As the first gaming laptop out of the gate with AMD's new Ryzen 4000 processors, the Asus Zephyrus G14 has a lot to prove. But in our time with the device, we can definitely see this laptop as a precursor to some of the most incredible laptops in history coming out later in 2020.

On long-term test, used for work as well as gaming, does the G14 still manage to reach the level which earned it our 2020 T3 Award? Heck yes it does. Just as an object of engineering it's beautiful, and it's deceptively monstrous inside. It's a laptop which can do the things you need it to do, look great while doing it, and leave very few boxes unticked.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 isn't just a great gaming laptop; it's also the smallest gaming laptop on the market, and boasts the longest-lasting battery of any gaming laptop we've seen. The display is rock solid, the audio rich and robust, and the performance offered by the G14's AMD Ryzen 9-4900HS processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q graphics card are some of the best you'll find this side of a gaming desktop. The fact that you can get all of this for a not-insane amount of money is also pretty amazing.

There’s no other laptop like the Zephyrus G14 right now, with the same sort of performance in the same kind of compact form-factor and premium build. Even so, though, this remains a niche product with three potential deal-breakers: the screen choices, the silver keyboard on the White model, and the high internal temperatures.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is an incredible work horse and fantastic gamer. The battery life is superb and the noise of the fans while gaming never became a distraction. While we don't like the fact that you can't add RAM or storage needing instead to replace components we can understand why ASUS chose this path given how tightly packed the tech inside is. Overall this is a great notebook and whether you're creating content or just looking to play the latest AAA titles, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is a shining star.

Priced Rs 98,990 onwards, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is an all-round versatile notebook that will impress both gamers and content creators. The notebook is a design marvel with untethered performance, a combination that is unique to it. It has thermal issues but that is something common across most gaming machines and, therefore, you might like to ignore it considering the sheer power the laptop packs and the performance it delivers. There is no reason to not like the ROG Zephyrus G14, except it lacks a webcam!

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is not what it looks like. It’s not just a gaming laptop. Surprisingly, it can be used for other regular purposes as well. We do get a good slab-like design that is compact, has a fairly decent screen and a rather capable processor with ample RAM and GPU to take care of everything. But the battery performance came as a pleasant surprise for us.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is truly a marvel. It manages to pack into this incredibly small form factor the power throughput of machines that need to be much bigger. As much of an engineering marvel this is in every right, it still struggles with dissipating heat in an effective manner. The keyboard can get unusably hot with tasks like gaming and rendering going on, which is incredibly disappointing. Thankfully, the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS does not throttle at any point, which is good. The laptop's LED-studded Anime Matrix display is every bit worth the hype, but the novelty wears off pretty soon. Overall, for the money, you could buy laptops that deliver far better performance, but with the Zephyrus G14, you're paying for a good amount power packed into a very compact form-factor.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 has a lot to talk about. It's the first of its kind 14-inch gaming machine that certainly does not look like a gaming machine. Also, performance is one of the strongest points here. However, the laptop has its shortcomings too, such as thermal performance and dim backlit keys. So, is it worth the money? Well, if you are out there for a compact laptop that looks good, offers good performance and has a colour calibrated display and you are okay with the thermals, then there's nothing better than ROG Zephyrus G14 in the market right now.

ASUS tells us that this review unit retails at Rs 1,61,990, which is a bit high given that proper gaming laptops like the Lenovo Legion Y740 can be had for about 10k less while also offering a more powerful GPU. The Zephyrus G14 is slimmer, though, and comes with a more powerful CPU and a better display, which is, I think, fair trade.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 offers reasonable value and there's a lot to like about this machine. While it is possible to find cheaper laptops with full-power RTX 2060 GPUs, those thicker, heavier machines don’t have the awesome AMD CPU. We’d only consider looking elsewhere if you’re specifically searching for more GPU power, a larger screen, or a higher refresh rate. The G14 is a compelling option for gaming and productivity.

At the end of the day, this is a device with some compromises. However, you have some upgradability options, two USB Type-C 3.1 (Gen. 2) ports, which despite lacking Thunderbolt 3 certification can output a DisplayPort 1.4 signal and can charge the laptop with 65W worth of power. Well, at least one of them. But the point here is – you are not buying the best laptop, nor the most powerful one. However, you are getting the best 14-inch gaming machine that money can buy right now (mostly due to the lack of 14-inch gaming laptops though).

Lisa Gade reviews the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, a 14” laptop the size and weight of an Ultrabook with serious gaming internals inside. Thanks to AMD’s impressive new 7nm Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 HS 8-core processors, the computing power is top of the heap, equaling Intel’s 8-core i7 and i9 45 watt CPUs but with less heat and power consumption. The laptop is available with our NVIDIA RTX 2060 Max-Q graphics or a GTX 1650 or GTX 1660 Ti. We have the full HD IPS 120Hz display and there’s a QHD resolution option. The G14 ships with 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM and a 512GB or 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD. WiFi-6, a white backlit keyboard and 76 WHr battery are standard. Pricing starts at $1,299 list. The optional AniMe Matrix (lid LED light show) model is more expensive.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 isn’t without fault. The biggest gripe is that it gets too hot to the touch, especially when gaming. You’d need to use an external keyboard if you’re doing anything taxing for extended periods of time. It’s also not the most value gaming laptop out there. ASUS’ Strix line can offer you similar performance at a lower price. But if portability and aesthetic are really important to you, then it’s an excellent choice. You shouldn’t look at the Zephyrus G14 as a gaming laptop, but rather an amazing laptop that can game.

Up until recently, constructing reasonably thin, light, and powerful gaming laptops was a domain that was dominated by Intel for many years. Now, with the arrival of AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series and machines like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14, one thing is clear: AMD is about to give its long-time competitor a real run for its money within the market segment.

Asus could surely do something both those temperatures though, by providing a Gaming-optimized power profile that would limit the overpowered CPU, allowing it to run cooler with games. That should not be hard to implement since the profile seems to exist already, but it only kicks in automatically when playing games on an external monitor, with the laptop’s lid closed. Will it happen, though? I sure hope so, but I’m not going to hold my breath for it.

Overall, I've enjoyed using the ASUS ROG Zephyrus a lot during this period. The AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS CPU certainly proved that it's more than capable of handling graphic intense Triple-A titles, same goes to the wireless connectivity and surprisingly good battery performance. The Zephyrus G14 slots in a niche of its own, somewhere between compact ultrabooks and performance 15-inch ultraportables, as the most powerful 14-inch notebook of the moment. Asus nailed the build quality, the ergonomics and the performance and pretty much everything else in this sort of a form-factor, but the high internal and chassis temperatures in demanding loads, as well as the limited GPU/screen options, might push some of you towards the 15-inch segment instead.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 is a triumph for both ASUS and AMD, having successfully worked together to put out a gaming notebook that can finally put Intel on notice. As it is, the notebook has plenty to offer, but I will still have to take a retail unit (once I get my hands on it) for a spin before I can draw conclusions on its overall worth. While ASUS has let on that the Zephyrus G14 will be available in Singapore sometime in May, they have yet to talk about the elephant in the room – pricing. AMD has traditionally targeted at price-conscious consumers and I will be surprised if ASUS steers the Zephyrus G14 towards the same price direction as their Intel-based products.

Asus's ROG Zephyrus G14 is one of the best gaming laptops we've tested. It's thinner and lighter than most of the competition, and with up an Nvidia 2060 GPU and an AMD R9-4900H processor, it's legitimately faster than some high-end all-in-one PCs we've tested in the past. Combine that with great battery life, a good selection of ports, and a price under $1500, and you've got a winner.

ASUS's first Zephyrus laptop was a bit of an impractical showpiece -- it was very thin and packed in a GTX 1080, the fastest mobile GPU at the time, but it only lasted around two hours on battery and weighed nearly five pounds. Overall, we’re impressed with the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 and the Ryzen 4000 series mobile process within the system, but heat and noise will be a concern for some users. As we’ve shown, the CPU can get quite hot under sustained load and the system’s fans can generate quite a bit of noise under some conditions. We have been able to dig up information on a number of versions of G14 but the prices have not been confirmed in advance of the launch date so we shall hold off on a final judgement about value for money. Right now it seems you pay a significant premium as you step up the product stack and improve the CPU and GPU, moving from £999 to £1,799. The underlying hardware in the chassis remains the same across the range of Zephyrus G14 laptops and that strikes us a good move as the tiny screen bezel, ErgoLift hinge and inclusion of Type-C charging are features that deserve to be shared.
