Samsung Galaxy Tab S vs Galaxy Tab S2 comparison: Samsung's latest tablet is even better than its predecessor
Source: Tech Advisor Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
We can’t give our final verdict until we get the Galaxy Tab 2 back to PC Advisor towers, and put it through its paces. However, based on our first impressions with the Tab S2 and previous knowledge of the original Tab S, we’re impressed. With regards to design, the Tab S2 wins – it’s incredibly thin and light, and the screen is gorgeous. However, at a discounted price, the original Tab S is also a bargain and could be a winner – we’ll have to wait on the pricing of the Tab S2 to be announced first!

Although some of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4’s software additions are of questionable value and it has a few design flaws, it’s a great tablet nevertheless. Battery life and screen quality are top-notch, making it one of the best Android tablets available. Despite a few design niggles, Samsung’s latest tablet is simply superb.

Nexus 9 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 comparison review: Cheaper and feature-packed Tab S nips Nexus 9
Source: Tech Advisor Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
This is a close call as the Nexus 9 and Galaxy Tab S 8.4 both have pros and cons. If you don't mind spending more, then Google's tablet has better performance and battery life but is chunkier. Samsung's isn't as slick but is impressively svelte and has features not found on the Nexus 9. Now the Tab S is cheaper you can save money by going this way and installing the Google Now launcher if you don't like TouchWiz so it just nips the win here but both are great choices for an Android tablet.

The Tab S 16GB/Wi-Fi model reviewed here is available at a price tag of AED 1,699, but if you opt for the 3G version you will have churn out AED 2,099. The Tab S is also available in 10.1-inch version for AED 2099 (Wi-Fi only) and AED 2599 (3G). I personally own the 10.1-inch model of Galaxy Tab 3 and am quite impressed with its performance and features minus the form-factor. After reviewing the Tab S, I genuinely fell in love with this device and believe it’s time to switch. Its slim design and amazing features combined with excellent price point, makes it one of the best tab available.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 video review: the best new compact tablet of 2014

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is one of the best Android tablets we've ever reviewed. In terms of hardware it's the best you can buy right now and has a superbly thin and light design. There's very little to dislike here aside from some elements of the TouchWiz software and the higher price compared to some decent Android tablet rivals.

The Galaxy Tab S devices give Android users two slim and solid alternatives to the iPad Air and iPad Mini. Stock Android would have been great, and metal backings wouldn’t have made these ultralight tablets too heavy at all. But neither of those things are as important as these flagship Samsung slates’ strengths: Superb screens, smooth performance, solid battery life, and unbelievably svelte physiques.

Having won four rounds to the Galaxy Tab S 8.4's three, the iPad Mini 2 with Retina display is the winner of this versus review. Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4: 4G Android tablet is easy to swallow
Source: Reg Hardware Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Buy it direct from Samsung and the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE will set you back £399 – or to put it another way, £20 less than the cheapest (16GB, no memory card) Wi-Fi and cellular iPad mini Retina. Pick one up from a cellco like 3, which supplied my review unit, and for £50 upfront and £33 a month you get the slab and 15GB of data each month. In a nutshell then, the Tab S 8.4 is thin and light with decent battery life, a good camera, even better speakers, a cellphone and a very impressive display. The best tablet in the world? Pretty much.

Featuring a great display, powerful processor, above average – for a tablet – camera and wealth of security services, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is a stellar device that easily matches, if not beats the performance of other small form-factor tablets. The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is an amalgamation of the Tab Pro 8.4 along with the Galaxy S5. The hardware, especially the display is of top notch and the tablet is a powerhouse when it comes to performance and productivity. The design might not appeal to some, although Samsung has put in efforts to make it as slim as possible and has even splashed some nice metal accents. Overall, this is the best tablet from Samsung in the 7-8 inch range and for the money, we think the Tab S 8.4 is a great buy.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is an incredible tablet with almost no flaws. Superb screen, unique features, a battery that doesn’t need charging every night… really, there's very little that's missing here. But for us the iPad Mini stays on top by a whisker for its unrivalled tablet design, absolutely flawless performance and wider selection of optimised tablet apps. Sure, the Tab S 8.4 is smaller than most Android tablets and both the Magazine UI and Papergarden help but the App Store is where you’ll find the best apps for (slightly) bigger screens.

There's a lot of good to say about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. So much that it irks us just how many other Tab devices are available through the range, because it muddies the water. In short the S sets the mark for Android tablets at this price point and size. All there is to do now is simplify the naming convention and deliver a slightly more premium build - then it'll be job done Samsung.

80% If you're after a tablet with an impossibly great screen... this is it
Source: Techradar Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
Having spent plenty of time with both variations of the Tab S, it has to be said that these are great devices — from the eye-catching screen to the raw power under the hood, Samsung couldn't have done much better with what could be a final attempt to compete with Apple at the top-end of the market. If this doesn't make a dent in the iPad sales figures perhaps nothing will. There are still question marks over Android which aren't all Samsung's fault. With the release of Android L in the autumn some of these problems might be ironed out, but when the Tab S will get Samsung's version of the new operating system is anyone's guess.

If you're looking for an Android tablet, then the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is certainly a fantastic, if rather expensive choice. The 8.4in display strikes a great middle ground between small 7in tablets and hulking 10in examples, both of which look to be falling slowly out of favour. If you don’t want to spend as much, the Google Nexus 7 is now available for around £150 which makes it excellent value.

There are two answers here. If you’re choosing between this and an iPad mini 2 then we’d still recommend the iPad. While the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4’s screen gives it an edge, the iPad’s screen is still very good and it comfortably wins for its better design, slicker software and superior tablet apps. The only alternative we’d consider is the LG G Pad 8.3. It’s not as fast as the Samsung and doesn’t have an AMOLED screen, but it’s only £200 and a very good cheaper alternative. Those after the pure Google experience should consider waiting for the much-rumoured Nexus 8 tablet, too, but we’d be very surprised if it matches the quality of this Samsung AMOLED screen.

Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4
Source: Gizmag Anglais EN→FR Archive.org version
On a hardware level, the Galaxy Tab S is in a league of its own. No other series of tablets – iPad included – gives you such an outstanding combination of screen quality, lightness and thinness. On a software level, it has a few cool tricks up its sleeve as well. But there is that pesky lack of edge touch rejection, along with a tablet app library that still lags behind the App Store's. The Tab S 8.4 is an excellent tablet – one of the best around – and is most definitely worth a look. But for those reasons it isn't quite the no-brainer buy over the Retina iPad mini that it could have been.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is a very impressive small tablet with a thin and light design combine with a large screen. That display is gorgeous but Samsung's SuperAMOLED isn't for everyone. There's a lot of tech packed into this device, such as the fingerprint scanner and IR blaster, but while it price-matches the iPad mini you will have to pay more for it than rival Android tablets such as the Nexus 7.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is the biggest step yet by the manufacturer on its way to the top of the tablet market. It is also the first compact Android tablet which can legitimately give the iPad mini 2 a bloody nose not only on paper, but also in real life, without downplaying Google's and Amazon's efforts. But while the likes of Kindle and Nexus are good at cutting Apples' prices, Samsung is throwing everything and the AMOLED screen.

On that basis, there’s plenty to like about the Galaxy Tab S. The 10.5-inch model is a beautiful movie machine, with great speaker performance and sufficiently lightweight construction that even if you’re holding it for the duration, your arms shouldn’t get tired.
