Cet iPad Air M2 a quelque chose d'étrange.

Aside from price, iPad Pro (2024) is the clear winner in all categories, compared to the (also very excellent) iPad Air (2024). We’d go so far to say it’s the best tablet money can buy. Oh sure, there are a couple of issues with iPad OS impacting both tablets and some may simply prefer a premium Android tablet, but in this versus comparison, iPad Pro (2024) is the one to beat. (Although, if you simply want a gorgeous iPad for consuming (rather than creating) content, iPad Air will serve you just fine.). Between its powerful M4 processor, gorgeous tandem OLED screens (and for the first time, a nano-texture option), and ample storage (up to 2TB), the 2024 iPad Pro is as good as it gets.

As enticing as the new iPad Pro is, I still think most should just buy the iPad Air—primarily for the value it offers. That said, even if you leave aside the value factor, the iPad Air 2024 is a well-balanced product with performance that will leave most Android tablets in the dust and is only second to the iPad Pro, and a good screen that remains enjoyable in most scenarios. Yes, you will miss OLED if it is a screen type that you often use, which is likely nowadays. But it can be overlooked considering how accurate the display is and the overall experience you can derive from the iPad Air. Also, it goes without saying, but it's the little things that make for an overall well-polished device—right from the front camera that is placed on the side now to how well the stereo sound is tuned from the speakers. For ₹59,900, or ₹79,900 (for the 13" model) it is a real value, and I don't think you should buy anything else in this price bracket.

As you can probably tell, I really like the 13-inch iPad Air and other big tablets (and I cannot lie). It goes against everything I usually stand for in devices, as I typically like to go smaller, but it just works so well. It’s taken over from my TV (temporarily), replaced my newspaper (permanently), and found a way to make my 15-inch MacBook Air feel even bigger — which isn’t easy to do. And that’s all without trying to be an artist and wield the Apple Pencil. It has all the makings of a pro-level tablet without the iPad Pro price. Of course, the 13-inch iPad Air isn’t the only large tablet out there — it’s just the easiest one to recommend from Apple. If you’re interested in an alternative, though, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 Plus ($999 at Amazon) is about as close as they come — not to mention it’s one of the best Android tablets ever.

The Apple iPad Air 13 (2024) is a very capable tablet for daily usage. Yes, the M2 SoC isn’t that new but the overall performance is good. We didn’t experience any system hiccups or stutters while browsing the Web or gaming. Depending on your preferences, the IPS display can be a pro or con for some of you. Let’s start with the positives – no PWM usage! Also, the panel reaches 600 nits of max brightness and it covers filly even the Display-P3 gamut. Also, the viewing angles are good. On the other hand, if you want an infinite contrast ratio and a brighter panel, you could take a look at the more expensive Pro sibling with an OLED screen. Now, you can transform this tablet into a small PC if you buy the Magic Keyboard which is pretty costly extra.

The iPad Air name is a bit of a misnomer because it isn’t the lightest iPad and neither is it the fastest. When I asked Apple about this, they said the iPad Air offers features that were previously only available on the iPad Pro, but at a more palatable price. You can say that the iPad Air is the iPad that t is positioned between the basic iPad and the flagship iPad Pro.

The 13-inch iPad Air with M2 chip bridges the gap between casual tablet use and professional-grade performance, which makes it an excellent choice for students and creatives. Its larger display, powerful performance, and new features like the Apple Pencil Pro support enhance the overall user experience. However, the limitations of iPadOS, particularly in desktop-like tasks and file management, remain a drawback. Despite this, the iPad Air offers great value, blending portability, and versatility without the higher price tag of the Pro models.

I would say it’s the best tablet for everyone like me who engages in some productivity tasks, such as writing and researching articles, or creativity endeavours, whether they are editing photos, video or audio. You get Pro-like performance from the M2 chip and impressive battery life – all for a reasonable price. The larger 13in display is also roomy enough to run two apps side by side and do real work on the go. If you were to choose the new iPad Pro that has an OLED display and is ultra-thin, the starting price for the 13in model is €1579 and that’s without the €399.99 keyboard or a Pencil. At those prices a MacBook Pro becomes a better option as there’s nothing you can do on an iPad that you can’t do better on a Mac, whether it’s making music or movies or creating complex 3D graphics.

It wasn’t even a year into my first full-time job as a tech journalist when I decided to get an iPad. My dad asked why I wanted an iPad instead of a Mac. I was convinced the first-generation iPad Air was the device I wanted. I still remember walking into a Croma store. It was my go-to writing machine, a device to watch movies and play games—I traveled with it everywhere. I still have it, and it still works. Since then, I have reviewed almost all iPads and used various accessories, from Apple and other brands. I know the iPad inside and out; I am both its biggest supporter and critic.

The basic version of the iPad Air 2024 is currently the Apple device with the best price-performance ratio. The M2 is so well integrated into the 11-inch Air with 128 GB of storage space at a price of $599 that it surpasses the performance of the cheapest MacBook Air. This also applies if we raise the memory to the same level with the 256 GB update and possibly buy a used Magic Keyboard. This actually results in a particularly powerful work device that meets the performance requirements of most home office work and even video editing and image processing. However, if you need a larger display and more memory with the iPad Air, the costs quickly skyrocket. What starts out as a price-performance tip quickly becomes so expensive that you start to resent the compromises that Apple has to make in the iPad Air.

The iPad Air 13in isn’t the most exciting of developments I’ve ever seen from Apple’s iPad team. It’s a rehashing, rebranding and repackaging of an older product, and it’s hardly inspirational. Having said all that, it delivers where it counts, on performance, battery life, screen quality and usability. Heck, it even supports the new Apple Pencil Pro, which makes the iPad Air nearly as good a digital art pad and note-taker as its much pricier sibling. Most importantly of all, though, the Apple iPad Air 13in addresses the key concern I’ve had with the iPad Pro for some years now: price. The M2 iPad Pro was, in my opinion, far too expensive and the new M4 iPad Pro is the same, yet the iPad Air bucks that trend; finally, we have an Apple productivity tablet that sits in roughly the same price bracket as the laptops it’s purporting to be a replacement for.

In my review of the last-generation iPad Air, I called it “the best iPad for most people”. But that was over two years ago. Since then, Apple released the 10th-generation iPad and it recently unveiled a new iPad Pro. How does the newest iPad Air fare against these iPads, and is it still the iPad most people should buy?

The truth is that the M2 chipset, even though it seems like the biggest upgrade with the 2024 iPad Air, is among the less noticeable changes. What makes the M2 iPad Air feel new is the larger 13-inch model, the Apple Pencil Pro support, and the new position for the selfie camera. We are not exactly fans of how Apple has made older Apple Pencil models obsolete, though, as none of them are compatible with the 2024 iPads. So, in truth, the Apple Pencil Pro perk is kind of an inflated upgrade over the previous model. The truth is that, besides the larger display and better sound, the support for this new and improved pencil is probably the best reason for upgrading to the 2024 iPad Air.

Now the Goldilocks of the iPad range, the Air offers performance that matches the previous Pro model and yet comes at a more affordable price. While the screen isn’t quite as impressive, it still looks great for movies and allows the use of the new Apple Pencil Pro. On balance, this is the model that most people should buy.

The new 2024 iPad Air with M2 may not be as flashy as the new M4 iPad Pro, but it still packs more power than most people need, and is the second most capable tablet in the world right now (behind the M4 iPad Pro). The new 13-inch screen size should prove even more popular than the 11-inch model I reviewed.

If you want to surf the web on the couch occasionally and send an email or message once in a while, you shouldn't go for the iPad Air. Instead, the standard iPad is available for just $349. That's still $100 cheaper than last year. This model can also be paired with a stylus and a keyboard, so you are perfectly equipped for most simple tasks. However, if you want to do creative work with the Apple Pencil, have the really practical Magic Keyboard under your fingers, need significantly more power, or don't want to live without a 13-inch display. The new Apple iPad Air is the perfect choice. The M2 chip offers plenty of power now and for years to come, so even simple video editing projects will not pose a challenge. There are a few things, such as the OLED display, that the iPad has to live without compared to the new iPad Pro.

Overall, the 13-inch iPad Air is a winner. You get Pro-like M2 performance and long battery life for a reasonable price. The display is roomy enough to get real work done on the go, and I like how smooth and responsive the Apple Pencil Pro feels. However, I wouldn’t replace my laptop with the iPad Air. macOS is still better than iPadOS for multitasking, and the Magic Keyboard isn’t as sturdy as a MacBook — especially in your lap. I also wish the iPad Air supported Face ID and Thunderbolt. The bottom line is that the iPad Air 2024 is one of the best tablets around. If it were my money I’d be tempted to spring for the iPad Pro 2024 for its brighter and more colorful OLED display, thinner design and more future-proof M4 chip. But the 13-inch Air is essentially Pro enough.

If you’re looking for big-screen iPad fun but your budget doesn’t stretch to Apple’s latest wall-busting Pro tablets, the iPad Air 13-inch (2024) has you covered. It’s an attractive and very portable slab that’s ready for just about anything. Artists will love it, as will creatives with an itch to make music and video. Thanks to the M2 chip it’s also an able workhorse and, with the addition of the Magic Keyboard, does an excellent impression of an ultraportable laptop.

Come to mama! The 13-inch iPad Air, packed with the new M2 chip, is finally here — and it's about time. I've been waiting nearly two years for a refresh. However, I wish there was more. It's like when someone tells you they've been working on a novel for two years, and you finally read it, and you're like, "That's it?" It doesn't quite meet your expectations as far as excitement and thrill goes, but I get it. The iPad Air isn't meant to cause too much pomp and circumstance: it'd steal the iPad Pro's spotlight after all. Although Apple was light on design changes this time around, the most important updates are under the hood. As you'll read later on, the M2 chip delivers impressive performance and noteworthy battery life that will keep creatives, students, and on-the-go busy bees away from the imprisonment of charging cables and wall outlets.

Otherwise, buy the plain ol’ iPad, which is an already terrific tablet at a newly terrific price. There’s even a better way to upgrade: I’d urge you to spend $150 upgrading the base iPad to the cellular model rather than $250 upgrading to the Air. Having an iPad that is just always connected, without having to think about it, is a game-changer for tablet life. My standard buying advice is to buy the best stuff you can afford and then keep it as long as possible. But I’m confident that even a two-year-old 10th-generation iPad is capable enough to do most things really well for a long time. So is the Air, obviously! But the bad news for Apple, and the good news for you, is that every iPad is a great iPad — including the cheapest one.

The M2 iPad Air starts at $599 for the 11-inch model, same as the previous-gen version. The 13-inch model adds $200 to the starting price. The 2024 iPad Pro’s starting price, meanwhile, increased by $200. Whether you want (or need) to “go pro” depends on your occupation, hobbies and bank account. If so, the 2024 iPad Air awaits you as solid midrange option, according to the first reviews. “The iPad Air is a study in tradeoffs, even more so than before,” said The Verge. “Starting at $599, it’s not the cheapest iPad you can buy, nor is it the most impressive. It doesn’t support all the accessories, but it does support some of the accessories. It’s fast but not the fastest, thin but not the thinnest, powerful but not the powerful-est. It is Apple’s attempt to find the Goldilocks middle ground — the features that matter most to the most users and nothing else.”

Apple said the iPad Air was designed to take technologies that pioneered on the iPad Pro and deliver them at a more affordable price. Based on first impressions, they seemed to have mostly delivered. With the exception of a Liquid Retina XDR display and a couple of other less crucial features, one could argue that the newest iPad Air is basically a last-generation iPad Pro in more colours. And I don’t think many people would think that's a bad thing at all.

The real killer feature for the new iPad Air, however, may well be the price, which starts at £599 for the 11in model and £799 for the 13in tablet, with the Magic Keyboard costing £299, bringing the total to £898 for the 11in iPad Air 6 and £1,148 for the iPad Air 6 13in. That’s significantly cheaper than both the outgoing iPad Pro and the new one, and it brings Apple’s productivity tablet closer in price to the M3 MacBook Air as well, where previously buying the iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard was a heftier investment.

If we are to address purely the performance and features of the 2024 iPad Air, the M2 chipset is the sole upgrade here. It is roughly 50% more powerful in comparison, able to handle some machine learning (AI) features and more graphically intensive games. Truth of the matter is that the real tantalizing set of upgrades comes with the bigger 13-inch Air, which offers access to more screen and better sound for a lower price tag compared to the iPad Pros. The regular 11-inch model is simply a performance bump, and the 2022 variant already offered more than enough power for most users so the new one doesn't sound too appealing. In other words, the 13-inch Air seems to be the one that's more worth the purchase, unless you want a more compact tablet. Nevertheless, we recommend you wait for our full review of the 2024 iPad Air before making a purchase decision. Stay tuned!
