The iPad Air is not a bad iPad. It has a nice display and excellent performance, and it works with the latest Apple Pencil Pro. However, it does seem somewhat confused, sandwiched between the basic iPad and the flagship iPad Pro. It does some things better than the basic iPad, but one could argue that it’s not enough to justify its higher price. And on the flip side, the iPad Pro is a much nicer iPad. As things stand, I’d mostly only recommend the iPad Air to people who really need a 13-inch display on the cheap, or need to use the Apple Pencil often and don’t want to step up all the way to the iPad Pro.hat.

The iPad Air range just got a whole lot bigger, with a 13-inch model offering an affordable alternative to the full-sized iPad Pro. There are still a few annoying omissions, and the larger iPad Air can now get stupidly expensive if you want lots of storage and cellular data, but the range now offers a very good premium tablet experience for an even wider number of people.

Not underpowered. Not overpriced for its quality. It's just right. The 2024 iPad Air is a great pick for anyone who wants a new iPad but might not need the advanced display, power, and price that come with this year’s iPad Pro. Especially when paired with an Apple Pencil Pro, the iPad Air is an incredibly versatile device that boasts a great-looking display and more horsepower than you might expect. Most people will find this tablet is more than up to helping them complete most productivity and creative tasks, processor-intensive gaming, and yes, some good old-fashioned streaming and surfing. It’s not an inexpensive purchase and like any device, it comes with its quirks. But the positives far outweigh the negatives here. That it’s now available in two sizes is the icing on the cake.

After testing the latest iPad Air, the biggest reason to upgrade from an older model, is the larger 13-inch size option. What was once an iPad Pro benefit has now come downmarket to a price tier that's much more accessible. I also recommend that existing users, including those who own the 2022 model, hold off on upgrading. Besides the larger screen configuration, there's no generational difference between this year's iPad and the one from two years ago.

The iPad Air 2024 isn’t the most exciting tablet that Apple has ever released. It lacks the stunning display of the Pro and the tempting price of the base iPad 10. However, sometimes the best choice isn’t the most exciting and for many the iPad Air 2024 is the perfect choice. There are enough extras here – higher base storage, a better screen, faster chip, Apple Pencil Pro compatibility and Apple Intelligence support with iOS 18 – to make the jump from the cheapest iPad worth it. Plus, the introduction of the 13-inch model means you don’t need to splash out £1199/$1199 to get an iPad with a screen that’s larger than 11-inches. I still think if money is no object, the iPad Pro 2024 with its M4 chip and OLED display is the ultimate iPad. Do you need to spend at least £999/$999 on a tablet though? When the iPad Air 2024 offers many of the same skills, the answer is probably no.

The lower entry-level price, the increased basic memory capacity of 128GB, and the front camera on the long edge are all pleasing upgrades for this generation of Air. The fact that the iPad has also been given the next chip up, the M2, is also welcome. However, it would have been nice if the display of the 11-inch iPad Air had been just as bright as that of its big brother.

I really liked this model. I’ve never owned or even considered an iPad Air in the past as I always found them compromised for more professional 3D work, but this model has changed my mind. All these newer iPads are very capable for painting and drawing in most cases but this one handles the digital sculpting with ease. The M2 and 8GB or RAM make a massive difference and you really need to take time to see if you really need the extra oomph of an iPad Pro. For non-artists, this is the sweet spot for you between cost and functionality. Powerful enough and not as eye-watering on the price front. Lots of bells and whistles including the features that come with the new iPad Pencil Pro. A better option than the iPad Pro for lots of people but it might still be lacking for heavy hitters.

Which M4 iPad Pro should I get? after comparing the M2 iPad Air vs M4 iPad Pro, I am convinced that the M2 iPad Air is the best iPad Pro for most people. Hear me out

I opened this review by saying I love the iPad Air (2024), and I really do. It’s a brilliant tablet that does absolutely everything I want, including replacing my laptop, provided I’m not doing anything too intensive. Considering the big jump in price to get the M4 iPad Pro and that the 10th-generation iPad is now more than two years old, the iPad Air (2024) seems to be the iPad for everyone this year. It is, but it’s also not an iPad you should upgrade to if you already have an iPad Air or iPad Pro from the last five years. It still doesn’t have a 120Hz screen and the M1 chip used in the old Air tablets is still hugely powerful. The last iPad Pros also use the M2 chip, even the 4th-generation iPad Air supports the Magic Keyboard, and they all run the same software.

When I was testing the iPad, my father asked me who the iPads are for. What is their purpose, and can people actually use them for their office work? To answer who should buy the iPad Air, addressing my father's questions is a great way to start. If you can do all or most of your work on your phone, then an iPad is a bigger, better, and more powerful canvas to get your work done. However, if you need a laptop for your office work, the answer is no. Do not see the iPad as a replacement for your laptop. Apple doesn't want that either. I believe it is intentional that the iPad runs on iPadOS, which is iOS on steroids, and not macOS. So, who should buy the iPad? If you want an on-the-go device for entertainment, collaborative work, or basic edits, then the iPad Air can be a very handy companion.

The $599 Apple iPad Air is an excellent tablet for people who want more performance than the standard iPad offers but who don't need all the power of the iPad Pro. The M2 processor means it can handle advanced creation apps, the plentiful storage makes it more capable for larger projects, the reconfigured cameras help with video chats, and it's compatible with the best version of the Apple Pencil for artists. All this makes the iPad Air an Editors' Choice winner for students and creators who need an intermediate tablet for work and play. Professional artists and digital creators should still consider the iPad Pro for its advanced power and capabilities, while casual users who only expect to surf the web, enjoy social media apps, and stream media can save a considerable amount of money on the standard iPad.

Apple M2 10-Core GPU:
