To conclude, the Asus Zenfone AR does a pretty impressive job in handling most of the virtual and augmented reality apps. Though the whole AR and VR experience work really good, still, it is just not the right time to buy a smartphone just for these experiences, as it really needs to grow at an exponential rate to offer more to the consumers, especially in terms of productivity and everyday usability.

If you're an early adopter of next-generation technology or perhaps a developer looking to make inroads in AR/VR, the Asus ZenFone AR is technically the only phone in the market right now to support both these technologies out-of-the-box. If you’re an Asus fan, we suggest waiting for the ZenFone 4 Pro to see if the problems found here are remedied in the company’s true flagship device. If AR is super important to you, then you can buy the ZenFone AR and know that you’ll have a decently performing phone with dreadful battery life, heating issues, and an inconsistent camera behind its marquee feature. Otherwise, in the $600 - $700 range – and even below this – there’s a wealth of better options. The LG G6, OnePlus 5, U11 – even the Galaxy S8 is now within this price-point. It’s hard to see why anyone should choose the ZenFone AR over these better executed, better looking, flagship heavyweights.

The good news here for ASUS is that the ZenFone AR is a good phone overall. Though it is rocking a previous generation Snapdragon 821 SoC, it is still a pretty fast handset. It also has copious amounts of storage and memory, a premium design, quality cameras, and some nifty tricks that are made possible by ZenUI. And while the AR and VR experiences are limited at this point in time, there are some cool apps to play with now, along with whatever might be in the pipeline from developers going forward.

The ZenFone AR is reasonably priced on Verizon at $648 or $27 per month. This is a good price for a high-end smartphone with unique AR capability. I would like to have seen some level of water resistance for field use and the phone does heat up with extensive AR use.

ASUS ZenFone AR review - A powerful but pricey 8GB RAM Google Tango smartphone
Source: Tech Nave Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Overall, the ZenFone AR is a really powerful smartphone. The benchmark scores speak for themselves, carrying out graphic demading games, AR and VR performance which is just great, very good camera quality and the DIY cardbox VR viewer is a nice touch. However, at this moment there aren't too many engaging AR and VR apps for the ZenFone AR, not to mention the annoying heating issue that appears on the four sides of the device. I think the battery could use some improvement as well, maybe adding more up to 3500mAh or more so that you can have more time for AR and VR.

Lenovo's Phab2 Pro might have been first, but the ZenFone AR's superior hardware makes it the best Tango device yet. That's not really saying much, though: The Tango experience isn't much better than it was a year ago, and there still isn't much there to win over people who haven't already bought into Google's AR vision. If you're already tantalized by the potential of augmented reality to change how we see the world, the ZenFone AR is worth looking into. For $699, the Asus ZenFone AR is a solid phablet that serves as a showcase for the potential of AR. The slimmed-down design and relatively powerful hardware make it more accessible to the average user than the Phab 2 Pro, but it also costs $200 more. That price puts it in competition with flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S8, which is a smaller, sleeker, more powerful, and generally better phone in every regard. Unless you're an early adopter keen on experiencing AR, the Galaxy S8 remains our Editors' Choice for phones in this price range. If you're looking for a more affordable option, the OnePlus 5 is half the price and includes a dual-sensor camera with optical zoom. AR on phones might be the future, but the ZenFone AR shows we aren't there quite yet.

The ASUS ZenFone AR has an average battery uptime for a phone that does regular smartphone tasks expectedly, and it’s sufficient for performing its intended AR purposes. Commentaire

Qualcomm Adreno 530:
