Well-Designed Transformer. For Asus, the Transformer Pad tablet family has become a tradition. Asus places the future of the entire family on its latest addition, the Transformer Pad TF300T. Based on its powerful Nvidia Tegra 3 hardware, we believe this is a sure bet.

The Transformer Pad is a brilliant device and comes with a keyboard dock giving your tablet the utility of a netbook. It is however a little hard to recommend the Asus Transformer Pad TF300TG. For Rs. 35,000 you get the Samsung Galaxy Note 800, which is an equally brilliant device (although the build quality is a little poorer than the Transformer Pad) and comes with Samsung's S-Pen. It doesn't come with a keyboard dock though. If you are going to pick up a premium tablet, then why not go in for the iPad? It still has the best design, build and app ecosystem out there. If you are a fan of Asus products or want a netbook replacement then you can consider this device. Although an iPad with a Logitech keyboard case would be a better option.

So, if your priority is Android OS and you want a premium tablet with built-in 3G support, the Transformer Pad TF300TG is for you. If you don’t need 3G support, then we suggest you go in for the Transformer Prime TF201. If you ask us which tablet to go in for, our pick is the Apple iPad, which is more affordable than the Transformer Pad.

Maybe if the Transformer Pad 300 was a little cheaper we’d overlook this fault, but prices just haven’t tumbled enough to earn our complete forgiveness. Given a few months on the shelves, the price may drop, but for now, Asus’s cut-down Transformer seems like a poor cousin to the, admittedly expensive, range-topping Transformer Pad Infinity 700.

Even though it’s aimed at budget focused users, the Asus Transformer Pad TF300T is still quite expensive. It can be yours for about £400 from Amazon which is quite expensive considering you can get an iPad for £330 these days. In fairness for the extra money you get the keyboard dock which will attract a slightly wider audience.

The Transformer Pad 300 offers an attractive package for a reasonable price. £399 will get you 32GB of storage and the keyboard dock thrown in too. The excellent selection of ports, decent screen, competent performance and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich round-off a solid effort from Asus.

Overall, we're thrilled Asus decided to offer a more affordable version of the Transformer Prime and the Transformer Pad is easily one of the best value tablets/netbooks money can buy today.

The new Asus Transformer Pad gives you 95 per cent of the Transformer Prime experience for 80 per cent of the price - with the added bonus of reliable GPS. What you lose is negligible; what you gain - £100 - is not to be sneezed at. Our new best Android tablet? Oh yes.

Overall we have to say we like the TF300, with it offering similar performance to the Asus Transformer Prime at a reduced price, retailing for nearly £100 less than its predecessor. The tablet's only real shortcoming is its plastic case, which doesn't feel all that sturdy.

With its Transformer Pad 300 - or TF300 to give it its full model name - Asus has done it again. For under £400 you get a convertible 10in tablet with an IPS screen, Tegra 3 quad-core power, oodles of connectivity and battery life, and a keyboard dock that transforms it into a genuine productivity tool and basic netbook equivalent. Essentially you get the same smooth 1080p video playback, console-quality gaming and great overall experience as with the Asus Transformer Prime for £100 less, making Asus’ latest convertible tablet an easy recommendation.

Tablet Face-Off: Budget Models From Acer and Asus vs. Apple's iPad 2
Source: PC World Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
If you’re buying a tablet because you’re looking for nifty software and want to keep your costs down, you’re still better off with iPad 2. But the Android platform has its advantages, also, and the Transformer Pad TF300 remains the best value choice today—especially if you opt for the 32GB version at $400. Not only will you get a lot of bang for your buck at that price, but the Transformer Pad’s Tegra 3-optimized graphics are capable of some impressive tricks over the iPad 2, if the handful of games optimized for the platform appeal to you.

In spite of the stability issues I encountered, the Asus Transformer Pad makes for a good, large-screen, value-priced Android tablet. The extra storage you'll get will come in handy, but you'll have to be willing to sacrifice niceties like a subwoofer, a rear-camera flash, and a Super IPS display if you go with this lower-cost model. If you like the idea of extra storage in a tablet at less cost, the Transformer Pad makes a good choice.

Asus Transformer Pad TF300 review – finally an affordable good Android tablet

All in all, this is a tablet to consider when documenting on your next buy. The iPad 2 is probably going to be a tough competitor, as it goes for $399 as well today and devices like the Lenovo Ideapad K2 or the Acer Iconia Tab A510 will have something to say in this fight as well.

Finally, this pricing allows users to get the full Tablet+Keyboard combo, practically at the price of most “naked” tablets in the $500 range. For anyone who considers using it as a “serious” (for work) computing platform, this is pretty much the deal in town. Just a few months ago, I didn’t think that I would associate an “excellent” rating with a $400 product, but to make a long story short, Asus did it again…

The Transformer Pad TF300 continues ASUS' trend of creating tablets that are both beautiful and powerful. While the screen is not as bright as the Transformer, this $379 slate delivers Tegra 3 muscle for smooth overall performance and playing a growing selection of 3D games. Plus, the TF300 has one of the better cameras we've used on a 10-inch tablet--if you like the idea of shooting things with a 10-inch tablet. Meanwhile, the optional mobile keyboard dock adds lots of versatility. In terms of apps, the $399 iPad 2 reigns supreme in this price range, but the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 is a solid choice for those who want a quad-core Android tablet for less than $400.

ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 Review

Here we have the slightly less expensive version of the most well-rounded and powerful Android tablet on the planet. The qualities that allow this model to cost significantly less than its bigger brother are not bothersome to me, and I see no reason, save for one, why a person wouldn’t just go with this TF300 model over the Transformer Prime. That reason is, of course, the flash for the camera – I think it’s safe to say that most people don’t use their tablet as their primary photo and video machine, but if they do, that little LED can make or break a purchase.

The Transformer Prime was a top-notch tablet when it was released last year, and the TF300, which isn't vastly different, except that it's less expensive, carries that torch. But it seems like a placeholder while we wait for the Infinity Prime, with its 1080p high-resolution display. Much like Samsung with its Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) ($249.99, 4 stars), Asus is concentrating on affordability, rather than major spec upgrades. At $379 for the 16GB model, with the fastest processor available, the latest version of Android, and a versatile add-on keyboard dock, the Asus Transformer Pad TF300 is an attractive package. It's certainly among the best non-Apple tablets available today, but we're still on the lookout for an Android tablet that can top the iPad.
