The iPad Pro 2024 is an exceptional tablet. Its vivid OLED display is a marvel to behold and the new thin and light design makes it more portable than ever. I’m also a fan of its speedy M4-powered performance and astonishing battery life. Sure, its peripherals are expensive, but as a device, the iPad Pro has everything you could ever want from a tablet. Apple Intelligence features like Math Notes and Smart Scripts are intriguing but won't be much use unless you often do math or write on your tablet. Right now, the iPad Pro (and iPads with M-series chips running iPadOS 18) don't have a lot of dedicated AI features — with most also available on iPhones with iOS 18. Apple says the M4 and its onboard Neural Engine NPU is an “absolute powerhouse for AI,” but I’m still not convinced. Even if the iPad Pro never becomes an "AI powerhouse," it’s still an incredible tablet for people who want a powerful slate with a gorgeous OLED display. The iPad Pro has set a standard for all premium tablets to follow.

If your wallet is wide enough and you need a high-end tablet with a great display and the latest and greatest SoC, the Apple iPad Pro 13 (2024) could give you all that but at a hefty price. You can transform this machine into a portable workstation for photo or video editing if you purchase the optional Apple Magic Keyboard at the price of a mid-range Android phone. The build quality is exceptional. The aluminum build remained intact when we tried to twist it a bit. The thin profile allows you to hold the tablet comfortably for longer periods. The OLED display is a true gem thanks to the infinite contrast ratio and the high max brightness of 506 nits in SDR mode and 1630 nits in XDR mode.

Aside from price, iPad Pro (2024) is the clear winner in all categories, compared to the (also very excellent) iPad Air (2024). We’d go so far to say it’s the best tablet money can buy. Oh sure, there are a couple of issues with iPad OS impacting both tablets and some may simply prefer a premium Android tablet, but in this versus comparison, iPad Pro (2024) is the one to beat. (Although, if you simply want a gorgeous iPad for consuming (rather than creating) content, iPad Air will serve you just fine.). Between its powerful M4 processor, gorgeous tandem OLED screens (and for the first time, a nano-texture option), and ample storage (up to 2TB), the 2024 iPad Pro is as good as it gets.

To me, the iPad Pro has always been Apple’s most curious device, and the latest one doesn’t change that. The hardware and engineering are utterly breathtaking, and there will surely be a handful of users who can wield it to its fullest potential, but I also can’t help but think that it’s way more tablet than what the majority of users need. To borrow a motoring analogy, it’s like a Ferrari looking for the right roads to let loose.

Apple’s new, redesigned, M4-powered iPad Pro is an incredible tablet. Across many applications and use cases, it is one of the best products Apple has ever made. However, there are times when the iPad Pro feels like it falls short of its promise and potential. Which side of the scale tips farther — the good or the bad — depends on the user. In my case, the new iPad Pro routinely pulls me in both directions. At times, I love it, and it’s my favorite piece of technology. At other times, I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall, trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. “But this peg should be round,” I occasionally find myself thinking, knowing the M4 chip inside the iPad Pro has ample power to enable the tablet to do everything I wish it could do.

As impressive as I find the 13-inch iPad Pro, the form factor has disadvantages for a tablet. In everyday use, it’s significantly heavier and more unwieldy than an 11-inch model. If you’re watching a longer video, you’ll find you want to put it down somewhere because of the weight. The 11-inch model is therefore probably ideal for most home users.

Apple had achieved a great deal with its Mini LED displays, to the extent that we weren’t sure whether the move to OLED would be that significant. Well, it is. Not only does the new iPad Pro boast even better contrast than its predecessor, it also adds richer colours, a more cinematic tone and even better motion. Sure, it’s overkill in terms of processing power, particularly if you’re wholly or mainly going to use your tablet for movies and music, but if you have the luxury of a large budget, the new iPad Pro 13-inch is irresistibly good.

To say that the new iPad Pro is a spec bump would be a mistake. It may look similar to the model it replaces and the updates may sound trivial on paper, but it brings Apple’s most advanced tablet closer to the company’s dream of building “a magical sheet of glass” that can be anything that its users want. There’s no question that this is now the best iPad the company makes and that it is the iPad to have for hardcore iPad users. But does it change anything for everyone else?

The question isn’t should you buy a 2024 iPad Pro. It’s one of the finest tablets we’ve ever tested. Its display makes anything viewed on it look stunning. It’s thin and light (for an iPad) yet designed to be resilient enough to put up with years of casual abuse. And boy, is it powerful. If you invest in one of these things, you very likely won’t feel the need to update your hardware for years to come. It will handle most any task you throw at it, quickly and efficiently. The question, really, is can you buy a 2024 iPad Pro. The cost of owning one is so, so high. Part of this is because, to get the most out of the iPad Pro, or any Apple tablet, you’ll need to invest in a few accessories. A case to protect your investment is a must. Want to use your iPad for productivity?

When Apple announced the iPad Pro 11, it piqued my interest. I’ve always been a fan of the bigger iPad Pro, but despite having an M2 processor in the last generation, I found the trade-offs too much. These were mainly the weight, ergonomics, lack of Pro features in iPad OS, and the weight of the Magic Keyboard, which made the iPad too heavy overall. Almost all of these are now fixed, and the iPad Pro (2024) is the best tablet I’ve ever used. The vastly reduced weight of the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard make it an absolute joy to use. I’ve found that the 13-inch is better for my needs than the 11-inch, which can feel cramped, but there’s nuance to that decision.

So which model should you buy if you want an Apple tablet? If you are looking for a tablet for the toilet, couch, and bed, as well as for simple work, then I highly recommend the normal iPad. If you want a powerful iPad that's like an extended, mobile workbench for your normal workplace when you're traveling, then the iPad Air is perfect. If you are a photographer, content creator, or videographer, then the iPad Pro is the ideal choice. Only one thing, though. In the end, the iPad Pro feels so cool that I personally would have let my gut and not my head decide in the end. Not cool at all! If we were to bump into each other on the train at some point, don't be surprised to see an iPad Pro in front of me!

Another amazing piece of creative hardware from Apple. If you aren’t a professional creative or power user then this is overkill in most cases. Aesthetically this is the best option you can get at 5.1mm thick, glare free glass, Apple Pencil Pro ready and seriously powerful in both GPU and CPU terms. It’s only a good upgrade option if you are on the Pre M chip iPad with lower than 6GB of RAM but then you will feel that upgrade in your packet. If you don’t need to use a pencil then consider a MacBook Air and if you do need a pencil see if the M2 iPad Air will work for you first.

Apple iPad Pro Review: I have for years now been using the iPad and the iPad Pro as my primary computers, especially during travel. However, since the pandemic took away the office computer from my life I started using my MacBook for everything and there was no travel to lean back on the iPad. Also, as my profile changed, the spreadsheet became a prominent part of my work, which became a struggle to handle on the iPad even with a larger screen. Now with the iPad Pro M4, I want to figure out if an iPad can once again become my primary driver, given that it has unprecedented power inside for a tablet, a new Magic Keyboard with function keys, and the Apple Pencil Pro with new features.

Coming down on a firm verdict about the iPad Pro M4 is hard – it’s wonderful in many areas, yet lacking in others. It leaves Android tablets like the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra in the dust with its performance, and it has the best screen I have ever seen on an iPad. It’s glorious to use and wonderfully constructed to the point where I am still impressed at the hardware every single time I pick it up. No other piece of tech has made me feel this way in quite a long time, but – and it’s a big but – I am still not sure who this iPad Pro is for. The whole package, especially the 13-inch version, can hit £2000/$2000 before accessories are even considered. For the same price, you can get a MacBook Pro. For the £999/$999 base iPad Pro 11-inch, you could get a MacBook Air M3 – one of the very best laptops on the market.

The M4 iPad Pro is a polarizing device without any concept of a midpoint sweet spot from a value perspective. So, here’s the lowdown. The iPad Pro is expensive. Some might say deservedly so. I’ve been an ardent tablet user for nearly half a decade now, and I can confidently say no slate has ever justified its sticker price solely for its build quality more than the iPad Pro (2024). It’s loaded with more firepower than you can possibly touch the limits of. The hardware is second to none, and the battery life is also a pleasant surprise. The OLED screen is exceptionally good, and the speakers are a perfect multimedia companion. The redesigned Magic Keyboard is a cherry on top, albeit an expensive one. If you happen to be the target audience from a software standpoint, this machine will have you smiling each day.

iPad Pros are great — they run fast and smooth, their displays are awesome, and they can do... some stuff. They are definitely not laptop-like, so if you intend to be a "digital nomad" with one — take into consideration that an iPad still favors the "one app at a time" approach. This, combined with the price, puts a lot of people off. But if you will be drawing on it, doing text work and meetings on it, using it to binge YouTube and Netflix on the side, even incorporating it in audio or visual work — it can work as a great digital assistant throughout the day. This author has an iPad Pro that's pretty much on for about 4-8 hours each day, so it can definitely deliver a value through the years.

So, overall, I truly believe iPad Pro and iPad OS need an “identity”. Except for this gorgeous screen, everything that an iPad Pro does, you can do more or less the same with the cheaper iPad Air. I feel sorry for the Apple engineers here – they are providing such top-class hardware, but the software is not living up to the expectations. However, If you are an artist, this is a great device to have. There are a lot of crazy good apps for your creative workflow. Or if you are someone like me, who travels a lot and wants a portable machine for multimedia, light editing, writing scripts, and taking Zoom meetings from this wide-angle front camera, you will love this device. Buttt…That’s a pretty small demographic of people. But since I fall in that demographic, I love it and got this over the iPad Air, whose display now feels so inferior!

This video reviews the nearly perfect hardware of the iPad Pro M4 and the flaws in iPadOS that bring it down. Despite superb performance, issues with iPadOS 17’s core apps, Stage Manager's poor multitasking, and the unreliable file manager, hinder professional use. The iPad Pro M4 is special. And it is also meant for, I believe, users who have special use cases. If you want a tablet for your school children, the iPad Air is a perfectly reasonable option. In fact, for most use cases as a tablet the regular iPad remains the best value for money and the most sensible option for most people. Yet, the iPad Pro M4 is special. It is a work tool, if you have the work that needs its capabilities and feature set. For example, artists, sketchers, illustrators, musicians, filmmakers and so on and so forth may find it a life-changing tool. So, if you have that kind of work - or a workflow where you require the incredible combination of Pencil Pro, Tandem OLED screen and M4 performance - there is no better tool in the world than the iPad Pro M4.

The M4-powered Apple iPad Pro is likely overkill for most people given its tremendous power and high starting cost. But we can't deny that it has one of the best screens of any tablet, a thin, light, and attractive design, speedy wired and wireless connectivity, top-flight cameras, satisfactory battery life, and outstanding first-party accessories. Overall, it's our Editors' Choice winner for creatives who want a slim, light tablet that can handle practically anything. Just keep in mind that the iPad Air is more than sufficient if you stick to GarageBand, iMovie, and other lightweight creative apps.

In the end, my conclusion is that the iPad Pro feels like a MacBook, but for most people it won't feel like one when working. That's a question of habit. However, if you were to ask my daughter Mia, she would say the opposite. For four years, the iPad Pro has been her only computer, which she uses to do everything for school and A-levels. She doesn't miss anything, and I understand her. But others won't be able to do without a stationary computer or a laptop. Unfortunately, iPadOS is simply not made for that. Nevertheless, the iPad Pro has picked me up more this year than it has for a long time. It has become so pleasantly light and thin, and the new display in particular makes a huge difference. So what should you buy now if you want to buy an Apple tablet?

The M4 iPad Pro has its merit, and it's undeniably in a league of its own. The looks and feel are a definite standout. The OLED display is a stunner, and so is the Magic Keyboard, both aesthetically as well as functionally. Performance is blistering, as expected, and the battery life is surprisingly good, especially for a slate with a 13-inch OLED panel. From a hardware perspective, there is almost nothing meaningful to complain about Apple's latest flagship slate. Interestingly, the biggest undoing of this beautiful kit is Apple itself. The iPadOS experience is still frustratingly limiting and the sluggish pace at which it is evolving further shrinks any scope of bright hopes. The iPad's getting closer to a Mac all the time — unfortunate for power users, that also goes for configuration pricing and top-tier M4 action. And unless your workflow doesn't involve stylus-based work, the Magic Keyboard is an expensive must-have to extract any iota of computing needs from this slate. Is this the best tablet out there?

The iPad Pro is so much more than just a tablet. This powerful machine can take on professional tasks with ease, it can work as a portable edit suite or graphics tablet, and it can provide gorgeous visuals. For the more casual user, the OLED display is incredible and means everything from movies and games, to photos and webpages, look simply stunning. While the screen is not a massive jump in quality from the previous iPad Pro, the extra brightness is noticeable. While iPadOS isn’t perfect, I could definitely see this being a valid replacement for my MacBook Pro. If I was travelling light, the lighter and thinner design makes it easy to keep in my bag and with the Magic Keyboard, it’s just as easy to work on. If you don’t need the power of the M4 chip, the new 13-inch iPad Air is also worth considering, though it still uses the old Magic Keyboard which isn’t quite as good. Ultimately, if you are searching for the best tablet on the market, the iPad Pro is that choice.

I was confident I would like the nano-texture iPad Pro because I nerd out over color consistency when editing photos and despise glare. However, I also expected that the tradeoffs would irritate me, too. I figured the scales would just barely tip in favor of the nano-texture glass, and if not, there’s always that 14-day return window. However, I was sold once I started using the new iPad Pro with Apple’s fancy etched glass. I really do love it, compromises and all.

There's simply no denying that the new iPad Pro remains the best tablet you can buy. The new slimline design is simply stunning, the M4 processor is ludicrously powerful and the upgraded OLED screen is a thing of absolute beauty. It's a total joy to use, especially with Apple fixing a number of issues found on the older models such as the front-facing camera placement and boost to the base-level storage. The Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard accessories are also improved and you get other first-rate features including amazing speakers, 5G connectivity, fast Wi-Fi and a decent rear camera. It’s very hard to knock the iPad Pro, in fact, it’s pretty much perfect. The two problems here are the price and if you actually need all that power. There’s now that upgraded M2 Air on sale from £599 or you could simply buy the 10th Gen model at the new price of £349.

Even if the iPad Pro never becomes an AI powerhouse, it’s still an incredible tablet for people who want a powerful slate with a gorgeous OLED display. The iPad Pro has set a standard for all premium tablets to follow.

The iPad Pro 13-inch (2024) is the best tablet Apple has ever made, and the company has clearly thrown everything at it. You get an amazing OLED screen, a powerful M4 chip, and a ridiculously thin and light design, and if money is no object, this is an incredible bit of kit. However, for the vast majority of us, money is an object, and a very important one, and it’s hard to justify the huge price tag unless you’re going to be using this as a laptop or desktop replacement for serious creative workloads. If you just want a tablet for relaxing on the couch and scrolling the web, this isn’t for you - check out the new iPad Air (2024) instead.

The 13-inch Apple iPad Pro, powered by the M4, is not just a laptop replacement option but a true alternative for those who don’t want or need a laptop-type device. With an impressive display and touchscreen, along with accessories that match the performance of the main device, it’s the best from Apple for those who are looking for something different.

If you find yourself saying, "LOL, the iPad Pro is super overpowered for something that's supposed to just stream Netflix and browse the internet," that's an indication the iPad Pro isn't for you. So the question is, who is the M4 iPad Pro 2024 for? This perfect user for the iPad Pro 2024 is a professional digital artist who often steps away from their desktop PC and needs a sleek, on-the-go device that can handle taxing workloads (on apps like ZBrush or Nomad Sculpt, for example) while they're traveling from A to B. If you're not a pro artist, another niche that would love the iPad Pro are Apple enthusiasts who don't mind dropping at least $1,000 on a luxury slate that has a brilliant, sleek display, a striking high-contrast panel, and shockingly long battery life. If you fall into any one of those categories, the iPad Pro is, indeed, for you. Otherwise, it'd be best for you to consider the iPad Air, a cheaper option, that starts at $599.

As you’d expect, 2024’s iPad Pro makes gains. But the performance gains here are quite staggering. But the question is why has Apple upgraded the Pro quite so much? Is it to take people away from their Macs? Is it to discourage others from even trying to develop tablets? To revive iPad sales? Is it all of the above? Also, whisper it quietly, but we’re at a stage where the iPad Air also now has an M2 chip and even the base level iPad has a lot to offer, now at a cheaper price point (RIP the home button). The iPad Pro now offers a level of power that most people won’t ever need – it’s for the 1% who design or draft with the Apple Pencil and as such the Pencil Pro is also a serious upgrade for them. Apple is also targeting Pro users who haven’t upgraded from much earlier models, but there has to be more to come in the iPadOS department at Apple’s developer conference next month. Surely there has to be to power up the software to match the terrific power on show here.

For now, it’s just an iPad. The best iPad ever, I think — maybe even the best iPad you could reasonably ask for. But the story of the iPad — the “magic pane of glass,” as Apple is so fond of calling it — is actually all about software. The iPad’s software has let its hardware down for years. Apple has led us to believe that’s about to change, that this year’s WWDC will be the great turning point for AI and iPads and everything. We’ll see. Until then, the iPad Pro is almost too good for its own good.

The iPad Pro 2024 features a fantastic OLED display, powerful M4 performance, a thin yet solid lightweight design and long battery life. Though some of its peripherals and upgrades are pricey, Apple has arguably delivered its best premium tablet in years. But should you buy or skip this device?

“The iPad Pro lineup has always been about showing off just how good of a tablet Apple can make, but this one truly is without compromise. It doesn’t just have a nice screen, it has the best screen Apple has ever made. It doesn’t have the same processor as some Macs, it has a newer and better one,” said Engadget. “To get all of that technology into a device this thin and light truly feels, well, magical.” “The iPad Pro 2024 is an exceptional tablet. Its vivid OLED display is a marvel to behold and the new thin and light design makes it more portable than ever. I’m also a fan of its speedy M4-powered performance and astonishing battery life,” said Tom’s Guide. The 11-inch 2024 iPad Pro starts at $999, while the 13-inch model starts at $1,299. Both tablets come in either silver or space black.

The iPad can be an extremely personal computer, and as the form factor becomes more compelling, I think it’s time to give up on preconceived notions of what a computer is and how we should be using laptops. If you want to use the M4 iPad Pro as your main computer, you can, and it’s a damn great machine. I expect a lot of will reviews complain about multitasking and how the iPad needs to run macOS, but from my perspective, that alienates people who have selected the tablet because it isn’t a Mac. It’s simple on its surface, but as you dive deeper, pro iPad users will be the first to tell you that over the past few years, things have gotten really good on iPad. Sure, Stage Manager is a little different, but the fact that it unlocks multi-window support on iPad is a huge boon for working.

If you’re already a fan of working on the iPad and you’re just wondering if these updates are worth it, I would say yes. The thinness and weight feel magical and the new Pencil Pro feels like Apple has really hit its stride. The display is stunningly beautiful and I think students and many artists will find so much to love here. Photographers and filmmakers, though, will have to exercise some patience. Multiple members of the PetaPixel team will be using an iPad Pro for the next several weeks to really get a handle on it. We also really want to see Final Cut Camera and its integration with Final Cut for iPad 2 before we come to a final recommendation because it sounds like an experience that will make the iPad Pro worth having. As a result, we aren’t willing to lay down a recommendation yet. We think the high asking price of the iPad Pro — as worth it as it might be for the size and brightness — requires more consideration than just a few days.

One thing to note about performance is that it will vary slightly depending on the amount of storage your iPad Pro has. The 256GB and 512GB models will have M4 chips that have 9 CPU cores and 8GB of memory, while the 1TB and 2TB will have chips that have 10 CPU cores and 16GB of memory. I don't think the additional CPU core is going to make a huge difference but it's something you ought to take note. I’ve long maintained that the iPad Pros were the most stunning hardware that Apple makes and the newest models reinforce that thought. These new tablets have beautiful displays, remarkable build quality and thinness, and even better performance. Objectively, they are better tablets than the ones they replace. But do you really need a tablet with such ridiculously overkill specs? I’ll need more time with them to give you a definitive answer.

The keyboard isn’t the only new Pro accessory. Apple has also revealed the new Apple Pencil Pro, which adds haptic feedback, a squeeze gesture and a gyroscope to make using the pencil even more natural to use than before. These sound like minor upgrades, but being able to slightly rotate the Pencil Pro and have it change how my handwriting looked was seamless. If you’re a digital artist, this Pencil upgrade is going to be really hard to avoid. That said, because Apple moved the webcam to the long side of the new iPad models, this new Pencil needed an upgraded magnet and charging array to fit over the camera module. This means it only works with the new iPad Pro and the new iPad Air. The Pencil Pro also has ‘Find My,’ so you can locate it when it’s lost.

So, as you can probably tell, we expect the next iPad Pro models to be predictably great. Nothing exciting or jaw-dropping, though our jaws are still on the floor since Apple decided to put an M1 chip in the iPad Pro back in 2021. The new design is kind of cool, but it's not really the main new feature. That Tandem OLED screen may just steal the show. The redesigned Magic Keyboard is cool, but it means that old iPad Pro owners who want to upgrade will need to buy the tablet and the keyboard yet again. Are they worth it? Most definitely — we do enjoy our time with the current iPad Pros, and — as mentioned — even use the M1 units from back in 2021 excessively, with no slowdowns still. If you do spend a lot of time on a tablet, they make up for their price in value — with their performance, screen quality, sound, usability throughout a dynamic day, and software ecosystem. If you are looking for a glorified Netflix machine — an iPad Air may be the better financial decision.

I know, I've been doing the math too. It's been more than 500 days since we've received new iPads and your guess is as good as mine as to why. What was once Apple's darling and actually Steve Jobs' final appearance on stage hasn't gone all too well ever since.
