 or Lenovo IdeaPad V570-1066AJU, but it’s certainly never disappointing, either. If every last drop of processing potential matters to you, either of those machines would be a better way to go. But if you’re content with paying less, the I15RN-5882DBK won’t make you feel like you’re compromising too much.

With the 15R, Dell has put together a versatile 15.6in budget to midrange laptop that doesn’t compromise on connectivity. Relatively minor weaknesses with its keyboard aside, it holds up well overall, with the interchangeable lids being a great way to change the design according to your mood or to match the colour of your shoes (if you’re that way inclined). Unfortunately, at the moment its pricing doesn’t make it the most competitive option out there, and without other areas where it truly excels, it’s worth checking out alternatives.

With the last version of the Dell 15R, gaming was well-nigh impossible, but this version’s premium quality display and the Core i5 processor-Nvidia pairing make the Dell 15R a very impressive all-rounder whether for office or gaming use. Needless to say, any machine which can handle current games will have no problem running office software.

I like affordable notebooks, and while shiny like glass the Dell Inspiron 15R is a real contender. The keyboard doesn’t match the generally good build quality of the rest of the notebook, but at the end of the day it’s still a very reasonable option for a prospective notebook buyer on a budget.

If you need the extra power and have the cash to spare, the Inspiron 15r is a great student laptop that will last you for a few years. However, portability and usability aren't as strong as we would have liked.

Connections are plentiful, with VGA and HDMI ports for hooking up external displays and even an eSATA port for attaching external hard drives. With 500GB of built-in storage, you’ll likely only need to do so when backing up your important files.

While it might sit on the shelf with other affordable mainstream laptops, the Dell Inspiron i15RN5110-7126DBK has a lot to offer that competing systems just can't match, like a Blu-ray player, Wi-Di technology, USB 3.0 and Bluetooth, making it a solid desktop replacement. Those looking for a full roster of premium features, however, might prefer the Editors' Choice Dell XPS 15z, but it comes at a premium price.

The Dell Inspiron i15RN5110-5816DBK is a competent desktop replacement, and anyone purchasing one can be confident that it will meet their day-to-day needs admirably. While it is a well-built laptop with a full feature set, you will find other competing systems offering better performance for less, like the Lenovo IdeaPad V570-1066A9U, the Editors' Choice for budget laptops.

My main problem with this is the annoying trackpad, average battery life and lack of Nvidia’s Optimus implementation, which is what’s stopping the new N5110 from being a real steal.

And of course, if you don't like the default black case, you can just order another from the Dell web site - if you don’t mind the price.

While the Inspiron 15R (N5110) doesn't do all that well in gaming, its CPU is effective in terms of everyday usage. It can also perform well with applications that have higher processing demands (3D modelling, 1080p video encoding and so on). Its connectivity also covers all the bases and it has excellent battery life.

The Dell Inspiron 15R isn't too exciting in terms of its design, and its battery life is fairly dismal. But its performance is impressive for the price. It would be a good choice for students seeking a reasonably priced laptop that handles movies and music well. Before you lay down your cash, though, also check out the 15.6-inch Medion Akoya E6221.

Dell's first major update to the Inspiron 15R has both good and bad aspects to it. For the most part, performance has been improved thanks to the new Intel Core 2011 processors. In addition, the graphics system is beneficial for those that do lots of video encoding work. On the downside, the 3D performance is not as strong as a dedicated graphics part and Dell has reduced the number of customization options beyond the lid even further.

When it comes to spending $500 on a laptop, beggars can't be choosers. One of the best things about the Inspiron 15R, Dell's 2011 update to its budget and midrange consumer laptop line, is that it starts at an aggressive price while still offering Intel's second-generation Core i-series processors. Dell's Inspiron 15R is an attractively priced budget consumer laptop with a welcome set of up-to-date features and design options, but beware of the cost of customizations.

The new and improved Inspiron 15R N5110 is an appealing 15.6-inch laptop for general use and multimedia tasks but also remains very budget friendly. The a base configuration priced at $499 might not be as impressive as the system we reviewed which is almost $400 more expensive, but even the less expensive model packs enough punch to more than satisfy the technology demands of a typical family. If you need a notebook with a little extra muscle then the Intel Core i5 processor and optional AMD Radeon 6470M graphics should handle all but the most graphically intense modern games. I would have liked to see a backlit keyboard option as well as higher resolution screen options such as 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900 ... but those are pretty minor complaints for a budget notebook.

Dell have given the Inspiron R a total makeover with a few new features and cheaper price tag, with the Sandy Bridge CPU providing a much appreciated boost to overall performance and some extra battery life.

Dell's refreshed Inspiron R line includes the midsize 15.6-inch model aptly named the 15R. This system is available in several configurations, but the $699 model features a 2nd Generation Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor with 3MB of cache and integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics. While you won't want to use this laptop for serious gaming, it does make a peppy model for very light run-throughs in non-intensive games, such as World of Warcraft.

What you get in the Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 is a cheap notebook with lots of good features, decent speed, and good battery life. You also get a creaky chassis and an overly glossy screen with narrow viewing angles, and an ability to customise the way the laptop looks by installing a lid with a funky paint job. Overall, despite there being a few negatives in its build quality, the Inspiron R is a good notebook.

Commentaire
Intel HD Graphics 3000:
