Where the phone stumbles is its pricing compared to the competition. The phone simply doesn’t have the price advantage it needs to stand apart from the Galaxy S22. In the US, there’s little reason to opt for the Galaxy S21 FE over the Galaxy S22 with the small $100 price delta. Budget-conscious power users in regions where the Galaxy S22 has an Exynos chipset may be tempted by the Fan Edition, but most should still favor the real thing. And that’s without getting into the compelling alternatives that may have more appeal. The Pixel 7, in particular, is simply a better buy than the Samsung for the moment, especially if you care about camera results and software. There’s nothing wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. However, unless you can find it on sale, there’s something to be said for pricing. While the $100 between the S21 FE and the S22 is surely a lot to some potential buyers, it’s money well spent if you’re going with Samsung’s latest flagship.

When it launched in early 2022, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE was already a dodgy value proposition. Now that phones like the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Galaxy S22 exist, there's little reason to pick an S21 FE up unless you can score one at a super-discounted price. It may have years of software updates left, but a 2-year-old processor and nasty haptics make this phone feel old the moment you turn it on.

Despite the phone’s circumstances exacerbating its shortcomings, the Galaxy S21 FE is still a great budget flagship alternative. For one, it starts at just S$978. Considering how other alternatives from 2021 are officially priced at S$999 or higher (bar the Xiaomi 11T Pro), the Galaxy S21 FE is priced well below the competition it’s meant to take on. It also comes with the brand's familiar UI and optimisations, so your browsing experience doesn't take a hit like how some Chinese UIs do. Taken together, the consumer gets to pay slightly less than before, get HDR10+ support, with performance commensurate to other 2021 flagship phones. If you missed out on the S20 FE or S21 series and want a budget flagship upgrade, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE offers a fairly sensible upgrade path.

While the flagship Galaxy S22 phones might grab most of the headlines for Samsung in 2022, there’s plenty of value to be had from the company in terms of phones lower down on the price scale, and there’s no better example than the Galaxy S21 FE. It takes the best bits of the Galaxy S21 which was launched in 2021 and puts them in a more affordable package. Even with its mid-range price, this is a phone that scores highly in whatever category you want to pick: performance, camera quality, design, screen, battery life, software, and more besides. You’re covered for 5G connectivity, you get full IP68 water and dust resistance, and there’s support for wired and wireless charging as well. It’s difficult to find any feature that this phone doesn’t have.

Samsung conjured up a solid smartphone in the Galaxy S21 FE. On the surface, there’s nothing objectionable about the phone at all. Samsung managed to get many of the tent poles firmly in place. It’s attractive (if a touch simple), slim, and lightweight. I genuinely appreciate the quality of the materials and the tight assembly. The screen is very good, battery life is above average, and it delivers better performance than many phones in its price class. Samsung managed to ship the phone with the latest version of Android and it comes with the very best OS and security update commitment. And that’s without getting into the compelling alternatives that may have more appeal. The Pixel 6, in particular, is simply a better buy than the Samsung for the moment, especially if you care about camera results and software. There’s nothing wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. There is also the not-so-little matter of the Samsung Galaxy S21. The price difference between the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 FE is quite slim and with specifications so similar to the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G and with some improvements like the slightly taller display, a bigger battery, and a higher megapixel count on the front-facing camera, the Galaxy S21 FE is a major headache for the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G which retails at Rs. 59,999 for the 8 GB/ 128 GB variant. The launch of the Galaxy S22 series makes the S21 FE part of an older generation. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a really good phone and leaves us with little to complain about. It is a great high-end performer, but it might just have run out of time.

All the Samsung shippers must get their hands on this one because Samsung promised 3 Android updates so that you will get up to Android 15 plus four years of security. Thus if you are the one who doesn’t change phones very often, then the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE smartphone is the best in the global market. If you are unsatisfied or find it overpriced, then you must consider the OnePlus 9RT or Samsung Galaxy S20 FE as an alternative and decide according to your requirements. We recommend you check both smartphone reviews to make the final decision that fits well according to your budget and preference.

The Galaxy S22 comes with a 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, while on the back of the device—gasp, it’s real glass this time! Furthermore, it on paper has better cameras too, with the Galaxy S22 series as a whole seeing a number of not insignificant upgrades in the camera department from Samsung. And perhaps a little ironically, it comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 too; Snapdragon chips have long been the fan favourite SoC here in Malaysia, and the use of the Snapdragon 865 in the Galaxy S20 FE was undoubtedly one of its biggest selling points here. However, the Galaxy S22 will cost you RM600 more, with the 128GB model starting at RM3,499 while the 256GB variant goes for RM3,699. Now RM600 is a lot of money, I know. But honestly though, if you were already about to shell out nearly three grand for the Galaxy S21 FE, the RM600 extra to get the Galaxy S22 could be well worth it, assuming you don’t mind the smaller display. There are other non-Samsung alternatives as well of course, such as the Motorola Edge 30 Pro that’s priced at RM2,699.

I definitely recommend the Samsung S21 FE, but it cannot be denied that it is a bit too expensive and also late. If it had landed on store shelves in the fall, then it might have been a hit. Even in December, it would have a chance to be a hit with Christmas presents. However, it landed in stores in January, and I'm not sure if it's too late. It's a pity, because the phone is quite successful.

One big plus on the software side is that this phone will get 4 Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates so as long as you don’t smash the screen, it could faithfully serve you for 4-5 years which is good for the environment and your wallet. I’d say the S21 FE 5G suits a phone buyer who has a grand to spend and wants a good phone that will be supported for many years. If that’s you buy the $100 more expensive 256GB storage 8GB RAM version of this phone as it will be able to store data and handle memory hungry apps for much longer. The main catch is price. I think the launch price is too expensive for what you get but there is value in this phone if you can buy it on sale and/or get a trade-in deal to reduce the price of the 256GB storage 8GB RAM version to sub $1000.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G (256GB) has great specs on paper and can capture decent photos but its price lets it down as for £20 more (at the time of writing) you can purchase the 128GB version of the Galaxy S22 which has only just been recently launched. The 'FE' is meant to be a smartphone that's more accessible but with a price point that still rivals some flagship smartphones, as well as some really good mid-range alternatives, it's just not a smartphone that stands out from the crowd. That's not to say it's not a good smartphone, as it is, but there's just a bit too much competition for it to be the best.

Ultimately, the Galaxy S21 FE is a good smartphone that will serve you well for years to come with a current Samsung flagship design, capable performance and reasonably good cameras, while the value proposition isn’t as great as Samsung did back on the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, one thing we must understand is the reason why its predecessor did so well because back then, the Galaxy S20 had a series of issues that was so bad such as severe overheating and battery drain issues that it needed an FE to ultimately save the day, not to mention that the regular S20 and S20+ sold in Malaysia back then lacked 5G connectivity and came with the infamous Exynos 990 chipset. The Galaxy S21 FE would have of course been a more successful device if it was released earlier, but there’s nothing much to lose if you had pick it up instead of the regular Galaxy S22 and S22+, so fret not, your money is spent well.

In video mode, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G (Snapdragon) records footage with good exposure in low-contrast scenes. However, in more difficult high-contrast conditions video clips tend to be underexposed. The comparison devices below are doing better in this respect. Our testers also observed some color and white balance instabilities but overall white balance and color rendering are generally accurate when recording in bright light or under typical indoor conditions. In low light, an orange cast is more intrusive than on the comparison phones. Noise is quite visible in all conditions, it’s particularly strong in low light. We also noticed frame shift and ringing artifacts in all conditions. Video stabilization does a good job in static scenes and is on a similar level as the competitors.

This is the Galaxy S21 FE, the successor to one of the sleeper hits of 2020, even if honestly, it does so by being nothing like it. See, Galaxy S20 FE was a good phone in so many ways, but it felt like more of a bumped-up A series, than it did a Galaxy S. Sure, the chip and most of the design elements were flagship territory, but the screen was not, and neither was the photography. What felt like a premium mid-ranger was probably the most in-touch phone Samsung could've launched at such a hard time, but it wasn't really the flagship killer it intended to be for the long run.

But back to the crucial question which must be: Should yo be buying the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE right now? The answer to this is no. In the smallest configuration with 6 gigabytes of memory and 128 gigabytes of storage, the mobile costs £649 at the time of writing, while the “real” Galaxy S21 5G, which probably has a worse battery, but in return offers a significantly better camera, for the model with 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage cost less than £500. Therefore, we must advise you to wait a bit if, for one reason or another, you still have hot dreams about the Galaxy S21 FE – e.g. if you do not take as many pictures but would like the Fan Edition mobile phone’s larger battery and Snapdragon processor. For in a very shoprt time, Samsung will launch the new Galaxy S22 series, and then two things will happen. Firstly, the original Galaxy S21 models will be disappearing from the market and secondly, the Galaxy S21 FE wil be falling in price. Expect a price around £420.

With an overall Audio score of 70, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G (Snapdragon) matches the scores of the other models in the Samsung S21 series. As with the other models, the S21 FE 5G showed outstanding management of artifacts. The S21 FE 5G only had minor one-point differences in timbre and volume results for both playback and recording. Its audio performance in the Premium segment, however, was still far from the top-ranked Black Shark 4 Pro and 4S Pro, which both achieved overall scores of 81. The Galaxy S21 FE 5G’s results indicate Samsung has kept audio specs and tuning nearly the same across all the S21 versions. Because of S21 FE 5G’s mostly identical results, we invite you read the full Audio review of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (Exynos) for more details on its sound performance.

The S21 FE shows some frame mismatches for content at 30 fps and 60 fps, along with some stutters when focusing on background elements in video games (though the stutters do not adversely affect the gaming experience). The device manages motion blur well. Video playback is slightly delayed after moving forwards or backwards in the timeline. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is smooth when browsing the web and when scrolling in the gallery, but lacks smoothness when playing video games. It handles judder well, but the device is quite responsive to ghost touches and aliasing is visible when playing video games.

At Rs 49,999 for the base model, the Galaxy S21 FE is a decent pick if Samsung’s software and brand value is what means to you the most. Considering the Galaxy S21 is still being retailed at around Rs 56,999, the Galaxy S21 FE is a good pick with a bigger battery and a slightly bigger display. In comparison with other smartphones, such as the iQOO 7 Legend, the price does seem a bit high and a slight price drop will result in an even better deal.

Oh, and if Samsung wants to keep this whole Fan Edition thing going, what I'd really like to see is a device that better lives up to the branding. Instead of a repackaged year-old phone, why not make a premium remixed version sporting a microSD card slot and headphone jack? Not only would this be a welcome alternative to a lot of today's flagships with minimal ports, but it'd also be a considerate nod to old-school Galaxy phone fans who may have felt betrayed when Samsung removed those features from the S20 in 2019. That's the kind of customer appreciation I can really get behind.

Most will compare the S21 FE with the Pixel 6 as both phones offer similar specifications. The $949 S21 FE sports a higher refresh rate and a telephoto camera, but the Pixel 6 offers a pure Android experience, 8GB of RAM, a 50-megapixel primary shooter, faster charging, a slightly larger battery and costs $799. In theory, the S21 FE should be in a similar price range to the Pixel 6, but the device is $150 more expensive. Price aside, the device is also launching relatively late, given the S22 series’ reveal is just around the corner. The South Korean company will reveal the S22 early next month with a next-gen processor and better specs. With that in mind, most Samsung “fans” will want to wait until February to buy the newer device instead of opting for the S21 FE. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 FE is a good smartphone offering some flagship specs and a stylish design but also sports an alright screen and camera setup Unfortunately, the phone costs $949, which is a bit much when devices like the Pixel 6 are available for less.

The S21 FE is a phone out of time. It’s a pretty great, well-rounded hardware package, that’s really only let down by some minor overheating issues and the fact that Samsung still lags far behind the Android pack on battery and charging tech. If it cost $100 less than it does I might be here singing the phone’s praises – but, for now at least, it doesn’t. And at this price, it’s a phone I can’t wholeheartedly recommend. If you love the look, or think the feature set is just right for you, then go for it. This is a good phone and I doubt many people would come away disappointed from it. But if you want to shop around and get the best bang for your buck then other Android phones will give you more for less. And with the S22 just around the corner, you’d probably only have to spend a little more to get a much better phone from that range.

So, back to the big question - should you buy the Galaxy S21 FE or not? A quick answer would be - go for it. However, there are some clauses here. First, you will save a considerable amount. There is a Rs 10,000 price gap between the Galaxy S21 FE and the Galaxy S21, and if you are already over-reaching your budget, there is no point in even waiting for the Galaxy S22. Even if budget is not an issue, what are the core aspects you want out of your phone? If it is performance and everyday use, do not over splurge on the S21 and go for the S21 FE instead. If it is cameras, you may want to opt for the higher model. Compared to other options at its price, the Galaxy S21 FE is one of the better grabs out there. So you may not even have to think in this regard. The Galaxy S21 FE will easily prove to be your everyday companion in no time. With its elegant and straightforward design that is comfortable for prolonged use, powerful performance, dynamic display and impressive camera, the Galaxy S21 FE is one of our top suggestions for what a go-to phone should be like.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is the latest addition to the Galaxy S21 series. On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a good mid-range phone with plenty of features including a nice screen, a strong processor, and excellent cameras for individuals looking for a reliable, less expensive flagship phone. The stereo speakers as well as the UD fingerprint scanner are both going to stay, although the microSD slot did not make the cut. Its design is similar to the rest of the Galaxy S21 phones, and its construction is identical to the standard Galaxy S21 flagship – Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, with an aluminium frame, and the matte plastic back. However, the starting price of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is still way too high for what you are getting, especially when you consider drawbacks such as slow charging, slow software, and average battery life. Let’s see how the device performs in our detailed review.

The Samsung has packed in all our favourite features into the Galaxy S21 FE 5G – an attractive smartphone that’s suited to a wide range of users. The S21 FE 5G was announced during the Consumer Electronics Show in early January – a month before the launch of the Galaxy S22. That says to us the Samsung is offering customers the best of last year’s tech in a single device for those who don’t want a more affordable smartphone but still a high-quality set of features. Think of the Galaxy S21 FE 5G like Samsung Mobile’s greatest hits album. If you don’t want to wait for the next album – you can be happy with this one.

Wrapping up this review, after having used the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE for a good number of days, I must say that it has definitely grown on me. It has an awesome display, the cameras and performance here are—although not flagship level—incredible for the price, and the great stereo speakers alongside the reliable One UI software make for one satisfying smartphone experience. And looking at the Nepali market, there aren’t many options in the sub 1 lakh category either. The two-and-a-half years old iPhone 11 was recently discounted heavily but it’s no longer available. Xiaomi’s Mi 11 and Mi 11X Pro are also competent devices, but they’re pretty much out-of-stock in the market—whereas Pixel 6 and OnePlus 9RT are straight-up unavailable in Nepal. Then again, maybe Samsung Nepal should’ve launched the 8/128GB variant at around Rs. 80,000 which would’ve been a lot more digestible price point. As a result, the S21 FE is not an extraordinary phone, but it isn’t exactly terrible either.

At $699, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is affordable compared to its flagship competitors, but it isn’t the slam dunk value that its predecessor was. Some of this is the market around the phone, the Pixel 6 at $599 is one of the best values that we’ve ever seen in the Android world and Samsung’s Galaxy S21 starting at $799 rather than $999 for the Galaxy S20 makes the S21 FE feel like less of a steal. The delayed release of the Galaxy S21 FE compounds its problems as the Galaxy S22 is almost certainly right around the corner. And again, given the relatively minor price disparity between the two and the presumed upgrades coming to that phone, the Galaxy S21 FE becomes a tough sell. At its retail price, I wouldn’t recommend that you pick up the Galaxy S21 FE, it simply doesn’t represent a good enough value this time around. However, I fully expect it to drop to $599 or less in the near future, and then it becomes a much more compelling option.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Fan Edition is an excellent smartphone in a vacuum, and I would have no problem using this as my everyday phone. Performance is great, the display is large and vivid, photo quality is decent, and Samsung’s promise of three major Android OS updates is the best in the Android world right now. I’ve enjoyed using the base model Galaxy S21 over the past year, and this is almost the same device. If the upcoming Galaxy S22 series ends up being significantly more expensive than this phone (which doesn’t seem to be likely), or the price makes more sense in your country, you won’t find much to complain about with the Galaxy S21 FE.

So… where does that leave the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. If you’re looking at the phone in a vacuum, it’s a pretty spectacular device. The issues really only come to light when the $699 sticker price comes into play. If you’re somehow able to snatch this phone up for $100 less, I’d say it would definitely be worth it, but at its base price, the Galaxy S21 FE isn’t a phone I’d buy when the Pixel 6 is an option and with Samsung’s Galaxy S22 lineup looming around the corner. But if you really don’t care about the price, the Galaxy S21 FE definitely won’t disappoint. Samsung will be delivering software updates to this phone for quite for years, which should make it even better with time.

No. Simply put, the Google Pixel 6 is a better phone in almost every way, and it costs $100 less to boot. If you prefer the iPhone, the iPhone 13 is no slouch either. Don’t get me wrong, this is a very good phone, but it’s coming at a weird time. The only reason you should buy this phone is if you absolutely want a Samsung flagship, but you don’t want to buy an almost year-old phone in the Samsung Galaxy S21, nor a more expensive brand new phone in the S22. That’s an oddly specific set of criteria, but that’s also Samsung’s bread-and-butter — a phone for all budgets.

It’s time to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G. The device has a 120 Hz screen, Android 12 with Samsung One UI 4.0, and withstands short-term bathing in salt water, which is confirmed by the IP68 certificate. What really caught my attention was the magnificent Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen and the excellent set of cameras which takes good photos, albeit with some small issues. You can put up with the subpar battery life, as well as with lags when opening some apps. In general, a pretty good smartphone. However, it is difficult to recommend it, mainly due to the timing of its release. If it had appeared on the market six months ago, the assessment would certainly have been different. Can I recommend Samsung Galaxy S21 FE for purchase? I think that it’s worth waiting for the release of the new Galaxy S22 line, to see what interesting Samsung will offer us then. And the price of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is, in my opinion, too high.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE isn’t a bad value flagship per se as we found in our review of it for the Philippines, and is the classic example of a smartphone released at the wrong time. If the phone was released a few months earlier, it would have been a strong contender for anyone looking for a flagship from the Korean company that won’t do as much damage to their bank account as its older, more premium brother. As it stands though, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a tough sell, considering that the announcement and eventual release of the Galaxy S22 is just around the corner, and that pricing of the Galaxy S21 from retail partners of Samsung has been at the lowest levels yet. It’s hard to see the value of settling for a stripped-down version of the S21 when the real deal is just a few thousand pesos more.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE comes at an interesting time as it debuts weeks ahead of the impending launch of Samsung’s next generation S22 series phones in early February 2022. The new generation of phones will certainly cost more than the Galaxy S21 FE though there are scant details on the next generation smartphone and what upgrades it will have over the current generation. What is certain here is that on its own merits and at its price point, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE offers immense value for what you pay for. You are getting a large 120Hz display, flagship-grade hardware and a triple camera array with OIS on the primary and telephoto camera that is capable of delivering excellent results. Add in good battery life, DeX mode and a very practical polycarbonate chassis and you have the epitome of a value flagship in the Galaxy S21 FE. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is the epitome of value, packing flagship-grade features including a large 120Hz display, excellent performance and great cameras at a decent price point.

The Galaxy S21 Fan Edition is definitely a confusing phone. It’s almost identical to the base model Galaxy S21, except it has cheaper materials and one extra generation of OS updates (so it should receive Android 13, 14, and 15, while the Galaxy S21 will stop at 14). The Galaxy S21 was $799.99 at launch, but it dropped to $699 on more than one occasion, while the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition starts at $699.99. Samsung might drop the price of the FE over the next few months to make the phone more of a deal, but the company hasn’t done anything yet. The entire Galaxy S21 family is starting to go out of stock at retailers, which indicates Samsung might sell the Galaxy S21 FE as the only available Galaxy S21 model from this point on. If that’s true, cross-shopping the two phones is a bit of a pointless exercise, unless you’re deciding between a new Galaxy S21 FE and a used/refurbished Galaxy S21. In summary: if you want a new phone, your only choice between the two will probably be the Galaxy S21 FE. I’d still recommend waiting for a sale if you can, though

Retailing for the equivalent of $950, the Galaxy S21 FE is not a good choice in the U.K., which will be the case until the phone gets a substantial discount. It is much more palatable in India at ₹49,999 ($670), but that is still a little too high; it needs to be selling in the vicinity of ₹45,000 ($602) to see anywhere close to the same level of sales figures that the S20 FE managed to attain. If history is any indication, Samsung won't wait too long before rolling out enticing offers for the S21 FE in most markets. The Galaxy S22 series is on the horizon, and the S21 FE will undoubtedly get a discount once the regular S22 is available on store shelves around the world. So if you're interested in the Galaxy S21 FE, my recommendation would be to wait a little while for it to go on sale.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is pretty much everything you'd expect it to be. It takes most of the important features from the Galaxy S21 models and presents them in a slightly reformed and cheaper form. It would have made a lot more sense if the Fan Edition had launched in September 2021, though, and it's unavoidable that you can probably pick up the (slightly smaller) Galaxy S21 for around the same price. With the Galaxy S22 launch just around the corner, set for February 2022, some may wish to wait and see what else Samsung has in store instead. But for those looking for a Samsung phone right now, the Galaxy S21 FE still hits most of the experience points they will want, irrelevant of the badly timed release and inevitable and extensive competition.

First out of the gate, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE had the potential to be the first must-have phone of 2022. With a similar design and specifications to last year’s flagship Galaxy S21, but at a lower launch price of £699 and a larger display, it looked like it might have been a bit of a bargain for what it offers. However, now that I’ve spent some time using it, the S21 FE’s slightly reduced launch price is a bit too much to pay for a phone that’s almost identical to last year’s “normal” model. Pair those similarities with a battery life hit and things start to turn sour. Of course, if you’re a Samsung devotee and just can’t wait to get your Galaxy fix, the S21 FE is still a decent alternative, with a top-notch set of cameras and a great display, but it might be best to wait just a little while longer for the S22 to arrive before you make any snap decisions on which phone to buy next. For everyone else, buy the Pixel 6 instead.

The Galaxy S21 FE is in many ways more like the iPhone 12 -- just a nice high-end phone for everyone. Samsung seems to have built a phone for those seeking a nice high-end experience without shelling a penny north of Rs. 60,000. Unlike the Galaxy S20 FE, where the cost cutting was more evident, the Galaxy S21 FE feels no different to use than a regular S21. It’s got a superb display, genuinely nice cameras, effortless performance, and an overall well-rounded user experience. It is not perfect though. For a phone that costs Rs. 55,000, the Galaxy S21 FE looks dull in comparison to the iPhone 12, a much cheaper iQOO 7 Legend, and Vivo’s X70 series – this Samsung isn’t grabbing eyeballs even without the case. The battery life has room for improvement and the charging speeds are slow by modern “flagship” standards. So, who should buy the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE? Based on our experience, we feel you will be genuinely happy with S21 FE if you care deeply for a sublime Android experience sprinkled with Samsung-ness, a lively display for your Netflix/Prime Video sessions

As we've noted a few times in this evaluation, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE checks a bunch of feature boxes for its price tag, whether you consider its IP68 water and dust resistance, wireless Qi charging, both Sub-6 and mmWave 5G support, or its quad-camera setup that produces great shots, including its 32MP selfie camera. In fact, though we praised the Pixel 6 for its value prop, we have to offer similar praise to Samsung for delivering a worthy competitor that has historically been more likely to go on sale in the days after launch as well. Add to that the GS21 FE's generally excellent execution of Samsung's tried and true flagship phone platform, save perhaps for its middling battery life, and things add up a bit more in Samsung's favor as well. We're still struggling with the Pixel 6's super finicky fingerprint sensor here (even post January update) but we had no such issues with the Galaxy S21 FE, which in our testing experience ran virtually bug-free.

I initially thought it would be hard to come to a verdict about the Galaxy S21 FE. But as I neared the end of this review, I realized that it’s quite simple. The Galaxy S21 FE is coming to the party super late, and a sensible choice would be to wait and see what the Galaxy S22 series brings to the table or at least wait for some discounts on the S21 FE when the S22 lineup arrives. On the other hand, if you must buy a new flagship phone today that is cheaper than the S21 and S21+ while giving you most of the same features, get the S21 FE. It’s a solid phone, and while the removal of the microSD slot and in-box accessories might frustrate some, it’s still impressive what you’re getting for the asking price and you won’t regret the purchase.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G is a fantastic value flagship from Samsung, in its own right. It checks all the boxes in terms of performance and features, and despite the bump in price, is still one of the only phones in this range to offer premium features such as wireless charging and IP68 waterproofing. The Galaxy S21 FE pretty much kills off the Galaxy S21, which doesn't offer any significant value anymore at its current price. There were a couple of areas in which I felt Samsung could have done better with the Galaxy S21 FE 5G. It would have been nice to have the option to expand storage, a bundled charger is always welcome, and battery life could have been better with regard to video playback. If any of these little misses might be a pain point for you, then look no further than Galaxy S20 FE 5G. There's never been a better time to buy this phone, as its price is at an all-time low of just Rs. 36,999. If you haven't already snagged the launch offer and bought the Galaxy S21 FE 5G, I'd say the Galaxy S20 FE 5G offers far better value right now.

All-in-all, this is a very good daily driver with a water-resistant build, stunning display, flagship performance, deliverable cameras, and 5G connectivity. It’s PHP 6,000 less than the regular Galaxy S21, making it a better choice with almost the same offering. However, as it was released much later than expected, the S21 FE comes in at a tough spot. For one, the Galaxy S22 series is surely expected to be released in the coming months, and second, for its price, some consumers would rather look at discounted old flagship models. Nonetheless, as I said earlier, it’s still an excellent daily driver. If you like it, then go ahead!

If the Galaxy S21 FE was launched later together with the Galaxy S22 series and renamed to Galaxy S22 Lite or something, I think it is also a better choice than launching it now. That is especially true since the Galaxy S22 is rumored to be launched sometime in February. But the main question is – should you buy the Galaxy S21 FE? Well, I think it’s a good phone overall, just the launch timing is weird. To whoever says “better get the Galaxy S21”, then I’m sorry to say that the retail price of the Galaxy S21 is still at around RM3,499 brand new – so there is a sizable price gap. To those who say “better get the Pixel 6”, unfortunately, the Pixel 6 is not available in Malaysia so there’s that. Either way, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is still a magnificent phone – just get it at a lower price.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is launched on January 2022, and the phone arrives with a price tag of $660 (Rs 51,999 in India) approx. The simple design looks premium and the 6.4-inches Dynamic AMOLED 2X display grants a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10 support. It includes impressive IP 68 certification and corning glass Victus protection coating on the Always-on display. Aside from this, you will also receive a 32MP selfie camera lens at the front. The back panel introduces a 12MP primary shooter that offers decent OIS, 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, while the 12MP ultra-wide lens gives decent wide-angle photos. As for the video recording, 4K with gyro-EIS and HDR 10+ is possible. On the other hand, the hardware is presented in two versions.

The Galaxy S21 FE's most notable drawback is the launch price. The Galaxy S21 FE 5G costs €750 for its basic 6/128 version and €830 for the 8/256 model. And that's quite high for the segment the FE's aiming at. The Galaxy S21 FE launches mere weeks before the Galaxy S22 premiere, and the expectations are that the regular Galaxy S22 with more powerful hardware and a better screen will retail between €800-€900. And it sure makes sense to wait and see what the Galaxy S22 has in store for us. Meanwhile, there are many phones that are offering similar features for much less, and what's worse, some of them are Galaxy phones themselves. So, the Galaxy S21 FE is a powerful and capable smartphone, no two ways about that. But we just cannot recommend it at this price, not without reservations. Once Samsung introduces its first price cut, though, the Galaxy S21 FE should get a spot on the shortlists of everyone looking for a no-nonsense flagship-like smartphone.

On its merits, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a high-performing Android phone that doesn’t cost as much as a flagship, with a solid set of cameras and an excellent display. I’d easily recommend it in a vacuum. Unfortunately for Samsung, we’re not in a vacuum and there are just better values out there for Android lovers. I just can’t see a compelling reason to go with this phone over either the Pixel 5a or Pixel 6. The former is a massive discount at US$450 and has a much better battery, terrific cameras, and the all-important headphone jack. The only downside is the 60Hz refresh rate. If you want a higher refresh rate and don’t care about a headphone jack, the Pixel 6 is only US$600 and delivers a 120Hz display to go along with a similarly excellent battery and Google’s great cameras. The best case I can make for the S21 FE is if you really care about seamless connectivity between your phone and external Samsung devices like the Galaxy Buds 2. However, you can just download the Galaxy Wearable app from the Play Store, so even that is a minor inconvenience at worst.

Samsung’s more affordable FE fan edition is back, this time for the S21 line of Android phones. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G has a 6.4” AMOLED 120Hz display, Snapdragon 888 processor, is IP68, & most features of the standard S21. Trend Micro's Premium Security Suite offers complete device and identity protection for up to 10 devices. The S21 GE has triple rear cameras, 5G including mmWave and a beefy battery. It’s available on all major carriers and is also available unlocked.

At its retail price, the Galaxy S21 FE sits in a really weird spot. It’s only $100 less than the standard Galaxy S21, which is overall a better phone and is often available for less than the FE. Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 costs $100 less and offers essentially the same package. That said, the Galaxy S21 FE makes sense in a couple of key situations. Firstly, when it is inevitably discounted. The Galaxy S20 FE was the go-to choice for both Samsung and carriers to offer at huge discounts and in many cases even nearly free with trade-ins. It seems entirely likely that the same will happen with the S21 FE, and it kicked off with Samsung offering up to $560 off the phone’s cost with trade-ins around launch day. Another way the Galaxy S21 FE makes a lot of sense is if the Pixel 6 isn’t available in your region, which is pretty likely given Google’s limited list of supported countries. When the Pixel 6 isn’t in the room, the S21 FE is easily one of the best “affordable flagship” tier smartphones on the market today. When it gets those inevitable discounts, it’ll be a no-brainer for many.

The screen is very good, battery life is above average, and it delivers better performance than most phones in its price class. Samsung managed to ship the phone with the latest version of Android and it comes with a very respectable OS and security update commitment. And that’s without getting into the compelling alternatives that may have more appeal than a phone that should have launched six months ago. The Pixel 6, in particular, is simply a better buy than the Samsung for the moment, especially if you care about camera results and software. There’s nothing wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. However, there’s something to be said for pricing and market timing.

I never had the chance to test drive the Galaxy S20 FE, but several family members have it, and so I have tried it out occasionally over the past year. It's a solid smartphone that appeals to long-time Samsung fans who did not want to pay $1,000 for a new phone. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G slides right into that same spot with improved specifications across the board, the latest Android software, and the same $699.99 starting price. I think it would be a killer option with a starting price of $599.99, but some launch specials make it equivalent to that if you need a Samsung accessory. The back is plastic, but the matte finish feels and looks great with no fingerprints and some added grip to it. The phone is also fairly light, despite having a very large 4,500 mAh battery, so the plastic back was a good move by Samsung, in my opinion. It should also survive short drops better than a phone with a glass back panel. When I buy a phone, I need it to perform in all locations, including in areas where others may see spotty cellular coverage.

There’s a category in the smartphone market that has emerged over the past few years that I’ll call “value flagships.” Buying one feels a little like getting away with something — nearly all the features of a high-end device with a significantly lower price. Phones like the iPhone SE, Pixel A-series, and Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE are classics of the genre, combining the right features for the right price at the right time. With its second entry in the category — the Galaxy S21 FE — Samsung is just a little off the mark on all the elements that would have made this a great value flagship. The S21 FE arrives very late in the S21 family’s product cycle, taking some of the shine off of the “this year’s flagship for less” appeal. It also offers just about everything you get from the standard S21, with the exception of a couple fewer gigs of RAM, a lower-quality telephoto camera, and a slightly larger screen. But at $699 it’s also not significantly cheaper than the $799 S21. Considering that the S21 is often discounted and that the S22 is likely to arrive soon, the S21 FE doesn’t look like much of a deal.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE really challenges the idiom ‘better late than never’: arriving around five months after it was expected - and 11 months and one week after the other phones in the Galaxy S21 family - the S21 FE is finally here only a month or so before the next-gen Galaxy S22 range. This is purportedly the budget member of the Samsung Galaxy S21 range, offering features and specs from the main S21 family, but at a lower asking price because of a few select downgrades that average phone users likely won’t notice. This phone is also not the first Fan Edition phone from Samsung (it should be noted that the Galaxy S20 FE proved rather popular). Right off the bat, the price is a problem. The S21 FE is supposed to be the budget member of its family (a fact denoted by the FE in the name) but arriving so long after other phones in the S21 range, it is full price whereas others have been discounted. You can pick up the Galaxy S21 - a now older phone with more impressive specs and features - for less (assuming you find a good, sub-$600 deal). As Rick Rossovich says in Top Gun: “no points for second place.”

Since I was pre-briefed about the Galaxy S21 FE in December, I’ve struggled about whether I can actually recommend the Galaxy S21 FE. You see, it sits in a relatively odd space. It’s $100 cheaper than the Galaxy S21 which you can usually find on sale for much less. But then it has most of the same specs as the Galaxy A52s which is around $500. We also can’t forget the fact that the Galaxy S22 series is launching next month. So why would someone want to buy the Galaxy S21 FE? The only reason I can think of is if you need a phone right now. And your wireless carrier is offering an incredible deal for the phone. Which some will be. Otherwise, the Galaxy S21 is a better buy, or waiting for the Galaxy S22 next month is an even better option. Don’t forget that the Galaxy S21 base model has more RAM and a slightly smaller display that does do adaptive refresh rates. So that is worth considering.

If you like the idea of the Samsung Galaxy S21 but you’re not so keen on the price, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE takes everything fans loved about their 2021 flagship and packs it into a more affordable piece of kit. Granted, this isn't actually a cheap phone, it still sits towards the more expensive end of the market. A bigger price difference between the handsets would have made this much a more convincing buy, especially given the fact that the S22 series isn’t far off being launched. It could be worth bearing in mind that once the new phones have arrived, this one might have its price cut. The phone itself is well-rounded and easily matches up to the competition from OnePlus and Google. You’ll get a good amount of power, a fantastic screen, decent battery life and a high-quality camera system. It's not going to wow you but it's not really meant to. If you're already hooked into the Samsung ecosystem then it's definitely worth considering.

At the end of the day, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a phone caught up in the whirlwinds of transformation happening in the smartphone industry. Samsung has allegedly had this phone on the backburner for months, wondering whether it should release it or not, and when it finally has released it, it looks like just another phone carefully designed to fit a very particular price niche. Problem is flagship phones have now dropped to the $800 level, close enough to prefer for most people willing to buy a $700 phone such as this one. At the same time, the S21 FE is not expected to offer anything particularly brand new. Not only that, Google has undercut it with the Pixel 6 that only costs $600 for a similar feature set. Yes, the S21 FE is certainly not the best deal around, at least at launch. This might change if Samsung runs some great deals, as Samsung often does. What we loved about the S21 FE is the overall refinement: the S20 FE was a good value but it was not a pretty phone like this one. The new FE is also surprisingly feather weight and feels effortless to carry in a pocket.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G retails for Rs 54,999 for the base variant, though buyers can avail of a Rs 5K cashback offer by using an HDFC card, thereby bringing the price of the phone down to Rs 50K. For its discounted price, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G gets some things right and the smartphone offers a stylish design that has been paired with a stunning display. That said, as prefaced previously, the device’s performance leaves a lot to be desired. Furthermore, seeing how the phone’s cameras haven’t seen any drastic upgrades over its predecessor, I’d reckon you should save some bucks and cop the company’s Galaxy S20 FE 5G instead. Else, prospective buyers can also get the Samsung Galaxy S21, which currently retails for the same price as the S21 FE 5G and offers a better telephoto camera, among other things. All things considered, the Galaxy S21 FE 5G, while good, should’ve been priced more aggressively to make it stand out that much better.

At first, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G doesn't feel like a major step up over its predecessor, and from what I can make out so far, the only big changes seem to be the design and the SoC. The removal of microSD card support is a bit disappointing too. The official prices for the Galaxy S21 FE 5G are Rs. 54,999 for the 128GB variant and Rs. 58,999 if you want 256GB of storage, but Samsung has announced a limited time cashback offer which knocks Rs. 5,000 off those prices if you use HDFC Bank cards, which makes this phone a bit more attractive. But how does the Galaxy S21 FE 5G stack up to its competitors, the biggest one being the Galaxy S20 FE 5G? We'll be answering that and many more questions in our full review, so stay tuned.

With that said, though, the Galaxy S21 FE is an overall better buy than a regular Galaxy S21 at full price. The $100 price reduction means almost nothing at the end of the day — really just the omission of 8K video recording and lower quality haptic motors — but the rest of the experience is identical or even better. Camera software improvements mean you'll get better photo quality much of the time, and the same One UI 4 running the show means you won't even miss out on a great software experience. At $700, the Galaxy S21 FE is a better buy than the $800 Galaxy S21. It's not just because of the price, though. It's because, despite the $100 price cut, there are virtually no concessions that are worth mentioning. If you want a great Samsung phone without spending $800 or more, this is your best bet.

On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a fine mid-range phone, with adequate features like an attractive screen, powerful processor and capable cameras for those looking for a handy, less expensive mobile. However, the launch price is still far too high for what you get, not to mention issues like slow charging speed, laggy software and an unimpressive battery life.

The Galaxy S21 FE is a fine addition to Samsung's S21 lineup, retaining the very best features of those flagship phones for a more modest price. The tradeoffs you have to make to save $100 aren't major ones, with the biggest sacrifice being the lack of an adaptive display as that can impact battery life. Otherwise, this is a solid phone, matching the performance of the top Android flagships from a year ago and delivering photos that hold their own against some of the best camera phones we've tested. But we can't just compare phones to what's come before them. There's also the matter of what's coming next, and with the Galaxy S21 FE, that next is coming very soon. With the Galaxy S22 about to launch, it's hard to recommend buying the Galaxy S21 FE until you've at least seen all the upcoming phone's new features and whether they'll justify paying a little bit extra for that handset. It could well be that the Galaxy S21 FE is still the better buy, though odds are the S22 is going to prove to be a more compelling choice.

So, this concludes our impression of our first encounter with the Galaxy S21 FE 5G. Honestly, we are left with some mixed feelings about the current market's prospects of this phone. It's not a straight-up level-up for existing S20 FE owners, but it sure seems like a premium handset with flagship features and reasonable pricing. It does bring several upgrades over the FE, but they are all rather incremental. Price-wise, it's not really that competitive as the S21 5G is already selling for a lower price. And finally, there is the Galaxy S22 launch is just around the corner. The Galaxy S21 FE really does need to rise to the occasion to earn a place of its own even in Samsung's own portfolio.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is pretty much everything you expect it to be. It takes most of the important features from the Galaxy S21 models and presents them in a slightly cheaper form. The design is slightly simpler than the Galaxy S21, but the core power and display hit important spec points. This phone would have made a lot more sense if it had launched in September (as the predecessor did) and it's unavoidable that you can probably pick up the (smaller) Galaxy S21 around the same price. Still, for those looking for a Samsung phone, the Galaxy S21 FE is likely to hit most of the experience points they want, but there's plenty of competition, including the likes of Google's own Pixel 6, which is close in spec and cheaper.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE looks to be a great phone in our short review of it for the Philippines, though its late arrival put it at a weird junction. While it looks to be great value on paper (especially at its price point), Samsung’s rivals are already prepping challengers for the new phone, though if you’re on the lookout for a solid, no-frills flagship, the Galaxy S21 FE should be in your shortlist.

Samsung says it's getting rid of the base-model S21 with the launch of this phone, which means the S21 FE's existence is probably more about arcane supply chain deals and marginal profit than about giving phone buyers anything new or useful. Once the S22 comes out, we're betting there will be a ton of lightly used S21 models on the market for less than the S21 FE, and without any real advantages, it seems smarter to pick up an S21 than this model. If you're reading this in January and are shopping for a Samsung phone, our advice is to hold tight and wait for the S22 launch. Then we'll see what new features the S22 family has to offer and how prices on used S21 units drop, potentially below the $699 the S21 FE lists for. If you're reading this later in the year, we'll have clearer guidance in our Galaxy S22 review. That said, the Galaxy S21 FE is a perfectly good phone, and if you need to use two lines at once, it's currently the only dual-physical-SIM flagship designed for US networks. That alone might be enough to seal the deal for you.

It’s a little too pricey when you consider what the Pixel 6 offers for less, but the Galaxy S21 FE feels like a reliable device that’ll get the job done for a lot of people. It has a nice screen, speedy specs and a trio of cameras that’ll appeal to those who have shot with Samsung phones for years. The biggest competition for this device likely comes from Samsung itself, though. A quick search shows the standard S21 can be had for less than £699 and between the two, I would go for the S21 over the FE. Then there’s the upcoming launch of the Galaxy S22 to consider – it’s worth waiting for to see what the base model in that line-up offers before taking the plunge here.

Yes, welcome to our first video from 2022, and what better way to start than at CES in Las Vegas. This is actually my 10th anniversary covering this show, and even if it almost got cancelled, I'm glad it didn't. We've taken our precautions, and boy did Samsung hit it out of the park with this one, like Literally. Want a private and socially distant briefing? Sure, how about the Raider's Allegiant Stadium. Want it to be open door? Sure, how about the open football field. Anyways, thank you Samsung for going all out, and now it's time for the goods. Meet the new Galaxy S21 FE, the successor to one of the best smartphones of 2020, and which we spent all of 2021 waiting to cover. Thing is, even if this is a Fan Edition, I'm gonna say this is Samsung's best implementation yet. With Diego on Camera I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow, and this is our hands-on.

Overall, the Galaxy S21 FE is designed to replace the existing Galaxy S21 range in Samsung’s lineup, especially as the latter is mostly out of stock already. With Samsung planning to launch its next range of phones in the coming months at a higher price, the Galaxy S21 FE is designed to be the phone that keeps the legacy of the Galaxy S21 series alive, and in this, it seems to deliver. Stay tuned as we’ll have a full review of the Galaxy S21 FE going live in the coming weeks.

Commentaire
Qualcomm Adreno 660:
